Steven Spielberg's West Side Story is released on 10 December - the director's long-delayed, big-budget remake of the influential screen classic, first released 60 years ago. Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode explore the cinematic connections sparked by this ground breaking musical film. West Side Story transplants Romeo & Juliet's star-crossed lovers and warring tribes from Renaissance Italy to mid-20th century Manhattan. Mark looks back at a couple of other movie takes on Shakespeare's love story with the help of their directors - Abel Ferrara on lost genre gem China Girl and Baz Luhrmann on his iconic 90s Romeo +Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. And Ellen investigates the authenticity of the gritty street musical, from West Side Story to YouTube hit Shiro's Story, with the help of actors Rita Moreno and Joivan Wade, and film historian Martha Shearer. We also hear what Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and national treasure Miriam Margolyes have been watching, as they share their Viewing Notes. Screenshot is Radio 4's guide through the ever-expanding universe of the moving image. Every episode, Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode journey through the main streets and back roads connecting film, television and streaming over the last hundred years. Percy attended the BRIT school but the way he has come up in the business proves that there is more than one way to carve your own niche in the industry than by going the traditional route; In 2011 Percelle and his friends and partners Joivan Wade and Dee Kaate released the first episode of their Youtube series Mandem on the Wall. In it’s first day Mandem clocked around 30,000 views and their channel, Wall of Comedy now has 470,000 followers. The success and quality of the show led to the E4 program Youngers and, more recently, their three-part short film Shiro’s Story (which has amassed around 17 million views and grown a dedicated following) has led them to sign a major development deal with E4 . In this episode Sam and Percelle discuss mental health, Percy’s non-traditional path through the business as well as the difficulties or being a actor starting out in their career inspiration - particularly those faced by working class actors and the challenges (and advantages) that brings. Had a rough week? The cheerfully silly, R-rated weirdness of "Doom Patrol" might be just what you need. The DC Universe show is a little bit "X-Men," a little bit 1950s monster movie, and a lot of lesson-free fun. "Doom Patrol" follows Brendan Fraser as a lumbering robot man named, uh, "Robot Man," who joins a grimly goofy team of super zeroes who live together in Doom Manor under the guardianship of their "Chief," played by Timothy Dalton. The cast includes Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl, Matt Bomer as Negative Man, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, and Alan Tudyk as their arch-nemesis, Mr. Nobody."Doom Patrol" has drawn many "X-Men" comparisons because Chief, like Professor X, uses a wheelchair, lives in a secluded mountain and leads a team of outcasts. But the first "Doom Patrol" comic actually beat the first issue of "X-Men" by three months, back in 1963.So turn off your brain and enjoy "Doom Patrol." You'll just laugh, wince, and watch a puff of green smoke emerge from a donkey's butt, one of several butts you'll see in the first couple episodes. On the second episode of the Doom Patrol Podcast (a.k.a. the Titans Podcast), your hosts Andy Behbakht, Corinne McCreery Laura Sirikul, and Amy Giardiniere get together to cover the second episode of DC Universe’s newest show Doom Patrol! In episode 2, titled "Donkey Patrol", it picks up right after the events of the pilot as the Chief is still missing. As the squad handles the disappearance of the Chief in their own ways, Vic Stone a.k.a. Cyborg joins them in the search for their leader. In addition to the episode discussion, the gang gets into the confusing statements by April Bowlby and showrunner Jeremy Carver, through KSiteTV, that Doom Patrol may actually not be in the same universe as Titans, despite it being a spin-off from DC Universe's first original show. What does this all mean?! That and more on this week’s episode of the Doom Patrol Podcast (a.k.a. the Titans Podcast!) "Following Mr. Nobody's capture of Niles Caulder and the destruction of Cloverton Ohio, The Doom Patrol investigate the mysterious albino donkey and discover it is a door to another universe, one where Mr. Nobody is in control. Cyborg aka Vic Stone (series star JOIVAN WADE), a part man/part machine hero from Detroit who has his own complicated relationship with Niles Caulder, joins the search. Guest Stars: Phil Morris as Silas Stone, Julie McNiven as Sheryl Trainor, Kyle Clements as John Bowers" Find Titans Podcast on: Social Media: Facebook – @TitansPodcast – Instagram Subscribe: Apple Podcasts – Stitcher Radio – YouTube – DC TV Podcasts– Google Play – iHeartRadio Contact: thetitanspodcast@gmail.com Support: TeePublic Store
