What was the original spark that made you all say, “Actually…this could work”?Colliding Tones: Hopeful vs. DirtyHow did you navigate blending the wholesomeness of Riverdale with the gritty world of Twilight City without undercutting either tone—or letting one overpower the other? The Role of SabrinaSabrina is the hinge point between both universes. How did you land on her as the “bridge,” and what made her magic the right kind of chaos to kick off the crossover?Playtime (Frankie Follis) vs. ArchiePlaytime and Archie are about as different as two protagonists can be. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's June, so that means it's time for our “Junesis” series! Where we cover movies based on/revolving around video games! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest K-Tron discuss the wildly chaotic and divisive 1993 video game adaptation, Super Mario Bros.!The first real video game movie! No Chris Pratt! Cute little bombs! Conspiracy-theorist Luigi! Brotherly love! Plentiful use of pyramid spikes! Full-sized bumper cars! Suspenseful ordering of the Koopa pizza special! Romantic WrestleMania plans! Nintendo and cigarette product placement! Questionable dinosaur-birthing methods! Scantily clad dancers in a kid's movie! Enough fungus to put The Last Of Us to shame! Incredibly dangerous city streets! Police issued flamethrowers! A fascinating soundtrack! A lovable cast that includes Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis, Mojo Nixon, and Dennis Hopper doing T-Rex arms! A sequel tease and post-credits scene years before Marvel made them common! A visually insane movie with impressive sets and costume designs, an Oscar-winning cinematographer, and great dinosaur/creature FX that slightly predate Jurassic Park! All that and more in this endearingly uneven, cyberpunk-influenced adaptation that would have an even bigger cult following if it weren't for the shame of the creatives involved! In addition, K-Tron shares her spoiler-free thoughts on the horror comedy Slotherhouse, while Alex does the same for Bring Her Back, the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, the Shark serial killer thriller Dangerous Animals, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (with some additional thoughts from Tim)! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! This February we're celebrating “Dreddruary,” where we cover movies based on the British comic book character, Judge Dredd! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss Sylvester Stallone's misguided 1995 schlockfest, Judge Dredd!Recycled food! Bedazzled codpieces! Distracting lifts! A cool, creepy cyborg! A shockingly sneaky, giant robot! Lethal holograms! Futuristic court drama! Stylish garbs of justice designed by Gianni Versace! A strong score by Predator's Alan Silvestri and cinematography by Aliens' Adrian Biddle! An original song from The Cure! A surprisingly faithful comic adaptation in every way except for the lead character! A visual treat with incredible production design, animatronics, and visual effects, including one of the greatest fictional mega cities in cinema! A solid cast that includes James Remar (briefly), Armand Assante, Max von Sydow, Diane Lane, Rob Schneider unfortunately, and Sylvester Stallone's ego derailing the movie! Dark themes of police corruption and eugenics in this silly movie that maybe works better as a disappointing sequel to Demolition Man, from a frustrated director who loved both the source material and apparently Blade Runner! In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on Captain America: Brave New World, Oz Perkins' new horror comedy, The Monkey, and the final nail in the Sonyverse coffin, Kraven the Hunter! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Interview: Matthew Rosenberg We're Taking Everyone Down with Us #1 out March 26 (FOC March 3) Artist Stefano LandiniColorist Roman TitovLetters Hassan Otsmane-ElhaouStory and ThemesWe're Taking Everyone Down With Us blends super-spies, mad scientists, and robots with themes of family and revenge. What drew you to this mix of genres and how did it shape the story's tone?Annalise's journey is centered around two big choices—revenge or normalcy. What inspired this core conflict, and how do you balance her emotional arc with the high-stakes action?Favorite James Bond? You've worked on grounded crime stories like 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank and more fantastical ones like What's the Furthest Place From Here?. How does We're Taking Everyone Down With Us build on or depart from those previous works?Family seems to be a recurring theme in much of your work. What's unique about the father-daughter relationship in this story?Characters and DevelopmentThe story leans into some wild concepts—super-spies, futuristic tech, and global domination. Were there any particular influences from spy fiction, sci-fi, or pop culture that helped shape these elements?Process and LegacyYou've mentioned this story turned out funnier and more heartfelt than you originally planned. Were there any moments during the writing process where you surprised yourself with how the story evolved? With your earlier work, like 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank, now being adapted into a film, how do you think your storytelling has changed or evolved over the years, and how does We're Taking Everyone Down With Us reflect that growth?Fun/Silly QuestionIf Annalise's robot bodyguards were to pick a theme song for their revenge mission, what song would they choose and why?DC vs. Vampires QuestionsSwitching gears to DC vs. Vampires World War V, we already spoke wayyyyy back in August about the series before it launched, but with the special DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1 and essentially half the maxiseries out, (#7 out Mar 12th, 2025), how are you digging the fan reaction? With "DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1" releasing this week, Are there themes or messages you're particularly excited to explore in this installment?Alfred is becoming more or less the “good” guy main character, Can you discuss the psychological and moral complexities you aimed to portray in Alfred as he navigates his new identity as a GL?If DC vs. Vampires was made in 2026 riffing off the Absolute Universe, how would it be different?Anything you could tease for the second half of this series?

As we turn the page onto season 2, looking back at the first 12 issues, is there anything you would tweak or do differently?Luigi, you've worked with Wyatt long enough to have plenty of banter about "bizarre demands." Can you describe a moment where Wyatt's vision challenged or inspired you to take the art in an unexpected direction? The series mixes playful moments with genuine horror. For both of you, what's your approach to balancing these tones, and are there horror or non-horror works that directly influenced this?I gotta ask, nudity in this title is a curious one. Sometimes we see things, sometimes genitals are covered up, what gives?!The series takes place across both mundane and fantastical locations—Estonia's cold landscapes and Las Vegas's vibrant excess are especially highlighted in Nights #13. What's the significance of setting in this arc, and how did you choose those locations? If Vince, Gray, Tsukumari, and the rest of the crew formed a rock band, what would their band name be, and what kind of music would they play?

Quick and effective world-building! Really cool helmets! A very dangerous atrium! A simple, contained story inspired by the action classic, The Raid! A surprisingly stripped-down comic book movie, especially when compared with modern examples! Absolutely brutal slow motion violence! Absurdly large buildings! Check out a smattering of the questions asked in this interview below. What sort of themes are you juggling in Seasons? What inspired you to weave these themes together, and how do they relate to the broader human experience? How did you approach building the world of Seasons, and what were some of the unique challenges in creating a story set across different landscapes and "seasons"?Your work often includes flawed and complex protagonists. What can readers expect from the characters in Seasons? You've collaborated with many artists over the years. What drew you to work with Paul Azaceta on this project, and how does his style complement the story?Something so endearing about the first issue is how it seems quite ordinary, yet subtle things like a guy with a jetpack reveal there's more to this world. How do you balance showing too much or showing just enough? If you two were thrown into the world of Seasons, which of you would last the longest, and what ridiculous strategy would you use to survive? So what's The Seasons about?Summer, Winter, Spring and Autumn are the Seasons Sisters, the daughters of the world-renowned Seasons Detectives. Ten years ago, their famous parents disappeared. Left to raise themselves, the sisters formed an unbreakable bond. Now that bond is tested as the sisters fall prey to sinister forces. The youngest sister, Spring, is the last hope of saving them from a fate worse than death. Will Spring be able to piece her shattered family back together before it's too late for them all?RICK REMENDER (BLACK SCIENCE) and PAUL AZACETA (OUTCAST) weave an elevated tale of whimsical horror unlike anything ever experienced in comics and it all starts with this double-length premiere issue!

Comics will mend your heart. That's the energy we're taking into the new year and the thought we carried as we assembled The Stampies, our end-of-the-year award show celebrating The Best Comics of 2024 - ahem - (Part One). Over the last six years, we've turned to comics to understand ourselves and the world around us better. They've guided us through tumultuous times, and we know we'll need them even more in the coming months and years. Our award show is very much OUR award show. We have peculiar tastes, and our favorite comics reflect that. Some categories stuck around from last year's ceremony, but with this episode in particular, you'll find several new ones, also. Next week's Part Two will be stacked with the more traditional Best Original Graphic Novel, Best Limited Series, Best Ongoing, etc. For The Best Comics of 2024 (Part One), we get a little more cutesy with Best New Superhero and Best Murder Mystery, plus categories like Best First Issue and Best Single Issue. As has become tradition, we've asked our friends in journalism and podcasting to name their favorite books of the year. New to our 2024 celebrations, however, we've also asked a few retailers and comic book creators to contribute their favorite books. If you want to be spoiled about who will be guest-starring in today's podcast, scroll below. Please thank them by following their work and social media handles (and letting them know how much you enjoyed their contributions to the podcast). 2024 was another banger of a year regarding comics. Highlighting our favorites was more challenging than ever. The Stampies contain sixteen categories, with a few extra surprise categories tossed in during next week's show. That's simply not enough space to name all "the best" books from the year. So, keep your eyes trained on the Comic Book Couples Counseling website. At the very end of the year, we'll unleash our massive 50 Best Comics of 2024 list. The Best Comics of 2023 (Part One) Category Timestamps: Best Comic Book Couple - 12:14 Best Murder Mystery - 18:18 Best New Superhero - 25:54 Best Adaptation - 32:29 Best Collaboration - 40:07 Best Short Story - 47:33 Best First Issue - 56:43 Best Single Issue - 1:05:05 The Best Comics of 2023 (Part One) Guest-Stars: Erik C.
