Blake is joined once again by Nick Diener—founder of Oneder Effects and guitarist/vocalist for The Swellers—for a wide-ranging chat that hits everything from vintage SGs and Freebird lore to dad life, Discord burnout, and the existential dread of messy workspaces. Nick shares stories of playing Gary Rossington's actual guitars, visiting Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, building pedals in cluttered chaos, and trying to stay creative in a post-pandemic industry hit hard by tariffs and uncertainty. They also dive into martial arts, musician mental health, content fatigue, the pros and cons of podcast video, and why dog-related GoFundMes might just bankrupt us all. Whether you're here for the gear, the laughs, or some philosophical dad-core, this episode's got a little something for everybody—especially disorganized pedal nerds with too many unfinished projects. Jono Diener was the drummer of Michigan-based punk rock band The Swellers from 2002-2015. Since the group's departure, Jono has found himself taking part in many different ventures. Being a hired gun for a few years for bands like The Early November and Versus the World, he eventually joined No Trigger and toured all over the world with them. He also took a break from being behind the kit to fronting the band Baggage with bass and vocal duties taking center stage. He co-founded Rootless Coffee in 2020 providing ethically sourced roasting with a variety of intricate flavors for customers to choose from. He's also an acclaimed comic book artist and an avid runner. His newest band, 84 Tigers recently opened for Nada Surf and released their debut full-length record, "Time in the Lighthouse" in 2022.

How low can, and should, you go? Today we're joined by Nick Diener of Oneder Effects and Oneder Guitar Company to talk about notes below the standard six string. We start with the early magic of a Strat in E flat and follow it through baritone guitars and his recently acquired seven string, learning about his influences and creative processes with projects like The Swellers and The Apology Tour along the way. There's a lot of 90s music talk and a lot of modern pedal talk. At this point, if we don't mention nu metal and parallel routing, is it even Object Worship? Playlist: 01. Lit – My Own Worst Enemy 02. The Chats – Smoko 03. Welcome to an all-new bonus episode of Films for the Void! In this episode, Landon interviews Jonathan "Jono" Diener - a Flint-based musician, comic writer, marketing master, habitual tweeter, and certified cat and coffee enthusiast. You may know him as the drummer for former Fueled by Ramen punk band The Swellers, who spent the better part of a decade touring worldwide until calling it quits in 2015. Since then, however, he's kept incredibly busy as the Creative Director for Rootless Coffee in Flint, and as the drummer for the newly assembled band 84 Tigers, formed alongside Small Brown Bike members Mike and Ben Reed, as well as for Worcester, Massachusetts punk band No Trigger. You can follow the work he's doing with Rootless over on Twitter @ rootlesscoffee, and if you live on the east coast, you can catch 84 Tigers in Brooklyn, Providence, and Boston this March.Landon chats with Jono about making the move from DIY touring to marketing, bestows advice for those working in freelance spaces, the work he's doing with Rootless Coffee, and, of course, movies - all on the latest episode of Films for the Void!TIME STAMPS00:00:00 Interview w/ Jonathan Diener00:33:22 Round Robin Discussion
Nick Diener is mostly remembered as the frontman of the Michigan-based pop punk band The Swellers. Nowadays, he runs a company called Oneder Effects that builds specialized and custom guitar pedals for musicians everywhere. Over 9 years of being on the road and hundreds of shows later, Nick is still fully captivated within the music scene, immersing himself into his newest business venture. We talk about the longevity of the band, producing records for Hot Mulligan and raising his family in Michigan. We also touch upon his 20 years of maintaining a vegan diet, how a friend of his would microwave his fecal matter and how he adjusted to life again after sleeping on floors for a decade. If you're interested in checking out his effects pedals, look no further then @onedereffects and onedereffects.com ! Go rip The Swellers. Be sure to rate the show with a 5-star rating to keep it from slipping into the ass crack of oblivion. #KellensPettyTalkShow

This week I sit down with Nick from Oneder Effects. He's "lived" the dream of touring the world with his band The Swellers up until they decided to hang it up and transition to the next phase of life. Nick has done quite a lot after The Swellers, such as starting Oneder studios as well as Oneder Effects. We get into the pedal that started it all as well as some life and other struggles Nick has had to over come in his journey. Nick Diener has a super fun story! From signed artist in the band The Swellers, touring the world to running his own studio, Oneder Studios, to now making his own brand of effects pedals - he's done it all in the music industry. I loved this conversation with Nick about his experiences finding his own confidence to start trying new things and how that led to building effects pedals and a new burgeoning company. On today's episode, I interview Chris Beeble who is an audio engineer/producer at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins Colorado. Chris received a degree in Audio Production from The University of Denver, where he also studied jazz bass and composition. With a musical background that spans far across the spectrum, Chris brings unique tools to the studio such as experience in synth programming, string arranging, and signal processor construction, among others. There is nothing he enjoys more than working with bands and seeing a song grow from start to finish. The Blasting Room is a recording studio in Fort Collins, Colorado. Founded by members of the punk rock band All in 1994, it is owned and operated by musician Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag, All, Only Crime) and Jason Livermore. Hey there friends! I hope you are all doing well out there beyond podcast land. I'm very excited, on todays episode, I'm speaking with my buddy Johnny Hamlin. Johnny and I connected on social media last year. We talked about fitness originally and it was shortly after that in which I realized that I had been listening to Johnny's band Lights Over Bridgeport for a few months. Nick Deiner from The Swellers had posted about the band because he produced their newest record "Better This Way" and I loved the record. Lights Over Bridgeport is a band from south Chicago. They put out one of my favorite records of 2020, so definitely go check it out, if you haven't already. Over time, I noticed that Johnny was really into lifting, I'd see him doing some impressive weight on social media, and we'd chat periodically about fitness and music, so I knew I wanted to get him on the podcast. And we talk about fitness and what that has meant to Johnny. We talk about his band, working with Nick, and we also talk about the Chicago music scene. We also talk about our shared love of Fat Wreck Chords, Epitaph Records, Propagandhi, Strung Out, Face to Face, Jimmy Eat World, The Misfits, Hum, and others. I had a lot of fun chatting with Johnny, I feel like we're kindred spirits. Johnny strikes me as a hardworking, humble guy. Very appreciative of what he and his band mates have been to do and accomplish and I admire that. So, without further ado, please enjoy this wide-ranging conversation with Mr. Johnny Hamlin, guitarist and vocalist for Lights Over Bridgeport.
This week we had former guest Joey Cobra return to the show for an in-studio interview at the radio station! In this episode, I have the opportunity to sit down with The Sweller's drummer Jonathan "Jono" Diener. Jonathan is also the front man for his most recent musical project Baggage. He's also in the musical projects Braided Veins and No Trigger. Jonathan has recently been working to promote his new coffee company Rootless Coffee out of Flint Michigan where he lives. Jonathan and I talk about marketing, creativity, and identity, and how they are all interconnected when it comes to pursuing new projects. Whether it be playing in bands, starting companies, or writing blogs and articles, Jono does a great job at juggling a lot of plates and producing a lot of really cool things. It was a pleasure to talk with him, and I think anyone with a passion for creativity and art will take something away from our conversation. Enjoy! The Swellers were an American punk band from Flint, Michigan. Their music is influenced by melodic punk rock bands as well as alternative and indie rock from the 1990s. It was announced April 22, 2011, through Alternative Press that the new album titled Good For Me would be released on June 14, where one of the new tracks called "Best I Ever Had" could be streamed. In April 2012 they announced their departure from the Fueled by Ramen label. They would release a 7" (Vehicle City Blues) on Side One Dummy Records. On October 16, The Swellers self-released an EP entitled Running Out Of Places To Go. It is composed of five songs that the band recorded and produced independently. The Swellers signed to No Sleep Records in May 2013 and announced in August 2013 that they would be releasing their 4th full length, The Light Under Closed Doors, on October 29. On April 15, 2014, The Swellers announced via Facebook their release of "B-sides and Rarities." On June 24, 2014 they announced via Facebook and Twitter that they are breaking up and booking farewell shows. In February and March 2015, the band performed at Soundwave festival in Australia. On May 1, 2015, they played their last show at Groezrock. LET'S CONNECT: Kyle's Instagram Kyle's Facebook Email: Kyledevlinfitness@gmail.com

Welcome to the first episode of the NEW Concentric Circles, the show all about being a creative professional in the 21st century. In this action packed episode Vinnie Fiorello, Obi Fernandez, Jon Diener and Jim Tramontana have a frank discussion about the importance of trust when working in creative teams. The dudes share personal experiences from the bands they've been as well as the tons of other creative projects they've been associated with over the years. Some of you may recall Concentric Circles originally was conceived as a creativity podcast, but because of various extenuating circumstances we put the project on hold. And now, like a phoenix reborn from its own ashes, the show has been resurrected to a more glorious and elaborate format. By taking advantage of the increased availability and the consumption of online streaming, we are proud to announce the show will be live on Twitch and then rebroadcast over various social media and podcast platforms. Another exciting development is the show itself doubled in size, including musical and literary luminaries Obi Fernandez of Westbound Train and Jono Diener of Swellers to round out the original hosts Vinnie Fiorello (Less Than Jake) and, me, Jim Tramontana (you know me. I write, I rock...) Each of the four hosts brings a unique perspective on what it means to be a creative professional in the 21st century. We look forward to sharing insights, tips, and tricks from the quartet and from exciting guests who are out there crushing it. This episode broadcast live on June 11tH at 6:30 PM Eastern standard time at twitch.tv/concentriccircles. We hope that this is the start of a thriving community where in-depth discussions can begin and radiate out, inspiring and educating us all to be more prolific creators and enrich the world with our gifts and creations. The Stereo was a pop-rock and roll band started in early 1999 by former ska-punk band frontmen Jamie Woolford (of Animal Chin) and Rory Phillips (of The Impossibles). The pair were initially brought together on the recommendation of their record label Fueled By Ramen. The duo released their debut album Three Hundred in summer 1999. Over their recording and touring history, the band endured a number of line-up changes. Singer-songwriter Woolford was always affiliated with the group and composed all selections on subsequent releases. The group disbanded in early 2004 with Woolford and bassist Chris Serafini reconvening to form the band Let Go. In 2009, Alternative Press named Three Hundred one of the '10 most influential albums from 1999 that shaped Punk today'. In 2011, The Stereo briefly reunited with original members Phillips and Woolford to perform at Terminal 5 in New York City with Paramore, Fun, The Swellers, and This Providence to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Fueled By Ramen. I got them on the Skype and this is what we talked about: Their performance wardrobe Working for Fueled By Ramen The Impossibles Animal Chin Coming up with the name Their dynamic as a band Rory’s exit from the band A podcast being in the works And a ton more This episode is sponsored by www.houseofmerch.com/ where you can buy band merch and get 10% off by using promo code "scene" when you check out. Episode 180 - The Swellers had a hell of a career. An underground skate punk band with a knack for providing the perfect pop-punk hooks at the perfect time - they got signed to Fall Out Boy's Fueled By Ramen label and went on tour with Paramore at their peak. But once the band started being told to tone it down with the "tweeting about pooping" and other antics - they decided to part ways - also at their peak. Nick Diener - frontman of The Swellers and now acclaimed producer joins the show to talk about what went right, what went wrong, his new hardcore band Wounded Touch, and if the Swellers might ever come back. THIS EPISODE BROUGHT TO YOU EXCLUSIVELY BY THE NATIVE SOUNDThe vocalist from The Swellers, Nick Diener, is my guest on the show this week and I couldn't be more happy to bring you this raw and honest conversation. We speak about what it's like to break a band up, the transitions that he is going through in his own life and jealousy between bands (which is something very few bands/people discuss publicly). Nick was extremely gracious in sharing his thoughts and we deliberately let all of the coverage of The Swellers break-up subside before this episode was released. Please donate to the show! Thanks to Mike, Mike and Steve from Hollow Earth! *Note: I don't know why, but the opening song/intro I had recorded got cut off in the final publish. Boo. So don't be confused if I said the first song was by the Swellers and then you don't hear it. Sorry! PLAYLIST: Another Breath - "Nausea"Hollow Earth - "There Will Come Soft Rains"Run With The Hunted - "Red Queen"
Topics Include: The Gaslight Anthem's two new songs and how we feel about having to post about "leaked" songs from bands we like, The Swellers saying goodbye, the disappearance of music videos, and personal space and touching musicians while they play. Sponsor: www.facebook.com/RewardPA
Jonathan Diener is the drummer of The Swellers and BRAIDEDVEINS, as well as a friend of mine. He's on the show talking about Nada Surf's "Let Go", an album packed full of awesome gems.
As drummer and half of the songwriting team behind The Swellers, Jonathan Diener's punk proficiency has helped the Flint, Michigan quartet grow a cult following and tour with everyone from Paramore to Anti-Flag. Since 2002, the band has released four full-length albums and two EPs; their most recent release, 2013's The Light Under Closed Doors finds the band at a crossroads in life, imbuing the music with a sense of urgency and desperation that made it one of the year's best albums. I caught up with Jonathan to talk about writing songs with his brother, how a would-be side project inspired their new album and why it's best not to suppress your inspirations. If you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or Stitcher so you don’t miss a single episode of the stories behind your favorite songs. Thanks for listening! --------------------- Links: Jonathan Diener on Twitter The Swellers on Twitter | Facebook | Bandcamp Braided Veins on Twitter | Facebook | Bandcamp Voice & Verse Podcast on iTunes | Stitcher | Youtube

Holy cow, I think we've got a podcast here, now just what're we supposed to do? We're talking about Weezer with Jonathan Diener of The Swellers, and Tyler Soucy of A Great Big Pile of Leaves. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Today's mini episode comes directly from the Vans Warped Tour and features Nick (Guitar/Vox) and Jonathan (Drums) Diener from the band The Swellers! There are so many wordsmiths and book readers on this tour, we felt we should tap into their minds and let you in on what they dig in terms of the written word. And these boys dig some pretty radical words. This veers from our established format a bit as none of us knew what we were going to talk about prior to recording. But the Brothers Diener definitely cover both side of the literary spectrum (if by both sides you, like me, Justin, mean fiction and non-fiction). Oh, and at the end of the episode listen to the song "Hands" from their latest album Running Out Of Places To Go. Enjoy. AUDIO NOTE: Due to heavy traffic coming in and out of the vehicle we recorded in, the levels bounce around a bit.
Featuring special guest Jono Diener of The Swellers.
We called up my good (and new) friend Jonothan Diener who plays drums for The Swellers and discussed many things including the fear one gets about the unknown, never really fitting in musically and many other great topics. So, we broke some big ground with the announcing of The Swellers signing to Fueled by Ramen, even if it didn’t get posted until after the news was public knowledge. We decided to take this week to bring you a band you’ll be hearing all about in the coming years, Echoes of Harper’s Ferry. Imagine […]
The Swellers…Sounds like it should be a porn title, right? Well it may be but it’s also a collection of rocking dudes, including two brothers and a Canadian. Sounds like a recipe for a zany buddy comedy, right? Lots of questions this week, eh? Anyway, we caught up with these guys literally the day before […]
