Rætt er við Lennart Keizer flugmann á Boeing 737 hjá KLM, en hann byrjaði sinn flugmannsferil hjá Icelandair árið 2017 þegar Icelandair réð nokkurn hóp erlendra flugmanna til starfa hjá félaginu. Lennart flutti aftur til heimalandsins í fyrra þegar honum bauðst vinna hjá KLM og er í dag með heimahöfn á Schiphol í Amsterdam, þar sem viðtalið var tekið upp. Lennart lærði flugvirkjun og verkfræði og vann ýmist störf tengd fluginu áður en hann lét af því verða að læra til atvinnuflugmanns. Hann var kominn á fertugsaldur þegar honum bauðst flugmannsstaða hjá Icelandair á Boeing 757 fyrir um 7 árum síðan. Hollendingurinn segir hér frá upplifuninni að koma til Íslands til að vinna sem flugmaður. Spjallað er um muninn á flugrekstri KLM og Icelandair, kosti og galla og af hverju Lennart valdi að snúa aftur heim til Hollands á þessum tímapunkti á ferlinum. Upptakan fór fram í Amsterdam í byrjun desember 2025.

The recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize, she later earned an MA in English and Creative Writing (Poetry) at Stanford University and a PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. She is the author of Black Subjects: Identity Formation in the Contemporary Narrative of Slavery (Cornell UP), and her poems and articles have appeared in African American Review, American Literature, The Kenyon Review, Obsidian: Literature and Arts in the African Diaspora, PMLA, Poem-a-Day, TriQuarterly, and other venues. Fraternal Light: On Painting While Black, her collection of poems about the African American painter Beauford Delaney, won the 2022 Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize and was published in 2023 by the Kent State University Press. Fausto is a young man who embodies the principle of making the effort. He lives with intentionality — choosing every day to show up, serve others, and grow into the person God designed him to be. Op 13 oktober in het jaar 54 wordt keizer Claudius vermoord door zijn echtgenote Julia Agrippina. Claudius werd uitgeroepen tot keizer nadat zijn voorganger Caligula werd vermoord. De Pretoriaanse garde vermoordde keizer Caligula omdat die steeds gekker werd en steeds vaker dingen riep als dat hij zijn paard zou benoemen tot consul. Caligula gaf ook veel te veel geld uit, vooral aan flauwekul zoals tempels gewijd aan hemzelf en een twee kilomter lange zwevende brug voor zijn paard. Wat kan ik zeggen, de man hield van zijn paard. Als Caligula wordt vermoord breekt er chaos uit in het paleis waar ook zijn oom, Claudius woonde. Claudius had zich in de chaos achter een gordijn verstopt en wordt daar gevonden door een van de wachten. Hij denkt dat ze hem wel zullen vermoorden, maar in plaats daarvan roepen ze hem uit tot Keizer. Deze Claudius zou later onsterfelijk worden dankzij een van mijn absolute lievelingsboeken: I, Claudius! Hij was mank en doof en stotterde en daarom dacht iedereen dat hij niet wijs was en nam niemand de moeite om hem te vermoorden. Hij wordt keizer na Caligula en doet dat eigenlijk uitstekend. Zijn enige grote vergissing is om met Julia Agrippina te trouwen. Het is ook creepy, want Julia Agrippina is de zus van Caligula en dus Claudius zijn nichtje... Daarna komt de fatale vergissing, namelijk om Agrippina's zoon Nero te adopteren. Agrippina vergiftigt op 13 oktober 54 haar man Claudius, volgens Tacitus met paddestoelen, zodat Nero daarna keizer kan worden. The new school year means that once again some kids are walking or biking through neighborhoods and on busy streets to get to class. Safe Routes to School is a nationwide, federally funded initiative that works to educate and encourage students to bike and walk to school safely. There are Safe Routes to School programs across Oregon, including one serving students in the Salem-Keizer School District. The Salem-Keizer Safe Routes to School program started five years ago, but because of the pandemic, and the inability to reach students in schools, it didn’t really take off until fall 2022 when Beth Schmidt was hired to lead it. Since then, Schmidt has worked with the district and other partners to teach bus, pedestrian and bike safety, including PE classes that started last year in partnership with Cycle Oregon to help kids learn how to ride bikes and follow the rules of the road. Next month, the Portland-based nonprofit The Street Trust will be giving Schmidt an award for her efforts to advocate for the successful passage of SB 450, which Gov. Tina Kotek signed into law in June. It designates Nov. 14 as Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day in Oregon to honor Bridges’ courage in helping end school segregation in the U.S. Schmidt joins us to talk about her work in Salem and Keizer to make streets safer for students.

I'm really excited to bring to the world episode #288, which features Derek Keizer, the head boys basketball coach at perhaps Iowa's most storied boys program, Western Christian (Hull). In this episode, Keizer details his basketball journey from coming to Western as an AC as Dordt College, going "back to back", 65Six Basketball, offensive transition, giving responsibilities to AC's and much more! This was a really fun podcast to discuss the ins and outs of taking over one of the most prestigious programs in the state of Iowa!

Some of Oregon’s largest school districts are facing cuts this year, including Portland Public Schools, Eugene 4J School District and the Beaverton School District. However, Oregon’s second-largest school district, Salem-Keizer Public Schools, is looking to spend more. Superintendent Andrea Castañeda shared a proposal last week that aims to increase the budget to invest more in mental health and special education. This comes after last year’s dramatic cuts that led to nearly 100 layoffs. Castañeda joins us to share more about her budget proposal and what the district's budget could look like in the future.
