This week's Island Influencer is Gyp Buggane, a passionate musician and dedicated small business owner. Growing up on the Isle of Man, music is deeply rooted in Gyp's family's history. Gyp's love for music was nurtured from a young age, from his father's rock and roll performances in the 1960s tourist era to his grandfather's involvement in the Rushen Silver Band.   He shares heartfelt stories of recording songs from the radio, participating in school band performances, and even building a basic recording studio with friends. Gyp's path led him to get into the world of work initially and then to Liverpool University, where he studied computer science and philosophy as a mature student.  He then returned to the Isle of Man and worked in IT. We discuss how he chose his musical path, other artists he worked with, and more. **** In the great pantheon of musicians transcending above mere “celebrity” status, the late MICHAEL HUTCHENCE towers over most. A consummate “rock star” if there ever was one, he embodied the spirit and smoldering swagger of rock ‘n' roll while possessing one of the most iconic voices in the contemporary music scene. So, it was with an earth-rattling shudder when tragically he passed away in 1997, leaving a mind-numbingly impressive legacy across the entertainment realm. What many didn't know, however, is that he left some of his brilliance behind in the form of unreleased music. Producer, musician, and personal friend DANNY SABER (Madonna, Rolling Stones, U2) has completed some of these musical pieces to continue and extend Hutchence's impact.  My guest this week is producer, musician and remixer Danny Saber. Danny's worked with musical legends like David Bowie, Sheryl Crow, Marilyn Manson, U2, The Rolling Stones, Public Enemy, Willie Nelson, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, and Madonna, among many others. He's also contributed to television commercials for McDonald's, Taco Bell and Coors, and soundtracks for films such as “Blade II,” and “Moulin Rouge!.” Most recently Danny's been busy working on some recently discovered songs by the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, as well as a documentary on the singer's life. During the interview we spoke about his early band days around Hollywood, getting into remixing, producing the Rolling Stones, why producing a film is way different from composing, hanging with football legend Jim Brown, and much more. Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a primarily Hispanic district of the city, he was heavily influenced by his Latin cultural rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the Latino community. It was later when he heard Jeff Mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined the enigmatic Underground Resistance in 1994. In 1999 'Jaguar' although not Rolando's first release on UR turned perceptions of Techno on their head, breaking into other genres of dance music and becoming an all time classic in the boxes of DJs such as Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Oakenfold, and Gilles Peterson. The track has a long legacy of reworking and lives on to this day many years later inspiring audiences from all genres. In November 2004, Rolando left both Underground Resistance and his Los Hermanos project behind.2014 saw Rolando launch his own label R3 ( Roland Rocha Records) and has more or less exclusively released his own music on his label since. Rolando now a Dj for more than thirty –five years continues to work internationally as a Dj , producer and Remixer with an eclectic clientele such as Marcel Dettman, Kraftwerk, D'Julz, Ben Sims, Skudge, A Sagittariun. She is another of those incredible talents to have entered Paul Weller's orbit - first as somebody whose music he has regularly recommended, and then as a remixer for one of his songs from On Sunset in 2020.Her creations are things of beauty - sung in Cornish and / or Welsh - hypnotic with gorgeous, enchanting melodies, a captivating blend of dreamy synth-pop and ethereal vocals that transport listeners to otherworldly realms. Reaching #13 on the Official Independent Albums Chart (UK), it was nominated for 'Best Sophomore Release' at the 2018 AIM Independent Music Awards and shortlisted for the 2018 Welsh Music Prize.Paul Weller featured it in his list in Uncut Magazine for the end of year round up.Her third album, TRESOR released in 2022, took things to another level again.It was also shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, making Gwenno the first Mercury Music Prize nominated artist not to sing in English!.It rightly earned it's place on album of the year lists everywhere - NME, Mojo, Uncut Magazine etc, including once again Paul Weller…who said “ I really loved Gwenno's album - this is her best so far. His latest album, Mario Mixtape, resulted from a challenge issued by his son: to create a Mario remix album within a matter of months (about 4 months). Mustin delivered, with the assistance and approval of his son, his daughter, and their "people," as he puts it. Mustin also co-founded The OneUps about 20 years ago, the 2nd longest-running video game music remix band in the world. He's got an album out called 20 of the favorite remixes he made for the band.
