How to share Theology of the Body with young children, how to discuss Catholic teaching on gender with children, and the best steps for education yourself on Theology of the Body. Ask Christopher West is a weekly podcast in which Theology of the Body Institute President Christopher West and his beloved wife Wendy share their humor and wisdom, answering questions about marriage, relationships, life, and the Catholic faith, all in light of John Paul II’s beautiful teachings on the Theology of the Body. Patron Question: My husband and I are Natural Family Planning teachers with the Billings method. We believe that using NFP has brought us closer to God. We know Theology of the Body is the foundation for our closeness. Do you have any thoughts about how we can begin to share this amazing gift with our young children, ages 5, 4, and 2? Question 2: Hi! My question is in regards to gender dysphoria, specifically how to address and discuss Catholic teachings and gender change to children and to other non-Catholic friends. I very recently made the decision to take my children out of public school. There were numerous issues including the introduction of condom use and where to get them to my 11 year old but my question is in regards to my 10 year old daughter. Her friend has come out to the classroom as changing genders. They watched videos on the subject and essentially were told everyone has the freedom to choose their sex and gender doesn't equal biology essentially. I have read your book of Theology of the Body for Beginners and it was amazing, but can you give me some "go to" compassionate conversation to spread to my children as well as non-Catholic friends who are asking about my decision to homeschool and the lgbtq movement? Qestion 3: Hello Christopher and Wendy! I was introduced to TOB through Dr. Juli Slattery's ministry, Authentic Intimacy. I have just finished reading Our Bodies Tell God's Story and I have been profoundly impacted and moved by TOB. I would say Our Bodies Tell God's Story is one of my favourite books ever! I have also been learning a lot from your podcast. Thank you for modeling a loving marriage together in your podcast! As a married woman I have questions about what sexual behaviors are honoring in the bedroom. Can you direct me to where I can have questions about this answered? I’m also wondering in what order I should read your books and resources? What are the next steps in educating myself about TOB. Thank you again for your ministry and for sharing your marriage through the podcast! Submit your question at AskChristopherWest.com (http://www.askchristopherwest.com). How did you know they were "the one"? What is a normal age to start dating? Why do Catholics place such an emphasis on Mary? Ask Christopher West is a weekly podcast in which Theology of the Body Institute President Christopher West and his beloved wife Wendy share their humor and wisdom, answering questions about marriage, relationships, life, and the Catholic faith, all in light of John Paul II’s beautiful teachings on the Theology of the Body. Want to support the Theology of the Body Institute? Become a Patron (https://community.theologyofthebody.com)! Q1: Hi there! I have a personal question for you. Can you each tell the story of how you knew each other was “the one”? You have a beautiful marriage and I love listening to your podcast!! Q2: Hi Wendy and Christopher! In your opinion, what is a normal age to start dating? I am wondering because I think many people rush into relationships when they’re too immature to be discerning marriage but sometimes it is important to have learning experiences and allow feelings to be expressed, especially when you’re young. I don’t want to be set up for heartbreak but I also don’t want to live in fear! What are your thoughts on this? Q3: Hello Christopher and Wendy. I was raised with a very negative view of Catholics, but your podcast has opened my mind. Can you explain to me, a Protestant, why Catholics place such an emphasis on Mary? Why do you pray to her and not just Jesus? - it seems very odd (and somewhat pagan). The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son… from the Father, full of grace and truth. -ESV Have you ever pondered that text from John 1:14? That Almighty God would step down off His throne where myriads of angels continually sing Holy, Holy Holy….for the sole purpose of showing us how to live, how to die, defeating death and casting our sins as far as the east is from the west. Yes my dear Brothers and Sisters the veil has indeed been torn. How? The Word became flesh…. Why? Why would the Word (Jesus Christ) become flesh? Revelation 21:3 tells us: Behold, the dwelling place of God is with….man. He will dwell among them….and they will be His people… and God Himself will be with them… as their God. Wow! So, if Jesus Christ became flesh, and He is physically going to dwell among His people in the New Heaven & the New Earth….why do we as His bride tend to think our own physical bodies as…. bad? That somehow our flesh is just a mere “tent” that houses all our evil desires? Is that really the case? Have we really ever considered the theology of our bodies? Any recommendations for a couple that is dating who wants to include TOB in their relationship? Do you think the "Culture of Death" that we currently live in can be overcome? I’m currently dating a Christian (Non-Catholic) and is interested in TOB. I’m trying to figure out a way to bring it into the conversation while our relationship is young. Everything we do—good, evil, neutral—speaks to our longing for heaven. World-renowned teacher of Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body and bestselling author, Christopher West, leans into this longing and unpacks it with outrageous wisdom and tenderness. This is one we are all going to be going back and listening to several times. It is that rich. (And don't worry: Those of you who want some of that goofball action, we make sure to talk about rats dying in Wendy's grease buckets. Yep.) Highlights: "Here’s the whole Bible in five words: ‘God wants to marry us.’” --Christopher West "We have three choices when it comes to our desire: We are either going to become the Stoic and repress the desire, an Addict and indulge in the finite pleasures of the world that never satisfy, or I am going to become…[an] Aspiring Mystic…someone who opens their hunger to the infinite.” --Christopher West Question of the Week for Next Week: What were you modeled/taught to do with your emotions growing up? This sin of objectification is truly hurting us all, men and women alike. Women have been taught they can use their body to manipulate others and men have been sold the lie that they are just naturally lustful and are hopeless to change. But, the Christ – centered, good news message St. John Paul II delivered during his Wednesday addresses tells us something very different. In Part 2 of our conversation with Christopher West, we go deeper into the meaning of Theology of the Body and how “we must rediscover the lost fullness of our humanity and long to regain it.” (JPII) Part 2 of 2 – Make sure you start with Part 1 (last week) for the beginning of the story. So, for example, I would read it this way: Dustin is patient and kind; Dustin does not envy or boast; Dustin is not arrogant or rude. Dustin does not insist on his own way. Sooo, you get the point right? The point is that this text humbles us, doesn’t it? We’re reading something that we know is not entirely true. Well, today, we start a brand new series with someone who has lots of stories on humility. Christopher West is a best selling author, speaker, teacher and world-renowned expert on John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body”. Christopher’s exposition on how the human body magnifies and glorifies God is something that everyone should hear. His writings are deeply Biblical, Christ-centered and at the end of the day quite profound. If you are not familiar with the name Christopher West or Pope John Paul II’s work on the Theology of the Body, you are in for a real treat. Let me point you to his website - www.ChristopherWest.com. We’ve had Christopher on the show several years ago, discussing his book, “Fill These Hearts” and this week we get to see a personal side of Christopher with his new book titled, “Love Is Patient, But I'm Not: Confessions of a Recovering Perfectionist” On today’s episode of God, Sex and You, we’ll discuss: 1) The gap of what were called to be and where we are. 2) How God works in reality. 3) Taking an honest inventory of my life.

The meaning of life, our very existence, directly corresponds to the mystery of Christ and his Church. This mystery is all about an eternal communion of love. Genesis & Revelation: redemptive bookends: The marriage of Adam and Eve is the high point of the creation story in Genesis, and the marriage of the New Adam and the New Eve, Christ and the Church, is the high point of the redemption story in the book of Revelation” (Christopher West, Fill These Hearts, p 101). “At the heart of the Gospel lies the “great mystery” of the marriage of divinity and humanity in the person of Jesus Christ. The fullness of time, the two – God and Man – became one in the flesh of the God-Man” (Christopher West, At the Heart of the Gospel, p. 7). “As if God’s visitation wasn’t enough, this astounding visitation is itself an astounding invitation.” We are invited into the same nuptial exchange. God became one in the flesh with us so that we might become one in the flesh with him” (Christopher West, At the Heart of the Gospel, p. 7). What were the first human words spoken in the bible? “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh!” Gen. 2:23 These are words of the bridegroom’s desire for his bride. And the last human words spoken in the bible are words of the Bride’s desire for the coming of her Bridegroom: “The Spirit and the bride say ‘Come!’ … ‘Come Lord Jesus’” (Rev. 22:17, 20). The whole story of our salvation, the whole biblical story, is framed by the desire of the bridegroom for union with the bride, and the desire of the Bride for union with the Bridegroom. The Framework for the Biblical Story JPII covers three epochs of human history to frame the whole biblical story. 1. Original humanity – Genesis 1- 2 2. Historical humanity – Genesis 3 forward 3. Eschatological humanity – The Return of Christ for his Bride the Church Without this simple framework, all the other pieces of the biblical puzzle will lack context and ultimate meaning. Those who spend time with puzzles usually put the outside framework together before constructing the inside. Christopher West offers JPII’s framework in the following three words: Design, desire and destiny.
