Episode 86 is an interview with the amazing athlete Maggie Guterl. Maggie made headlines when she won Big’s Backyard Ultra in 2019, a ‘last man standing’-style event run by Lazarus Lake (organiser of the infamous Barkley Marathons) which sees runners cover a 6.7km loop on repeat. Each lap must be completed within an hour and starts again on the hour and after that, it’s a battle to see which competitor outlasts the rest. Maggie completed 60 laps to cover a mind-boggling 402.5kms and win it outright – the first woman to do so. Maggie has also competed for Team USA at the IAU 24-Hour World Championships, she’s won the Brazos Bend 100-miler outright, come second at the Georgia Death Race and 8th at Western States, amongst other things. IN this interview we discuss her win at Bigs and what it will take to succeed at Barkley in 2021. I used to think that to get running injuries sorted, one needed to see a physio. How wrong was I! I have been seeing Luke Nelson, chiropractor at Health and High Performance in Mont Albert. Luek is a sports chiropractor who specialises in runners. He has been amazing at helping get on top of the niggles I have had since GSER back in 2019. Let Luke help you get on top of any niggles or injuries you may have now, so that you can enjoy running again and get back to preparing for the upcoming race season or just so that you run pain free! Come in and see Luke or any of the other specialists at Health and High Performance where they utilise the latest in technology, and experience, to help you get back to your running best. So, head to www.healthhp.com.au/run to book an appointment. I assure you, you won’t regret it! You can also find them on instagram: HealthHighPerformance where they regularly post informative videos on how to prevent injuries and develop flexibility and strength. We continue our discussion of the Self Esteem Gospel with guest Maggie Combs about the message "Follow Your Heart". The "follow your heart" message is extremely popular, and most wouldn't think twice about disagreeing with it. But, like Maggie says, this message has "self" at the center. And if this season of the podcast has taught you anything, we know that "self" at the center will result in slavery, not freedom. Throughout this episode, Maggie reminds us that ultimately, our desires are a good, God-given thing that have been affected by sin. As a result, we need to learn how to discern and guide our hearts to their true desire: God. Find Maggie of the Around the Table Podcast here: Website // Twitter // Instagram Maggie is a chef, registered dietitian, and podcast co-host who believes life is lived best when we seek beauty in the mundane moments of the day-to-day and let those moments inspire us creatively. For Maggie, that inspiration usually manifests in the kitchen. Maggie's bank account would tell you that she spends too much money on food, lipstick, and running shorts, and her weekend plans would tell you that she finds just as much joy sitting in a deer stand as she does shopping on King Street. Her last meal would probably consist of charcuterie, doughnuts, and bourbon. Maggie's favorite thing about food is the way that it creates community. More about the podcast Maggie co-hosts. Around the Table Podcast is the perfect balance of intention and indulgence. Dietitian and chef Maggie McDaris and blogger Jacey Verdicchio of The Balanced Wife talk relationships, health, intentional living, hospitality, and the ups and downs of life lately as 20-something ladies. Our goal is to help you live purposefully without skipping dessert. Pull up a chair and join us around the table. You’ll feel refreshed and inspired when you leave – promise! We loved chatting with Maggie! We also chatted with Maggie on her podcast, Around the Table. We also previously chatted with Maggie's co-host, Jacey. Two episodes to check out if you haven't yet! Maggie share with us what success is for her: "success for me is the moment you realize that your journey is not a linear one, and more important is that you realize it's even less about the journey and more about what you're storing up along the way...I think true success comes from a heightened awareness of the resources and experiences that you have you have at your disposal right now, so success is defined by how you've collected and stewarded those experiences and resources that you've picked up along the way." We talk with Maggie a lot about community and friendship: "For anything you want to accomplish, i think if you're surrounded by a team - and your people - then success is going to come more naturally because you have a support system."
