It's the end for Clara. Or is it? Jimmy Akin, Dom Bettinelli, and Fr. Cory Sticha discuss this 12th Doctor story of betrayal, substitutionary sacrifice, the insularity of small communites, and the tensions of justice and mercy. All overshadowed by a writer fakeout.

Companions come and companions go, but very few companions die. At least, death tends not to be the preferred exit from traveling with the Doctor, but it does happen, and Face the Raven is maybe the most dramatic companion death on record. It's perhaps a fitting end (but not really) to the arc of Clara Oswald, who was always more than your typical wayward-girl-who-stumbled-on-board-the-TARDIS. But does the story support the emotional weight of such an impactful moment? And what does "remember 82" mean? Let's get this bird on our brains — just as soon as we get of our chests our first reactions to the news that Russell T. Davies is returning to Doctor Who. And so, from the worst Doctor Who episode ever, we fly into the best story Clara ever did. Is it that good? Or is it just good because last week's was so terrible? Listen along to find out the answer....

Doc heads to Diagon Alley to investigate a pain-in-the-neck countdown and loses yet another companion in the process
We wrap up our trilogy of Clara episodes with a look at some stories from her final season aboard the TARDIS. We examine what "Under The Lake"/"Before The Flood" has to say about her willingness to do what needs to be done to save the day, and then how "Face The Raven" reveals just how dangerous acting like the Doctor can be. Also, we briefly reconsider "Sleep No More", and even Alasdair admits they've met their match on this one. We also talk generally about why this is probably our favorite season of new Doctor Who, and how essential Clara's character arc is to that. Next time, join us for Rory... well, just listen to the end for what silly name we give to our Rory special.
Tough one here. The Marrieds deal with the loss of a character, argue about how the raven thing works, and have a ton of audio issues. Enjoy!

We're nearing the end of Series 9 with Face the Raven. This episode starts out so cool with returning characters and aliens, and there are a lot of awesome ideas to play with. Then right at the end Clara dies, which... really sours the mood. But sometimes sad endings make for amazing episodes, and that is certainly the case this week.
We dissect Face the Raven this time out, a Doctor Who episode starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. Our podcast was originally recorded and posted fall of 2015. Notes Music by PJM25595/Dalekium @pjm25595 Podcast and Blog at kotwg.blogspot.com/p/podcast.html
We open with reading an email from David about Rachel Talalay's direction and with acknowledging that David Tennant and Billie Piper have returned as the 10th Doctor and Rose. Then we turn our attention to a pair of stories linked by the rather wonderful guest character Rigsy. Allison remembered "Flatline" as just the tiny TARDIS episode, but it's so much weirder and scarier and better than all that. Then we look at "Face The Raven," which keeps seeming like it's going to be whimsical, yet steadfastly refuses to do anything but keep the audience off-kilter. Mostly, we realize these are two of the very best Clara episodes ever, and it forms part of our unplanned Jenna Coleman tribute tour with a lot of the other recent series eight and nine episodes we've discussed. Then join us next week for the start of some yuletide festivities as we look at a pair of Christmas-set, Charles Dickens-centric stories, "The Unquiet Dead" and "A Christmas Carol"!
We take a look at a pair of two-parters that are all about war, but first we consider all we can from the recently released preview clip for the upcoming Christmas special, "Twice Upon A Time." Overall, we really like what we see from Mark Gatiss and David Bradley, and it goes without saying we're going to be good with pretty much anything Peter Capaldi does at this point. Then, to business! The Sontaran two-parter has some good things going for it, but it has maybe the worst, most obnoxious guest character in the entire new series, and it's all so dumbfoundingly superficial in its ideas about war. That's not a problem the Zygon two-parter has, which maybe isn't quite as clever as it seems to think it is but does do a bunch of legitimately incredible things... including that speech. Yes, Alasdair has thoughts on that speech. And then join us next week for a look at Clara and Rigsy in "Flatline" and "Face The Raven"!
An idiot scientist compresses sleep into five-minute cycles, thus turning eye-boogers into roaring beasties ("Sleep No More"). Rigsy finds himself under the shadow of a death sentence, but a bad play on Clara's part has fatal consequences ("Face the Raven"). Then, in the wake of Clara's death, The Doctor finds himself trapped in a puzzle / prison created exclusively for him, resulting in a return to Gallifrey and the start of a new adventure ("Heaven Sent" / "Hell Bent"). Also: The guys bid farewell to Jenna Coleman, rank season nine, have a theory about how to consume one of the episodes, and leave a Christmas present for Ian in the form of an outtake. Your emails guide us through this week’s discussion, as we kick things off by considering what a male companion might mean for the show and the very real possibility that Steven Moffat is basing his creative decisions off what we say on this podcast. Also, Caroline offers some Who Alum Theater thoughts on the David Tennant-starring, Marvel-produced Netflix show Jessica Jones. Then we get into some serious discussion of the heartbreaking “Face The Raven,” reading emails both positive and … well, maybe not negative, exactly, but less than positive about this game-changing episode. But how do Caroline and Alasdair feel about this pivotal story? You know you’re going to need to listen to find out!
This week Anthony Lewis, Aaron De La Ossa, and Ben Knight sit down to discuss the 10th episode of Doctor Who’s 9th series entitled “Face The Raven” plus we play another rousing game of “How much does this Doctor Who thing on eBay and/or Etsy cost?”

In which So we all know what happens in this episode, right? Like, we're all on board? Because there's going to be some spoilers. Just... clllllll kinds of them. So. This week, Brandon and Danica are talking about "Face The Raven" - the 10th episode of Doctor Who's 9th series. Maisie Williams is there! That's not really a spoiler. Well it is, but... hey, you know what? Let's not beat around the bush here. You know why you're downloading this. You want to hear drunk people talk about the thing that happened. Well, we do! So yay? Oh, and then we wax poetic about Jessica Jones, because you guys, Jessica Jones is amazing and heartbreaking. Yeah. Outro music is "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Öyster Cult.
Phil Sandifer talks to the fantastic Holly Boson about Face the Raven.
Darryl Johnston is back with another season 10 review of Doctor Who and the episode "Face The Raven." The post Who Review #10 – Face the Raven (a Doctor Who podcast) appeared first on Galactic Netcasts.
Clara, then, eh? Certainly the most ambitious, far-reaching set of character arcs ever crammed into one perfectly fine but somewhat nondescript figure. In Doctor Who. Apart from The Doctor. An impossible girl, created by leaf and destroyed by bird and scattered throughout time and space and also she kissed Jane Austen, you know. Joe and Chris get decidedly unemotional as they cover this well-received, somewhat overwrought bit of telly and produce probably the only Doctor Who podcast this week to throw in an entirely relevant reference to The Rage: Carrie 2 We record at Joe's this week so naturally every idling car outside sound like a passing Star Destroyer but on the plus side, neither of us play any instruments and there's a shocking moment where one of us has a thought that's best not spoken aloud and we DON'T THEN GO ON TO SPEAK IT ALOUD. An astonishing development, we're sure you'll agree. www.ehpodcast.com

“You. Now, you listen to me. You’re going to be alone now, and you’re very bad at that. You’re going to be furious and you’re going to be sad, but listen to me. Don’t let this change you. No, listen. Whatever happens next, wherever she is sending you — I know what you’re capable of. You don’t be a warrior. Promise me. Be a Doctor. Heal yourself. You have to. You can’t let this turn you into a monster. So I’m not asking […]
Wow. Face the Raven, episode 10 of #DoctorWho Series 9, certainly made the podKast team sit up and take notice! This week, it's Brian A Terranova and James McLean on a pre-recorded show, looking at the implications of Face the Raven and Clara's apparent departure. Was she well written enough as a woman, or did writing fall into the trap of "sassiness as a character trait"? And what sort of companion should come next? A male companion? An alien? Perhaps a younger companion?
On this weeks show, Phil and Paul decide to look at the beady eye of an evil member of the crow family and Face The Raven! Yes, this is the big one folks, Clara Oswald has left the building! Or has she? Join Phil and Paul in the podcasting equivalent of a trap street and listen to them ponder over the merits of Ashildr's plan to entice the Doctor into her web of deceit and was this a good exit for Jenna Coleman and will she back? And in the news this week, extended run times for Heaven Sent and Hell Bent, a possible R1 DVD release for The Underwater Menace and of course, stats. All this plus listener feedback!
In this episode Raissa and Ian sink their teeth into 'Sleep No More' and 'Face The Raven'.The first of the two episodes written by Mark Gatiss is perhaps the most frightening episode of 'Doctor Who' to date and made a few controversial decisions elsewhere, which are some of the things that we'll discuss.'Face The Raven' is the episode, which finally said goodbye to Clara and seemingly didn't do to much to resolve her story arc, which we hope will resolve by the season finale. We'll take a look at that and discuss in full during this meaty half hour of all things 'Doctor Who'.
Traumatic, wasn't it? Let John and Loll take you by the hand and lead you through a street of London in this, the antepenultimate podcast of Doctor Who Series 9.
If we've learned one thing in literature about Ravens, is that they represent death, and this holds true for Doctor Who's Latest episode: Face the Raven. Join David and Jeremy as they discuss Ravens, Tattoos, and strange little alleyways that may harken themselves to Harry Potter more than Doctor who. Rigsy, our friend from Flatline, joins The Doctor and Clara as they face off against an unknown foe and take wild risks that certainly don't pay off.Read More... It was time to bid farewell to Clara in Doctor Who: Face The Raven, Maisie Williams also made a welcome return though some not me don’t seem to like her acting. Possibly a brave decision to kill off Clara but the character had gone beyond mere risk taker into arrogance and may have been heading for a fall.
