The Daily Wire has parted ways with Candace Owens, who has been openly feuding with founder Ben Shapiro since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. Savage speaks with Rabbi Michael Barclay about the high-profile exit and his EXPLOSIVE interview with Owens. Barclay discusses the backlash he's received and defends his feud with Owens. Then, the two discuss Barclay's unique relationship with the Mexican Native American tribe The Yaqui People. They explore the death traditions and the nature of resurrection. How death instructs us to live with passion and joy. Why we need to seek truth and avoid the vacuous pursuit of "clicks" and "likes" in the digital age. Learn more about your ad choices. Do the dead live again?
The Grateful Dead were one of the most successful live acts of the rock era. Performing over 2300 shows between 1965 and 1995, the Grateful Dead's reputation as a “live band” was—and continues to be—sustained by thousands of live concert recordings from every era of the group's long and colorful career. In Live Dead: The Grateful Dead, Live Recordings, and the Ideology of Liveness (Duke UP, 2023), musicologist John Brackett examines how live recordings—from the group's official releases to fan-produced tapes, bootlegs to “Betty Boards,” and Dick's Picks to From the Vault—have shaped the general history and popular mythology of the Grateful Dead for over fifty years. Drawing on a diverse array of materials and documents contained in the Grateful Dead Archive, Live Dead details how live recordings became meaningful among the band and their fans not only as sonic souvenirs of past musical performances but also as expressions of assorted ideals, including notions of “liveness,” authenticity, and the power of recorded sound. John Brackett is Instructor of Music at Vance-Granville Community College, the author of John Zorn: Tradition and Transgression and a coeditor of The Routledge Companion to Popular Music Analysis: Expanding Approaches. Daniel Moran earned his B.A. and M.A. in English from Rutgers University and his Ph.D. in History from Drew University. The author of Creating Flannery O'Connor: Her Critics, Her Publishers, Her Readers and articles on G. K. Chesterton and John Ford, he teaches research and writing at Rutgers and co-hosts the podcast Fifteen-Minute Film Fanatics, found here on the New Books Network and on X. The party makes their way to an imperial armory to prepare for an assault on the palace. The Reign of Emrys follows the adventures of a diverse band of heroes as they find their destinies intertwine with both one another and the fate of their nation. Welcome to the first homebrew campaign we've ever put on the podcast! Reign of Emrys ran through 2021 and was a fantastic dive into our homebrew world of Ylos. The audio wasn't intended for podcast, but we've cleaned it up as much as we can. None of us are audio engineers, but if you have any pointers we'd be happy to hear them. Quick note: at the start of this this campaign, Katrina had not yet begun her transition. In fact, that actually began it midway through this campaign, so many of you who know her today may not even recognize her old name, which is how it should be. She's given her expressed consent to share this and we have nothing appreciation, love, and respect for her. #dungeonsanddragons #dnd #5e #dorktales #fantasy #actualplay #liveplay #rpg #podcast #d20 #ttrpg #homebrew === Watch us LIVE on Twitch ► http://twitch.tv/dorktales Our Linktree ► https://linktr.ee/dorktales Join our Discord ► https://discord.gg/zVtE9Ab Follow our Twitter ► https://twitter.com/dork_tales/ Follow our Instagram ► https://instagram.com/dorktaleschannel/ Find us on Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/dorktaleschannel/ Listen to our Podcast ► https://dorktales.podbean.com Support the show on Patreon ► https://www.patreon.com/dorktales/ Buy the cast a coffee ► https://ko-fi.com/dorktales Buy official Dork Tales Merch ► https://teepublic.com/user/dorktales ► https://dorktalesstore.redbubble.com Character Art by hailiiz! Many people mistakenly equate obituaries with death notices, but, as we'll hear in this episode, obituaries are not tales of death; they are tales of life. They are the CliffsNotes of someone's identity and relevance. And as much as we know we shouldn't, we are drawn to them as mirrors, which we figuratively stand in front of and ask, “How does my life compare to this individual's?” My guest today is Richard Goldstein. Since joining the New York Times in 1980, Richard worked as an editor and an obituary writer, focusing on figures from the military and sports world.

Where were you when Roe was aborted? It's a question we'll be asking for a long time. Over the weekend, the US Supreme Court handed down its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The justices upheld the Mississippi law and overturned Roe v. Wade. The much-anticipated ruling now returns the abortion issue back to the state legislatures. In this episode, the Created Equal team is live in front of the Supreme Court, celebrating this ruling, along with many other prominent leaders in the Pro-Life movement. Among them, Jonathan Van Maren and Mark Lee Dickson took the time to speak with Mark about what led up to this decision, and what lies ahead. We also heard from Isaac Beuhler, a Created Equal staffer who shares his emotional response to hearing the news of the ruling. Now, the battle is far from over, but this is an amazing moment in history. Rejoice with us, and keep fighting for the lives of ALL! Please watch/listen, share and leave a five-star review of the podcast. The Mark Harrington Show is on Mark's Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts. The post Should We Pray for the Souls of the Dead? – LIVE Q&A for January 20, 2022 appeared first on Enduring Word.
Will Self, author of Umbrella, How the Dead Live, and a new memoir, Will, discusses his provocative argument that trauma—in literary, historical, and cultural criticism—is wildly overused and misapplied. Rather than it being a phenomenon that has persisted throughout human history, Self contends that it is a product of modernity; while past injustices and injurious experience (war, slavery, abuse) may seem to have produced trauma-like symptoms, we have no way of judging whether they resemble trauma as we now conceive of it. Harper's Magazine web editor Violet Lucca talks through the finer points of Self's thesis. McGruff the Crime Dog guests hosts in Episode 39 of the Book XCh... well OK, maybe not (and yes, we just dated ourselves - but those who know, know!). This time out, your humble hosts/book-hungry twins take a bite out of the vast buffet of books that explore crime, both real and imagined. We delve into classic mysteries, true crime reportage, historical novels with unexplained murders at their center, pulp detective fiction, harrowing accounts of real-life urban crime, and some of the most heinous and traumatic events in American history (think JFK, Watergate and 9/11). Together, Jude and John dare to delve into the criminal mind and discuss just what it is that makes reading about the dark side of humanity so unnervingly, but undeniably, compelling. (And don't miss a very special and FUN interview coming up in a few weeks, for Episode 40!!) Thanks for listening everyone.
