In the upcoming episode of The Rumors Are True podcast, Jeff Bellew, a key figure in the Christian punk and hardcore music scenes, will be the featured guest. Known primarily for his work as a guitarist with legendary bands like The Crucified and Stavesacre, Bellew has made a significant impact on both underground music and alternative faith-based movements. Bellew's history is deeply rooted in the early hardcore punk scene of the 1980s. The Crucified, one of the pioneering Christian punk bands, challenged the status quo by blending aggressive, fast-paced music with messages of faith, rebellion, and introspection. Bellew joined the band after their early releases and contributed to their breakthrough album The Pillars of Humanity (1991), which gained both critical and cult status for its raw energy and message. After The Crucified disbanded, Bellew joined Stavesacre, a post-hardcore band that further pushed the boundaries of Christian rock. Known for a heavier, more melodic sound, Stavesacre gained a loyal following in the 90s and early 2000s with their introspective lyrics and atmospheric music. During his appearance on The Rumors Are True, Bellew will likely explore his musical journey—how he moved from the rawness of The Crucified to the more complex sounds of Stavesacre. He may also discuss how faith influenced his career, what it was like to be part of the Christian punk scene, and share stories from decades of performing, writing, and being part of groundbreaking bands. Expect a blend of personal reflections, behind-the-scenes moments, and insights into the lasting legacy of his work. Mark Salomon is a legend and forefather of the Tooth & Nail scene. He was pioneering new artistic and cultural territory while being iconic, professional and a showman all at the same time. He has been massively influential from The Crucified and Stavesacre to Neon Horse and his podcast, Never Was, and his reputation for having solid personal relationships across decades with so many other legends. What a rock singer, a podcaster, and great relationships all have in common is the ability to connect & communicate ideas from your mind though your voice. Everyone loves Mark's voice regardless of what he is doing. If it is his voice expressing his mind, it just works. In this episode we feature our friend Mark Salomon, who emailed us for help after a crash and burn debate with an atheist on another podcast he was a guest on, The Pastor with No Answers (https://soundcloud.com/pastor-with-no-answers). Greetings! This week: as true a tale of Never Was as there Ever Was! Graphic Novelist and at least occasional Stavesacre artist (See both future and past versions of How to Live with a Curse!) Joshua Howard discusses the long and winding road to realizing his dreams... and what comes after. From art school drop out to Dead @ 17 Rebirth - there's quite a story to tell. And not a small amount of the 90's, Tooth & Nail Records and a tiny little town called Dallas, TX in the middle of it all. Enjoy!
Happy Easter, you! Sam West, drummer of Stavesacre joins the story with his story. This guy is a drumming hero of mine. Scaterd Few "Sin Disease" and "JawboneOfAnAss". Are you kidding me? Sam tells us about his family and how he is surrounded by musicians. Sam tells us about Stavesacres' upcoming album and producing it with the great Paul Figueroa. He covers his timeline, auditioning for the band AMEN, kid stories, how he came into Scaterd Few and how grumpy Omar was at the audition. Sam tells us about subbing for the Supertones, Plankeye, Audio Adrenaline, legal issues with recording Jawbone, first Saviour Machine show which led from their drummer not showing up. Seriously? We get Sam's introduction to the film industry through our hero Matt Kitchens which led to his day job on The Real. Then for some reason I tell a story about a Violent Femmes show...not sure why I felt compelled to tell that story. I get to tell Sam that I used his "Speakeasy" drumset on my band's new ep. It'll be out VERY soon...like next week. There's a link below to a Johnny Cash cover off our upcoming EP "Paroles De Fue". Plus the podcast debut of Nick Dinitto. You're gonna dir from the cuteness. Greetings! Three old friends walk into a bar... well, two of them were smart enough to duck, the other one is writing this terrible joke. (Whatever- it wasn't even a bar anyway, it was some cheeky community office space thing) Yes, it's true, like a three-fold cord of grumpiness, Mike Lewis of Giving is Believing, Billy Power of Urban Achiever and yours truly all got together to solve all the world's problems, right before Christmas, in the Greatest City in the World. As you've probably been dealing with any number of those problems today.... why not hang around with us an find out why we didn't get much done? (Hint: GUNNNNZ) Come! Warm yourself by the fires of the Podcastalypse, weary Never Wases! Enjoy!
Greetings! Hey look... it's a new Never Was! 2015 marked the 25 year anniversary of an album largely unknown by the masses, and even by those students of passionate, artistic expression within Christendom: Sin Disease, the debut full length album from punk/alt rock pioneers, Scaterd Few (sic - but you should already know that) I spoke with Allan Aguire about the time period, the process and the experiences that went into this album so many years ago and the impact it had on me and so many others. Because this album was so important to me, I had to call in some backup: We'll hear from Sam West, former drummer of Scaterd Few and eventual drummer of Stavesacre and... Adam Again legend, will-o-wisp mystery solo-artisté and all around lovely person Riki Michele as well! LIGHTS OUUUUUUUT Enjoy!
