In this episode, we begin our Advent journey in Eden, a place of freedom, communion, and life without shame. Eden is not only a moment in history, but also an interior garden within each of our hearts. We talk about the deep ache we all feel for union, rest, and peace, and how this longing reveals our original design for communion with God. We also reflect on the shame that often accompanies this desire for communion with others, especially when our desires are left unmet, and how bringing these places of poverty to Jesus opens us up to real, lived communion with Him. Heather's One Thing - The Renew Conference in Toronto Heather's Other One Thing - Her Advent Worship Playlist Sister Miriam's One Thing - Sacred Anchor Artisans (Catholic Etsy!) founded by Tim and Molly Olsen Michelle's One Thing - The Inspired Living and this Chrism Candle Michelle's Other One Thing - Fr. Innocent Montgomery, CFR Welcome, dear friends… to this Advent journey, a pilgrimage of the heart, through four sacred spaces where heaven once touched the earth. These are the places of Advent. Eden. Loreto. Elizabeth's home. And a stable under starlight. Each one holds a mystery… a whisper of God's coming, a rhythm of waiting, a quiet invitation to abide. We begin… in Eden — the garden of beginnings and original designs, Here, everything was whole once, every breath in attunement with God's own. But even in the ache of what was lost, something sacred remains, a longing, a promise, a memory of shalom harmony still written in our bones. Eden reminds us: our waiting is not empty. It is the remembering of love that has never stopped pursuing us. Journal Questions: What are the unique gifts that God has placed inside of you? When do I experience shame in the ache for communion? When have I recently experienced a rupture from Eden? Who in your life allows you to feel at home and at ease? How can I return to Eden through a daily practice? Discussion Questions: How have you experienced yourself as a gift? When have you experienced an ache for Eden in your life? When do you feel exiled from Eden? What glimpses of Eden have you seen in your life recently? Quote to Ponder: "We all long for Eden, and we are constantly glimpsing it: our whole nature at its best and least corrupted, its gentlest and most human, is still soaked with the sense of exile." (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien) Scripture for Lectio: "Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame." In Part 1, we presented the ‘mechanics' of the Fall; in Part 2, we looked at the ‘effects' of the Fall. This week we will consider how, in the midst of God's judgments upon the serpent, the woman, and the man, He predicted the coming of a Savior!

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. The first man stood in a federal position; and the fact that he acted in a representative capacity is seen by the fact that all his children share his nature and perpetuate his transgression.”Arthur W. Doctor Who Nightmare Of Eden Part 2
The TARDIS arrives near an unstable area on the interstellar cruise ship Empress, which has emerged from hyperspace at the same co-ordinates as the trade ship Hecate, locking the two ships together. The Doctor offers his services to detach the two craft. Rigg, captain of the Empress, is suspicious of the Doctor, but agrees to let him try and separate the two craft. Also aboard the Empress are a zoologist named Tryst and his assistant Della, with their CET (Continual Event Transmuter) Machine. The CET stores portions of planets on electromagnetic crystals and displays them as projections. Their most recent stop was on the planet Eden, where one of their expedition was killed, but both Tryst and Della are reluctant to provide too many details. The Doctor discovers the crew are being menaced by clawed monsters called Mandrels, who in turn have a mysterious connection to a drug known as Vraxoin. The Doctor incinerates one of the Mandrels, which disintegrates into raw Vraxoin, revealing that the beasts' bodies are the source of the drug. It is revealed that the Mandrels were brought to the ship from Eden. The Mandrels, on display at the Doctor Who Experience. With the help of The Doctor's companions, the ships are finally parted. In the process, the Doctor gets caught aboard the Hecate, where he finds evidence that its captain, Capt. Dymond, is complicit in the drug running project. Tryst is his accomplice on board the Empress and they are planning to use a laser to transport the Eden projection between the two crafts. The Doctor rounds up the Mandrels using K9's dog whistle, having worked out they are pacified by ultrasonics. He leads them back into the projection and then slips out, leaving the creatures trapped. His next task is to reverse the CET transfer process to stop the smugglers getting away with the Vraxoin supply. After allowing Tryst and Dymond to transport the Eden projection to the Hecate, he activates the CET and traps them within a new projection – they are ready for the Customs Officers to walk in and arrest them. With the ships separated and the drug runners caught, the Doctor and friends slip away back to the TARDIS with the Eden project.

Receiving the Father’s Heart – Returning to Eden Part 2
Part One of our interview with Missionary David Edens. David served for over 40 years in Niger. BIMI missionaries have served in Niger since 1971. This has been one of our most difficult fields, and staunch Moslems that live nomadic lives populate the desert region where our missionaries work. Conversions have been few and far between, but God is beginning to move in an exciting way in this desert country. Bible translation work has been done for years into the Tamajaq language and now it is being broadcast by radio to a possible listening audience of 2 million people. This weekly broadcast is also heard in Nigeria, Libya, Algeria, and Mali, which have extensive Tamajaq-speaking populations. Many encouraging reports are coming in as a result of these Bible broadcasts and the Bible translation work continues, along with the preaching and teaching of the Word of God in Agadez and surrounding villages. Laborers are desperately needed in this field because it appears God is on the verge of doing something great in this staunch Moslem area. Could it be that God would have you volunteer to reach the Muslim people of Niger?
Last week, we looked at the incredible idea that the God of the universe makes covenants with us. This week, in our last look at this incredible chapter for now, we are going to look at what it is to make a covenant with each other, specifically in marriage. There are many examples of covenants that we see made in the Bible. We see covenants made between two men for example in Genesis 31:44 between Jacob and Laban, and famously between David and his friend Jonathan (1 Samuel 20:16). Covenants have been made between nations, for example, in Joshua 9:15, when Joshua makes a covenant with people from another country. But there is a special kind of covenant that is unlike the other ones that we have seen in these examples: Marriage. Marriage is a special kind of covenant, a promise of devotion, that points to something more than just a promise between two people. Ultimately, marriage is going to point us towards the relationship between Christ and His Church, a relationship that is the reason for everything existing in the first place. The Bible begins and ends with a marriage, some of the greatest joys and comforts can be found within marriage, which then shows why Satan is so bent on destroying or redefining marriage. When we hear something like that in Church, we tend to think then of the national state of marriage. We think that I am going to be preaching against the LGBT movement or national divorce rates. Certainly that is something that we will talk about today because the Bible addresses those things directly in our passage, but I don't want us to miss the trees for the forest. Yes, we want to say something about these obvious assaults, but we can become so focused on national sins that we forget that there are personal sins in our individual marriages that need addressing. Single people don't get to sit this one out either. Believe it or not, the problems we have in marriage don't come from marriage. They are simply revealed in marriage. Selfishness, anger, greed, laziness, critical spirits, and lust are all just as available in the single life as they are in the married life. A lot of times, those sins are developed and more deeply entrenched during those single years, and how well you repent of those things now will give you a good indication of how you will repent of those things in marriage. The Christian life doesn't start when you say “I do” to a fiance, it starts when you put your faith in Christ. So today, we are going to cover that and more as we dive into our last look at Genesis 2, looking (finally) at point number 3: God convenes marriage.
Titles and names are funny things. Even without recognizing a voice, I can tell who is talking to me based on what title or name they use to get my attention. If someone behind me says, “Sir,” I know that they likely don't know me, but they are trying to be respectful in getting my attention. Someone who says, “Pastor Jessup” probably knows of me, but again is trying to be respectful. Someone saying Pastor Mark is probably a member of my church, because that is what you all call me. People who say, “Mark” likely knew me before I was a pastor and as such likely know me very well. The title that people use for me doesn't really define me, per se, but it rather defines the relationship that I have with the person giving me the name. Now, I don't find my title all that important. If you want to call me either “Mark” or “Pastor Mark” or whatever, that's fine, but let's imagine for a moment that you said, “Hey, Mark Buddy, how are you?” and I was to turn to you and say, “That's Pastor Jessup, to you!” What have I done? I have redefined our relationship, haven't I? I'm saying, “You and I only know each other professionally; you don't get to use my first name. We aren't that close.” Names and titles define a relationship. The Queen of England was “Your Majesty” to everyone, but to her family, she was “Lilibet.” No one amongst her subjects would dare call her anything but “your majesty.” No one would presume to use the name her family used. Now, as we get into chapter 2, we are going to see another name shift happening, and it is a profound name change that should stir our hearts this morning. In Genesis chapter 1, we see God referred to with the general term for God, “Elohim.” Elohim spoke this, Elohim made that. Here, in chapter 2, we see a new title in verse 4: Lord God. This is one of those “blink and you miss it” kind of things, but this is so crucial for us to understand. The word “God” is still Elohim, but the word we translate as “Lord” is Yahweh, which is God's name. How do you get to know God's name? How do you get to be on first-name basis with the Almighty? Today, we are going to cover just that.
Adultery and the Story of Eden Part 3 Our 2 Primordial Sins-Rabbi Zvi Aviner
TJ and Kris return to conclude their study on the location of the Biblical Garden of Eden. And yes, that means more Guns ‘n' Roses and Terminator 2 jokes. In the Q&A, TJ talks about why the "supernatural view" of Genesis 6 was the majority view of ancient people. Also, take a deeper dive into the Biblical rationale for using the “mouth opening” ritual to describe how God imparts the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.
TJ and Kris explore the ancient world in search of the mysterious location of the Garden of Eden. Then they answer questions about Gilgamesh, and the ambiguous term translated as "abide" or "contend" in Genesis 6:3.
As fascinating as it is to examine the book of Revelation with its vivid imagery and descriptions of events that are yet to happen, we can't really begin to understand the scale and scope of what it reveals. In today's message, Pastor Ken will wrap up his study of the first five verses of chapter 22, offering us a glimpse of what the new Heaven and new Earth will be like. It will be wonderful, with unfathomable beauty, cloaked in peace and not a hint of sin or death anywhere.
God blessed mankind with the privilege and responsibility to “rule over the earth and subdue it.” That goes all the way back to the beginning. Many have twisted this calling to an extreme, either recklessly abusing the earth or on the other end of the spectrum, worshipping it as a god itself. In today's message, Pastor Ken will draw our attention to a beautiful restoration of our role as healthy keepers of the new earth. This new earth will also be restored as the dwelling place of our Heavenly Father.
We need relationships. There is a benefit to spending time in solitude and isolation from others, but it's destructive when it becomes a way of life. Even Adam, the first human created by God – without sin or imperfection – still needed a companion. There are those who avoid Church and relationships with other believers, claiming they have a relationship with Jesus, but as Pastor Ken will point out in today's message, that relationship with God can't be healthy without relationships with others.

This Sunday, we kick off the next section in our series in Genesis - chapters 4-11. Now that we've looked at all the layers of Genesis 1-3, it is time to see how the story plays out East of Eden, in exile. Unfortunately, the curses of Genesis 3 begin to weave into the story of Adam and Eve and their descendants. Genesis 4:1-16 is the story of sin's first actions, involving distrust in God, envy, lies, and even murder. The ugliness of sin is on full display and yet...yet...grace is still at work and will have the final word, even in the story of Cain and Abel.
