I sit down with yet another Jeff, but this one took things to a different level. Over the course of October and November, he completed 122 laps of the Manitou Incline, nearly a mile and over 2,000 feet of gain per lap, turning one of the most brutal stair climbs in the country into a month-long experiment in mental resilience. What started as training for a future unsupported FKT evolved into something much bigger. A Navy veteran with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, he shares how his nervous system adapted to years in combat and why returning to everyday civilian life felt overwhelming. Loud environments, crowds, and constant inputs became difficult, while long, repetitive movement in nature helped turn the volume back down.We talk about why hiking and rucking can work where therapy and medication do not for some veterans, how mundane suffering and repetition create space for processing trauma, and why unsupported FKTs and long efforts with weight may be a wide-open niche for athletes with military backgrounds. He explains how the incline project became a fundraiser and awareness campaign for Warrior Expeditions, a veteran-led nonprofit that helps veterans heal through long-distance hiking. This conversation dives into combat stress, family life, fatherhood, endurance, mental health, and the simple power of left foot, right foot. It is a powerful reminder that the outdoors offers different things to different people, and sometimes the hardest, most boring path is the one that helps us heal the most.Check out Warrier Expeditions: https://warriorexpeditions.org/Follow Jeff Snyder: https://www.instagram.com/jsnydersoloadventures/Chapters00:00 The Manitou Incline Challenge05:10 Mental Resilience Through Hiking07:41 The Impact of Combat on Mental Health10:07 Nature as a Healing Tool13:01 The Role of Community in Recovery15:36 Fundraising for Warrior Expeditions17:58 Accidental Discoveries in Nature20:35 Transitioning from Rucking to Hiking23:15 The Importance of Mindset in Outdoor Challenges25:23 Unexpected Changes in Combat Situations28:01 Daily Life and the Incline Challenge30:31 Supporting Veterans Through Outdoor ActivitiesSubscribe to Substack: http://freeoutside.substack.comSupport this content on patreon: HTTP://patreon.com/freeoutsideBuy my book "Free Outside" on Amazon: https://amzn.to/39LpoSFEmail me to buy a signed copy of my book, "Free Outside" at jeff@freeoutside.comWatch the movie about setting the record on the Colorado Trail: https://tubitv.com/movies/100019916/free-outsideWebsite: www.Freeoutside.comInstagram: thefreeoutsidefacebook: www.facebook.com/freeoutside
Send us a textA single bold ask can change a racing life. That's what happened when a six-year-old named Everett walked up to Food City's CEO and asked for a sponsorship—an audacious moment that launched a genuine grassroots journey, powered by family, faith, and a love for speed. We sit down with Amy Larson, proud “momager” and homeschool parent from Virginia, to unpack what it really takes to raise a young driver who competes with adults on dirt and keeps his head in the toughest moments.Amy pulls back the curtain on their playbook: choosing karting over other sports, prioritizing track time to keep skills sharp, and treating the whole effort like a college fund paid in hours, reps, and relationships. She shares how Everett built sponsor trust early, why clean conduct and strong social media matter as much as pace, and how mentors like Corey LaJoie stepped in with shoes, a simulator, and priceless guidance. We talk safety, the transition from pavement to dirt, and the quiet discipline behind long Saturdays, late features, and early Sunday mornings at church. You'll hear practical advice for new racing parents—start within your means, avoid debt chasing fancy gear, and teach your driver to own the process. We spotlight the community that makes grassroots racing special: friends in neighboring pits, pros who open doors, and fans who become family. Whether the future leads to NASCAR, rally, or more dirt, the Larsons' story proves that character, consistency, and connection can carry a young racer farther than any single win.If this resonated, tap follow, share it with a racing parent who needs a lift, and leave a quick review so more motorsports families can find us. Gorgeous humans! This week I'm having the MOST delicious chat with my mate Jana Kingsford — author of Big Dreams (with eight more books in the works!) and the creator of the Beliefetics Method.Jana's one of those humans who actually DID the thing most people dream about but never do. She was stuck in the morning school run traffic, feeling like she couldn't do another 15 years of this… and went home and asked her husband if they could sell the house, buy a caravan, homeschool the kids and travel Australia full-time.His response? "I'm keen."That was the beginning of four laps of Australia, homeschooling three kids on the road, live streaming from cafe corners and literal trees, and building a million-dollar business from a caravan that didn't even have a toilet or shower!!!We'll cover:✨ The exact moment Jana knew her life had to change (driving home from school drop-off, crying kid, morning traffic, the works)✨ The reality of selling everything in 3 months and hitting the road✨ Homeschooling truth bombs: from distance ed panic to shutting the laptop because we're literally here✨ Why both her daughters are now thriving at uni after years of unschooling✨ Her 13-year-old son who taught himself everything from hyperfixations (unschooling magic!)✨ The morning routine that made it possible✨ How that one belief shift took her from $1K to $11K months in 5 months (and that was over 10 years ago!)✨ Why manifesting "big dreams you can't buy" is completely different to manifesting parking spots ✨ The seven stages of manifesting and why advice that works in stage one will sabotage you in stage sevenThis ep is for you if:

GHiT 0740: Fire Laps Returns - Even Better and Much More It had been a wile since we spoke with David and Daniel from Fire Laps and we thought we had to catch up with how things were progressing. Apparently, it had been way too long and things have advanced and grown in so many ways it was tough to cover them all in one podcast. Their software has further developed and now can show you exactly what and where you can go faster on track, as well as comparing your performance with similarly capable cars. But wait, there's more. They have also now introduced Fire Link, a hardware device that automatically captures your data and uploads it to the Fire Laps system for analysis and sends you the briefing on what you could do to improve. It also allows for live observation in real time. We also cover some upcoming advancements and plans. Plus, they were kind enough to give our listeners a discount code below for $50 off the hardware and 3 free months off the subscription (subscription is included for the fist year with the hardware) Did we miss something? The early November state and local elections held in the United State are part of a broader global wave of resistance to rising inequality and predatory government. From Tanzania and Madagascar to Bangladesh and Nepal, popular uprisings have triggered sudden changes in governments—or threatened to do so. In the United States, this week's results reflect popular and voter response to deepening inequities and the widely unpopular policies of a Trump administration serving as a delivery system for long-desired hard-right initiatives backed by billionaires, think tanks, assorted neofascists and a deeply diseducated voting base mobilized and deployed through fear and manipulation of racial division and cultural grievance. In the aftermath of political shifts—large and small—people engaged in struggle, whether through elections, popular mobilization, or both, understandably take “victory laps,” in the wake of what appear to be watershed moments. These celebrations are often followed by policymaking disappointments, followed by renewed calls to stay committed to the longer fight, typically through deploying the same tactics that produced the incremental victories. NORRIS BEGINS NAILING THE FINAL NAILS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!...PIASTRI LOOSING INTEREST…MAX DRIVER OF THE DAY AND...FERNANDO READY FOR LAS VEGAS. THIS WEEK'S NASIR HAMEED CORNER, WE KEEP IT SIMPLE WITH SOME DUKE OF DIJON AND NASIR BANTER! It was a dominant performance from Lando Norris as he claimed his seventh victory of the year, following up on his victory in the sprint race with another 25 points on Sunday, extending his championship lead to 24 points over Oscar Piastri. Early race incidents would leave Oscar Piastri with a shock penalty and lead to the retirement of Charles Leclerc through no fault of his own. And in unexpected fashion, Max Verstappen would grab fans' attention following his conversion of a pit-lane start all the way to a P3 finish, grabbing a podium on a day many fans would expect his championship shot to slip away from him. None of the top ten were able to get past each other in the initial portion of Lap 1 except Liam Lawson on George Russell, with Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari having the weakest start of any on the grid, dropping four places into 17th. A loss of control from home favorite Gabriel Bortoleto in the Sauber occurred only halfway through the first lap, causing the 21-year-old to hit the barriers, bringing out a safety car and ending his race. The safety car was brought out for the third time in a row at the Brazilian Grand Prix, lasting for three laps and coming in on Lap 4. There was more chaos immediately, as Charles Leclerc, Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri went three abreast at Turn 1 after the Italian struggled to keep up with Lando Norris' pace following the restart. Piastri and Antonelli would collide, sending the Mercedes into Leclerc's Ferrari and causing the Monegasque racer to lose both a tire and incur suspension damage, ending his race prematurely. Unable to continue, Leclerc's Ferrari would pull over and bring out a Virtual Safety Car, with the McLarens of Norris and Piastri leading from the Mercedes of Antonelli and the Racing Bull of Isack Hadjar. Laps 14 and 17 would see ten-second penalties applied for both Yuki Tsunoda and Oscar Piastri, with Tsunoda's given for an incident with Lance Stroll and Piastri's for the aforementioned crash after the safety car restart. Verstappen, who had taken an early pit stop to change from hard tires to mediums, found himself up to seventh by Lap 19 thanks to Hadjar and Pierre Gasly entering the pit lane. Seventh turned into fifth by Lap 21, the Dutchman having gained 15 places in the first third of the race and looking impressive as he looked to restore his championship ambitions. LANDO: “It was an amazing race, and it's nice to win here in Brazil. It's an amazing track with amazing fans. This one was for one of my mentors, Gil, I hope he'd be very proud. “It was a great win, but to be honest, seeing how quick the competition was today, it's clear we've still got work to do. I'll go back, see the team, congratulate them and see what we can do better. Looking ahead, I'll keep focusing on myself, keep my head down, ignore the noise and keep pushing.” MAX: From pitlane to podium, this weekend has completely turned around for me, something that I didn't think was possible. The start of the race was very hectic and I picked up a puncture early on from a load of debris on the track which meant that I pretty much had to start the race again. The Team used the right strategy from start to finish which allowed me to get through all of the traffic very efficiently. I definitely had to send it a few times to get past the other cars but I love doing that and ended up having an unexpectedly fun race. Overall it showed that we had really good pace today and that the grip was much better than the last couple of days. The atmosphere at Interlagos was amazing and it really spurred me on. I am so proud of the Team and would like to thank them for all of the hard work that they put into making the changes post Quali last night. SAO PAULO, BRAZIL - NOVEMBER 09: Race winner Lando Norris of Great Britain and McLaren Second placed Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy and Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Third placed Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing and Mark Norris, Director of Commercial Trackside Operations at McLaren on the podium during the F1 Grand Prix of Brazil at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace on November 09, 2025 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. (Photo by Mark Thompson/Getty Images) We kept pushing and took multiple risks this weekend because we never want to settle for second and we didn't give up. To start in the pitlane and finish P3 on the podium only 10 seconds off P1 was incredible. Now all we can do is keep fighting hard over the final few races of the season and do the best that we possibly can whilst trying to find as much performance as we can extract from the car. A huge congratulations to Kimi as well, he drove amazingly well which will have given his confidence a huge boost which is great for any rookie!" Alex Albon: It was a good race for the fans today but unfortunately for us it was a bit of a race to forget. We had good pace when we could show it. We've struggled with pace all weekend but seem to have recovered a little bit today. In the end what took us out of contention for points was that I think we stayed out too long on the first stint and we never really recovered from there. In the last stint we were quick and were fighting our way back up the grid and just missed out on a point at the end. It's frustrating that our rivals scored points today, but we will regroup and look forward to a better weekend in Las Vegas. Carlos Sainz: Not the day I was hoping for. Once I got squeezed on turn 1, I had considerable damage to the car and my race was compromised from there. We managed to stay in the hunt for points most of the race but after a slow first stop and compiled with the damage, that was it unfortunately. Time to go back home and see what we can do in these types of circuits, as Qatar will also be a challenge. A few races to go, so we cannot relax. Let's keep going.

Troppi aiuti sociali agli stranieri penalizzano i ticinesi?

After giving his life to Christ during a Chicago revival meeting, he immediately immersed himself into evangelism and the study of Scripture, graduating with both a B.S. and M.A. in Pastoral Theology/Christian Education. Early in his ministry, Rich traveled with Evangelist Joe Boyd and preached in various churches and venues, including Chicago's Pacific Garden Mission. Upon college graduation and ordination, Rich and his wife, Valori, moved to Milwaukee, WI to church plant. After the church plant was successfully merged with another, Rich joined the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office to support his young family, while simultaneously serving as an Assistant Pastor. He is currently the pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church just south of Milwaukee and an in-demand speaker. Today we chat about the rampant lawlessness in our nation and how we got here politically and prophetically. We also look at the current peace initiative in Israel, and what are we to expect when there's a victory lap going on, but we all know that Israel's enemies haven't truly had a change of heart. We talk about AI, and its troubling encroachment into Europe. China we expect to be a police state, but why are other nations looking so similar? A full hour with a very sharp brother in Christ. In this episode, Chris and Cristina talk with Anamika Nanda, a PhD student in the Department of Biological Sciences and a Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Fellow at the University of Southern California. Anamika's research, conducted under the guidance of Dr. David Raichlen, examines how physical activity affects neurological health across various genotypes. Before beginning her doctoral work, Anamika earned her Bachelor's degree in Medical Anthropology and Global Health from the University of Washington. Her award-winning honors thesis examined the relationship between motivation, physical activity, and psychosocial stress, and its impact on telomere length in collegiate swimmers and non-collegiate athletes. We discuss her path into science, her interdisciplinary approach to understanding brain health, and how her work connects athletics, stress, and aging. Anamika's research has been recognized with an NSF-GRFP Honorable Mention, the UW Anthropology Department's Best Honors Thesis Award, and a Mary Gates Research Scholarship. Tune in for an insightful conversation on the biology of movement, the value of interdisciplinary research, and what it means to study sports from a holistic perspective. ------------------------------ Find the paper discussed in this episode: Nanda, A., Logan, A., & Tennyson, R. From rock bottom to 100 miles — today's guest redefines what it means to fight back.Meet Sean Rhodes: former alcoholic, now ultramarathoner, mental health advocate, and the driving force behind a mission that's bigger than any finish line.In May 2025, Sean didn't just run a 100-mile race — he built one. The Stoney 100 was raw, solo, and powered by purpose: raising awareness for mental health and backing recovery-focused nonprofits like Quest in Recovery and Charleston Hope. His stats are legit: he has run 37:00 in the 10k, 1:23 in the half marathon, 2:59 in the marathon, and 21:27 for 100 miles. But forget the numbers for a second. What really matters is the journey — the comeback, the community, the cause. This isn't just a running story. It's about resilience, redemption, and the grit to turn pain into purpose.Strap in. This one's got heart. In today's conversation, Sean takes me through his 100-mile pursuit, flipping his life around and his life transformation, the key to unlocking discipline, how to keep going when your mind is giving out, how to put on muscle while still being a runner, his future goals, and so much more.Tap into the Sean Rhodes Special.
