“We voted Brexit and all we got was this lousy podcast…” Ten years since the vote that sent Britain round the bend, could we finally break out of the trap of 2016? We're joined by the Obi Wan Kenobi of Brexit bloggers Chris Grey to look into the enormity of Pandora's Referendum. In a world so violently changed from 2016, is there hope for Britain to get back into the EU? Despite populism, are the stars aligning for the UK and the EU? And should anyone serious about reuniting Britain and the EU be talking about joining, not rejoining? As Raf says: “With a bit of political courage we could be in a very different debate.”  • Want more on Brexit? A quick run through of some developments around the EHRC, including some serious questioning by the Women & Equalities Committee. Rob McKnight, from his garage on the Gold Coast, covers the big media stories of the week on Media McKnight, episode 45. Robert Irwin has been named host of the 2026 Logie Awards, and the reaction in the comments has been overwhelmingly negative. Rob breaks down what the appointment might signal for Channel 7's longer-term plans — and what it could mean for Dr. Chris Brown. FIFA has introduced mandatory water breaks at the World Cup — and broadcasters are allowed to run commercials during them. Fans are furious, calling it a money grab. But Rob argues the real story is the financial reality facing free-to-air broadcasters competing for every ad dollar in a fractured media market. Plus, a spidercam fell 20 metres onto the pitch during a football friendly in Hungary — and the footage is terrifying. Reports are emerging that Kyle Sandilands and ARN could be close to a settlement in their Federal Court dispute. Rob makes a bold prediction on tape — and acknowledges there'll be no hiding if he's wrong. And in Rob's Rant: Doctor Who has been effectively canceled under Russell T. Davies, with the BBC Christmas special scrapped and the show put out to tender. Rob argues the audience wasn't against diversity — they were against being lectured. - FIFA World Cup ad breaks debate - Spidercam falls at Hungary match - Molly Meldrum health fears - Robert Irwin named 2026 Logies host - Kyle Sandilands vs ARN — settlement on the cards? - Doctor Who cancelled — Rob's Rant

This week we wanted to explore 1980s fantasy. But sometimes it's hard to recover nostalgia when present-day villains keep killing our favorite heroes. Last week, the BBC announced Doctor Who is dead. For now. Rest in peace, Time Lord. Also these days, Stargate fans are rallying to hold Amazon to its original promises of restoring that universe with original creators, and stop the ‘Zon from some “modern audience” reboot. For these and fans of other Star franchises, how do we mourn? Doctor Who destroyed by Russell T. Davies BBC, June 10: “BBC cancels Doctor Who Christmas special and Russell T Davies announces exit,” absolutely predictable end. Back in 2005, Davies revived Doctor Who serials on television. The series had “politically correct” moments, yet great writing. Writer Steven Moffat took over. The show got big. Then declined. In the late 2010s, political leftists demanded Doctor Who A lackluster showrunner took over. Fans rejected a gender-swap. Davies returned a political omnicause monster. He killed the Doctor. 2. Amazon rejects a fan-centered Stargate Variety, June 2: “‘Stargate' TV Series From Martin Gero Not Moving Forward at Amazon (EXCLUSIVE),” and fans were outraged. Original creators were on board, per the Nov. 2025 announcement. Now they join fans opposing this seeming ridiculous double-back. Amazon may want a “modern audience” show, not original fans. This is a universe more impossible than any sci-fi scenario. That's not how you grow a fanbase ever. True fans will grow it. Stephen finds this similar to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. He's drawn in! 3. Star Trek/Wars still struggle to survive We saved this for last because fans everywhere rightly lament. Since our last episode on the topic, we've seen major updates. Mandalorian and Grogu bombed. Starfleet Academy was axed. Technically both franchises flounder ahead with illusory intent. Kathleen Kennedy is finally leaving Lucasfilm, owned by Disney. Star Trek showrunner Robert Kurtzman is likely next to go. Corporations aren't evil. But inhuman corporatism is parasitic. This “mind of metal and wheels” has ruined stories for Christians. But now the Christians are improving. These stories are decaying. We really can't pretend “popular culture” is just neutral ground. Activists do want to kill these stories and replace them with others. To speak truth, we should acknowledge the justifiable backlash. And then we mourn their deaths. But not as those without hope. After all, the results could be worse. What if the hijacking worked? Even non-Christian fans saw through the trick. And they said no. The “market” did its job, perhaps thanks to God's common grace. It's nearly like the Law rightly punishing violators. It is necessary. Let them suffer the results. Maybe repent. But retreat in disgrace. And if possible, may better storytellers rise up to restore worlds. Until then, let great story-worlds like Doctor Who rest in peace. Com station Top question for listeners How do you grieve the loss of fantastical stories you once loved? Next on Fantastical Truth One of the sillier myths in our culture is that “Most men don't read.” Sometimes this is a real trend. Other times it's wishful thinking because some creators don't want to make stories that celebrate boys and men. Still, we can look to fathers and mentors to train younger men, not just to love truth, but to love fantastical stories that honor truth. Just in time for the next stage of the Lightraiders tabletop game system, pilot and author James R. Hannibal returns to the studio to help fight dragons.

In 1998, eight months into Tony Blair's government, seven gay and bisexual working-class men from Bolton were convicted at Crown Court of buggery and gross indecency for having consensual sex together in a private home. No victim. No complaint. Some went to prison. All were placed on the sex offenders register. The laws used against them dated back to 1895, and in one case to 1533. Greater Manchester Police, the same force that prosecuted Alan Turing, pursued this case with a fervour no other police force in the country was matching at the time. Almost nobody knows this happened. Hugh Sheehan is the writer and audio producer behind Criminally Queer: The Bolton 7, the five-part BBC Sounds documentary series that spent years in the making and is referenced in Russell T Davies' Channel 4 drama Tip Toe, starring Alan Cumming as a gay bar owner in Manchester's Gay Village. Davies made Tip Toe because, in his words, the fight is back on. He's right. And the Bolton Seven are a significant part of why. In this episode of Outcast World, Graeme and Hugh cover the full story: the centuries-old laws that remained quietly on the books after partial decriminalisation in 1967, the two-man rule that made consensual group sex a criminal act regardless of what straight people were doing, the class dimension that meant working-class men from Bolton had no legal defences that a wealthier man in a privately owned home might have had, and the Chief Constable whose fundamentalist homophobia had shaped Greater Manchester Police for over a decade before the Bolton Seven were ever arrested. Criminally Queer: The Bolton 7 is available on BBC Sounds, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

In this chat with Josh, Russell opens up about why he wrote Tip Toe, a gripping new drama about two neighbours whose feud grows darker and more dangerous, and how it reflects a world where online anger is spilling into real life with terrifying consequences.  He talks candidly about what it still feels like to come out every single day, why the MeToo movement barely scratched the surface, and why he thinks intimacy coordinators on set are essential, not optional. He also gets into why visibility, the very thing he has championed his whole career, may now be making the queer community a bigger target, and why he believes a fight is coming that we all need to be ready for.

Russell T Davies is back with Tiptoe and it has left viewers shaken. In this episode of Outcast World, Graeme Smith and Topher Taylor unpack the first two episodes of Channel 4's most talked-about new queer drama and ask why it feels less like fiction and more like a warning. From the brutal opening scene to Melba's now-viral speech about queer life in 2026, the conversation explores whether LGBTQ+ people are witnessing a genuine backlash after decades of progress. Has the optimism of the Queer as Folk era been replaced by fear? Are queer people becoming political targets once again? And what happens when online hate starts spilling into the real world? Graeme and Topher discuss the rise of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, attacks on queer spaces, social media radicalisation, Reform UK, Donald Trump, trans rights, community resilience and the uncomfortable feeling that many rights once considered secure may no longer be guaranteed. The episode also features the debut of "Topher's Slag Bag" as listeners send in questions about sex, relationships, toys, threesomes and navigating intimacy. A funny, emotional and sometimes unsettling conversation about queer life, community, sex and politics in 2026. In this episode: • Russell T Davies' Tiptoe and its cultural impact • The legacy of Queer as Folk • LGBTQ+ rights and political backlash • Reform UK, Trump and the rise of reactionary politics • Canal Street, queer spaces and community • Social media radicalisation and online hate • HIV, memory and generational trauma • Topher's Slag Bag: sex toys, anal prep and threesomes Outcast World is the global queer group chat — covering LGBTQ+ news, politics, sex and culture from London around the world. This ol’ internetty thing has been positively *alive* with Doctor Who rumours over last few weeks. What’s happening with this year’s Christmas edition of our beloved show?! After Ncuti Gatwa’s fleeting incarnation morphed into Billie Piper at the end of The Reality War last year, the BBC shared their post-Disney+ masterplan for Christmas 2026 and beyond. Journey back to October last year to hear our coverage of that news. However, silence has since fallen. Russell T Davies didn’t even mention the special in his recent interview with James O’Brien when discussing his future, and event went as far as to say, he’s “not filming again until next year”! But did he actually mean Doctor Who? IT’S ALL SO CONFUSING! So, Christmas Special, or no Christmas Special?! Join Ashley, Phil and Ian as they try to make sense of it all! Enjoy the show.

Luke returns to join Matt and Dawn to review four new shows available on various platforms this week.  Firstly, Russell T Davies is back with an original drama about modern society called Tip Toe. The series features career-best performances from Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as two men on a dangerous collision course. It's a show with a lot to say about the state of the world today and the dangers of living your life as someone viewed as 'other'. It's such a strong series and the sort of drama Channel 4 should be making, but it does some things that the team often dislikes. Next, a favourite from last year, The Four Seasons, returns for a second season on Netflix. The warm friendship comedy drama, starring Tina Fey, Will Forte and Colman Domingo, follows three sets of couples who holiday together four times a year. Everything we loved about the first season still works and it's just lovely to have a show like this which is warm, engaging, funny and low stakes as this in a television landscape which is still obsessed with thrillers. Next, Australian comic Sam Campbell, who rose to fame through panel show performances and an incredible appearence on Last One Laughing on Prime Video, now has his own comedy series, Make That Movie. The series, which follows Campbell's character, a respected film director and his team as they attempt to make the movie of regular people's ideas. If you are aware of Campbell's comedic style, the series is really surreal and silly, but funny and feels very different to the rest of Channel 4's comedy slate. Lastly, Hacks, a show we've loved since it began, comes to an end. We do a deep dive into the final episode and what made the show work so well.  For our Quiz, Luke tests Matt and Dawn to name as many actors as they can from the Russell T Davies shows.

Russell T Davies has spent a career changing what British television can be, moving from children's drama to fearless queer storytelling and one of the nation's most enduring cultural institutions, Doctor Who. Whether reinventing Saturday night television, capturing the emotional truth of the AIDS crisis in It's a Sin, or turning the anxieties of modern Britain into gripping drama in Years and Years and his new series Tip Toe, his work has consistently shaped the conversation as well as entertained millions. In this episode of Full Disclosure, James O'Brien sits down with Russell to explore the childhood in Swansea that first formed him: a home full of books, teachers and respect for television, a huge comprehensive school where he learned to keep his head down, and the youth theatre that gave him both his tribe and his future.Russell reflects on the early obsession with Doctor Who, the long road into writing, and the Manchester years that changed everything, professionally and personally. He talks about finding his voice through queer characters, the shock of Queer as Folk becoming a cultural flashpoint, and why television has always felt like the natural home for the stories he wants to tell. They also discuss politics, backlash, imagination, gay identity and the darker mood shaping modern Britain. Along the way, Russell explains why storytelling is a form of witness, why no childhood is too happy to produce serious art, and how the obsessions of youth can become the work of a lifetime.Watch Tip Toe on Channel 4 from May 31st here Full Disclosure is a Global ProductionListen or watch every Friday on Global Player, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal -> https://nordvpn.com/fulldisclosure Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee

Season 2 of Geekstorians continues with one of the strangest survival stories in geek culture. In ‘The Wilderness Years', Dave looks at what happened after Doctor Who disappeared from television in 1989. No big finale. No proper ending. Just a show the BBC quietly stopped making, and an audience that refused to accept that as the end of the story. This episode follows the long years when Doctor Who survived off screen through novels, audio dramas, conventions, magazines and the sort of organised fan determination Britain tends to produce whenever an institution behaves like it has misplaced its own brain. It is also the story of how the people keeping Doctor Who alive during those years turned out to be the people who would eventually bring it back. Writers such as Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and Paul Cornell all emerge from the wider culture that kept the show going while the BBC was looking the other way. From the BBC's attempts to sideline the series, to the 1996 TV movie, to Big Finish giving the Doctor a life beyond the screen, this is an episode about what happens when a show stops being just a programme and becomes something its audience is not prepared to lose.If the first two episodes of Season 2 were about collapse and near-disaster, this one is about survival through absence. About what lives on when the official version disappears.Geekstorians is a documentary-style podcast from Dave Elliott of Geektown, exploring the hidden history of geek culture, fandom, film, television, comics and gaming.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown.
