Have you heard of the “five-fold ministry”? Many Christians quote Ephesians 4:11 to claim that these five "offices" are active roles in the church today: prophets, apostles, evangelists, teachers and pastors. There's no controversy about the last three, but what about apostles and prophets? Is God still calling people to fill these two roles, just as He did in New Testament times? Rodgers Atwebembeire explains. For more on this topic, see also:https://www.apologeticsindex.org/f09.html

What do CGN leaders believe about the charismatic gifts mentioned in the Bible — specifically, the spiritual gifts of prophecy, healing, and speaking in tongues? Are these gifts still in operation? Are they available to Christians today? — And if so, how should they be used practically, in our churches? In this episode of the CGN Mission & Methods podcast, I sit down with Brian Brodersen and Kellen Criswell to discuss on of the theological streams that we belong to as a network, which is: Continuationism. We believe that all the spiritual gifts mentioned in the New Testament are available for believers today. In this episode, we discuss the difference between the terms “Continuationist” and “Charismatic,” and we talk about the biblical reasons why we hold this position, and share some stories as examples of what this can look like in practice. Make sure to listen for a clip from Pastor Chuck Smith, in which he talks about a key passage for this discussion, found in 1 Corinthians 13:8-10. New episodes are being released every two weeks! Make sure you subscribe to the podcast, so each episode will be delivered to your device as soon as they come out! We'd love to hear feedback from you on these episodes. Is There A Difference Between OT & NT Prophecy? There are two views of Prophecy held by Continuationist. The more popular of the two is the discontinuity view. The Discontinuity view states that the gift of prophecy has fundamentally shifted from the Old Testament to the New Testament. This view asserts that the OT Prophets prophesied Infallibly whereas the NT prophets prophesied with a possibility of partial or complete error. The other view held by the Continuationist Is the continuity view. This view asserts that prophecy is always fallible In both OT and NT. However, the writings of scripture Including prophecy Is infallible. Today we will be discussing these two positions see you all soon.Donate (Paypal)https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=GC2Z86XHHG4X6___________________________________________________________________________________Exclusive Content (Patreon)https://www.patreon.com/TheRemnantRadio__________________________________________________________________________________We're social! Rethinking Scripture Podcast - Episode 40: The Rethinking Babel Project - Part 3April 6, 2022 - Host: Dr. Gregory Hall Today we go further down the theological rabbit hole of Babel theology… we've arrived at the Gift of Tongues. There is maybe not a more divisive topic in the church today… and unfortunately I'll not going to be able to clear up all the confusion around the gift that was originally given to eliminate confusion. How ironic is that? That this particular gift would cause confusion.Referenced Resources:Grudem, W. A. (2004). Systematic theology: an introduction to biblical doctrine (p. 1070). Whether it’s reading Scripture, doing the housework, eating the right things, etc., I struggle with this daily, and my whole house is a disaster. Please, can you offer some advice on how to target this issue?2. 12:27 {Is Marriage Required after Kissing or Sex?} Some say that because my ex-boyfriend and I French kissed, we must marry. We broke up 2 years ago and he didn't answer when I asked to talk. I want to be free to marry someone else, but I'm scared to sin against God. Help. How can I know I am free?3. 16:34 {Why Isn’t the Greek OT More Authoritative?} Why isn’t the Greek Old Testament more authoritative? Its manuscripts are older and are referenced in the New Testament. E.g., Jesus mentions Greek version of Isaiah 61 with “blind” in Luke 4:18.4. 20:54 {Is it Unfair that Certain People Receive God’s Forgiveness?} People in my life push against "saved by faith alone" asking “How can people like Hitler accept Jesus right before death and then go and sit in Heaven next to Mother Teresa? Do you think it’s biblical?7. 34:33 {Is Contraception Sinful?} Why do people say there is no biblical basis against contraception when God kills Onan for it (Genesis 38:8-10)? And the punishment for that is not death according to Deuteronomy 25:7-10.8. 41:07 {About Parachurch Ministries / CRU} What do you think of parachurch organizations like Cru? They don't seem biblical to me because they assume the duties of a local church. Do you think when we get to Heaven, that we will be able to see the Father, as well as Jesus?11. 50:48 {Did Moses Write in Hebrew or Hieroglyphics?} I am curious about the theory that Moses wrote in Egyptian Hieroglyphics, not Hebrew. Arguing for an oral tradition, not a written text. I had never heard this before, and I'm a little baffled.12. 52:47 {Scriptural Support for Continuationism} Is there Scripture that supports being a Continuationist? Brett Gibson and Perry Garrett begin a new series in Season 4: Difficult Passages in the Bible. In this podcast, assisted by guest Alys Grissom, they discuss 1 Corinthians 11 and 14, and what role women had in the worship services of the early church. They also discuss how the gift of prophecy is generally understood from a Cessationist and Continuationist standpoint, and how this informs the role women can have in worship services today.
This sermon was preached by Derek Overstreet on August 15th, 2021.
Pastor Mollenkopf leads the saints into God's word to see that while some offices have clearly come to an end, God has not ceased working in the world. So what spiritual gifts are in play in the church today? Today's study takes an in depth look at healing.
Pastor Mollenkopf looks at what the Bible says regarding whether spiritual gifts continue for all time or did some of the gifts have a limited time. What can we know and what does it matter?
Powerful Truth The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit are for today!
By Christians hold to two main views on spiritual gifts (healing, prophecy, tongues, etc.). Cessationists believe such miracles have ceased with the death of Jesus’ original apostles while continuationists hold that these activities continued beyond the first century and will remain available until Christ returns. Five Reasons for Cessationism The gifts of the spirit are temporary until the Bible was Continue Reading
Are you a Trinitarian? Do you believe the Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead? What is your doctrine of the Spirit? How does the Spirit of God actively and practically operate in your life? Do you believe He has ceased in His involvement in your life? The two categories for this are cessationist and continuationist. I'm an ACBC Fellow and a continuationist. Message preached at Grace Family Church, Caymanas Estate, Jamaica, by Joel Bain on October 20, 2019.
In this episode I share a little bit of my testimony of my becoming a Continuationist. What is “the perfect” that Paul writes about in 1 Corinthians 13? Does 2 Corinthians 12:12 support Cessationism?
He’s been called “the shy member of the Trinity.” He’s often referred to as an “it.” Some have called him a “force.” But He’s none of these. He is God living in us and working through us!

Do why DID Peter have to write this? As you are about to hear in this PODCAST, why do we need to read and heed this? We’ve hit a milestone in our 1 Peter in HD series. This marks the halfway point. 2 1/2 chapters down; 2 1/2 chapters to go! Four times in 2 1/2 chapters, Peter makes this heartfelt plea. He does so for a very good reason. There is a play-on-words in 1 Peter 1:22. As you will hear in this PODCAST, an insightful play-on-words that we miss to our peril. Coming as it does from Peter’s pen, I can assure you that this play-on-words is most-intentional. Pregnant with meaning poignantly personal to Peter, and to us as well. This play-on-words is a bit of a pun—not humorous at all, but serious in the extreme—that goes straight to the heart of what it means to be committed-Christ-follower now, today, in our current Christian culture. As a part of our series on the Holy Spirit, Kenny interviews pastor and podcaster Greg Dutcher about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, specifically talking about the more "ecstatic" gifts of the Spirit, and their uses within contemporary charismatic churches. In this episode, Kenny and Greg dialogue about the modern ongoing "charismatic versus cessationist" debate. Despite his disagreement with charismatic Christians, Greg approaches them with incredible grace and respect. Greg makes his case for cessationism and points out the inconsistencies that he sees within modern charismatic theology, highlighting why he believes the cessationist position is the most accurate position. Scripture: Acts 1:1-9
Through the Holy Spirit, every Christian has been given a spiritual gift (or gifts) to serve each other and ultimately to point to Jesus. By filling every believer with the Holy Spirit, we are given the grace and power needed to fulfill what God has called us to – evangelizing the lost, encouraging believers, and spreading the gospel. This sermon entitled "We are Continuationist" explores what the Bible says about spiritual gifts and how we are to function in them for the health of Christ's...
