The Philadelphia Phillies are facing a number of offensive issues and challenges. Is it panic time as this team starts to now struggle at the plate? This week, Destiny Lugardo from PhilliesNation.com joined us for great and in-depth discussion about this Phillies team and where they're at here in April. It was a great discussion! But first, the guys dove into some Philly sports history from this week. (Approx. 5:50)From there, the guys dove into how Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Time's top-100 most influential people in 2025. (Approx. 11:25)Then the guys discussed dished out some end of season Sixers Awards and Trophies. (Approx. 21:20)The guys then talked about the Phillies challenges they're now facing offensively. (Approx. 43:21)What they threw down on the Table this week was a fantastic and in-depth discussion with Destiny Lugardo from Phillies Nation about how this team just isn't hitting well, especially with runners in scoring position. How can the Phillies and key members of the team fix their struggles? Is hitting coach Kevin Long's job in jeopardy? Dissecting Brandon Marsh's troubles at the plate. What should we be making of Zack Wheeler's not-so-good-looking ERA at the moment? All of this and much more this week on the Table! An album pin is a lapel pin with artwork inspired by a specific album or song from an album. It could be the actual album artwork or it could be inspired by a specific track on the album. The best album pins stand out on their own. They appeal to more than just your fans. It is simple, bold, and visually engaging. However, what truly makes it an “album pin” is that the purchaser also gets a digital album with their pin. I have an entire blog on my website with details including templates for you to make your own album pin jacket.

We talk about Turner's spring and comments hitting coach Kevin Long recently made about Turner's performance in Florida.Would Bryce Harper really move to the outfield this season, if the Phillies can acquire a power-hitting first baseman? THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! Lads, lasses, and leprechauns of good taste—have I told you lately that you're absolutely legendary? You are the heartbeat of this podcast, the reason I spend my days swimming in Celtic tunes instead of, I dunno, training for a competitive Guinness - drinking contest (which I'd obviously win). And it's all thanks to you. Your support isn't just appreciated—it's the very thing that keeps this show from running on sheer luck and leftover whiskey fumes. You fund our genius sound engineer (who makes me sound like I actually know what I'm doing), the wizardly graphic designer, the tirelessly dedicated Celtic Music Magazine editor, and the promotional magic that spreads this music farther than a wandering Irish storyteller. Your generosity buys the music you love and gives me the time to carefully craft each episode—rather than just chucking in a tin whistle solo and hoping for the best. And as a patron, you're not just supporting the show—you're practically knighted by the Celtic music gods themselves. You get exclusive, ad - free, music - only episodes before anyone else (because you're fancy like that). You help shape the Celtic Top 20 with your votes. You unlock free music downloads, sheet music, and your very own private feed to listen your way—whether through Patreon or your favorite podcast app. All this for just $3 a month. That's right—less than the cost of one fancy coffee (or roughly 0.003% the cost of a pint in Dublin on St. Patrick's Day). And yet, that tiny sum keeps the music alive, keeps the community thriving, and keeps you at the very heart of it all. So join us today! Let's keep this music going forever—or at least until we all get distracted by a parade and a questionable amount of irish whiskey.

Peter Wood emailed about Stubby Shillelaghs: "Hi Mark, I wrote a few years ago about playing the show with my wife in the car on dates and on our wedding day, and now we are expecting our first child. We don't listen to the show together much anymore, but when we go to the Renaissance Faire we played it (just missed you again!) and I put it on when we went for a swim on a summer evening when she wanted music without getting interrupted by YouTube Music ads. Since this year's Renaissance festival she's asked a few times for Tartanic when she's been in the mood for "my" music. Recently I was listening to a different podcast that plays novelty songs around a theme (Bitslap with KBC if you're curious), and the theme of the week was Drinking, so of course some Celtic - sounding music came up, and for part of a set I thought I was listening to your show! Of the two songs in particular that got me confused, the first was the Vodka Song by Stubby Shillelaghs (https://youtu.be/h9YRbJSbPw0) which I'm unsure if it or the band have ever been played on your show. It was followed by Sober on St. Patrick's Day, and at first I thought I might have heard it on your show, but then when it got going I realized it wouldn't have fit in on your family friendly show. Turns out it's by Psychostick. I know you've got ties to the FuMP collective so you're probably already aware of it. The Vodka Song at least would be a fun one to play if you've got the permission." Patrick Rieger emailed photos from Ohio Renaissance Festival: "Hi Marc, My family and I, along with our friend Chenna from Nashville, spent Labor Day Weekend at the Ohio Renaissance Festival, three days of faire. Ohio is a big faire with plenty of celtic musicians, but even with three days we didn't see them all. We did see Captain John Stout (aka Richard Brentar), Donal Hinely, The Harper and the Minstrel, The Toasted Clover, The Jackdaws, Bettina Baudville, Seán Nós, and The Lady Victoria. I had never heard of a nose harmonica until I met Bettina Baudville; that is what she is playing in the photo. Also I never heard celtic music played on a ukulele until I met The Toasted Clover. Donal Hinely was featured on the Renaissance Festival Podcast years ago when you were still a host, but until this year I had not seen or heard him in person." Despite three long days of working the faire, Victoria was able to join us for a quick dinner one night. And before the weekend was done, the four of us already planned to go back next year."

It's been so great hearing all of the independent artists you feature on the podcast. Thank you for what you all do and maybe one of these days I'll submit some of my music for your enjoyment as well. I'm blessed to have a job I love -  as a luthier at a music store in Kenosha WI. While I was working on this auto harp (just a cleaning and restringing as well as putting new support springs under some of the bars) I thought I should take a couple of pictures and send them your way. I thought you might appreciate it." Donald W White emailed a photo from Oregon: "I'm painting  -  -  as usual. I've appreciated Celtic music for a long time (loved Fiona Ritchie's former show on NPR  -  "Thistle & Shamrock"), but I just became a fan while sailing from Quebec to Boston. On a cruise ship of "old people," some amazing Canadian musicians (including Nova Scotia vilionist Hayley Ryerson) performed some raucous Celtic tunes from Cape Breton Island. I'm now hooked! Count me in. Don White, A new fan from Oregon " Wolbert van Wageningen emailed: "Hi Marc, My name is Wolbert van Wageningen. I live in the North of the Netherlands. Several years ago I started listening to your Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. I liked it a lot because of all the independent music. But sometimes it was a bit too independent according to my taste. I forgot to listen regularly and it got out of sight and mind. In the meantime I started working (volunteering) at a small regional broadcasting company in my hometown of Winsum. I got the possibility to make my own programmes and one of them I titled " Highlands and Islands" a reference to Scotland of course, but also a reference to the region where I live (het Hogeland  -  Highland) and the Waddensea with small islands. Due to illness I was not able to make the show in our radiostudio, but my homestudio was good enough to make broadcastings. I started broadcasting at Mixcloud and posted my recordings there. Looking for music I discovered your Irish and Celtic Music Podcast at Mixcloud. Nice surprise! Started listening again. Thought it would be nice to reach out to you. Want to make my compliments for your shows and your perseverance in making them. Way back you were in the 100 - 200 range; now almost 700!! I promoted your show to my small group of listeners (Celtic Folk is not that big in the Netherlands) and will do so in the future. Keep up the good work! Kind regards,"

Patrick Rieger emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, I feel like I have been slacking this summer sending you pictures after having sent so many. Celtic Pittsburgh hasn't been doing much the past few months though we do have plans in the works for an event in October. Meanwhile, the renaissance festival season for my family and I started when we attended the Great Lakes Medieval faire the weekend of July 27 and 28. It was a great weekend, and we needed time away from the daily routine. With life so busy for everyone we hardly see friends anymore, and this was a chance to see many of them. We were happy to find that our friend Captain John Stout, aka Richard Brentar, has returned to Great Lakes after having been absent for a few years. I'm not sure what I enjoy more, his music or his stories, he always has lots of great stories to tell. We also saw the Jackdaws, Celtic Mayhem, and Michael Manderen. Sadly we didn't make the shows of Menagerie Music this year but we did manage to catch up with Lisa from that duo. My family and I plus a couple of friends went to see John McCann and Hamish at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle in Pittsburgh on August 3. These two are a lot of fun and have great energy, and get the place jumping. I have seen them for 15 years, starting when they were part of the Corned Beef & Curry Band. Sadly that band broke up when one of the three decided to explore other musical paths. I'll be sending more pictures of Celtic musicians come September after trips to two more ren faires.  Until then, slainte!" Cheryl Arvio emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, Sorry these photos aren't better, but this is Socks in the Frying Pan from Friday night's show at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. Brilliant, as they always are! Bummed that they are not playing Milwaukee Irish Fest this year, but happy we got to see them (and pick up their new CD) in our hometown. Best,"

Last Sat (10/12), my wife and I participated in a Trunk or Treat that was hosted by the Shelby Country Humane Society and as you can see in the picture, we went heavily into a cat theme. I found a cat based trunk or treat kit that was cat centric, we took our Sphynx cat that we rescued through a TNR effort and added various cat base items inside the trunk area including pages from a Star Trek Cat calendar and my wife even dressed up as a cat where as I simply dressed as a TNRer. To top it all off, I even set up a speaker playing a cat song playlist consisting of your Whiskers in The Jar album and Lord of the Pounce. Unfortunately, everyone was so distracted by our cat, nobody noticed the music.  But we enjoyed it! ***Quick side note: on the episode web pages, every spot where you list the email address to send feedback to or band submissions, the ".net" is left off.***" Eric Guarin (gwa - reen) emailed: "Mark, I heard you mention a shortfall - I didn't catch the details, probably in a noisy environment. I've been listening since Episode 6, in multiple states and countries, from warm St. Lucia to cold Iceland to the Rock of Gibraltar, and on planes across both oceans. Thanks for all this! To help the shortfall I upped to the Song Henger tier; keep up the great music. Slainte, Larry Budd emailed: "Hey Mark: I just  shared your podcast with friends. WELCOME THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn. This podcast is for fans of Celtic music and maybe for those who have a hankering to travel to the Celtic nations like I do. It is here to build a diverse Celtic community and help the incredible artists who so generously share their music with you. If you hear music you love, please email artists to let them know you heard them on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. Musicians depend on your generosity to keep making music. So please find a way to support them. Buy a CD, Album Pin, Shirt, Digital Download, or join their communities on Patreon. You can find a link to all of the artists in the shownotes, along with show times, when you visit our website at celticmusicpodcast.com. Today's show is sponsored by Rie Sheridan Rose. Rie writes many things, but one of her favorite things to do is to create a new song and send it out in the world. Thanks to the brilliance of her musicians, they always sound lovely, even though she can't write a note of music. Rie was one of our generous supporters of our Kickstarter earlier this year. She's a fantastic writer and songwriter. In fact, I've set many of her poems to music. Half of my Firefly album, As Long As I'm Flyin' was written by Rie. Most of my album Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits, was written by her as well. She wrote ALL of the lyrics for my album, Pirates vs Dragons. She also wrote the song “Soul of a Harper” which I'll share today as well. Follow the link in the shownotes to learn more about Rie Sheridan Rose. You'll also find a link to her enormous collection of books and writings on Amazon. I am all packed and ready to fly to Scotland later this evening. I have one week in Scotland followed by a week visiting my mom in Italy. I'll try to post a blog on Patreon during the week to let you know how things are going and if we find any new favorite places to hike in Scotland. You can follow our Patreon page for free and get some blogs. If you are a Celtic musician or in a Celtic band, then please submit your band to be played on the podcast. You don't have to send in music or an EPK. You will get a free eBook called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music and learn how to follow the podcast. It's 100% free. Just email Email follow@bestcelticmusic and of course, listeners can learn how to subscribe to the podcast and get a free music - only episode. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! You are amazing. Russell Howell emailed: "Tractoring on our smallhold while listening! Really love the show, it is my companion anytime I am on the tractor or making mead!" Maura Goodin emailed: "Good afternoon, I didn't expect to be writing in to a podcast today, but I had yesterday's episode playing while I was working from home today and was pleasantly surprised by the second track you selected, by Keltricity; the set they were playing is all tunes that my dad, John Goodin, composed. He passed away two and a half years ago now. He was a mandolinist and guitarist, who composed a pretty wide range of music from dance tunes to classical pieces; the Classical Mandolin Society of America has preserved his website and blog at https://mandotopia.classicalmandolinsociety.org/, where he collected all his recordings and sheet music (much of it freely available under a Creative Commons license and maintained by CMSA). I see that Keltricity is from Louisville, which makes sense, as my dad was one of the founding members of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra before my family relocated to northeastern Iowa; he kept in touch with a lot of the local musicians and the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra actually played so many of his pieces that they ended up recording a CD of them (called, of course, "It's All Goodin"). The tunes Keltricity played in that set are all ones that were in the repertoire for my dad's contra dance band, Contratopia, and that recording featured some of his published harmony parts as well. Contratopia still regularly plays for dances here in Minneapolis where I live, at the same folk dance hall where my own band plays, so we're keeping up the music since he's gone. I'm not sure if you've ever played Contratopia on the show, sorry  -  -  I definitely haven't listened to the full back catalog of podcasts, though I've been an occasional listener for many years!  -  -  but I know you've played a track by another band that their pianist is in, Brass Lassie, so if you haven't checked their recordings out, you might like to! Their albums all have a mix of original tunes by band members and traditional tunes in Celtic and old - time styles. They used to tour the DC area contra dance scene and play for the Sunday afternoon all - waltzes dances there, so there's probably more than your average number of waltzes on their albums. Sorry for such a long email! Last bit of fun trivia as a thank - you, the "Maggie" in the tune name from that set is our old family dog, a border collie we had when I was little. (She predated the digital age or I'd include a photo!) My dad wrote so many tunes that he named them after anything he could think of (or just the day he wrote them, if he never got around to a proper name), so there's several named after our various pets. This set has another one named after Maggie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56neWaCahc4 I hope you have a good weekend, and thanks again for the great surprise!"

It's called Dancing With Hobbits. It's album of all original, hobbit - inspired dance tunes. If you saw the Lord of the Rings movies and heard the music during Bilbo Baggins' birthday party, then that should give you some idea. It's fun, upbeat Celtic dance tunes. It was recorded with Sam Gillogly on fiddle. Sam is no stranger to this podcast, having their own album of Classical Celtic music. But if you're heard a fiddle on any of my songs in the last 15 years, that was probably Sam. The album is listed under our band name Dancing With Hobbits. We didn't listen to the Podcast on that occasion ha ha but listened quite a bit while driving around 2400 - 2500 km from Portugal through Spain to the Basque tip of France and then Spain. We were lucky enough in this life to visit Ireland, summer of 2021. So so so so nice, we LOVED it. BUT due to COVID...no live music! Someday, we'll manage to get on an Invasion… Slainte,"       Mary L Deal emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, I'm sitting here messing around  with and printing 3d stuff listening to the latest podcast (Panxty Caper #664) and heard, again dang it, about this year's trip and was wondering if you know if you will be going back to Ireland next year. I would really like to join you on one of these trips. I went to Ireland around1995 with my Mom and would like to share that beautiful place and the people there with my daughter.  Sincerely," Geoffrey Huff sent a photo from Abilene, TX:

My wife, though she was born in the south of the country  -  its a small country : - )  -  also enjoys Celtic art, and suddenly our eldest son was playing Galician bag pipe, what came by a surprise because there's no tradition of instrument playing in our families. Jackie Wassilie emailed: “So..just listened to my first podcast..it was the absolute fastest hour! Totally entertaining in my early quiet morning hour. Awesomeness!” Ryan Weyls shared a photo from Wolfe Tones in Norwalk, CT on March 13: “Hi Marc, here's a photo of the Wolfe Tones from what they say is their last tour of the US. In a nod to our modern era, they had a keyboardist playing bass lines and synth strings, and a laptop was visible onstage as well. The Mac might have been for the slide show or a click track, or both. I'd prefer a live bassist but their extra man made it work with his Roland. Have a great weekend. Patrick Rieger emailed photos right before St Patrick's Day: “Hello Marc, Celtic Pittsburgh was part of the Saint Patrick's Day parade for the first time this year, and it was also my first parade on such a scale. I was part of two tiny parades for other occasions, but nothing like this. Pittsburgh Public Safety estimated 200,000 spectators would be lining the 1.4 miles route, and it certainly looked it. Emerging from under a railroad bridge to reach the start of the parade route and seeing the sides of the streets of downtown Pittsburgh packed with so many people cheering and whooping was a thrill. Some people were even watching from a parking garage. We had seven people marching. Three members marched, as well as some people who volunteered to march with us. Two people were from the Lady MacGregor Lodge #73 of the Daughters of Scotia based in Youngwood, PA. Besides groups honoring Irish and Celtic culture, there were other groups in the parade, including a Ghostbusters fan group. The radio program who interviewed Susan Borowski and I, The Saturday Light Brigade, asked people downtown for the parade to call in and let them know how the parade was going, so I called while we were waiting in the staging area. I have attached some photos, most to show the size of the crowd, and one of the reviewing stand.”

This St. Paddys I had to be in the hospital in which ill spend the next three weeks due to a chronik pain issue. I was able to sneak in a (light) pint tho and have my banjo with me. I sang some tunes at the nearby lake with noone but some frogs around and enjoyed the moment. I hope you had a good one too!  Greetz from Munich, Rusty!” Gerald Guinn of The Secret Commonwealth emailed a St Pats photo: “Hi Marc! Glad you had good St. Pat's/Birthday!  The Secret Commonwealth did as well. We had shows on all three days of the weekend, culminating with our 31st anniversary St. Pat's show at Cedar Glade Brews, in the "city of our birth", Murfreesboro, TN (see attached pic) Now it's on to finishing up album #5! We hope to have it out in early summer. Best!” Brenda Richardson sent a photo for St Patrick's Day: “I walked with a group from the YMCA in the 5K St Patrick's Day Race in Colorado Springs. We heard some Celtic music along our route!” Michael Maloney emailed a St Patrick's Day photo: “Morning Marc! Happy belated St. Patrick's Day and Birthday! I feel like I'm still recovering. I play solo at Hugh O'Neill's in Malden, and several shows with my bandmates, The Boston Harbor Bhoys (Waltham Sr. Center, Medford's Ford Tavern, Framingham Elks fundraiser, Quincy's Assembly, and Boston's Green Dragon). So many songs, so many memories. I loved playing Hugh O'Neill's, where a table of young people requested The Saw Doctor's "N17" and ran out from their tables on the refrain each time to shout out "and the grass is green!". To the Sr Center in Waltham where the ENTIRE room of 100 people got all the hand - claps right on "Wild Rover" by the 2nd refrain, and the beautiful emotions expressed from our rendition of Danny Boy. To guests at the Framingham elks getting up to do all the dance moves to "The unicorn song", to seeing old fans from the South Shore of Boston that we haven't seen in 4 years requesting "Raglan Road", to jumping around The Green Dragon with my harmonica and tambourine leading hand claps on 'Finnegan's Wake" getting the whole bar clapping together. Agh, it was all so wonderful, went through a range of song styles and eras in the Celtic music catalogue, and it was wonderful connecting with audiences from the 20's up to their 90's, who all appreciated the music and experience in their own ways. It was one for the books! “
