Nyomi is 15 days into her 30 Hard challenge, and tonight she gets REAL about what discipline actually means. On Day 13, her body shut down. She had a choice: restart at Day 1 or repeat Day 14 and continue. She chose to honor the work she'd already done and keep moving forward. This episode explores the difference between perfectionism and REAL discipline - it's not about being perfect, it's about being RESILIENT. It's about continuing when you fall, not erasing your progress.Nyomi shares the powerful story of a man who walked from Philadelphia to Los Angeles to raise money for a school, got hit by a car during the journey, and kept going. That's what real discipline looks like.If you've ever thought about restarting instead of continuing, if you've been knocked down and wondered if it's worth getting back up, if you're learning what real discipline means - this episode is for you.KEY TOPICS & MOMENTS:✓ 15 days into 30 Hard challenge✓ Day 13 body shutdown (post-explant surgery healing journey)✓ The choice: restart at Day 1 or repeat Day 14✓ Nyomi chose to CONTINUE and honor the 13 days of work✓ What she did on Day 14 (pull exercises, eating right, continuing)✓ Day 15 moving forward✓ The Philadelphia to Los Angeles walker (100-day goal, got hit by car, kept going)✓ Discipline vs. Perfectionism✓ Resilience as the core of real discipline✓ Honoring your progress (not erasing it)✓ Getting up where you fall✓ The importance of "your why"✓ Not being afraid to work hard to find out how great you can be✓ Morning rituals (shower, altar, prayer, meditation, journaling)✓ Understanding that things happen (unforeseen circumstances)✓ Continuing forward vs. starting completely over✓ The quote: "Don't be afraid to work hard enough to find out how great you can really be"✓ Community wisdom (callers shared their experiences with starting/stopping)✓ Self-love isn't about perfection✓ Healing journey awareness✓ Discipline in real life (when podcasts interrupt morning rituals, etc.)THE CORE MESSAGE:"Discipline is so sexy, but not because it's perfect, but because it's RESILIENT.Because it continues. Randy Crabtree and Terrell Turner team up to co-host Episode 276 of The Unique CPA, previewing what's coming July 28th at Bridging the Gap 2026 in Charlotte. Four years in, the conference has moved past simply naming burnout and connection as problems worth discussing, with the focus now turning to implementation: accountability structures, longer workshop formats, and the potential for speakers to linger and chat with attendees in the future instead of disappearing once their time on stage is over. Tying directly into a session on loneliness at the top, Terrell reflects on his newly promoted manager, who quietly absorbed weeks of team burnout rather than raise it, feeling exactly the kind of isolation hits so many leaders, and reminding him how topical and on the nose BTG is every year. There's a session Randy's son is speaking at, which he'll admit up front he's a little biased about, and when talk turns to the gala's NASCAR theme, "The Winner's Circle," they decide that there will be multiple winners this year, with scores of folks playing the roles of pit crew to each other, all of them just trying to help the next person get further down the road. On episode 1206 of Daytime Confidential, Luke Kerr, Jillian Bowe, Joshua Baldwin and Melodie Aikels dish the latest Beyond the Gates, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless headlines and storylines. The DC crew remember J Bernard Jones, who passed away this past week. A Daytime Confidential writer and podcast regular during the early years, J Bernard left an unforgettable mark in the world of soap opera commentary. In late 2025, Jones returned to the podcast for a special Daytime Confidential Reflections episode and shared his thoughts on the current state of soups and the health challenges he'd faced down. It was a wonderful episode and anyone who misses his prescence in the soap opera community should listen to it. Kat donates her organ to save Eva on Beyond the Gates and while still "under" she experiences a "What if" nightmare where she finds herself in Eva's shoes. Many soap fans, including Luke, felt the show was making Kat more evil than she really is, but Melodie has a very different take on went down. Last week, the DC co-hosts noted that Juneteenth wasn't mentioned during the big disaster event and wondered whether we'd see it this week. There wasn't a peep. Is it odd that BTG didn't mention Juneteenth when Days of Our Lives has integrated it into its storylines so well? Logan vs. Forrester is delivering juicy drama and the feud between Katie and Brooke has Donna caught in the middle. Is The Bold and the Beautiful the most improved soap opera of 2026? Is Days of Our Lives getting lost in the weeds with the Liam Selejko storyline and how it connects to Holly's overdose and viewers finding out that everything bad is connected to EJ and a batch of bad pills that were buried on Horton island. DAYS delivers all the great flashbacks for Deidre Hall's anniversary with the show. Anna DeVane is back on General Hospital. From Drew to BLQ, at least four different Quartermaines are gunning for Willow. Will she go down because of one of the Q's? Luke really enjoyed the Carly and Lucas scenes this week. Josh Griffith is OUT at The Young and the Restless and no tears are being shed on the podcast. After gutting the writing team and making the No. 1 soap opera nearly unrecognizable, we are ready for a new era at Y&R. Should CBS consider an interim head writer while an exhastive search is made to find Griffith's replacement? Someone to wrap up Josh's storylines and set the table for a new head writer. On episode 1204 of Daytime Confidential, Luke Kerr, Jillian Bowe and Melodie Aikels take a deep dive into the Beyond the Gates' disaster spectacular that brought The Young and the Restless' Newmans, Abbotts and Winters to Fairmont Crest. The DC trio shares what stood out to them, before digging into the meaty drama of the past week. From Victor Newman's (Eric Braeden) arrival by helicopter to Jack (Peter Bergman) and Diane (Susan Walters) dodging Tomas (Alex Alegria) and Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Hayley's (Marquita Goings) chemistry, they delve into the Genoa City guests at Martin's (Brandon Claybon) fundraiser. Should Kyle visit Fairmont Crest again in the future or Hayley set her sights on Kyle after scoring a fortune from Bill? The Young and the Restless dropped the ball on aligning its storylines with the crossover's continuity. Before the fundraiser kicked off viewers finally learned the idenitity of The Impaler. Super Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) saved Abby (Melissa Ordway) from a chandelier cake topper, but why was he so front and center in the disaster? Why wasn't he kicked out instead of being allowed to hang around. Why is Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) so stupid? Kat (Colby Nixon) and Eva (Ambyr Michelle) trapped together provided great drama, but will anyone be on Kat's side when she doesn't want to donate a kidney to save her half-sister's life? Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) had some of the best singers of the event, but BTG still gave her moments of humanity as she searched for her missing daughter. Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Dani (Karla Mosley) had sex in the elevator, but what does this mean for Dani and Andre (Sean Freeman)? Should BTG tell a who's the daddy storyline or should they leave a baby out of the picture? Andre professing his fear of losing Dani tore the DC hosts apart. Does Bill want back in the Dupree family? Martin went from being trapped under a tree to an asshole in the blink of an eye. A couple characters' wigs and eyebrows distracted the hosts from the drama. The tornado event definitely provided an opportunity for some actors to step up, while other actors stumbled under the weight of the special episodes. The hosts reveal their final thoughts on the Beyond the Gates / The Young and the Restless disaster crossover before rating the event. All this and more on the latest Daytime Confidential podcast! Randy is put in the unusual position of being a guest on his own show at Bridging the Gap 2025, as Terrell Turner sits down with him just hours after a keynote that left much of the room in tears. On Episode 273 of The Unique CPA, our final entry in this special BTG series, Randy talks about his speech, which was years in the making and drew on pivotal moments from Randy's early career, including a firm where he was nothing more to them than a billable hour and the contrasting leadership that shaped everything that came after. There's also a lot of focus on BTG itself and what it's grown into. At the heart of it all is Randy's conviction that accounting can be the greatest profession there is, and that changing the culture, not just the workflows, is how we get there. Recorded live at Bridging the Gap 2025 in Denver, Randy Crabtree sits down with founder of LiveCA, tech commentator, and full-time glamper Chad Davis for a wide-ranging conversation that captures exactly what makes BTG different from every other conference on the calendar. On Episode 271 of The Unique CPA, Chad talks about why he rerouted his entire week just to be there, and the two get into the real tension Randy is wrestling with: how do you grow something without killing the thing that made it worth growing in the first place? Shifting to Chad's upcoming session on what accountants should actually care about in tech right now, they discuss the mental health dimension of overwhelm that rarely gets named, and why having an operating framework like EOS changes what you actually do with the ideas you pick up at a conference. A candid and camp-themed conversation. Get the full show notes and more resources at TheUniqueCPA.com

A voting announcement that will go to our live listeners first! We discuss the Soaps, BTG heads to the past when Hayley first came to town. Katie made sure Brooke knew she wasn't to be messed with. Liesl has had it with Nina cuddling Willow. Can Julie fall for Foster? or is it a betrayal to Doug? Phyllis gives Newman Enterprises back so where does she go from here?
Recorded live at Bridging the Gap 2025, Terrell sits down with Questian Telka, co-host of the She Counts Podcast and a late-diagnosed ADHDer, for a conversation that goes well beyond the typical conference interview. On Episode 270 of The Unique CPA, Questian talks candidly about what it meant to finally receive her diagnosis as an adult, the moment she describes as "my whole life makes sense to me now," and how understanding her own brain became less about labeling herself and more about having a user manual. She moderated a panel at BTG where three highly successful CPAs reframed ADHD not as something they succeeded in spite of, but often because of, like a "superpower." It's a perfect example of what Bridging the Gap does differently from other accounting conferences, and why the profession needs these conversations happening at all times, not just once a year in a hotel ballroom. Episode 78 The Body Speaks in Symptoms — Here's How to Translate ItYou've had the tests. You've seen the doctors. You've been told everything looks normal. But you still feel it — every single day. The exhaustion that no amount of sleep touches. The heaviness in your body that no one can explain. The anxiety humming in the background, the digestion that's always unpredictable, the sleep that happens but never fully restores you.You are not imagining it. You are not broken. And you are not out of options.Your symptoms are not random. They are your body's language — a constant stream of information about what's happening beneath the surface. The problem isn't that the message isn't there. The problem is that most of us were never given the tools to translate it.In this episode of Connecting with the Thom's, Julie sits down with Dr. Thom to do exactly that. They take the most common, frustrating, hardest-to-explain symptoms and show you what the body is actually communicating — and why two specific diagnostics, BIA and HRV, can finally make that language visible. In this episode we cover:Fatigue that sleep doesn't fix — what's actually happening at a cellular level and why rest alone will never be enough to resolve itThe puffiness, heaviness, and bloating nobody can explain — what your body's fluid balance is telling you about inflammation you likely didn't know you hadAnxiety with no cause, sleep that doesn't restore, and digestion that's always off — why these three things are almost always the same problem wearing different masksThe questions to ask your health practitioner to move the needle and finally get answers — including what most appointments never have time to exploreThis episode is for you if:Your labs are normal but you still feel terribleYou've tried many approaches and nothing seems to holdYou feel like your body is overreacting to everything — stress, food, treatment, daily lifeYou've been exhausted for so long it's started to feel like just who you areYou want to walk into your next appointment knowing exactly what to askYour body has not been failing you. It has been talking to you. This episode will help you start to understand what it's been saying.
Continuing the conversation at Bridging the Gap 2025 in Denver, Randy Crabtree sits down with Krystal Joiner from the conference's marketing team on Episode 269 of The Unique CPA for an honest look at what goes into making BTG what it is. Krystal talks through the months of behind-the-scenes planning that attendees never see, and why the relaxed, connected energy on the conference floor doesn't happen by accident. The tone, she explains, gets set long before anyone lands in Denver, through social media, sponsor relationships, and every touchpoint along the way. There's also a candid moment about what it feels like to finally arrive at an event you've spent half a year building. With BTG Charlotte on the horizon, Krystal is confident the best is still to come: "We just get better." Get the full show notes and more resources at TheUniqueCPA.com

Recorded live at Bridging the Gap 2025 in Denver, Terrell Turner sits down with wealth advisor and speaker Rory Henry on Episode 268 of The Unique CPA to talk about what he calls "return on relationship." "ROR" is the idea that when you genuinely invest in understanding the people you serve, the ROI takes care of itself. Rory makes a compelling case that the real work of financial professionals isn't in the numbers at all, but in the questions: What are your best hopes? What does your ideal life actually look like? Drawing on behavioral finance and values-based planning, he argues that money is rarely the point, but rather, meaning and wellbeing are. The conversation also takes in the energy of BTG 2025 itself, the growing wave of new talent in the profession, and why Rory is convinced that in-person connection remains one of the most underrated growth strategies available to any practice. Recorded live at Bridging the Gap 2025, Terrell Turner sits down with Chayton Farlee, a Gen Z accountant whose first-ever conference was Bridging the Gap itself, on Episode 266 of The Unique CPA. What started as a LinkedIn ad turned into a career-defining experience, and Chayton has been vocal about BTG ever since. He makes a pointed case to Terrell for why accounting firm owners should stop sleeping on Gen Z talent, not just for their comfort with AI and automation, but for the energy and outside-in perspective they bring to firms that have been doing things the same way for decades. Chayton moderated a "Gen Z Effect" panel at BTG 2025, where he gave firm owners a frank look at what it's actually like to be a young person entering the profession right now, and why the opportunity to tap into that talent pool is bigger than most realize.

Recorded live at Bridging the Gap 2025 in Denver, Randy Crabtree sits down with Nancy McClelland—CPA, community builder, and self-described member of the BTG "hive mind"—to talk about what keeps drawing her back to the conference year after year on Episode 263 of The Unique CPA. Nancy is candid about the real challenges of running a sustainable firm and how BTG gave her not just ideas, but permission to act on them. She also talks through the two sessions she ran at BTG 2025: one on effective collaboration between bookkeepers and tax pros, drawing directly on what she hears inside Ask A CPA, and another on reasonable S corp compensation that managed to make a technical audit topic feel like an advisory opportunity. It's no surprise, but Nancy brings the same openness and practicality to this conversation that she brings to everything else she contributes to the profession.
