Nori Jabba joins Yo to discuss her book Keeping Your Seat at the Table, A memoir and guide on Regaining Confidence in Middle Age. Together they explore ageism, strategic partnerships and hero lists. Nori explains the many aspects of The Table as a theme throughout her book. There were so many cleaver table uses like “Flip The Table”, “Don't Table Yourself”, “Don't Get Pulled Under the Table” discussed in the episode. Nori's story is sure to be inspirational no matter your age! Here are the 3 Episode Takeaways: 1. Ageism is real so don't “table” yourself: take your seat at the head of your own table and surround yourself with your peeps (aka strategic partners). 2. The worry about money is real: factor this into your career planning as early as you can. 3. Be courageous: put your graduation years on your resume! We hope you'll enjoy this episode! As mentioned in the episode: Nori's book, Keeping Your Seat at the Table More about Nori: Nori Jabba grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has had a career spanning more than 30 years in corporate real estate and community development. Her book, KEEPING YOUR SEAT AT THE TABLE, is a memoir and guide on regaining confidence in middle age. She wrote the book when she could not land a job, abandoned her job search, and embarked on a quest to find out what was really going on and whether ageism was real. She landed the job she was looking for while writing the book. She is passionate about mentoring women, including her three grown daughters, and writes to empower and inspire others. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this episode, we talk with pastor and activist Carlos Rodríguez about leveraging our votes for the sake of those on the margins, being willing to have conversations and debates with those we deeply disagree with, and not allowing our political beliefs to insulate and isolate us from those who are experiencing the pain of broken policies. With both joy and deep conviction, Carlos invites us not just to flip tables, but to go and build better ones. I sat down with Brent Dehart from KYKN Radio in Keizer, Oregon, who interviewed ME…..and he got me to talk about things like what lessons can you learn from failing, and what my biggest failure has been, why I get bored so easily, how passion plays a role in starting a business, when do you know it’s time to sell your business, or let go of it because it’s dying a slow death. We also talk about my upcoming book “Customer Service Is DEAD: Delivering 6-Star Service In A 1-Star World”, due out this s
This is the episode where we talk about video games most of the time, take a break to get deep, then go back to video games again.
It has been said that attitude is everything. Whether this is true in everything, it is certainly so regarding our obedience to God. As we finish Nehemiah, we have seen what God is trying to build into our community and into us as people. Even if attitude is not everything, it is the foundation for how we live the Christian life. Background: On same day that Nehemiah's community celebrated finishing the wall, they also made it a point to read from the Scriptures. They discovered that they had some problems regarding their attitude toward obeying God. They had several attitude problems that once addressed would lead to the reform found in chapters 8-10. Fast forward in time, this reform would not last and Nehemiah would be faced with these same attitudes during his 2nd term as governor. We see from Nehemiah 13 four attitudes that must be confronted in our lives that can lead to reform in our communities. Big Idea: 4 attitudes that need to be confronted in our Christian communities (Nehemiah 13)

It is due time to unleash the wrath our ancestors have been carrying against our oppressors. The #BothamJean case unraveled the ever present passiveness given to white people when it comes to their accountability (or lack thereof) to the trauma they inflict upon black people. It is time to flip the table. On this episode, I also discuss the biased beauty standard placed in society leaving black girls with kinky hair to feel inadequate. And I share my thoughts on the lack of agency black women have over their bodies because of dangerous rhetoric like "soul ties." Thanks, Erica Campbell. I know its Wednesday. Yesterday I went to 29rooms in Toronto. The @thehoodwitch had an installation there that I needed to see. Today I want to talk about the adage "its chess NOT checkers" People love to say that shit. Don't even own a chessboard, nor can you name the MF pieces. How about stop playing the games? How about you identify a game and walk into the room....then flip the table over. You don't have to play. Let them pick all the unidentified pieces up off the floor. You walk out with your sanity. Happy Autumn Equinox yall.
