As huge Van Halen fans growing up, The Wolf & Action Jackson always took a keen interest in the career of Wolfgang Van Halen and his band Mammoth. Though The Wolf had seen Wolfgang on tour with Van Halen on bass near the end of their run, he'd missed opportunities to see Mammoth in the past. However, he remedied when they hit Louisville on the last night of their latest tour of the USA and boy was he treated to a killer show. Wolfgang Van Halen is front and center as the lead singer, lead guitarist and lead storyteller. He delighted in the fact that his band has received so much support for their first two albums (Mammoth WVH & Mammoth II) and entertained the crowd by pronouncing Louisville (Loo-a-vul) correctly, profusely (and profanely) thanking opening act Intervals and threw us a headfake with a few bars of an Oasis classic. The tight band ripped through songs off Mammoth II like Erase Me, Better Than You and Take A Bow while also breaking out the acoustic for Distance and kicking out his Dad Eddie's favorite Think It Over from the first record. He bends bluesy notes in some of his solos while working in some of that tapping that made Eddie a Rock God. It's no surprise they've earned opening gigs with Metallica and Foo Fighters as well as some top notch European festival spots. Seeing them in a club (The Mercury Ballroom) while they're on their way up was a fun night out and we highly recommend catching them if you can! “Tone is not important,” is an interesting phrase to hear while filming a Rig Rundown. But Underoath's Tim McTague has good reason to shake his head at tone purists.“Gear infatuation can be super cool because it's a passion or a hobby, but it's not necessary for me to do my job. I don't want to degrade anyone who is into it, but it's not my thing,” admits McTague. So, what is his thing? We found that what he had to say during this Rundown echoed what he told PG in 2018 after recording Erase Me.“One of the special things about Underoath is we've always been energy- and vibe-focused. We play as much or just enough to where it gets the point across.”And during our Rundown, he continued along those sentiments: “To me, what's important is energy and things that move the needle with a room full of people. My tech Diego Casillas is a tone geek, so when I can get someone to use technology that's efficient for my onstage focus and sounds awesome, it's really the perfect marriage.”While he's not precious about his gear, the resulting conversation with PG's Perry Bean at Nashville's Marathon Music Works before a sold-out show on April 2 was both provocative and pragmatic. He explained why he “doesn't need to tour with nice guitars” but also acknowledged the benefit of digital gear and programming. He noted that he tries to keep it “punk rock as possible.” Then the next thing he said, sarcastically, was “wanna check out my computer?” All in all, what this Rundown lacks in guitar gluttony, it makes up for in rational substance.Brought to you by D'Addario XPND Pedalboard.
My birthday is April 5th and my Mum's was on April 9th. This was a close bond we shared when she was alive. So, during the very start of the COVID-19 pandemic I wanted to lift my spirits, and thus my first 'Lost In' Project aired on Thursday 9th April 2020 on Facebook. During the entire lockdown and mixed live on Facebook, before they shut it down, Lost In was reaching 100's of people in their homes and gardens over the 4 and 5-hour-long genre-spanning mixes. The project ran for two and a half years continuing on Mixcloud. 83 mixes in total! This mix is a throwback to those special Thursday evenings mixed live on air with the Lost in Faithful from around the world connecting together online. I'm still full of gratitude for this project and how it reached like-minded, gentle souls who love their electronic music mashed up into a weekly audio journey. The mix was played on 7th April 2022. Since their return, Joel Cook and Brandon Rike of TNSN DVSN have been collaborating with Underoath to create some of the most stunning visuals and conceptual presentations for the band that include Grammy Nominated projects, live streams and more. Erase Me, Observatory, and Voyeurist have all pushed the limits and set new precedents visually in both the physical space and across the bands digital footprint. In this conversation with Joel Cook and Tim Mctauge we explore the mechanics and thinking that empowers the small tight knit group to accomplish so much. This is just a bonus drop of a new project I've been working on that lives in the Labeled Universe that has a pretty good crossover with BC given that Underoath is the subject. This is the setup for a 10 episode series covering their newest record. Coming off of “Erase Me”, the band was filled with conflict over sonic direction and personal issues. Underoath found themselves at a crossroads and were forced to dig deep and reflect on their history within the DIY punk & hardcore scene and the passion they felt at the inception of the band. With that focus, the band made the bold decision to not have any outside input from producers and set off on their own creative silo. https://link.chtbl.com/underoath

Julien Baker, mxmtoon, Thao Nguyen and Quinn Christopherson discuss how to separate work life and leisure time, learning to embrace being selfish, and failing at keeping your studio tidy, Julien Baker is one-third of the group boygenius, along with Grammy-nominated Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. She describes her music as “indie folk” and in it explores her relationship with faith, addiction, friends, and the human condition. Her third album, Little Oblivions, was released earlier this year. Chris Dudley is the keyboardist/synthesizer player for Underoath, a heavy rock band from Tampa Bay Florida who formed in 1997.Some of their music has been categorized as Christian Hardcore, Metalcore, Post-hardcore, Emo or Screamo and more, which is to be expected when you're a band who's been around for 23 years and constantly thrives to evolve. To date, the band has released 8 studio albums. Their fourth album They're Only Chasing Safety is really what catapulted them to becoming household names in the Emo genre in 2004. The album featured hits like Reinventing Your Exit and It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door which helped Underoath become a band with album sales that surpass the -1.5 million copies- mark. With They're Only Chasing Safety being such a big hit, their follow up record was one of the most anticipated albums of 2006 and well... It didn't disappoint. Define the Great Line was released in 2006 and debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling close to 100 000 copies in its first week alone. The album's lead single was Writing on the Walls which ended up being nominated for a Grammy award in 2007. That's one of three Grammy nominations the band has to date. Another one came from the lead single, On My Teeth, which was on their latest album Erase Me. The tune was nominated for for Best Metal Performance in 2018.Alas, 23 years later, Underoath are still touring and rocking out showing that they deserve to be called Kings of the scene.
Yeh, so this was one of those episodes that really solidify my vision of the podcast. Sure we started off on some regular degular nonsense, but then we got to the nitty gritty and stayed there. Truly classic. I was joined by old friend Rob, AKA RobWNTR, as well as VB (Bvby Buddha), Jon (Nesu), and Edwin, who you'll hear snoring in the background. They are all crucial parts of the multi-genre musical group BADPPL and we got together in Manhattan, NY to perform at Maria Salazar's book release party. We talked about dealing with death, musical legacies, and much more. Songs of the mind: Intro - "Cluttered Minds" by Thirty, "Erase Me" by KiD CuDi (ft. Kanye West); Break Songs - "Rocketship" by 070 Snake, "Too Bad I Have to Destroy You" by KiD CuDi; Outro - "Durm" by Swami Da Bullhemian (ft. Leo Legend, Don Cov, & T.A.Z.) We have a jampacked special episode for you this week to celebrate The Amity Affliction's upcoming Heaven And Hell east coast tour featuring Underoath, Crossfaith and Pagan, who, all join the podcast for a chat. The main event is The Amity Affliction's Ahren Stringer who discusses the band's intentions with the Brisbane leg of the tour in which they're hoping to turn the Heaven and Hell Festival into an annual event, if the punters get behind it. He also chats with podcast host Browny about the year that was the Misery saga and the strange, yet totally expected reactions fans had when they first heard the release, some disapproving of the drastic change in style, only for them to come back around the longer they sat on it. He also talks about the band's future, the next release and he reflects on their earlier "glory" days (pun intended) and how far they've come since then. Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath calls in to chat about their last appearance in Australia for UNIFY and why they didn't make it to the west coast of Australia for their Erase Me album cycle. Kenta 'Ken' Koie from Crossfaith also reflects on their UNIFY set back in January and gives us all an insight into their partying lifestyle while Pagan frontwoman Nikki Brumen takes a look back at their hectic year which has seen them flying to dominate UK audiences, gain massive popularity in Australia and what direction they'll be taking their next release (and if we'll hear some new material on this tour). Plus we play a stack of tracks from the above-mentioned bands and kick it all off with Thornhill's new song 'Nurture', which no doubt fans will hear when they play alongside Trophy Eyes, Make Them Suffer, Southeast Desert Metal, Void of Vision and Endless Heights in Brisbane. #WoSUATW #TheAmityAffliction #AmityAffliction #TAA #AhrenStringer #Misery #HeavenAndHellTour #SpencerChamberlain #Underoath #KentaKoie #Crossfaith #NikkiBrumen #Pagan #AustralianBands #Metal #Metalcore #BlackMetal #MelodicMetal #Thornhill #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU
After disappointing a legion of fans around the world by calling time on the band in 2013, Underoath surprised everyone - including themselves - when the decision to reunite for a run of anniversary shows for Define The Great Line in 2015 ultimately led to a unanimous decision to reignite the band's career."We played six nights a week with one day off and these shows were two hours long"! recalled vocalist Spencer Chamberlain. "I was singing for two hours per night for six days in a row every week, I was fucking dead! The one day we had off a week I was laying in bed thinking how am I gonna make it through this tour? I think during the first practice me and Aaron (Gillespie, drums) had talked about why aren't we just going for this? This is stupid. We should be making music. Halfway through that tour me and Aaron decided that we were going to write a record. Whether it be Underoath or not we weren't sure but me and him decided we were gonna make some music together and we had to wait for the other guys to figure it out. I think halfway through that tour we decided we would do a European run and then halfway through that, we did the Australian tour and decided everyone was on board to make a record. It did take time. It wasn't right away like 'hey, let's get the band back together and make a record and do this full time again. It was very step by step".In the full interview Spencer talks about Underoath's upcoming Australian tour with Amity Affliction, Crossfaith and Pagan, the fact they are actually supporting not headlining, the benefits of playing to another bands crowd, last years comeback album Erase Me, the break up of the band and how close it came to being permanent, the musical changes in the band between their 2010 album Disambiguation and Erase Me eight years later, a message for Aussie fans and more.
This week we dive into Quinn Christopherson's full 3-song set at the Tiny Desk. You'll recall last week that we listened to his submission to the Tiny Desk, a performance that won him the opportunity to perform what we'll experience today. And I've tagged that original performance of, "Erase Me," at the end and just after Quinn and Nick Carpenter close their exceptional Tiny Desk with the very same song. It's a beautiful, bittersweet, sparse but powerful and complex performance that I hope you'll decide to spend some time with me processing. Of course you should seek out Quinn and Nick and support them directly. That's why I do this thing. Love yinz! -G
The Cool Guys™ welcomed Chris Dudley to the show to chat about Underoath’s newest album Erase Me! They also talked about Chris’ fitness journey (of course a hot topic for in-house fitness guy, Jesse), how Underoath’s new album came to be, and their upcoming tour with two huge bands! Enjoy!
Aaron and Spencer of Underoath discuss their new-found passion for creating music and how the sound has evolved on the latest release 'Erase Me'.
Heidi and Rory are back, safe from Hurricane Lane and the Lahaina Fires! This week, they talk about Heidi's favorite book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, as well as the movie 42, and a mutually favorite album, Oh, What a Life by American Authors. Plus, the two go down memory lane a bit and talk baseball! Heidi's Recommendation of the Week: The album Erase Me by Underoath. Rory's Recommendation of the Week: The album Lovetap! by Smallpools. Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain and drummer-vocalist Aaron Gillespie were remarkably frank and open, discussing the Florida-based rock band's decision to regroup after a two-year hiatus, dropping its long held "Christian" label, getting over addictions and judgements, and crafting this year's excellent "Erase Me" -- their first LP since 2010. We're back this week with another big review with a long awaited follow-up to one of our favorite albums from 2015 and the sixth album from The Wonder Years, "Sister Cities". Their previous album 'No Closer To Heaven' had some of the best songs released in that year with some hard hitting and emotionally impactful lyrics. Does the band follow suite with this new release? Find out what we thought of it in this week's track-by-track review.Following last week's big round-table review of Erase Me by Underoath, we are privileged to get the chance to read some of your thoughts on this very divisive record. And a very special thank you and shout out to those of you who wrote in. Also on the show, we've got a couple brief mentions of new album announcements from The Word Alive and Bullet For My Valentine; Adam seems confused on some of the lyrical content from 'I Am Human' by Escape the Fate; and finally, we share our brief thoughts on 'Salvation' by The Penske File - the album that Dave recommended to us last week. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theskinnywithmikeandadam/support

It's not often you get a big named band member on the podcast who has actually listened in before, but that's exactly what happened when **Chris Dudley** of **Underoath** stopped by for a chat, yes he's a fan of **_Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall_**. The band are just about to put out their new album **_Erase Me_** which is the first album in 10 years that features all the original members, so of course there had to be a little conflict/head-butting in the recording studio which Chris is more than happy to talk about. He also tells us what he thought of the disapproval and negative feedback the band received after finally using the "F-Word" for the first time on their single '**On My Teeth**', what his doctor thinks of his violent headbanging and his thoughts on being part of the inspiration behind the name of our podcast series. Your host **Browny** also takes a look at **Jason Aalon Butler**'s new hardcore band **Pressure Cracks** and addresses the drama surrounding **Story of the Year** ahead of their Australian Tour. Plus there is plenty of New Music to catch up on from **Bullet For My Valentine**, **The Fever 333, Fifth Dawn, Three Days Grace** and **Burn** **The** **Priest** (aka **Lamb** **of** **God**), throwbacks from **The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red, Conquer Divide** and more... #WoSUATW #Underoath #ChrisDudley #EraseMe #OnMyTeeth #Hardcore #MelodicHardcore #Metalcore #TheFever333 #PressureCracks #JasonAalonButler #JasonButler #AugstBurnsRed #StoryOfTheYear #SOTY #ConquerDivide #FifthDawn #TheGetawayPlan #BurnThePriest #CodeOrange #LambOfGod #ThreeDaysGrace #TheWonderYears #POD #AustralianBands #WallOfSoundAU #Podcast #MusicPodcast
Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain is our guest. We discuss the band's new record Erase Me (out April 6th), the decision to make a new record after reuniting to tour, the reason the band decided to call it quits in 2013, the importance of the break-up in hindsight, his past struggles with addiction and the way he beat it, the most irritating thing about the current state of our country and much more. MetalSucks co-founder Vince Neilstein joins Petar, Brandon and Jozalyn to discuss the controversy surrounding Watain: the image that surfaced of their guitarist giving the Nazi salute, frontman Erik Danielsson's response and the people who defend the band. We also talk about the discovery of Inquisition vocalist Dagon's past child pornography charges and the pass that certain artists get despite their heinous past behavior, and we talk about the tragic passing of Caleb Scofield of Cave In and how fans of the band have stepped up to show his family that they aren't alone. Songs: Underoath - “Rapture” Failure - “Dark Speed” Cave In - “Luminance”

The band Underoath were brought up during a conversation two episodes ago, because of the use of certain words and religion in rock. We thought it was a good time to catch up with Spencer Chamberlin lead singer of Underoath. Works out even better, because their new song "Rapture" has hit and a new album called 'Erase Me' will be out in April. All topics are covered and nothing is left out during this very personal conversation with the lead singer of one of metal-core's biggest and most influential bands.
In the last Rock Sound podcast for a little while (don’t worry, we’ll be back in a few weeks with LOADS of exciting new stuff!), Underøath’s Aaron Gillespie and Spencer Chamberlain open up about religion, their return and their colossal new album ‘Erase Me’ in two gripping, emotional interviews. And after that? Blessthefall’s Beau Bokan talks new album ‘Hard Feelings’ their new label and SO much more in a super revealing interview.
