HAPPY MONDAY MOTIVATION! Welcome back to another episode of "No More Excuses!"  In this episode, I take a sledgehammer to perfectionism — the sneaky excuse that keeps you stuck. Perfection is Screwing You Over! You're not waiting for the “right time,” you're just scared. Success doesn't come from waiting—it comes from DOING. The winners in business and life aren't waiting for perfection. They take messy action, learn, and keep going. Listen in as I share that I am a "Recovering Perfectionist" and what I was challenged to do as my first homework assignment as a coach! And then, I give you YOUR challenge to get you OUT of PERFECTIONIST-MODE and INTO ACTION-MODE! Stop tweaking. Start DOING. Stop planning. Start EXECUTING. Share this episode with someone who needs to hear it, and remember: Perfection won't get you success—ACTION will. Now, go get shit done!

Text your thoughts and questions!Do you struggle to take action because something has to be “just right,” or do you beat yourself up for everything you've done wrong (without noticing all you've done right)? Maybe you feel like you're just not enough because you can't reach the level of achievement or quality you want. If so, you may be labeled a “perfectionist.” Steph Ellen Diplock, a recovered perfectionist, joins me on the podcast today to delve into the complexities of perfectionism, exploring its roots, manifestations, and the impact it has on us as individuals (especially women). This week, episode 231 of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast is about how to become a recovering perfectionist! In addition to being a recovered perfectionist, Steph Ellen is a multi-passionate mindset coach, energetic healer, certified yoga teacher, and equine veterinarian. Steph works with high achievers to let go of perfectionism and self-sabotage and live their purpose without hustle. Steph's zone of genius is combining potent mindset coaching, shadow work, and nervous system regulation for a holistic and lasting transformation. In this episode of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast, Steph Ellen Diplock shares how perfectionism is too often glorified yet is actually a form of self-sabotage, leading to procrastination and a lack of authentic connection. She offers you actionable steps to take right now to overcome perfectionism.Steph Ellen and I cover the following topics:How perfectionism is less about having high standards and more a coping mechanism used to minimize feelings of shame and inadequacy. How to overcome perfectionism by being present, celebrating small successes, and having self-awareness paired with self-compassion.Finding safety in the body and practicing making mistakes in low-stakes environments are the first steps in getting comfortable with not being perfect. Keep in mind that as you start your journey, it's not about sacrificing high standards. It's about being kind to yourself in the process of trying to reach them. To overcome perfectionism, self-compassion–which is the greatest builder of resilience–is essential. CONNECT WITH STEPH ELLEN DIPLOCK:WebsiteInstagramCONNECT WITH LISA ZAWROTNY:ResourcesWork with Lisa! LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:(Find links to books/gear on the Positively Productive Resources Page.)How to Let Go of Shane and Rebuild Self-Trust with Valerie Friedlander5 Ways to Take Back Your Self-Worth with Jomana ElaridiInternal Family Systems As a Proven Treatment for Burnout with Katie LaCelle Binaural Beats: Sleep, Therapy, and Meditation (healthline.com)The Diary Of A CEO - YouTubeStart your own podcast with Buzzsprout!

Ever caught yourself trying to live your life like a curated Instagram gallery, each 'perfect' moment on display? This episode is dedicated to why we need to start tearing down that gallery wall.Like Mekiya Outini said on Tuesday's episode, the actual trauma is telling ourselves that life is perfect. Nothing is perfect! Yet, all external signals from society have taught us that to be valuable and worthy,  we have to be perfect. This is a complete lie. It's a lie that I have struggled with this myself – this striving to be perfect. At times, I have definitely wrapped my own self worth into the version of myself I wished I was, instead of simply accepting myself exactly as I am.That's why I take time in this episode to pull a thread from Mekiya's comment and unravel the concept of radical responsibility and how it can lead to genuine liberation. The cracks in our personal veneer are essential to our story's beauty, and I hope this episode invites you to breathe through the bounds of perfectionism and let your imperfect beauty shine. Nothing in nature is perfect. In fact, it's the imperfections that make every flower gorgeous. Journaling questions for this episode:Where might I be trying to fill in a hole? Where can I let nature be, exactly as it's intended to exist? Where in my life can I let myself love one of those little "natural holes" in my life, exactly as it is?Listen to this episode to hear:How taking radical responsibility for where you are can help you let go of perfectionism. Why your imperfections are a masterpiece. How to embrace the beauty of your life, exactly as it is.Mentioned in this episode:Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle, WAYouTube video showing a bit about Chihuly's creative processSupport the showJoin Brilliant Breathwork, the monthly membership offering multiple weekly live breathwork sessions with Jen and other trauma-informed facilitators, an extensive vault of replays, and a supportive community for authentic, creative, and radiant growth. Today, Debbie talks to Dale Russakoff, a veteran reporter for The Washington Post, a bestselling author, and a classmate from her Harvard/Radcliffe class of 1974. They talk about her surprising experience at Harvard as a woman from the South, her distinguished career as a journalist, and the importance of family. Debbie knew that Dale had been a reporter for The Washington Post for almost 30 years. And that she is the author of a best-selling book, THE PRIZE. But in this episode she told Debbie things she'd never heard before. Like what it was like to be a Southern girl at Harvard (with a Southern accent). Dale said she was reluctant to open her mouth at first. She'd grown up in Birmingham, AL and when she arrived in Cambridge she learned that Radcliffe never admitted white women from the South because the admissions committee assumed they were all racist. She and Debbie talk about what it was like to be a female student in the man's world of Harvard, how "ambition" fit into her college years and, later, how it related to Dale's career in journalism. They talk about the importance of family, including grandchildren. And how she feels AT. CAPACITY. (i.e. too busy) in semi-retirement, at age 71. //////////Don't miss Debbie's Substack essay on the topic of AT. Meet Megan, also known as The Savage Meglet. Megan is a force to be reckoned with, known for her grit, determination, resilience, and perseverance. As a lifelong athlete playing two Division 1 sports, field hockey and track, Megan had her sights set on her next athletic pursuit - a calm 80mph sled ride experiencing 5Gs of force going head first with her chin off the ice, representing Team USA and the Army World Class Athlete Program for over a decade. However, Megan's dreams were put on hold when she was diagnosed with life-threatening blood clots and was told she'd never be an athlete again. But instead of giving up, Megan chose to tell a different story. She battled back to become a multiple World Championship team member, a 2x Track Record Holder, and ranked as high as 8th in the world. She was also the fastest pusher in the United States and #1 in the United States for many years and a 2022 Olympic Alternate. Now, Megan is pursuing sport psychology, where she helps athletes harness their inner power by changing the story they tell themselves and harnessing the power of consistency and habits. Megan is a true inspiration to all who know her, and her story serves as a reminder that anything is possible with hard work, self belief and determination. Imagine waking up and making your to-do list as usual, but then there's a twist: you tell yourself that each item on your to-do list only needs to be done in an average way. The project doesn't have to be flawlessly worded. The kitchen only needs to be clean enough to make dinner tonight. The workout can be 20 minutes instead of an hour. If you start C+ing your life, as Jess Joswick and her clients say, you start working against a perfectionist mindset. What would happen if you did? How does this change your relationship with productivity? With failure? ICYMI – Your Post-Episode Homework: For one whole day, track what brings you energy and what doesn't. Perfectionism is a word and an idea that we throw around frequently, but has anyone taught us how to actually identify its signs within ourselves? Within our team? If we can't identify perfectionism within ourselves and in our team, we can't begin to dismantle it and develop more sustainable personal and professional habits. Awareness is the first step to becoming, as we like to say, a Recovering Perfectionist. This is part two of a three-part series where Erin is joined by business and leadership coach Jess Joswick to discuss perfectionism in all its forms, especially the ones we don't want to confront. With a special emphasis on the habits and mindsets that seem “normal” but are actually perfectionism in disguise, this episode helps you to discover what your particular perfectionistic tendencies are and begin brainstorming their sustainable replacements.   ICYMI – Your Post-Episode Homework: Ask yourself two questions, marinate on your responses, and journal specific actions steps you'll take as a result: 1) Do I identify with perfectionism? (Have I been in tinkering mode on any project? Have I been thinking and thinking about a specific project or tasks that need to get off my plate?) 2) Is anyone on my team dealing with perfectionism? (Are they working a lot of long hours? Are they experiencing black and white thinking? Are they truly working more than anybody else on your team, but the results just aren't there?)   Connect with Jess Joswick: Backbone Business Instagram Connect with Jess Joswick on LinkedIn   Show Links: Want to book Erin to speak at your organization or large-scale event: Learn more here! On today's episode, Ashley openly shares her journey as a recovering perfectionist, including her initial perceptions of what a socially acceptable, “perfect life” looked like and how she navigated the rough waters and uncomfortable conversations that ultimately led to a decision that changed the course of her life and business. So many entrepreneurs have that moment when they decided to get real with themselves and get curious about where life could take them. Realizing your potential and power is one thing, but what really creates quantum leaps is taking the next bold step to actualize your dreams and build the life you truly deserve and desire. In this episode, Ashley is interviewed by Christine Bar Noël, a life balance coach and host of the Recovering Perfectionist podcast. Allow this conversation to serve and support you in taking inspired action as you welcome another new year.“The most important thing you can do is follow your excitement, your bliss, and your passions. That will never lead you in the wrong direction. And it might feel scary, but it's sometimes scarier not to do those things. So, follow your highest excitement right now, whatever that is. Lead with your heart, not your head.”It's easy to say, ”Follow your dreams,” but the truth is that you may have to go through a lot of pressure and stress in order to achieve your goals. In the end, though, it's all worth it when you create real satisfaction and deep fulfillment by leading your own life, for you.Choose to be bold, brave, and relentless in your pursuit of your soul's calling.
