Ohio Death Metal going in on 2000s Emo? Seems like our kind of thing. We've got Ian of Hanging Fortress, Holy Coast, and Settle The Sky here to talk about the 2000s band ever, Further Seems Forever. First in line is current events: The No Pressure/Enervate/Instill/Big Laugh/Pain Of Truth gig. Regulate/Jon Markson. Meka, Hu-Mid. Sunny Day Real Estate power outages. Furnace Fest: Dying Wish, Sick Of It All, Elliott, Poison The Well, and Strike Anywhere. Escuela Grind. High Vis. Glitterer. Further Seems Forever navigated a chaotic series of lineup changes over the course of the early 2000s to churn out some really good records and some really solid tracks on the records that weren't as complete. Their adjacency to the Christian Hardcore world gave them an exceptional opportunity to expose big audiences to their unique brand of luxuriously composed Emo-Indie crossover. Their records were backdrops for some of the finest work done by vocalists from some of the more disparate corners of Emo, and while they are very much a Bands' Band, their music is held fondly in the hearts of true heads across the scene. Matt and Eugene speak to the legendary Tattoo Runner, Mat Grills. This conversation is a wee rip-snorter: From uber-jacked frontman in a Christian Hardcore band to running his first marathon with his dad, to brain surgery, to the police, to ultramarathons, approximately 10000 tattoos to now being the proud co-owner of two cafes and having just come off the back of 50 days of consecutive marathons (with 10 x 50kms thrown in there), Mat's story is incredible. Inspiring, positive, and rather epic if we do say so ourselves. Why would you do 50 days of marathon distance whilst trying to also have a normal working life? If you were training to run across Australia you might, which is what Mat is planning in 2022. All this and the usual Stuff You Should Know, race results and a love letter Greatest Run Ever. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Pastor Resources podcast! Today Pastor Resource's president Dave Wike continues his conversation with Pastor Bob Franquiz of Calvery Fellowship. In part 2 of their discussion, they talk about dealing with struggles COVID has caused churches. Dave - So, churches have been reopening here for a while. I'd say we have a little more freedom then we have had in a while. How have you been addressing that in your church? And then, try to be as transparent as you can about any mistakes you have made because that is where pastors are going to benefit the most. Then of course definitely what you have done right, that would be a win for them. Bob - One of the decisions that we made early on... About Senior Pastor Bob Franquiz Bob Franquiz is the Founding and Senior Pastor of Calvary Fellowship in Miramar, FL. Bob is also the author of seven books, including Pull: Making your Church Magnetic and Begin: First Steps for the Journey of Faith. Prior to entering Pastoral ministry, Bob played guitar for Christian Hardcore band Strongarm; a band that has been called one of the best Christian Metal bands of all time. About Dave Wike Dave Wike and his wife, Margie, live in Carolina Beach, NC with their four kids and their dog, Happy. When he’s not serving pastors, you can find him strumming his guitar, surfing, or hanging out with his family. He loves the Lord, and feels as though he has called him to caring for pastors time and time again.
Chris Dudley is the keyboardist/synthesizer player for Underoath, a heavy rock band from Tampa Bay Florida who formed in 1997.Some of their music has been categorized as Christian Hardcore, Metalcore, Post-hardcore, Emo or Screamo and more, which is to be expected when you're a band who's been around for 23 years and constantly thrives to evolve. To date, the band has released 8 studio albums. Their fourth album They're Only Chasing Safety is really what catapulted them to becoming household names in the Emo genre in 2004. The album featured hits like Reinventing Your Exit and It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door which helped Underoath become a band with album sales that surpass the -1.5 million copies- mark. With They're Only Chasing Safety being such a big hit, their follow up record was one of the most anticipated albums of 2006 and well... It didn't disappoint. Define the Great Line was released in 2006 and debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling close to 100 000 copies in its first week alone. The album's lead single was Writing on the Walls which ended up being nominated for a Grammy award in 2007. That's one of three Grammy nominations the band has to date. Another one came from the lead single, On My Teeth, which was on their latest album Erase Me. The tune was nominated for for Best Metal Performance in 2018.Alas, 23 years later, Underoath are still touring and rocking out showing that they deserve to be called Kings of the scene.
