The June Cliff for Nonprofit SWAG | Social Imprints

Social Imprints CEO Jeff Scheinbein warns of an impending June "cliff" for the promotional products industry as Chinese tariffs threaten to disrupt the $25 billion swag market. As a workforce development company where 85% of employees face employment barriers, Social Imprints exemplifies the American social enterprise success story now at risk from trade policies. Scheinbein explains that contrary to political narratives, manufacturing can't simply shift to the US overnight - the infrastructure doesn't exist and would take decades to develop, putting nonprofits and businesses alike in jeopardy when current inventory runs out. For nonprofits, who "live and die by the bag" at conferences, this disruption threatens a crucial donor engagement strategy. Scheinbein highlights why promotional products offer exceptional ROI: they create a sense of belonging and tribal identity while providing affordable advertising compared to traditional media campaigns. As he explains, outfitting 10,000 people with branded shirts costs just $7-9 per item - turning supporters into walking billboards for your cause at a fraction of what conventional advertising would cost. Beyond economic concerns, Scheinbein shares that successful promotional products like tote bags (with Trader Joe's boat totes being the single most popular promotional item in the US) and hats deliver the highest visibility, while eco-friendly and socially responsible items represent growing industry trends that align perfectly with nonprofit values.

Shannon Discusses Why Having A Balanced Root Chakra Is So Important to Our Early Imprints Around Safety & Stability

In this episode I'm going to re-introduce myself and my story incase you are just tuning in now and talk about why having a balanced root chakra is so important to our early imprints around safety, belonging and stabiltiy.   My story: Mom as 3 months pregnant with me and started to hemmorage...her uterus was tipped. We're pretty certain she miscarried my twin sister at that point, although that information came out many many years later!   She had to lay in bed for therest of her pregnancy and stand on herheadevery hour on the hour to tip it back in place, so htat she wouldn't miscarry me.   So me, the baby, felt trapped. My spirit didn;t think it was a great idea to stay, and knowing what I know now about losing a twin, I was also grieving, which later explained a lifetime of deep sadness and loss that "technicnally" didn't really make sense.   When I finally decided to come out, a nurse panciked and tried to hold me in not permitting me to be born!  So I swallowed a lot of gunk and was very ill the first six months of my life not being able to digest anything.  It also created chronic neck problems.   The worst part was that I was not put onto my mother, but instead whisked away all ten pounds of me, jaundiced and put in an incubator for three days.  So me, the baby, felt after being trapped, then I wasn't allowed out, and then I wasn't wanted because I wasn't held and separate from my mother. And she also chose not to breastfeed me, so again lost out on that essential bonding.   This unfolding of events manifested in my central nervous system being affected, the doctors were concerned to see how that would play out. I'm fine, and only my mother would notice the ever so slight tremor I get when I'm overdoing things. It also manifested with me not trusting authority, disliking small enclosed spaces, and always wanting to be first, never feeling I could ever get enough holding. Digestive issues, until they discovered goats milk, and always extreme sensitivity to cold.   And boy did I ever walk on eggshells around my mother.     I didn't find out about the being held in and being in an incubator part until I was 37.  I went to my first Transactional Analysis class and we had to write down what our mothers were feeling when they were pregnant with us.  I wrote down something like, "Trapped, frustrated and totally alone." I had other reasons for thinking those things but Mom happened to be visiting me in England at that point and I asked her what she felt and she said the exact thing I had written on my paper.  She explained her feelings at the time.  And then she told me the rest of my birth story and I cried in her arms until I had salt trails on my face.  It explained so much about our relationship.   It's essential to ask yourslf and your mother how your birth went?  How did your entry into this world shape your sense of security?  Do you feel supported by life, or are you always on guard?   I have a pdf of birth questions to ask your mother, father, grandparents, spirit!  You can have access to this on my website: shannonbtb.com or shannonoflaherty.com   After the break I'll talk about the root chakra which is all about our Foundations of Safety.   ***   Chakras are energy vortexes shaped like spinning funnels of bioenergetic activity in 7 key areas of our bodies. We also have many secondary or mini- chakras too. The term chakra originates in India but many different cultures work with this fascinating field where physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energies all come together.  Chakras don't just interact with each other, they also have the potential to connect us to the energetic interaction of our world and universe, connecting spirit and matter, mind and body.   Each chakra influences the organs associated with it, ligaments, muscles and veins and any other body part within it's field.  They also affect the endocrine system, which is a network of glands and organs that produce and release hormones into the bloodstream to control many of our bodily functions.   Chakras are also strongly connected to our moods, personality, belief systems, physical and psychological evolution and spiritual journey. Basically they are an intrinsic part of our overall health and wellbeing which is why we want them to be in balance and flowing properly.   Nowhere is the chakra journey more apparent than during pregnancy as new being manifests in the mother's body and is brought into the physical realm through the multidimensional initiation of childbirth.  Learning about the passage of the baby through pregnancy, birth and the first 6 months to 2 years of life and the significance for the baby's foundation and birth imprint is truly empowering knowledge.   Understanding our chakras as a map for rediscovering our inner landscape and re-energising the centres that our ancestral legacy, unconscious conditioning and life experiences have closed down, helps us understand and cultivate our own energy preventing illness and a multitude of possible issues.   Our root chakra is located at the base of our spine above the perineum, below the cervix and in front of the coccyx. Basically between our front and back privies.    It is our foundation of personal power, well being and our connection to the Pachamama (Mother Earth). And just like a tree with its beautiful roots connecting it, it lets us know that we are connected and safe to grow into our highest potential.   On a literal level its about our safety, security and primal needs for survival; ie: food, shelter, safety and security.  It helps us meet our daily demands of what we need to survive. If its in balance we'll stay self confident and out of fear.   Anatomically, it governs our bones, blood, our immune systems, the colon, rectum, vagina, lower pelvis, pelvic floor, base of spine, legs and feet. It's domain is also the hips, our vitality, stamina, strength and energy. It also governs the sexual and birthing instinct and has the power to open the vagina to receive the sperm, to release menstrual fluid and to birth babies.   Emotionally its about feeling protected, and having strong foundations about our groundedness, stability and trust, as well as our survival and security. Our emotions and physicality go together because if our energy is out of whack, it will affect our emotions.   Mentally its about our foundation, our contentedness and connection to the earth. It holds the space for us to connect to the tribe or family we were born into even if life's journey has pushed us in another direction.   With a balanced root chakra we'll stay out of worry and attract all that we desire with a quiet sense of strength and confidence about us.  We'll also be reassuring for others to be around because they'll feel that calmness and easy going -ness about us.    The beliefs about the root chakra grounds us to the earth, its about our abundance. It's also about our inability to let go, and all the lack, scarcity and abundance issues you may have, live here.   When its not working properly there's a lack of vitality. When we feel vulnerable about our survival or safety, victimised by society or within our family or clan, this chakra may need some stabilising. If a woman feels unsafe and frightened, or isn't grounded or feeling safe and secure, her labour may become slow and difficult or even stop altogether if cervical regression arises from stress.   We may have food and health issues, or feel spacey or un- grounded. We could also have problems with our bones and blood.   In Sanskrit the root chakra is called Muladhara which translates to "root of existence". It's made up of two words: mula, which means "root", and dhara, which means "flux".    The Root chakra is our foundation and beliefs related to the root are about: security, safety, anything around work, order, routine, whether you feel nurtured or if you nurture yourself, what your nutrition is like, fairness, organisation, honesty, flexibility, responsibility and health.   When you regain balance in your foundation in all of those qualities, your spirit will inspire all your own personal ways for maintaining that balance.   Some ways that root chakra issues could potentially manifest: Physically, our bones are the structure of our bodies.  They literally hold us up and without them we'd just be a big puddle of skin and organs.   Our ligaments, muscles and nervous system are all based on the bones because the bones are the core of all that we are! Bones can pertain to sacrifice and worthiness issues like not feeling supported, deserving or worthy and not trusting.   Our colons hold onto old issues like anger, resentment, fear, guilt, old abuse ad the ability to accept love.  So if you have any issues like irritable bowel, or any rectum issues like haemorrhoids (unless you're pregnant which is common in pregnancy).  It's all about eliminating old stuff.  All the old stuff that holds us back in life.   We may also feel frustrated because things we intellectually know, we still somehow cannot break out of our habitual patterns. Until now! Stick with me, you'll soon learn how to grasp your destiny by the reins.   Because the root chakra also governs our feet, hips, knees and spine which is all about moving forward, standing tall and feeling secure and safe to step out into the abyss of the unknown.   So if you are constantly making excuses, that chunks down to fear. If you have an inspired moment, a real “AHA” moment, what often happe

"The archetypal forces still speak through us."My beloved podcast family, welcome to another episode. My heart bursts open with love and excitement for the release of this gem of a conversation that went into the very depth of our existence and all the nuanced and subtle realms of the human experience. That is with my guest, Igor Kufayev. Igor is an artist, Advaita Tantra teacher and founder of the not-for-profit organisation Flowing Wakefulness. He has been serving as a conduit of transmission for awakening, towards the new era of heart-centred consciousness for over two decades. Born in Uzbekistan and classically trained in art from a young age, the one-time student of the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts enjoyed an international art career by his mid thirties living in London. After stumbling across his work on Instagram, I felt something drawing me into a conversation with this modern mystic and man of presence and integrity. There's something undeniably magnetic about Igor and I wanted to explore who lives behind the timeless wisdom of his sharings on social media and beyond. This is a deep one, folks. I gained entirely new perspectives on frequently discussed topics on the podcast such as surrender or masculinity. Igor has a very unique, eloquent and elegant way of observing and articulating his view on these topics and it has been nothing short of amazing and enriching to speak to him. I would love to hear what it does for you. Move well out there.

Emotional foundations and realignments are coming up for review as Mars retrogrades in Cancer from January 6 until February 23, 2025, traveling back to 17 degrees in your chart. Mars, the Warrior, is now tasked with getting to the heart of what needs to be emotionally processed, purged, and trusted within in order to clear out very old unconscious imprints. Mars was previously retrograde in Cancer in 1992-1993 and 2007-2008, triggering Inner Child memories and what has been residing in your emotional core from family, parents, siblings, home environments, and your first attachment style needs. Mars will be activating what you are ready to mature and how you are ready to grow, especially by cutting out (Mars) what is holding you back (Cancer) from trusting yourself more. Mars retrograde in Cancer receives support from Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn during this phase of the journey, yet has a touchy trigger spot with Chiron in Aries at 19 deg the beginning of February. In today's episode, and as we go to close the year, I wanted to continue our journey through the Akashic Realm and talk about releasing old energy.. emotions.. energy imprints as I call them. As the year draws to a close, we often reflect on our New Year's resolutions—the things we wish to release to make way for new possibilities. How frequently do we find ourselves returning to the same point, letting go of the same things time and again, year after year? While we may successfully release some aspects, the more significant obstacles seem to linger. We refer to these as Energy Imprints—old patterns that continue to repeat and become entrenched in our energy field.imprints from our Soul. Though we may not always be aware of their presence, we often notice ourselves reliving these patterns. We don't intend to, but we get triggered, and these triggers typically lead us back to what we perceive as safe—our familiar patterns of seeking comfort. It creates a cycle. This week on The Empowered Spirit Show, as we wrap up the year, I discuss how we become ensnared in these patterns. Often, they stem from past lifetimes, and I will share insights on how we can break free to move forward. Additionally, I offer an Akashic Realm Meditation designed to help you uncover the imprints you may be holding. Getting to the root of these imprints is essential to breaking the old patterns so that you can create new pathways. It's time to break free so you can awaken to a new year and a new version of yourself. As I close out the year, I express my heartfelt gratitude to you—for listening, for reading my blogs and emails, and for expanding your awareness and consciousness. There is so much more to life than what the eye can see. Thank you again for listening... for reading my emails and blog posts.  I am so grateful! It seems obvious, but rarely discussed, is the relationship between how our parents conceive us and how this can significantly influence our sexual energy and development. This topic is important, as it highlights the deep-rooted connections between our childhood experiences and adult intimacy. And yet, I suspect for most of us, considering our parent's role in how we approach our sexuality is yet another one of those topics that may bring up shame or resentment or a myriad of emotions, which help to suppress feelings of sexual desire or longing. The Influence of Parents on Sexual EnergyIt's fascinating to consider how shame and guilt from parents can disrupt a child's natural arousal and sexual development. These early impressions can create patterns that affect relationships later in life. Certain life stages are critical for developing a healthy understanding of sexuality, and disruptions during these times can have lasting effects.Communication in RelationshipsOne of the pressing issues we discussed is the lack of communication about sexual needs within relationships. Partners often carry imprints from childhood, yet they may not fully understand how these affect their intimacy. As we noted, “The partner does not know what your imprints are,” emphasizing the need for open dialogue about desires and experiences.Physiological Changes and Body AwarenessPhysiological changes that occur in both women and men can also alter sexual experiences. Understanding these changes is essential for fostering intimacy. Body awareness plays a crucial role in sexual health; grounding therapy, for instance, helps individuals connect their energy flow with their sexuality. “Grounding is down to earth sexuality,” we agreed, highlighting its importance in enhancing intimate connections.Sex Advice for Seniors is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Navigating Survival BehaviorsWe touched on how survival behaviors from childhood can hinder adult relationships. These ingrained patterns can manifest as barriers to intimacy, making it essential to recognize and address them. “When women close their vagina, men close their heart,” we noted, illustrating how emotional and physical barriers are intertwined.Releasing Stress for Improved IntimacyLastly, we discussed how releasing stress through body awareness can significantly improve intimacy. By cultivating a greater understanding of our bodies and recognizing the impact of childhood experiences, we can pave the way for healthier, more fulfilling relationships.https://www.rodeparel.nl/https://www.facebook.com/maya.kerstan.3 Get full access to Sex Advice for Seniors at www.sexadviceforseniors.com/subscribe

And so here we are. It's time to open up the last few chapters of the Changeling 20th Anniversary Player's Guide, thereby ending our readthroughs of the game's canon. Feels weird, to be honest. When we started the show, it felt like we'd be going through the library of official texts forever, and now that there are no more, there's a bittersweetness much like when the game was canceled (and then canceled again). We don't know whether it will reincarnate in the future, as the fae are wont to do, but if there's one thing the last three years have taught us, it's that the community is as vibrant and inventive as it ever was. So while we're discussing Síocháin and Imprints and Lycians and swan maidens on this episode, our thoughts are already reaching forward to see what new dreams are on the horizon. Today on the Natural Birth Podcast is a solo episode with Anna talking about Birth Imprints. What they are and how we, through awareness and knowledge can heal and rewrite our imprint if it doesn't serve us and our babies. It also gives us understanding to why we are the way we are and why our babies and children might behave the way they do. Imprints are created in the womb, during our birth and in the early years of childhood as your nervous system develops. And there is a possibility of rewriting these imprints in the early childhood years if one is aware of them as well as into adulthood through awareness, however we are more malleable in early childhood. Between the ages 0-2 our blue print is created. We are sponges taking in all the information about life. What is it safe to do be or express and what is not, is the world a scary place or not, are we wanted, loved, are our basic needs met and so on and so forth.  From 2-7 this blue print is refined and set. How we are supposed to be to be accepted by the tribe, how we are supposed to handle emotions and how we react in all kinds of situations, circumstances and with people and relationships etc.  Our birth imprints often override our conscious mind and not until we shine a light on it do we realize the impact they have on us and how we live, think, act and make choices in life.   The experience of birth is a crucial part of our lives that we often overlook. Our first moments in the world can have a profound impact on our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. These imprints can influence a range of behaviors and attitudes, from our relationships with others to our ability to cope with stress. Understanding and healing these imprints is important for anyone who wants to live a more conscious and fulfilling life and be the best parent you can be for your children.   Anna will be holding a Birth Imprint Workshop later on this year. Dogs Are Smarter Than People: Writing Life, Marriage and Motivation

Algonquin Young Readers Will End in September The traditional book publishing world is a bit like the wild west if the cowboys wore pink-framed eyeglasses and could quote Derrida. People are heroes. People are let go. Entire divisions of publishing houses close. And so on. And this continues this week with the changes at Hachette Book Group and its announcement of the closure of Workman: Algonquin Young Readers this September. According to Editorial Director Cheryl Klein, “Our backlist and all books under contract will be absorbed into the Little, Brown Books for Young Readers list.” But her team Adah Li, Sarah Alpert, and Shaelyn McDaniel will be gone. Klein stays as editorial director for the Workman Kids Trade list. Last week, the New York Times' Alexandra Alter wrote, “Last month, Hachette Book Group laid off seven employees at its Little, Brown imprint, as part of a corporate restructuring. It has since hired three new editors to fill positions at Little, Brown. These changes followed a reshuffling at the top. Little, Brown's former editor in chief, Judy Clain, left to run an imprint at Simon & Schuster in January, and in March, Sally Kim, who previously worked as the publisher of Putnam, a Penguin Random House imprint, was appointed as the president and publisher of Little, Brown, becoming the first woman of color to lead the imprint.” An imprint like Algonquin Young Readers is the way a publisher groups and markets books within the larger umbrella (in this case Workman, which is within the Hachette publishing group). When an imprint like AYR ends, the authors feel stranded—editor-less—and that can be pretty scary. Last summer, Penguin Random House (PRH) said it was merging Razorbill into Putnam Children's; HarperCollins closed Inkyard formerly known as Harlequin Teen. It's usually about sales. Traditional publishers rely on sales to pay employees, pay for the books produced, pay the authors, and if the sales are not big enough? Things change. Sometimes it's about personnel. Sometimes it's about vision. While it absolutely stinks for the people who lose their jobs or the authors who lose their inprint and people, it doesn't necessarily mean that the sky is falling for an entire industry. It means things are shifting around. DOG TIP FOR LIFE Sometimes where you end up is better than where you started.- Mr. Murphy RANDOM THOUGHT LINK That Bored Panda article is here. SHOUT OUT! We want to look at our body language, tone, and what happens to our communication after it leaves the tip of our tongue. How does what we say to one another and ourselves "self-talk", impact our cells, and our DNA? When you speak you are actually IMPRINTING a message or thought form on yourself or others. Ironically, you can do this with out speaking too because our thoughts become things. Lets take the deep dive and understand how we all impact the world around us and choose differently so we can raise the consciousness and the vibration of the planet, starting with ourselves. This week, Matt and Braden answer a question about healing from the imprints of your childhood. You Are Not AloneEveryone has the influence of their childhood. It can be difficult to break away from certain imprints that happened to you. You need to have compassion for yourself as there are good things that came from your childhood. For the things that we want to change or imprints we want to grow out of, we need to realize that we are made to mimic our parents and need to have grace with ourselves when there are things we want to change. God works in our layers of brokennessThere are good things that our parents or family of origin passed on to us. However, there is still brokenness and things that we may need to come to terms with. We have to take ownership of our actions now. We can carry on those good, healthy cycles that we grew up with, but we have the power to break those negative cycles and replace them with good in our own families. There are different experiences that can counter the imprints of our childhood. Joseph in the bible could've just believed his father and brothers when they didn't think his dream would come true. He could've continued on with a sense of entitlement. But he spent years in jail and where his father doubted him, someone else said “I believe in you. You can lead a whole country.” Throughout his story, God was with him. Because of how close he was with God, the imprinting of his childhood didn't affect God's ability to change and shape him.Ask a questionHave a question you'd like answered live on an episode? History is filled with women who've made enormous contributions to science. Alice Augusta Ball, a chemist, found a cure for leprosy. The first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry, Marie Maynard Daly, discovered a connection between heart health and cholesterol back in 1955. Recently, viral immunologist Kizzmekia S. Corbett led a medical research team to develop the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The impact women have made on science is life changing, but women are still underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workforce. Listen back to a conversation MPR News host Angela Davis had with two Minnesota scientists, Bridgette Shannon and Jayshree Seth. They talked about what it's like to be a woman in the science field — overcoming barriers and finding success in their research and individual careers.  Both Shannon and Seth are scientists at 3M, a multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Minnesota. But outside their daily tasks, they both work to help motivate the next generation of scientists.  Shannon is the president of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers and works to diverse the STEM workforce through K-12 education. Seth is the author of two books, “The Heart of Science – Engineering Footprints, Fingerprints, & Imprints,” and “The Heart of Science: Engineering Fine Print.” Both books are published by the Society of Women Engineers, and sales benefit a scholarship for underrepresented minority women in STEM. Seth was also a speaker for Tedx Talks at St. Olaf College, where she spoke about her journey to becoming an advocate for diversity in STEM fields. Guests:  Bridgette Shannon is a chemist and a business development manager in 3M's Transportation and Electronics Business Group. She was the first African American woman to complete and earn a Ph.D. from the department of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Arkansas. Bridgette is the president of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.  Jayshree Seth is a corporate scientist at 3M and the company's first chief science advocate. She joined 3M in 1993 and holds 80 patents for a variety of innovations. In 2020 she was awarded the highest Achievement Award by the Society of Women Engineers. She is the fourth woman — and first woman engineer — to be inducted into the Carlton Society – 3M's science and innovation “hall of fame.” Jayshree serves on the Board of the Science Museum of Minnesota. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Clarkson University.    Subscribe to the MPR News with Angela Davis podcast on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify or RSS.  Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation.

Every year around the day known as Independence Day in America, I like to tap into the energy of freedom and liberation to bring forth the wisdom, practices and inspiration for all of us ... so we can use the freedom mojo to break free from what might be holding us back, and liberate us to imagine and design the path and possibility forward.  This is a co-creative practice - a practice I engage in to co create the now and the next. I come back to this liberation and freedom energy every year at this time because if we are evolving, stretching and expanding we can expect resistance and struggle, but we don't want it to stop us. One way we exterminate the interference is by expanding so much into the possibility, it just cannot take the light!  This year I was really feeling we could all use a boost of heart power to clear out the interference and break our consciousness & creativity free, so we can feel the possibility as reality, so much so that it gives us momentum to fuel and focus us forward.   Consider this: The consciousness that got you here, cannot take you to what you are thirsting for, what's calling you, what you want to feel and experience next. But if you are feeling it within you, it is real. So we expand to elevate.  Here's the 3 parts we'll explore and bring into your life now in practical ways to  Interference -  The unconcious stuff that keep us stuck in patterns and realities that we no longer desire or no longer serve. Imprints like the solo-solitude or scarcity trap. Internal inteference like constraints and conflict that bind us up vs open us up. When you see the interfernce, you can move beyond it, otherwise you just get "goobered" up and stuck in it (very technical term lol). Imagine - What you are seeking is also seeking you. When you name it and speak it, from a deep place of self worth and empowerment it's like you are painting that reality through your radiance and passion into the world. I'll teach you a practice that invokes the power of Invitation & Radiant Magnetism. Design - It's not a magical manifestation trick, it's a co-creative path and practice we engage in actively to bring this into being. From the power of invitation to exploration to experimentation, it takes courage and clarity and conscious creation and creativity. But that is part of the gift ... the question is will we dance with the Universe or try to control it and therefeor kill it? Join me for episode #216: Invoke Your Power To Expand Your Possibility & Reality - a liberation and invitation boost from the heart.  See you there! Christine P.S.
