Hello and welcome back to the podcast, I am stoked you have joined me again, just for a shorty episode this time! Now, I know this episode is about periods, but I relay hope the men out there listen too. It's about time that talking about periods was no longer taboo. It's so interesting isn't it? A woman's period Is essential for the continuation of the species and yet we won't talk about it!! It's absolutely crazy! Why is it such a scary topic?? And I'm as guilty as anyone, up until a few years ago, I would have been too embarrassed to bring it up in polite (or otherwise!) conversation. The person who changed my outlook on this was my daughter. She laughed at me being embarrassed about it and said young women openly discussed it around males. Which I think is awesome! If you enjoy the pod, I would greatly appreciate it if you could subscribe, rate and review. I work hard to put this content out on a weekly basis, so would love to hear from you! I will be interviewing Erchana about her tip to toe run later this week to go out next week, so make sure you tune in for that one, it'll be good! Also, don't forget to support those businesses that support the podcast, Health and High Performance, who are in Mont Albert in Melbourne and will help you with all your running needs and niggles, and Peak Chocolate, delicious chocolate that is good for you! Mindfulness is the quality of being present and fully engaged with whatever we're doing at the moment — free from distraction or judgment, and aware of our thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them. It means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. Welcome to the podcast! Episode 165 is a chat with Sam Suke. Sam is a physio at Exercise Thought physiotherapy. We riff about how our mental perspective influences our physical self. I am a big believer in how our thoughts influence our actions…and also our rate of healing from injuries. A negative mindset negatively influences all aspects of our life. I know it's easier said than done, but we really need to try to speak positively about ourselves and about how we are healing from injuries. Let me know your thoughts on this topic by either emailing me isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.au or DM me on socials. Don't forget, to join my Facebook group, Peak Endurance Running. Hello and welcome back to the podcast! I hope your running and training is going well and if you are in Australia you are enjoying the cold weather, and we seem to be having a lot of it!! It's been a busy couple of weeks for me. I ran the 42k at Wandi Cross. I ran this just as a training run and to have fun. I wanted to enjoy racing again without any pressure and boy I did. It was great! I loved the course: steep climbs, runnable downs and some steep slippery downs that ended up with me sliding on my butt! So much fun. Next up Ron and I are going to be sweeping the Surf Coast Trail marathon this weekend, so look out for us there! Thank you so much to the Mel Thek who gave the podcast 5 stars and said: For every runner I've been running on and off for over 10 years. Welcome to the podcast! Episode 157 is a Down Under 135 special! DU135 is renowned for being an extremely tough race; it has a high dropout rate, tough cut offs and long finish times. This year was no exception, with only one finisher! First (and last!!) was Tom Dade in 53 hours and 8 minutes. This was 3 minutes quicker than last year in spite of it being 9 ½ kms longer, at 226.6km. This was an average pace of 14:04 per km. That pace sounds slow for a run, but for that course it is incredibly swift. And he did it with naps, so really his pace was faster! I've been on the course and that is just phenomenal. As an aside, he burnt a massive 22,235 calories!!! No wonder he lost weight, as you will hear. I also interview Adrian Bellin, an amazingly tough athlete who pushed himself incredibly hard out there on the course. He made it to the halfway point which as a first-timer is an unbelievable achievement. He tells his story, and it's a good one. The race threw everything at them; steep ascents, slippery descents, off-trail sections and river crossings. I speak with Adrian and Tom to find out about their different race experiences. I really hope you enjoy this episode, even though it is a fair bit longer than my usual podcasts! If you do enjoy this episode, please go on over to Apple podcasts to rate, review and subscribe. kozi_brumby gave 5 stars and says ‘Experience and knowledge are second to none. Welcome to podcast number 44 for Thanks for your Service. In many towns in many parks across Australia, you will almost certainly find a war memorial in dedication to those who served and died in wars from the Boer War to Afghanistan. I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and one particular memorial that I visited recently has a unique design. The Shrine at Surrey Gardens in Surrey Hills, features a carved timber Honour Roll. The Shrine was dedicated in 1918 before the armistice. Sandra Dexter with a background in journalism and editing joins us to talk about the history of the shrine and her recent involvement to identify servicemen and women from Surrey Hills and Mont Albert. In 1919 the two canons that flank the shrine were relocated from the Canterbury Sports Grounds and are known as Brooks babies. The origins of the guns may well be the subject of a future podcast. We also now have a Youtube channel. Just search for thanksforyourservice and you can find links on our website and Facebook page.. There is vision of the Shrine on our Youtube Channel. https://propertyplanning.com.au/propertyplannerbuyerprofessor/In this week's episode Dave, Cate and Pete take you through:Market update1. Handicaps for ‘subject' to clausesThe Property Buyer shares how agents are getting creative when dealing with a pool of buyers who don't want to submit unconditional offers. One particular agent is sharing a ‘handicap list' for ‘subject to' clauses. For example, his agency could factor in an additional $5,000 on top of the purchase price for a building and pest inspection, $10,000 for an extra 60 days before settlement, etc. The trio discuss the merits of this approach.2. House prices have fallen in 7% of Australian suburbsDuring the March peak rate of growth, only 1.4% of suburbs posted a decline in values. This has sharply risen to 7%. Mining towns and some regional markets have reflected some of the largest drops. However, markets at the higher end have also weakened. During the three months ending in October, house prices in some unexpected prestigious Melbourne suburbs of Armadale, Mont Albert and Blackburn posted declines of 0.5%, 0.4% and 0.1% respectively. The trio discuss whether this may be due to high rise building releases or lack of attention from foreign buyers while overseas travel and international migration is on hold. The A to E of Property SuccessA – Area (location is key)Picking a great location is critical! You can change the size of the block and the dwelling on top of it, but you cannot change the location. The trio discuss the features to target if capital growth is your aim. Although the pandemic has changed the way we do business, the CBD will offer the much-desired amenity and being close to a source of water and having a nice view can also increase capital growth prospects. We can't under-estimate people's love affair with their city reigniting as things open back up either.B - Bungalows (and other period styles)The trio discuss the pre-war properties that Australian's love and can't get enough of. They are in limited supply and have highly desirable features such as high ceilings, big rooms, timber floors and are solidly built. The scarcity factor drives competition and growth for these properties, and also makes them very difficult to place a ceiling value on. It is for this reason that many of these period stunners fetch record high prices under competition.C – Capital growth is King (or Queen)When it comes to residential property, most people make more money from capital growth than from yield. The power of compound growth means that a difference in 2% capital growth could equate to a $3M differential over the course of a full working lifetime for your retirement kitty. If you are looking for rental return, commercial property could be an attractive option. However commercial property is not as resilient to economic shocks as residential property, this is because people always need somewhere to live. We may see a shift, particularly in the CBD and other centres where commercial will convert to residential.D – Dirt (the value is in the land)The appreciating component of the property is in the land and as the trio discussed in episode 125, it's not about the size of the land but the value of the land. If you're looking at a development, you need to consider features other than size, like frontage and heritage overlays, (among many other facets).E – Equity (use it!)The power of capital growth is that the equity built up in your asset can then be used to leverage into further investments, whether that be purchasing another property or shares. Unlike rental return, which could be squandered with bad spending habits, capital growth cannot be spent!Visit the show notes - https://propertyplanning.com.au/the-a-to-e-of-property-success-area-and-how-location-is-key-bungalows-and-other-period-styles-that-australians-love-capital-growth-is-key/

Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 121 is an interview with Kirrily Dear from Run Against Violence, and Mark Grima, from Team One Zero Six's. For 19 days in 2017, solo ultra marathon runner, Kirrily Dear, ran 1300km from Broken Hill to Sydney to give a voice to the often silent victims of family violence. Family and domestic violence, whether physical or psychological, is increasingly being recognised as the social challenge of our time. Public conversation around the issue is building; however, we often overlook the children - those who hear and see the violence, or are directly targeted. Too often, these children don't have the chance to tell their own story. In 2017Kirrily asked the nation to stop and listen to these young people. Many people who experience family violence bear their pain in silence. They fear the stigma and social isolation that may result from speaking out about their experiences. Conversations break that silence and educate the community. People who experience violence can feel stigmatised and alone. They don't reach out for help for fear of their safety and what people will say and think. Every one of us has the power to change that. By starting conversations, we rip down those social barriers. That makes it much easier for people to ask for help and to heal from their experiences. Starting 30 August 2021, groups of up to 20 people can virtually walk or run 1300km from Broken Hill to Sydney. The route retraces the real-world 2017 StepsTogether Ultramarathon. More than 3000 people across the world have participated online in the Challenge. This year it is expected to be even bigger. I hope you enjoy this episode, so it would be wonderful if you could subscribe and write a review. This helps to boost the ratings of the show and thus increase its' audience reach. TIME magazine named Karnazes one of the '100 Most Influential People in the World.' An internationally acclaimed endurance athlete, he is the winner of an ESPN ESPY, a three-time winner of Competitor magazine's Endurance Sports Athlete of the Year award and the recipient of the President's Council on Sports Fitness & Nutrition Lifetime Achievement award. Dean has just put out his latest book ‘A Runner's High. Older, Wiser, Slower, Stronger.' The description of his book goes: “In A Runner's High, Karnazes chronicles his return to the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run in his mid-fifties after first completing the race decades ago. The Western States, infamous for its rugged terrain and extreme temperatures, becomes the most demanding competition of his life, a physical and emotional reckoning and a battle to stay true to one's purpose. Confronting his age, wearying body, career path and life choices, we see Karnazes as we never have before, raw and exposed. A Runner's High is both an endorphin-fuelled page-turner and a love letter to the sport from one of its most celebrated ambassadors.” I have just read this book and I have to agree with this!

The race starts in Black Canyon City at Rock Springs Cafe and traverses a continuous 250 mile point-to-point route, ending in Flagstaff, Arizona. Cover photo thanks to @howiesternphoto In this episode we discuss how her nutrition and hydration plan went, how much sleep she had and her high and low points. At the start of the conversation we discuss the height of Flagstaff, which Maggie said was 7,400ft which I then said was just over 3000m. Welcome to the podcast! Episode 107 is a Down Under 135 special! DU135 is renowned for being an extremely tough race; it has a high dropout rate, tough cut offs and long finish times. This year was no exception, with only two finishers! First was Nigel Hill in 52 hours and 36 minutes, followed by Tom Dade in 53 hours and 11 minutes. The race threw everything at them; steep ascents, slippery descents, off-trail sections and river crossings. The weather added another element, with driving rain and biting winds. In this special edition I chat with Tom Callum, one of the race organisers to find out about the genesis of the race and why they chose to make it so difficult. Then I speak with Nigel and Tom Dade to find out about their different race experiences. I really hope you enjoy this episode, even though it is a fair bit longer than my usual podcasts! Many thanks to the Eventurers for the use of their amazing photos! If you do enjoy this episode, please go on over to Apple podcasts to rate, review and subscribe. Dazrsv gave 5 stars and says ‘Great content: What a find for Oz content ,was hunting Dave Alley and your cast came up, have gone down Peak Endurance rabbit hole and may even think about a 48 hr track race in 2022. Welcome to the podcast! Episode 103 is an interview with me about my latest big run. I am joined by guest hosts Ron Tait and Tracey Davies, both whom were members of my crew. This was a really tough run for me and a totally new experience; further than I have ever gone before, and an individual challenge rather thana race. In this episode we delve into what motivated me to undertake this epic challenge, how I kept going when I wasn’t feeling the best, and what it takes to crew someone over such a long time. Since recording the interview, the course has been accepted as an official FKT course, and I now officially hold the record for Solo female, supported. I just love his outlook on these difficult and life-changing decisions. I really want to finish his book to find out more. Find Kay's website here Enjoy the interview with Kay!

Episode 93 is an interview with George Dyer. Over 11 days in June 2020, George ran over 560km to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. He started with a 100km run at Knox Athletics Track on 7 June and recently completed a ‘Great Train Run’, which saw him run the entire length of the metropolitan train network. The effort was inspired by the early passing of George’s mother, at age 60, from breast cancer. George decided to dedicate the month of June to fundraising, with his two daughters, Ashley and Taylor, who dyed their hair pink. I first heard about George through a friend of mine, Jodie Street. One of her friends has breast cancer and they ran a portion of one of his runs with him. Jodie and I were out running a few weeks ago and we passed George. We stopped to chat and when I heard about George’s run, I knew I had to interview him! In collaboration with Wild Earth, every month I will bring a short interview with Anderson (Ando) Moquiuti. He will keep us up to date on the latest gear for trail or ultra running, or pretty much any other adventure you could imagine! Our first interview is in this episode, I hope you find it interesting!
Episode 86 is an interview with the amazing athlete Maggie Guterl. Maggie made headlines when she won Big’s Backyard Ultra in 2019, a ‘last man standing’-style event run by Lazarus Lake (organiser of the infamous Barkley Marathons) which sees runners cover a 6.7km loop on repeat. Each lap must be completed within an hour and starts again on the hour and after that, it’s a battle to see which competitor outlasts the rest. Maggie completed 60 laps to cover a mind-boggling 402.5kms and win it outright – the first woman to do so. Maggie has also competed for Team USA at the IAU 24-Hour World Championships, she’s won the Brazos Bend 100-miler outright, come second at the Georgia Death Race and 8th at Western States, amongst other things. IN this interview we discuss her win at Bigs and what it will take to succeed at Barkley in 2021. I used to think that to get running injuries sorted, one needed to see a physio. How wrong was I! I have been seeing Luke Nelson, chiropractor at Health and High Performance in Mont Albert. Luek is a sports chiropractor who specialises in runners. He has been amazing at helping get on top of the niggles I have had since GSER back in 2019. Let Luke help you get on top of any niggles or injuries you may have now, so that you can enjoy running again and get back to preparing for the upcoming race season or just so that you run pain free! Come in and see Luke or any of the other specialists at Health and High Performance where they utilise the latest in technology, and experience, to help you get back to your running best. So, head to www.healthhp.com.au/run to book an appointment. I assure you, you won’t regret it! In the late 2000’s Box Hill Institute staff were converting their cassettes to CD when they stumbled across a strange cassette along with a Polaroid. All that was written in the inside cover was; ‘Saltman – Lessons in Suburban Life & Death’. Staff were intrigued to find out that ‘Saltman’ was never registered as a teacher and none of his students can be traced. The only reference on the recording is to an ex teacher, Chris Gafney who retired in 1999. Chris was contacted and only recalls sighting a tall blonde man loitering on the top floor of the Whitehorse road campus late at night talking to 3-4 Indonesian students, assuming he was either a cleaner or cheap security guard. All that’s left are these bizarre recordings, a man who is clearly living on the edge of the night and is heading towards insanity. His lessons are not only disturbing but enthralling and historical, giving us a glimpse into a lost world of the eastern suburbs.
