Grammy-nominated Lancaster five-piece AUGUST BURNS RED — JB Brubaker [lead guitar], Brent Rambler [rhythm guitar], Matt Greiner [drums], Jake Luhrs [vocals], and Dustin Davidson [bass] — have announced their new album Death Below. It arrives on March 24 via SharpTone Records. "It's no secret that the past few years have been extremely dark and challenging," Brubaker says. "Death Below is here as a result of that time in each our lives and the emotions that came with it. We were motivated by uncertainty, fear, outrage, and triumph. I feel this is the darkest, most personal album we've ever written, and I couldnt be more proud of what the five of us made together."Today, they have shared the video for the first single "Ancestry," featuring Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach. "'Ancestry' is a complex and technical ABR track held together by perhaps the most painful and personal lyrics Jake has ever written," says Brubaker. "I loved this song in every phase since its inception. From the instrumental rendition, to the lyrics and vocals being added, to finally bringing it all together with Jesse's anthemic guest vocals, 'Ancestry' is a song we've been looking forward to sharing with the world for a long time."The album features additional guest spots from guitarist Jason Richardson, as well as JT Cavey of ERRA and Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath. This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

HEAVY Music Interviews

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 20, 2022 12:52

Pop punk titans Sleeping With Sirens earlier this month released their latest album Complete Collapse via Sumerian Records. It is an album that is at times heavier than anything the band has released in the past, with collaborations with some heavier vocalists such as Underoath's Spencer Chamberlain adding to the intensity. The band is also just about to complete a tour of smaller sized venues to get more back in touch with their fans, going straight from there to a number of shows as part of the When We Were Young Festival, before heading to Australia for three dates as part of Good Things Festival in early December.HEAVY caught up with rhythm guitarist Nick Martin and drummer Matty Best for more information. We start by asking how the early reception has been for Complete Collapse."It's been amazing," Best beamed. "This tour we're currently doing is a bunch of small venues to celebrate with our core fan base, and it's safe to say that the new songs are going down as favourites better and better every night. It's been amazing."As alluded to, Complete Collapse has moments of heaviness unlike anything Sleeping With Sirens has put out before, so we press the boys as to what the band set out to do musically with the album."I think that we were wanting to channel the nostalgic feel," Martin began, "kind of going back to our roots which ties in to this little tour that we are doing. I think we had a vision for the album and that vision was to just have fun, and that subconsciously tapped into the nostalgic feel with what we were doing. It was still heavy, still rocked, but has kind of little moments that are a nod to earlier Sirens records while also being current. Again, just having fun with what we were doing, so I think we were able to achieve that and it seems like people are really drawn into that and also noticing that. It's been a good feeling."In the full interview, the boys talk more about the musical direction on Complete Collapse, the guest artists they used and what they brought to each track, the singles released and how they represent the album, the album title and what it refers to, playing the smaller venues and what the band gets out of those shows, their upcoming Good Things shows and what to expect, a homecoming of sorts for Best and more.

Spencer Chamberlain and Aaron Gillespie have been a substantial part in the emergence of what is known as “trade-off vocals" in our scene. This episode takes an unconventional approach to examine their deep, personal relationship and the trust involved in two people speaking with one collective voice. Spencer and Aaron have a special bond based on the amount of time they have spent traveling the world together as well as their unique position of being lead vocalists in the same band. They share a point of view that even the other members of the band have limited insight into. This conversation gives you a glance into that relationship. They're Only Chasing Safety walked so that albums like Someday Came Suddenly could sprint at freak-like speeds. Still, there's something about Underøath's first effort with new vocalist Spencer Chamberlain that has yet to be replicated by any band since. We have a jampacked special episode for you this week to celebrate The Amity Affliction's upcoming Heaven And Hell east coast tour featuring Underoath, Crossfaith and Pagan, who, all join the podcast for a chat. The main event is The Amity Affliction's Ahren Stringer who discusses the band's intentions with the Brisbane leg of the tour in which they're hoping to turn the Heaven and Hell Festival into an annual event, if the punters get behind it. He also chats with podcast host Browny about the year that was the Misery saga and the strange, yet totally expected reactions fans had when they first heard the release, some disapproving of the drastic change in style, only for them to come back around the longer they sat on it. He also talks about the band's future, the next release and he reflects on their earlier "glory" days (pun intended) and how far they've come since then. Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath calls in to chat about their last appearance in Australia for UNIFY and why they didn't make it to the west coast of Australia for their Erase Me album cycle. Kenta 'Ken' Koie from Crossfaith also reflects on their UNIFY set back in January and gives us all an insight into their partying lifestyle while Pagan frontwoman Nikki Brumen takes a look back at their hectic year which has seen them flying to dominate UK audiences, gain massive popularity in Australia and what direction they'll be taking their next release (and if we'll hear some new material on this tour). Plus we play a stack of tracks from the above-mentioned bands and kick it all off with Thornhill's new song 'Nurture', which no doubt fans will hear when they play alongside Trophy Eyes, Make Them Suffer, Southeast Desert Metal, Void of Vision and Endless Heights in Brisbane. #WoSUATW #TheAmityAffliction #AmityAffliction #TAA #AhrenStringer #Misery #HeavenAndHellTour #SpencerChamberlain #Underoath #KentaKoie #Crossfaith #NikkiBrumen #Pagan #AustralianBands #Metal #Metalcore #BlackMetal #MelodicMetal #Thornhill #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU

After disappointing a legion of fans around the world by calling time on the band in 2013, Underoath surprised everyone - including themselves - when the decision to reunite for a run of anniversary shows for Define The Great Line in 2015 ultimately led to a unanimous decision to reignite the band's career."We played six nights a week with one day off and these shows were two hours long"! recalled vocalist Spencer Chamberlain. "I was singing for two hours per night for six days in a row every week, I was fucking dead! The one day we had off a week I was laying in bed thinking how am I gonna make it through this tour? I think during the first practice me and Aaron (Gillespie, drums) had talked about why aren't we just going for this? This is stupid. We should be making music. Halfway through that tour me and Aaron decided that we were going to write a record. Whether it be Underoath or not we weren't sure but me and him decided we were gonna make some music together and we had to wait for the other guys to figure it out. I think halfway through that tour we decided we would do a European run and then halfway through that, we did the Australian tour and decided everyone was on board to make a record. It did take time. It wasn't right away like 'hey, let's get the band back together and make a record and do this full time again. It was very step by step".In the full interview Spencer talks about Underoath's upcoming Australian tour with Amity Affliction, Crossfaith and Pagan, the fact they are actually supporting not headlining, the benefits of playing to another bands crowd, last years comeback album Erase Me, the break up of the band and how close it came to being permanent, the musical changes in the band between their 2010 album Disambiguation and Erase Me eight years later, a message for Aussie fans and more.

We opened the show by discussing some relational issues. The harsh reality is that interpersonal relationship fallout carries over to the church. As much as we love people while they are going through relationship issues, our mind can go to “how will this affect the church?” It is hard to expect people to serve when they are dealing with serious turmoil in their lives! But the church still needs people to serve. This morning we had the opportunity to talk with our friend Ronald Long about how to get students involved in serving in the church. The question that he asks is “what am I doing that a student could be doing?” He gave tips to having students serve in the student ministry, but also in the whole church. We talked about the amount of work that goes in to equipping students to serve and lead, but then discussed the value for the church for the students that comes from them serving. We closed the show by talking about deconversions; people leaving the faith all together. We specifically referenced the statements by Spencer Chamberlain from the band Underoath. He claims, among other things, that Christianity ruined his life. We talked about the importance of having the freedom to mess up, and the reality of grace being messy.Check out our resources in the DYM store here: https://www.downloadyouthministry.com/shop?author=8Be sure to like The Morning After Ministry on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/morningafterministry/instagram.com/morningafterminandtwitter.com/morningaftermin. Underoath were famously lumped into the "Christian Metal" basket for many years (which is how I found the band funnily enough). The guys have all since left that nonsense behind [hallelujah] & are now just dudes, with no agenda aside from writing honest music.

We talked about the importance of having the freedom to mess up, and the reality of grace being messy. Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain is our guest. We discuss the band's new record Erase Me (out April 6th), the decision to make a new record after reuniting to tour, the reason the band decided to call it quits in 2013, the importance of the break-up in hindsight, his past struggles with addiction and the way he beat it, the most irritating thing about the current state of our country and much more. MetalSucks co-founder Vince Neilstein joins Petar, Brandon and Jozalyn to discuss the controversy surrounding Watain: the image that surfaced of their guitarist giving the Nazi salute, frontman Erik Danielsson's response and the people who defend the band. We also talk about the discovery of Inquisition vocalist Dagon's past child pornography charges and the pass that certain artists get despite their heinous past behavior, and we talk about the tragic passing of Caleb Scofield of Cave In and how fans of the band have stepped up to show his family that they aren't alone. The band Underoath were brought up during a conversation two episodes ago, because of the use of certain words and religion in rock. We thought it was a good time to catch up with Spencer Chamberlin lead singer of Underoath. Works out even better, because their new song "Rapture" has hit and a new album called 'Erase Me' will be out in April. All topics are covered and nothing is left out during this very personal conversation with the lead singer of one of metal-core's biggest and most influential bands.

This week Aaron & John use Underøath and their mega-breakout hit album, "They're Only Chasing Safety" as fodder for their soapboxes. We cover the Christian Hardcore scene, the explosion of their album, & how successful this band was with their amazing chart-topping feat with the legendary billboard top 100 chart. This week, we're firing up the time machine to head back to 2004 in order to chronicle Underoath's game-changing album They're Only Chasing Safety. The album is still to this day heralded as a landmark release in the metalcore genre thanks to its blend of muscle and melody -- provided by frontman Spencer Chamberlain and drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie, respectively. Songs like "Reinventing Your Exit" became staples on MySpace pages around the world and inspired countless bands to try their hand at imitating the instant-classic sound (just look around the Warped Tour stages for the past few years for proof). I caught up with Gillespie (who's now holding down the kit as part of Paramore's live band) to chat about the album's beginnings, how it changed his life and much more. ——————— Links: Aaron Gillespie’s Website | Twitter | Instagram They're Only Chasing Safety on iTunes | Amazon Voice & Verse Podcast on iTunes | Stitcher | YouTube | Facebook
