In this episode, we talk with Army Veteran Stephanie Lincoln, Founder of Fire Team Whiskey. When today's guest, Stephanie Lincoln, LPC was laid off from her government contract position she decided to pivot her skill set and create her own business. On this episode, Stephanie shares how soon after she was laid off, she received a phone call from a clinical connection that led her to working at a weight loss camp as the clinical director. And when she returned from the camp she then received a request to work with the Florida National Guard to help Soldiers get back into Warrior condition and from there her idea, Fire Team Whiskey, was born. With Fire Team Whiskey, Stephanie has created and published four unique eating plans, a specialized line of nutritional shakes, bars, and other performance supplements plus a fitness program that requires no equipment and minimal time. Fire Team Whiskey® encompasses all of the intangible things a Military Member and First Responder are driven by: Duty, Camaraderie and Mission. Stephanie created the very first and only heath and fitness program exclusively for Military Members, Veterans and First Responders. Stephanie talks about her journey to starting Fire Team Whiskey, the challenges she faced along the way, how she uses social media to grow her brand and why going for no is so important in business! This session I spoke with Stephanie Lincoln of Fire Team Whiskey. Stephanie is a former Captain in the Florida Army National Guard and is the founder of Fire Team Whiskey, the only nutrition and fitness program aimed at improving the health and wellness of America's fighting force. Stephanie takes us through her journey and how she went from a Guardsman, to running the Army National Guards Director of Psychological Health Program, to starting Fire Team Whiskey. She has some great inspiration and sage advice along the way.
Stephanie Lincoln is an Army Veteran, a Certified Personal Trainer, and Founder and CEO of Fire Team Whiskey Military Fitness. Stephanie spent 10 years in the Army and another 9 years working in the field of Military Medical and Mental Health. It was over her 19 years of service with the military that she noticed a steady significant decline in the physical health and fitness of the Military Members she was working with. Being a fitness instructor and an Eating Psychology specialist, she was inspired to research the best and most efficient ways of eating and working out that would work for any military service members living anywhere in the world. After a year and a half of research and development, she created the fitness and nutritional protocols of Fire Team Whiskey. Fire Team Whiskey launched to the public in July 2018. Captain Stephanie Lincoln spent 10 years in the US Army before transitioning out and starting her career in nutrition and fitness. Fire Team Whiskey came about after Steph saw how many soldiers were overweight and afflicted with so many health conditions like high blood pressure, injuries, etc. This trend isn't unique to the Army ( as much as we Marines would like to believe). All branches of the military have gotten fatter, following the trend of the US population in general. When Stephanie saw this happening to active duty military she sounded off with a resounding "Hell no!" and optimized her own fitness and nutrition before founding Fire Team Whiskey, an app-based personal fitness and nutrition service geared to help active duty and military veterans take charge of their health with a ketogenic approach to eating. I am taking the plunge into a high-fat eating template to get my body fat-adapted. Steph will be coming on the show each month to go over my progress with adapting a ketogenic nutrition approach as I am training up for Ironman Santa Rosa in May of 2019. In this episode we also cover eating disorders, specifically my own struggle with binge eating and purging. This encompasses both nutrition and mental health, which Stephanie points out is important to address with a mental health professional. Hey guys! I feel like I’ve had an increase in inflammation ever since I started on the keto diet in June 2017. I look more fat every day and I read that a high-fat diet increases endotoxins and increases gut permeability as well which leads to histamine production. But it’s the rise in one type of bacteria that produces an inflammation response that has me most concerned about a ketogenic diet. Should I be? Why or why not? Thanks in advance for your help with my question. Ysmenia STUDY: Low-fat diet could kill you, major study shows 1. Why am I experiencing prolonged diarrhea since adopting a ketogenic diet? Is there a way to remedy this? Hey Jimmy and Dr. Cole, Is there a keto-friendly remedy for diarrhea? I don't know if it's stress-related or bacterial, but I’ve had it for about a month which forced me to become carbolitic again! I’m eating rice, bread, oatmeal and as you can probably guess I'm hungry most of the time now. I throw in some fatty protein, too, but practically nothing green. Roughage seems to irritate my sensitive intestinal tract. But this diarrhea lasted for five weeks while eating keto and I was hoping it would just work itself out. As far as I know I’m not sick with a stomach bug or anything, but my tummy feels uncomfortable as the non-carby food is being digested. I’ve been popping probiotics like candy every single day, so I don’t know what could be going on. Please help. Mattie KEY QUOTE: “You get so frustrated by all the misinformation that you wonder if it will ever change. The good news is it is changing. Even five years ago nobody was talking about healthy saturated fats, and now it’s mainstream.” – Jimmy Moore 2. Why am I having constant hunger while eating a ketogenic diet with adequate calories and dietary fat? Hey guys, love your podcast! I'm an ER doc and 90% of what I see in the ER is 100 percent preventable through nutrition and other lifestyle modifications. My whole ER department is on the fasting bandwagon and many are LCHF! I’ve been eating this way for five years and incorporate regular periods of intermittent fasting of 16-20 daily. I even ran in the Boston marathon with just water. So surely I’m fat-adapted. I recently switched over to keto for cancer and dementia prevention but now I have a problem—I’m CONSTANTLY hungry. I consume well over my usual 2500 calories which includes 200g healthy fats. I’m doing yoga and keep my net carbs under 20g daily. I’m 36 years old and have a normal BMI. But this hunger is excruciating and nothing seems to satisfy it. Will this eventually normalize? What’s odd is when I simply ate low-carb, high-fat that wasn’t ketogenic, I never felt this kind of hunger. Weird. Any thoughts? Thanks! Emmy 3. How does an older person who requires more protein in their diet to prevent muscle loss eat a ketogenic diet that moderates protein? Hi Jimmy and Dr. Cole, I’m a sedentary 70-year old man and I’ve read that older people need to be eating more protein (along with strength training) in order to counter any age-related muscle loss. But since going keto requires a more moderate protein intake, how can these be done? Thanks for all your good work. For example, when someone gains weight are they getting new fat cells or are the existing ones just getting bigger? Also, I've heard you talk about sick fat cells that get better when people adopt a ketogenic diet, but can you go into more detail about how exactly that works?
