US-Ukraine Summit Yields No Tomahawk Commitment; Focus on Attrition. John Hardie and Bill Roggio discuss how reports suggest President Trump pressed Zelensky to agree to a ceasefire based on Russian territorial demands, though no commitment was made on providing Tomahawk missiles. Tomahawks would provide Ukraine with a highly useful long-range strike capability but would not be a "wonder weapon." With Russia holding a material advantage, Ukraine's best strategy is exhausting Russia's offensive potential by inflicting disproportionate attrition, independent of Trump's softening support. 1899 UKRAINE

Tomahawk Missiles Would Extend Ukraine's Range but Are Not a Wonder Weapon. John Hardie discusses the possibility of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Hardie argues that the Tomahawk would extend Ukraine's range beyond existing Western missiles and packs more power than Ukraine's domestically produced drones. It is also noted as being a more capable missile that is harder to shoot down than current Ukrainian long-range systems. Hardie supports enhancing Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities, but cautions that the Tomahawk is not a "wonder weapon" that will turn the tide of the war. Practical and stockpile considerations for the United States, as well as alternative missile options, are also relevant. 1957
HEADLINE: US Intelligence, Tomahawks, and Escalation in the Ukraine War GUEST NAMES: John Hardie, Bill Roggio SUMMARY: The US is considering providing Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles, potentially facilitating strikes on Russian energy nodes using US intelligence. While Russia warns of escalation, experts believe their response will likely be strengthening air defense rather than direct conflict with NATO. Ukrainian officials are urgently seeking air defense systems due to increasing Russian missile and drone production. 1957

PREVIEW: Vladimir Putin Threatens Escalation Over Tomahawk Missiles to Ukraine; Response Likely More Bark Than Bite GUEST NAME: John Hardie (Foundation for Defense of Democracies) 100-WORD SUMMARY: John Batchelor and John Hardie discuss Vladimir Putin's threats of escalation if allies provide Tomahawk missiles and other tools of war to Ukraine. Hardie suggests that Russia has been "more bark than bite" throughout the conflict and is extremely unlikely to resort to tactical nuclear use. Putin's response might be asymmetrical, perhaps strengthening air defense or stepping up "gray zone actions" in Europe, or supporting the Houthis. Direct military retaliation against a NATO member is improbable because Putin recognizes he would lose such a war.
Russia's Multi-Front War: European Drones, Space Threats, and Tomahawk Missiles Guests: John Hardie, Bill Roggio John Hardie discusses Russia's expanding conflict, which includes drones over European airports like Munich and Berlin, viewed by Denmark as Russian "gray zone" activity aimed at testing Western response. NATO has been slow to adopt cost-effective counter-drone measures, unlike Ukraine's use of mobile fire groups. Russia is also engaging in anti-satellite activity, with Russian satellites reportedly stalking UK military satellites in low Earth orbit. Russia continues to target Ukrainian energy infrastructure with massive barrages as winter approaches. The US is reportedly considering supplying longer-range Tomahawk missiles to allies for transfer to Ukraine. These missiles could strike deep into Russian military-industrial sites, which, coupled with economic pressure, might convince Putin to pause the war. 1811 BRUSSELS

PREVIEW: US Tomahawk Missile Transfer to Ukraine Considered for Strikes on Russian Infrastructure Guest:John Hardie John Batchelor speaks with John Hardie of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) regarding the potential US transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine via Europe. The Tomahawk is a cruise missile with a range of 1,500 miles (2,000 kilometers), typically carrying conventional weaponry, although it is capable of carrying a nuclear-tipped warhead. If supplied, the Tomahawks would bring Russian infrastructure, especially war-fighting associated sites, into range. The move is viewed as a "counterpunch" due to Trump's reported frustration with Putin's involvement in Ukraine peace talks. The potential Tomahawk supply is reportedly being considered alongside the Trump administration's decision to provide intelligence for Ukrainian strikes against Russian energy infrastructure. These long-range missiles could target key Russian defense industrial sites, such as Shahed-type drone factories in Alabuga. This possible transfer is noted as a potential escalation.

PREVIEW. HEADLINE TOPIC: Analysis of Drones in Polish Airspace and Ukrainian Barrage GUEST NAMES: John Hardie, Bill Roggio GUEST NAME AND TITLE: John Hardie of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Bill Roggio of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies PREVIEW: John Hardie and Bill Roggio joined John Batchelor to discuss recent drone activity, including a barrage of 815 drones against Ukraine and 19-20 Shahed-type drones entering Polish airspace. These drones, possibly decoys without warheads and potentially fitted with extra fuel tanks for range extension, originated from Belarus amidst an exercise. Hardie doubts the Polish incident was an accident, citing flight paths, number, and extended range capabilities. NATO tracked all drones, intercepting those posing a threat. The discussion aims to determine if the incursions were purposeful or accidental, providing a helpful analysis of the events. 1955

This is a really fun conversation exploring very different things than this podcast usually covers and it was great to talk to Claire-Louise and share this with you. It's a great excuse for me to think about clothing construction, the importance of fabric in telling stories and all the nerdy details of working with museum objects, which I have really loved.
