TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ VOLPE Volpe is a respected Argentinian techno artist with over a decade of experience behind the decks. His passion for Techno was sparked when he was just 15 years old and was able to experience the genre in its true form, through underground clubs and powerful sound systems. As a DJ, his early career was primarily with a focus on sub-genres such as Deep and Detroit, followed by experimentation in Dub, Tribal, and Hardgroove. He has always aimed to transmit a sense of harmony, energy, and emotion through his music, with a preference for danceable beats. Volpe's artistic roots are steeped in the rich traditions of Jazz, imbued with its complex chord structures and harmonization, mixed with the Funk driving grooves and feel of the swing, steeped in Dub Reggae textures full of echo, reverb, and phaser, and also deeply rooted in the rhythmic pulse of Afrobeat. He views himself as a synthesis of his musical influences and inspirations. As a long-time resident of Buenos Aires' underground electronic scene, he has established himself as a leading figure in the local techno community, regularly performing at the city's top clubs and parties. He has also gained recognition for his productions, which have been released on esteemed labels such as Frenzy, Sungate, Artaphine, Mitsubasa and UИCAGE. His talents have garnered the support of notable figures in the techno scene, including Ben Sims, Jeroen Search, DJ Bone, Rødhad, and many others. Volpe is now based in Berlin and continues his international gigs, while he is also preparing his new hardware live set and launching his own music label. Additionally, he continues to make appearances on leading podcasts and channels. As an artist, he believes it is imperative to have diverse life experiences in order to effectively communicate his message, and he carefully curates his selections for his listeners, as he believes that music has the power to heal. “In this episode, I have a very special guest, someone whom I met in Ibiza last year at the Orbit DJ Retreats and with whom I have developed a genuine friendship since then. Souljan is a DJ and Producer hailing from Belgium. His musical journey spans several decades; in the late 90s, he started the iconic Ionyouth Soundsystem – a central point for the Dub Reggae movement. Today, it is one of the biggest and longest-running sound systems in Belgium, and next year, they will celebrate 25 years of Ionyouth Soundsystem. Besides Ionyouth, he continued to develop as an artist, spanning not only years but also genres. The love for house music and, more specifically, the art of mixing has always been a part of him. Tunes For Thoughts is a compilation of tracks from Messian Dread's archives, produced by him between 2006 and 2008. It is the first time that they are all put together in a compilation, since they were originally released in the past as separate digital EPs with many alternative versions of each track. We have compiled for you the discomixes, which is the trademark of Messian Dread. In Reggae, when you like a tune, you listen to it a few minutes and after the vocal version you play the dub. But the discomix tradition is something that is not really seen or heard these last years. A discomix version is there to make you feel the experience, to feel and meditate. You'll listen to a full track in a discomix style and when you look back to Reggae tradition, you know what this is about. The term 'Discomix' is not very familiar. It comes from the 70's and 80's. We talk about a tune with lyrics, followed by a dub version. All in one long mix. A concept hardly followed anywhere nowadays, because of sentiments or whatever. Messian Dread has been pushing it to the limits and we as a label, we recognize him as a pioneer respecting this format and we forward it to you.
