Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Lou Gagliardi emailed: "Hi Marc, You ask people to email you to tell you what they're doing when they listen to the show. Sadly, I have no pictures to show but some good news to share I've been researching my family history and can proudly say that I've been finding lots of Irish, Scottish and even Welsh ancestry. I have no problem sharing the names - - Moon, Dunseath, Lowrie, Thomson, Dunn, etc. So your show helps me connect, in a way, to family long lost physically but coming to me in a spiritual and emotional way. Thanks and keep up the great work! " John Thompson wrote about episode #581: "Hey Marc, Just listened to the Irish & Celtic Music podcast episode 581 and I had a question. One of the last tracks was by Bren Holmes - - a song called SOS. This is a cover song originally written and performed by the Swedish pop group ABBA around 1975 (yeah, I'm that old). I thought you had a policy about not playing covers as they're not "pod safe". It's a great song and I've heard MANY great covers performed at various festivals by various bands. It would be fantastic if you could play more but don't want you to get into any kind of trouble. I'm not quite sure how that works. If you could explain it briefly for your listeners maybe it would clear up the confusion." George Mears emailed: "Marc, I've been a listener since the early days and a patron for several years. The podcast has been my companion for road trips, yard work, construction projects, and career changes; also raising two sons and all the changes 17 years brings. I've written a few times, including in 2018 when my sister and I had our own Celtic Invasion of Scotland after the death of our parents, which you shared with my fellow listeners, thank you. I took a deep stroll through the podcast archive recently, going back to selected episodes through the years. While the music has always been wonderful, it was insightful to hear the difference in your voice, energy, and personal topics from those days. Your podcast has been a shared experience for we, the listeners. Thank you for the virtual weekly meet - up that has brought so much joy. I'll be among your patrons for the next 17 years. Slainte!"
Help produce Basic Folk by contributing at https://basicfolk.com/donate/Known as one of the foremost fiddlers of her generation, Lissa Schneckenburger's latest release is a huge left turn for the Vermont resident. Thunder in My Arms is unique because Lissa is not only singing her own compositions, but the subject matter is hugely personal. The album chronicles her experiences adopting her son. Through the fostering and adoption process, she came across resources, workshops and books, but no music that specifically was about this experience. Since she processes hard things through music, she decided to step up and create this album for her family and for those in the adoption and fostering communities. Lissa thrives and lives in the community through music, so creating and reaching out to this new community came as second nature.Born and raised in rural Maine, Lissa grew up around music and started on the fiddle at five years old. She competed in fiddle competitions, went to Maine Fiddle Camp and the much revered Valley of the Moon Camp in Northern California. Arriving in Boston for school at New England Conservatory of Music, she found herself among a familiar group of musicians that she'd grown up with at the camps. She teamed up with Laura Cortese, Hanneke Cassel and Flynn Cohen to form the seminal Boston fiddle group Halali, which inspired so many young players and ignited a fiddle renaissance in town. Since then, she has released solo albums and been a part of groups like Low Lily. She now lives in Brattleboro, VT with her son and her husband, in-demand upright bassist Corey DiMario (Crooked Still). Lissa has a new fiddle album on the way in 2023, which you can pre-order right from the lady herself. Enjoy Lissa!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Alexander Randall 5th emailed: “Marc: I was delighted to hear the Achendoun set by Chivalrous Crickets. Their handling of the Bonnie Prince Charlie March is the best I have ever heard. It is so energetic that I began to think, "If I were on my death bed, I'd want to hear this. If my hand taps my thigh, then I am still alive, but if not, then I am dead." This got me to thinking what would my "deathbed playlist" include? If I am in hospice and on the verge of death and a band were to come into my room to play music, what would I want on that list? The Chivalrous Crickets playing this Auchendoun set would top the list. St. Anne's Reel would be next. Capricalle playing Argyle Ladies is third... Miller's Maggot All from your podcast!!! I wish I could get a read on the third part of this attached tune. It starts as the humoresque and ends with one of the coolest riffs ever... The liner notes say "An Old Man Comes in and Sits Down" I wish I knew where to find other versions of this... Thank you for reading what your listeners say.” He followed that up with another email: “The Old Man Walks Into The Room And Sits Down' I found one recording of this by Celtic stone. DId anyone else record this?” Woodland Folk sent pictures of what he described as Eden. See those pictures in the shownotes.

Low Lily's latest album, "10,000 Days Like This," is pushing two years old. But its members, Flynn Cohen, Liz Simmons and Lissa Schneckenburger haven't been idle. In between projects, they work on solo efforts that, as Liz says "add to the palate that is the basis of Low Lily." Liz and I talked about her upcoming solo effort, and new music from the band as well as their show at Caffe Lena on Thursday, February 20th. And hear their Live @ EXT session that afternoon, too. https://youtu.be/lv9R60CSQ54
Flynn Cohen has toured the world with major Irish music acts and been a mainstay in the Irish and Bluegrass music scenes of New England. In many ways his path is a classic example of a folk musician growing up in the wake of the folk revival. In other ways it is a study in contradictions. In this episode Flynn shares his path discovering acoustic music through Led Zeppelin, Irish music while studying in America and Bluegrass while studying in England. The federal government is flying out of control. With Flynn, Cohen, & even legislation- deception, intrigue, & full on assault of the Constitution and the rule of law is the name of the game. That's why give it to you straight. Just truth & the Constitution. No pro-Trump - anti-Trump spin here! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-krisanne-hall-show/support

What’s up with Irish ‘backing’? How does accompaniment fit in the melodic Irish tradition, and how does it feel to invent chords for Irish tunes and songs? Accompanists Matt Heaton, Neil Pearlman, Keith Murphy, and John Doyle talk about share their thoughts on culture, conversation, and the role that guitar, bouzouki, piano, and harp (and flow state) play in Irish music. There’s plenty of music here, too. Credits below. * * * * * * * Special thanks to Patrick O’Leary, Art Costa, Paul Willson, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council for supporting this episode.
