In this episode, Dr. Meghan Walker and I dive into the murky waters of health literacy and the sensationalized media that often leaves us puzzled. We're peeling back the curtain on the myths that cloud our understanding of birth control, revealing how historical and government influences shape our knowledge of health. This candid conversation goes beyond the front page to dissect the medical misinformation epidemic, stressing the need for stronger critical thinking to navigate the media's manipulative tactics. From acknowledging birth control's undeniable impact on women's autonomy to confronting its potential side effects, such as anxiety and depression, we're giving a voice to the diverse experiences of women. Dr. Walker and I also share our personal stories with birth control and how we plan on teaching our daughters about it too. 1-ON-1 w/Meghan Walker! - March 25th, 2024
By popular demand, I've decided to extend a travel series centered around the topic of building community or maintaining our need for social interactions when away from home. Community building is especially complicated when abroad, where cultures and languages vary considerably from our own. My guests today, veteran travelers with considerable expat experiences, are perfectly suited to discuss this topic. Meghan Walker, a previous guest who writes at awaytofi.com, spent many of her formative years living abroad in Kenya and New Zealand. Her husband, Callan Cooper, is an expat living in the United States from New Zealand, where they met. Meghan and Callan joined me in my home in Colorado for a rare in-person interview, where we discussed in detail the beauty and challenges of international extended travel, careers, evolving travel philosophies, and financial tactics that can have you living a similar life much sooner than you think. Useful for running, cleaning, cooking, organizing teacher resources and writing report cards (I'm a Kindergarten teacher)! I will be celebrating St Patrick's Day by playing my harp and listening to more inspiring tunes (a la the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast). Thanks for sharing! Go raibh maith agat!" Pronunciation: guh ruh mah a - gut Dennis O'Brien replied: "I listen while working on/planning my Dungeons & Dragons game for the week. On St. Patrick's Day I am cooking a meal for my wife's family - a tradition since we first started dating. We will also listen to the Dropkick Murphys concerts from years past, if they don't have one live on YouTube. We will be singing along - my wife's Irish born grandmother can't make it this year, but we WILL be making a phone call to far off Minnesota." Stacia Ahlfeld replied: "We'll probably be doing school while listening. My kids like Irish and Celtic music as much as me. I am hoping to go to a nearby town's St. Patrick's Day parade. The town's name is Ireland, so they kind of blow it up. We'll probably continue to listen to music, and I might tell some stories."

David Van Horn replied to a picture and funny song request: "Marc: One of my most favorites funny songs from you is “Beer, Beer, Beer.” I neglected to take a photo of the brisket. It was devoured quickly so no proof remains." Andrew Kruspe of Black Market Haggis replied: "Marc, Hello! First, I hope y'all are doing well, and that you had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day season. We did here, and we thought we would share some photos from a special event that we did at Lowe Mill in Huntsville. We had a “hands - on concert.” We played a 45 minute set, and then we passed out about 35 bodhráns and taught the audience how to play a reel. They then joined us for a tune! Maureen R replied: "St. Patrick's Day is a family day, starting with donuts, then Mass at St. Colman, one of the oldest churches in Cleveland, that for decades had supported a largely Irish immigrant neighborhood. This Mass is the start of the day for the West Side Irish American Club. The dignitaries and club marching units from pipes and drums to tiny pom pom "Bridgies" march into the church with all the regalia of the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Parts of Mass are read in Irish Gaelic, and familiar Irish songs and readings are shared. The lighting in the church is changed to green uplights and the hall is filled wall to wall with families in Irish sweaters and Irish pride. After Mass and the marching units parade out of the church, everyone heads to downtown Cleveland for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. and one of the only St. Patrick's Day parades that is always held ON the day. After the parade, families disperse to the many parties all around town. After marching in the parade, I will head off to entertain the crowds with my band, Ballinloch for the last performance of a two week non - stop Irish adventure."

Tom Morley emailed around St Patrick's Day: "Marc, Our Chattanooga - based band Stringer's Ridge played a concert on St. Patrick's Day at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. (I am there on the faculty at the famous folk arts school usually once a year teaching beginning or intermediate Irish Fiddle.) We had a wonderful crowd and it was a great way to spend the best Irish day of the year! I am enclosing several photos of us at the historic Keith House where we put on the concert. (Tom Morley - fiddle, Fran Morley - bodhran, Bryant Haynes - guitar) Thanks for all you do to promote Irish trad music!" STRINGER'S RIDGE Marilyn S. Hansen sent a photo about Easter Rising Band: "14 seminarians got together years ago in St. Louis and developed an Irish band. Most of them are married now. They play at each other's weddings, but they also have regular gigs. The interesting part is how their kids take part… This is last year‘s celebration. I was out of town this year celebrating my sister's birthday the day before St. Patrick's Day. Thought I'd send you last year's photo. I'll send you a few that they've sent to me for this year. EASTER RISING BAND Pete Watson emailed St Pat's photos: "Hi Marc, The Bookends had a fabulous time playing a number of shows throughout Ontario around St. Patrick's Day.Attached is a photo of Miriam (left) and Cait (right) on St. Paddy's Day for our gig at The Rec Room, Toronto, with our regular special guest bodhrán player extraordinaire, Romano Di Nillo.Romano is just back from 4+ years with Come From Away on Broadway and we were so glad to have him with us for these shows. The venue was handing out some "paddywhackery" to attendees and these 3 couldn't resist putting some on!" THE BOOKENDS-PETE WATSON Bruce Cummings, a Piper emailed a photo: "Hey Marc!Just to say how much I enjoy listening to the Celtic music you provide. You asked for pictures from St. Patrick's Day 2023, so here's a couple. I am part of the Lane Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums in Eugene Ore. We had a great weekend piping in the area.Keep up the good work!" BRUCE CUMMINGS PIPER Jim O'Connor of Boston Blackthorne emailed a photo: "Hi Marc -hope you had a fabulous holiday! Boston Blackthorne played 3 nights in Western MA, centered around St Patrick's Day as well as the big parade (the nation's oldest) in Holyoke MA.We played to crowded enthusiastic fans in Northampton MA and Holyoke MA.But perhaps the best gig (and story) was the one that arose spontaneously back in the lobby of our hotel after our St Pat's evening show. The hotel lobby is most frequently empty but this night is was crowded with about 100 boisterous folks from Minnesota, visiting Massachusetts to support a Women's college Hockey team. We were approached by the unofficial spokesperson who pointed at our guitar and fiddle and asked, “Can you really play those?” I answered of course we can, and this is your lucky night! Not only has your party been invaded by musicians, we are an Irish band and this is St Patrick's Day! We proceeded to unpack our instruments and did a set of singalongs like Charlie on the MTA for the Boston connection.Halfway through the set our wives came into the lobby -my wife grumbled to Pete's wife, “This party is going to keep us up all night!”Pete's wife Maureen looked a little closer and exclaimed, “Hey that's Jim and Pete in the center of it all!”They joined the fray, we had the best gig of the year playing for this group of strangers from the Midwest, wonderful folks who doubtless went home with a great tale and the definition of the work “Craic!” JIM OCONNOR

Brace yourselves! This episode of IMPACT unveils a seismic decision that will shake the very foundation of Meghan's world. In this episode, Meghan shares her realization that to take things to a much bigger level of impact, there are things she needs to let go of blindly. There are things she needs to let go of not necessarily knowing what is on the other side because they are tethering her from the full view. Moving to the next level is not about harder work, it's about harder decisions. Meghan believes that to lead other people, we have to be willing to lead ourselves not just with our voice, but with our actions. So with that in mind, Meghan has decided to take a sabbatical from the IMPACT Podcast. She is committed to making huge leaps on an emotional level, on a financial level, and on a ‘potential for failure' level because her vision for impact is huge. Life is less about what you do, more about how you make people feel, and everything about how you choose to show up in the world. But fear not, as Meghan clarifies this sabbatical is not a goodbye in any way. This is not the end of the show, this is the end of act one. Meghan's fearless choice will compel you to examine your life through a lens of unwavering clarity and empower you to release anything that no longer serves your future. Hit play now to embrace the changes needed for your next chapter, your next act. MEGHAN WALKER MeghanWalker.com @drmeghanwalker MEMORABLE QUOTES “We are walking into the intermission, and one of the things I'll invite you to do is maybe regroup yourself, grab a drink, stretch your legs, but know that the story is not over.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “And so this is an act of personal leadership. That may or may not inspire you to take similar actions in your own life and in your own world. I'm excited for this next step.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “I'd love for this to be a moment where you two look at your life with ruthless clarity and confidence and acknowledge the things that may not be serving the next chapter, the next act." -Dr. Meghan Walker “I have a vision for how I want to live my own life and it is not constantly pushed up against the wall. And I've worked really hard to create certain freedoms in my life and yet I engage in an ongoing manner in the behaviors that keep me pushed there.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “I have committed six and a half years, 327 episodes of conversations. It has been an enabler of ticket sales and traffic and growth of my clinical practice. It has been a launching ground for new programs and new phases of my life. It is also at a place where I feel like I can tie a beautiful bow on this experience, that I can look at this podcast with immense gratitude for what it has brought into my life.” -Dr. Meghan Walker

Nate Morefield emailed some St Patrick's Day pictures: "Hey Marc, pictures are still trickling in, but attached are a few from 3/17 and 3/18. In terms of funny material, maybe our tune Another Drink might qualify? It's about a guy who's missing his ex, but mostly because he needs her to fix him another drink... Just a thought." Ben Doran emailed a St Pat's photos: "Hello Marc, thanks for the invite to share photos. Here's a couple from the Friday night Wild Hog in the Woods Folk Collective's St. Patrick's Bash - - featuring myself, Lisa Johnson (as Leafy Greens), and friends Casey Day and Greg Matysik. And for funny songs? We there's Makem/Spain Bros. "Mr. La DeDaDeDum", but a big bully for you if you can find the rare, "The Second Hand Trouser's I bought in Belcoo" written by Martin McConnell, I believe (brother to the excellent columnist/story teller, Cormac McConnell). Slan go foill." Melissa Wade of Wild Blue Yonder emailed some photos: "Great to hear from you, Marc! We did have a good - and very busy - St. Patrick's Day! We played three shows in three days, traveling through wind, rain and cold to several different towns. Happy belated birthday to you, as well!! Attached are a few pics from our celebrations. The posed shot is at Anakeesta Mountaintop Adventure Park in Gatlinburg, where we played on St. Patrick's Day. Taking our Irish Celtic music high up in the Great Smoky Mountains to entertain for the holiday was most fitting and special. And while the howling wind and blowing rain were less than pleasant, they gave us the sense of actually being in Ireland! Thanks again for writing, and for all you do for Celtic musicians! We love your show." Sean Malloy of Band o'Brothers emailed a photo: "Hey Marc! Happy Belated Birthday & St. Patrick's Day! Hope you had a wonderful time and a wonderful gig with your daughters. Attached is a picture of Band O'Brothers as we prepared to roll through the streets of New Haven in the St. Patrick's Day parade. We had a blast playing out songs for the joyful people along the parade route, and after we completed the parade route we even stopped our float outside a neighborhood bar to play a few songs for the revelers. We had a great day!"

On this episode of IMPACT, Meghan is joined by David Henzel for a conversation you won't want to miss! David Henzel is a veteran entrepreneur who has taken his talent and skill in being able to design predictably positive and successful businesses and applied it to happiness and mindset in his own life. He doesn't just get a niche and arbitrarily go and design something new. He has a formula for how he designs successful businesses. In fact, David has a formula for how he designs his successful life. David teaches you to overcome resistance and build habits that create the environment for your dreams to become a reality. You are in control of your destiny, but you have to be bold enough to face your fears to become a person of IMPACT. His approach to success is simple; form the habits that support your goals instead of waiting for the right mindset to start your journey. It's obvious, yet most entrepreneurs are guilty of this specific type of procrastination. This episode is your wake-up call to start living a life you can be proud of. How can I fix this? How can I create the environment that makes this easier for me?” -David Henzel “I think habits determine everything in your life.” -David Henzel “Every decision in life you have to make out of love or out of fear.” -David Henzel “I always use my emotions as a filter. Like do I feel good about something? Then I lean in. Does it not feel good? Then I take a step back and think like why does this not feel good? Is it something that's not aligned with my values? Do I not want this? Or is it something that I actually want but I'm afraid because it's outside of my comfort zone. And then I reframe my mind.” -David Henzel “The courage won't come in the mail. Competence and confidence is the byproduct of repeated courageous action.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “I think structure brings freedom and also planning brings freedom.” -David Henzel

Are you stuck in an endless self-destructive pattern? Each of us is on our own spiritual journey, and it takes courage to acknowledge our weaknesses, but once you take ownership of your faults you can break free from the paradigm and forge a new path to your authentic self. On this episode of IMPACT, Meghan shares about her continued commitment to building her WORTH ethic as discussed previously in episode 311 “Why I Burned Out In 2022 & How I Am Going To Fix It.” Meghan details the shift in her physical and mental well-being after she devoted herself to an honest self-assessment. She learned that you can not free yourself from negative patterns until you acknowledge they exist. The essential you is worthy, although your ego can prevent you from expressing your authentic self. With each experience, you develop new neural pathways and expectations that shape your worldview and behavior. Without healthy self-awareness, you can get stuck in a negative feedback loop. You can break free from learned behaviors, patterns, and the stories that keep you from stepping into your full power. Meghan speaks to the power of self-reflection and self-love. You can blame others for how they treat you, but you can only control how you treat yourself. As you build awareness of your inner voice, you can repair negative self-talk to stop cycles of endless negativity and self-doubt. How you treat yourself sets the standard for everyone around you. People instinctually pick up on your behavior, so be kind to yourself, and you may be surprised to find that the world is a loving arena to play in. This episode offers practical tips and tools for building a positive relationship with oneself, repairing negative self-talk, and breaking free from the paradigms that hold us back. This assumption that if we're nice to other people they should just know, cause they love us enough, leads us down a dead road of assumptions and storytelling.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “What's right for me doesn't have to be right for other people to still be right for me, and it might sound so simple, but it is so profound.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “We've been fed a narrative that these people exist in the world who can read every single desire you have in your heart because they love you enough. What if that actually isn't true at all? What if part of your job is to just be really clear on the things that you need to thrive physically and emotionally and with compassion you share those.” -Dr. Meghan Walker “Sometimes when we are leading a movement, we need to recognize that not everyone is going to want to walk alongside that.” -Dr. Meghan Walker

You can have less money than you want to have and still be in integrity.” Kiné Corder “Can you shift your prosperity birthright? Sure you can, but that's the work you were talking about. You've got to do your work.” Kiné Corder “You'll need emotional mastery and part of emotional mastery doesn't mean that you're good at all the areas of what I call the money cycle, it just means you know which ones are your strengths and which ones you might be challenged with and you work around them.” Kiné Corder “I want us to be able to talk about money in a forward momentum capacity while simultaneously honoring the trauma that seems to be triggered when we, when we go there. And the intention here is that we find a way forward so that these two things can move into a state of momentum simultaneously. Because I don't want, I don't want people's progress with respect to money to be shelved while we're unpacking the trauma piece. I actually feel like money can be a catalyst to unpack these components.” Dr. Meghan Walker “It's really hard to talk about where we could go if we don't acknowledge where we came from.” Dr. Meghan Walker
Is fear holding you back from living a joyful life? Today on IMPACT, we uncover the connection between trauma and entrepreneurship with Jennifer Gilbert, founder of Save the Date, an elite event planning firm. Jennifer shares how she created an empire by flipping the traditional event business model! Jennifer turned a traumatic experience into motivation for a joyful life and turned her passion into a highly successful business. She recounts her journey from trauma to empowerment and the emotional rollercoaster in between. Trauma can present itself in many ways, it can be small, big, and over in an instant, but these moments impact us for the rest of our lives, but Jennifer teaches you how to reclaim your power so that you are not ruled by fear! With fear behind her, Jennifer is now a wildly successful entrepreneur, mother, and author committed to joy, with gratitude and love in her heart! She details what it takes to make your next event memorable and teaches you how to be a master of the details! If you are ready to end the cycle of trauma and take back control of your life, then tune into this episode of IMPACT as we flip the script on fear! KEY TAKEAWAYS [1:50] Highlights of Jennifer's career [9:25] Returning to normal life after trauma [16:00] Creating a joy-centered life [20:00] Getting over the feelings of shame [22:00] Trauma and Entrepreneurship [24:50] Trauma is relative [28:00] Reclaiming your power [32:00] Staying calm under pressure [36:10] Constituents of an incredible event CONNECT WITH JENNIFER SavetheDate.com Instagram MEMORABLE QUOTES “Fear is false evidence appearing real.” - Jennifer Gilbert “It was just that second, I don't know, but I was just like, you know what! You picked the wrong girl, and I just said to myself, GET UP! This is not your life, and if you allow this situation and this person to derail your dreams and your future, and what you wanted, then he may as well have killed you, so GET UP!” -Jennifer Gilbert “There is no contest when it comes to how somebody feels about a situation like we're all just in our own stuff, so it's not a, worse or better, it's just a relative.” [24:50] -Jennifer Gilbert “It really is a shift, because once you realize all I can do is control myself when I wake up or control my emotions about a situation, then you take back the power in your life, and so fear doesn't become this huge thing that is looming out there.” [28:50] -Jennifer Gilbert “Incredibly triumphant things can come out of the face of trauma.” - Dr. Meghan Walker “So for me I was like well it already happened and I couldn't control it and I can't control anything else that's ever gonna happen in this life, but I can control myself and I can make a decision on how I'm going to handle this and who I'm going to be afterwards.” - Jennifer Gilbert “So I think not having fear about what's going to happen allows you as an entrepreneur to throw your idea out there or to say I'm gonna try it cuz what's the worst that can happen, it won't happen. Okay, well so what else? Try something else.” - Jennifer Gilbert

Shel O'Toole replied: "I am usually working when listening to the podcasts as I work from home. The music keeps me motivated. I often play a podcast more than once during the week. I celebrate my Celtic culture most Sundays and every second Thursday at local Irish sessions where I play bodhran, banjo or guitar. One of my own songs has become a session regular and is a firm favourite of the patrons at the pubs where we have our sessions. Cheers Marc, PS I love the podcast." Mattie Dalton emailed: "This year, I will not be in the parade. My plan at this point, is to cook a fantastic meal and have all the kids and grandkids over to share and enjoy their heritage! I'd love to hear all your music or anything you put out. Love you kiddo!!" Ben Doran emailed: "While listening to the podcast, I am either doing light chores or culling through emails. Never too far from the speaker, or the playlist; so I can highlight songs/artists to take a further/deeper listen to. I am going to be playing three shows on St. Patrick's Day, two with Ar Ais Aris, and end the night with a great Irish songs and tunes concert for the Wild Hog in the Woods Folk Cooperative. Then, after all that: either a nap OR some Bailey's and Jameson, then a nap. Circling back: rehearsing, rehearsing this "holiday" season. Learning some new tunes, polishing up some old ones. Enjoying the fellowship while playing!" Teresa Finley of IrishFest Atlanta sent photos from the attendance at the Atlanta St Patrick's Day parade.
How do you earn respect? We often hide behind credentials, but genuine respect is earned by those bold enough to solve problems, lead with intention, and communicate effectively. On this episode of IMPACT, Meghan is joined by Sam Horn, an accomplished author of 9 award-winning books, an impactful speaker and expert in powerful language who has coached entrepreneurs all over the world. Sam believe one of the best ways we can disrupt the way we do business is to disrupt the way we communicate and together with Meghan, redefines what it means to be a "powerful leader." Respect is never demanded, it's earned. How you communicate outweighs what you are communicating. Every interaction either builds a relationship or undermines it. Proper communication can empower you and your audience. Can you summarize your vision in 60 seconds? That's how quickly you lose the attention of your audience! Sam teaches you how to get attention and hold it and how to harness your power through her leadership framework. Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from a master of intrigue about earning the respect you deserve and becoming a leader with impact! KEY TAKEAWAYS [7:40] Who is Sam Horn? The word imagine pulls people out of their preoccupation because they're picturing your point! They're not distracted, they're seeing what you're saying.” -Sam Horn “We can either reflect what is happening or we can direct what is happening, and if we are paying attention to the nuance, and to what we do want, instead of what we don't, we often can say something that will facilitate that.” -Sam Horn “In the real world, there are times we are the messenger of bad news, and we can't change the bad news. We can change the way we deliver the bad news, so at least people know that we care, instead of shrugging our shoulders, not my fault, don't blame me, nothing I can do.” -Sam Horn “Richard Branson said, time is the new money. And I think that time is a new trust and the clock starts ticking the second we stop talking. So if we hit the ground running, then people's eyebrows go up and we have earned their respect because we've already delivered value.” -Sam Horn "A huge part of leadership is about listening and reading the room." -Sam Horn “The language we use is so important, as it can either create a sense of powerlessness or empowerment in ourselves and others.” -Sam Horn "The through line from power to powerful and the thing that enables the zipline from one to the other is work on or acknowledgement of your self-worth. And the deeper your self-worth goes, the easier it is to move towards places that make you powerful as opposed to hanging onto power." -Dr. Meghan Walker "When we have a rising tide mentality, power is just defined as the ability to get things done. And if we want to get things done, then the more we enlist people and cooperate with them and make it a win for them, the more they will want to do this instead of they have to, or they're being paid to or they're being told to." -Sam Horn "Our role and goal in life is to be a peacemaker and to see how we can use language and set an example so other people respond in kind." -Sam Horn

Trusting that you are in the right place at the right time. Doing the work so that you have the power, and strength to hold a presence in a particular room. Whether that is across from your client or whether that is in decision-making in your business. This ownership of authority is sometimes something we have not been socialized to have.” Dr. Meghan Walker “If you make the decision to hand power to this lateral validation crew, then what happens is, you are giving permission to their opinions to set your standard for success.” Dr. Meghan Walker “If you decide that the opinions of your colleagues matter, then what happens is, you're going to be held back to the lowest common denominator level.” Dr. Meghan Walker

Celtic music accounts for about 90% of what I listen to, Mediaeval & Rennaisance making up most of the rest." Jim Burns replied: "What are your doing for St Patrick's Day? Having friends over to celebrate, listen to music and have adult beverages". He says he'll be celebrating with "The 3 P's - Parades, parties and pubs." Karl has his ready list and I've attached mine fyi. I have a show on Wednesday night and will be playing an interview with Kyf Brewer with the Barleyjuice Band from Pennsylvania and playing a few new tunes from Daori Farrell, the High Kings, Doolin', Barleyjuice and Martin Hayes. I hope that you have a great time and fun shows." Eric Guarin (gwa - reen) emailed a question: "Hi Mark, over time the Podcast has included bands from literally all over playing a pretty wide variety of music. Some of it strays quite far from trad pub music - I'm not complaining, it's all great, but it does make me wonder: How do you decide what to play and if it is "Celtic" enough? Cheers,"
Debt! The conversation no one wants to have but nearly everyone is a part of. This week on IMPACT, host Meghan Walker welcomes back Mary Shores, a 2nd generation debt collector and author of Conscious Conversations. Whether you're in debt or struggling to recoup payments from clients, this episode will give you insight into the emotional aspect of debt collection and impact your approach to finances within your family and business. Mary teaches entrepreneurs how to approach the conversation of debt with empathy while still being firm on their expectations. Debt collection is not sexy but is vital to your company's survival. In this episode, you will hear about the challenges small business owners face when clients fail to uphold their end of the sacred contract. This episode is a reminder that you are dealing with human beings who may be facing financial hardship beyond their control, and how you approach them could be the difference between recouping your money or taking a loss. For the clients on the other end of the conversation, this episode will shift your perception of debt collectors who are simply trying to make a living. This is a conversation that everyone needs to hear. So tune in and get ready to uproot your opinion of debt and your responsibility within The Sacred Contract. KEY TAKEAWAYS [6:45] Embodying spirituality in debt collection [9:10] Shifting the collective consciousness [10:17] The psychology of debt from both sides [14:15] The Sacred Contract [17:00] Engaging in conscious conversations [23:00] Preventing delinquent accounts [25:50] The Fear of the freakout [29:00] Every patient, every time, everywhere [34:20] Debt is not the enemy [37:40] Teaching kids about finances HOW TO CONNECT WITH OUR GUEST Maryshores.com @mary_shores Conscious Communications Communication Code for Collectors GUEST OFFERING https://pages.maryshores.com/communication-code-collectors?r_done=1 MEMORABLE QUOTES Debt is not the enemy. It's not bad to owe money. You can look at debt as an investment. If you take on debt because it's an investment in yourself or in your business that should be looked at as a very healthy thing. That is a resource that we have a privilege to have, but we shouldn't make the loan the bad guy. -Mary Shores “It can feel like someone has taken advantage of us. It can feel all different kinds of ways, but I think we don't talk about it, and what we really need to do is have solutions in place, understand this as a business function and a business role, make plans for it accordingly, but more importantly, learn to let go of it!” -Mary Shores “When you talk to someone, you're asking them questions, you're getting them to open up. You're getting them to discuss the emotions of it, and what we know from social psychologists is that discussing the emotions behind a feeling helps those feelings dissipate.” - Mary Shores "There's a deep shame associated with owing money." - Mary Shores "When I engage with someone and deliver a service for someone, this is like a sacred act of my life's work. Like it's not a flippant transaction for me. It is deeply meaningful." - Dr. Meghan Walker "How do you approach these difficult conversations?... It will get easier with practice." - Dr. Meghan Walker “Higher collections through stronger connections.” - Mary Shores This episode of IMPACT was brought to you by Practice Better. The age of transactional care is coming to an end! Artificial Intelligence is disrupting every industry and medicine is no exception. On this episode of IMPACT, host Dr. Meghan Walker tested this theory and asked ChatGPT to create a plan for menopausal women and it formulated a program that could easily replace the first 4 visits with most doctors. What does this mean for care providers? It means that you need to provide more than just the essentials, you need to provide transformational care! You won't help people by lowering costs, if you want to truly help your patients you need to innovate what you offer. Creating a signature system in your clinical practice, not only helps your patients but also future proofs your business against AI innovations. Meghan maps out how to design a transformational care plan using her A.C.T.I.O.N framework, just 6 steps that will take your practice to a whole new level to attract clients and keep them. To provide life changing care, you need to be specific about exactly who you intend to transform and how you're going to do it. Serving everyone usually serves no one, so commiting to a niche is an important step in crafting your signature system. By stepping outside the norms of care, you will set yourself apart from practitioners who are strictly transactional. Creating a system aimed at transformation gives patients emotional support, resources and a deeper understanding of what is happening in their own body. Want to take this A.C.T.I.O.N framework, break it down to the granular level and build out your signature approach to care? Then join Meghan on March 9th at her Signature Care System Implementation Lab. By the end of the day, you'll have gotten actual work done to create a unique care plan that will attract clients, add another barrier between yourself and a technology like ChatGPT, future-proof your business, and move it away from a series of transactions and into a transformational experience. Listen to this week's episode and register for The Signature Care System Implementation Lab with Dr. Meghan Walker on March 9th from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m EST at signaturesystem.biz. Any clinician can wear any type of hat. It's the strategist who earns the most because it's the strategist who has the most responsibility. It's the strategist who designs and refines the transformational process.” Dr. Meghan Walker “For patients, when they can get a more comprehensive, insightful understanding of what's happening in their body, it significantly elevates compliance.” Dr. Meghan Walker “I want to examine this topic from a really objective place because I think one of the thinking traps we could move into on this is that, oh, I've got time because I'm in one of these impenetrable vocations that's not necessarily gonna be on the first target hit list for artificial intelligence.” Dr. Meghan Walker “One of the cool things that we see when we move someone from a transactional system of care to a transformational system of care is we actually see those patients and those practitioners working with one another three times longer. There is a financial benefit to that because you are interacting with that patient three times longer.” Dr. Meghan Walker This episode of IMPACT was brought to you by The DNA Company. Rob emailed Greetings from the Snowy North: "Good day Celt Father, I just to want to say thank you for the amazing musical offerings, it makes shoveling the winter snow a much more pleasant experience, and to ask for a favor. After replacing my phone some apps did not make the transfer successfully. Since than I have a song stuck in my head that I cannot track down and I swear that it was from an episode of the podcast. I did some digging and matched up the lyrics to "The Barroom Girls" by Gillian Welch but I can not find the version that played on the podcast. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you again for a wonderful podcast and thank you again for the motivational snow shoveling music." Daphne Arthur of the Homespun Ceilidh Band sent holiday greetings last month: "I've been saving up all the Christmas - themed episodes of music podcasts until the actual start of Christmastide, so I'll have them to listen to during the twelve days, so on the first day of Christmas, I was listening to #586 while waiting for my after - Christmas - dinner tea to steep, and making sure Guillaume didn't accidentally burn his tail on my teeny tiny, improvised Advent wreath. Enjoying the music, as always! Merry Christmas to you and yours!" Leti and Rodolfo emailed: "The best time to listen to Celtic music is ...during breakfast! Hi Marc, This is Leti and Rodolfo from Madrid, Spain. We always listen to your podcasts while we have our banana and oats pancake breakfast on weekends. It has become a kind of a ritual and we really enjoy the music and the food before going out for a walk in the country. Keep up the good work. Thanks a million!"

Thanks for an awesome way to connect. I'm in the west Texas desert but recently found out that a fair portion of my genes come from the greater Dublin and greater London areas. Also a smattering of lower Saxony . My first knowing about Celtic music was when a highschool girlfriend and her mom took me to the Gasoline Alley pub here in town to listen to Linda Grubb's St Paddy's day show. Let me bring the storyteller to heel, and get to my point. My proposal for the name for the instrumental segment or instrumental only shows would be. "Celtic Reconnect" I'm not a patron yet, but those episodes are the second reason I want to make that happen. I have a small group of co - workers and family with whom I share individual episodes. It been a great way to keep communication open when there is nothing that "needs" to be said. Thanks."

Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Lou Gagliardi emailed: "Hi Marc, You ask people to email you to tell you what they're doing when they listen to the show. Sadly, I have no pictures to show but some good news to share I've been researching my family history and can proudly say that I've been finding lots of Irish, Scottish and even Welsh ancestry. I have no problem sharing the names - - Moon, Dunseath, Lowrie, Thomson, Dunn, etc. So your show helps me connect, in a way, to family long lost physically but coming to me in a spiritual and emotional way. Thanks and keep up the great work! " John Thompson wrote about episode #581: "Hey Marc, Just listened to the Irish & Celtic Music podcast episode 581 and I had a question. One of the last tracks was by Bren Holmes - - a song called SOS. This is a cover song originally written and performed by the Swedish pop group ABBA around 1975 (yeah, I'm that old). I thought you had a policy about not playing covers as they're not "pod safe". It's a great song and I've heard MANY great covers performed at various festivals by various bands. It would be fantastic if you could play more but don't want you to get into any kind of trouble. I'm not quite sure how that works. If you could explain it briefly for your listeners maybe it would clear up the confusion." George Mears emailed: "Marc, I've been a listener since the early days and a patron for several years. The podcast has been my companion for road trips, yard work, construction projects, and career changes; also raising two sons and all the changes 17 years brings. I've written a few times, including in 2018 when my sister and I had our own Celtic Invasion of Scotland after the death of our parents, which you shared with my fellow listeners, thank you. I took a deep stroll through the podcast archive recently, going back to selected episodes through the years. While the music has always been wonderful, it was insightful to hear the difference in your voice, energy, and personal topics from those days. Your podcast has been a shared experience for we, the listeners. Thank you for the virtual weekly meet - up that has brought so much joy. I'll be among your patrons for the next 17 years. Slainte!"

Their signature vocal style combined with instrumentation including harp, hammered dulcimer, bodhrán, guitars, button accordion, whistles and mandolin appeals to audiences of all ages. Jim Ofsthun bio: Jim is an original member of Willowgreen, and a talented vocalist and instrumentalist with international performances on Irish bodhrán, guitar, button accordion, and whistles. He is also a member of McInnis' Kitchen, and of Eira. He has family connections to the music through Ireland and Newfoundland, and is considered one of the top producers in Irish music in the Midwest. 4:37 - Willowgreen “Crocker's Cove Reel” from Willowgreen 7:34 - POITIN Poitín are an award-winning traditional Celtic band from Pilsen in the Czech Republic. They explore all forms of Celtic music but are firmly grounded in the pub session tradition and like nothing better than sitting round a table in the corner of a cosy pub playing old favourites about tarry sailors, merry maids and drunken nights. Poitín have performed at festivals across Europe in Italy, France, Poland, Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic. As the album says, it's 'one for the road', to go with you and keep you company in your car or on your bike, and this Celtic world music will take you from Ireland to Argentina, from England to Egypt, from Brittany to the Czech Republic and beyond. 15:44 - Poitin “Claudy Banks” from One For the Road 17:58 - AMELIA HOGAN - TAKING FLIGHT Amelia Hogan is an impeccably authentic singer of Celtic music and her heart comes through in honeyed tones on Irish, Scottish, British, and American styled vocals. She sings in the Irish music tradition of Sean-Nós, or “old style” as well as accompanied. Amelia also plays bodhran and a small 22 string Welsh lap harp, and tours internationally to global acclaim. Amelia Hogan sings both traditional and contemporary folk music with lilting graces and subtlety. She'll weave a mysterious old magic that takes the listener out of time and place. She transports audiences with haunting melodies, holding them close, and stirs ancient spirits with an evocative storytelling presence. 24:07 - Amelia Hogan “Taking Flight” from Taking Flight 26:19 - FEEDBACK 28:24 - KINNFOLK Josh and Julie Kinn weave bouzouki, bodhran, and smooth vocal harmonies in their Celtic folk music from the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They are proud of their deep songwriting bench - the original songs of Boston Blackthorne have won several national and international songwriting competitions including first place in the International Narrative Songwriting competition and honorable mention in the International Songwriting Competition. The band's sound is centered around powerful vocal harmonies and lead vocals shared by several of the members. Between the 5 core members instrumentation includes fiddle, 4&5 string banjo, harmonica, 6&12 string guitars, mandolin, bouzouki, bass and drums 50:26 - Boston Blackthorne “Fishing over the Lusi” from Single 54:40 - ALTAN - FAVORITE SONG OF MAIRÉAD NÍ MHAONAIGH You can hear more stories by the Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh on show #580. Obviously, I am the host of this podcast. But I'm gonna read my current bio on my website like I've done with others. Marc Gunn is a Rhythm & Folk songwriter who fuses Irish and Scottish folk songs with pop culture. One brewery called it Sci F'Irish music. His musical weapon of choice is the autoharp. He breathes acoustic Rock and Roll into this folk instrument and adds a bellowing taste of rhythm & blues. Gunn found musical inspiration performing Irish drinking songs. He learned the art of performing at Renaissance faires and from his childhood idol, Elvis Presley, who said, “You've got to put on a show to draw a crowd.” His concerts are fun filled with sing along songs that get the audience's feet tapping. And now for my song… I first heard the song “Peggy Gordon” from a cassette of Irish Drinking Songs I found at Half-Price Books in Austin, Texas. I learned most of my early Irish song repertoire from that album, songs like “Whiskey in the Jar”, “Big Strong Man, “Wild Rover”, “Bog Down in the Valley” and lots more. Their version of “Peggy Gordon” was short, but memorable. I played it on and off for many years. I remember singing it at a pub in Switzerland when I met Heidi and Stef of the Celtic band Bow Triplets. In July 2009, I met my future wife, Gwen, while touring in Virginia. We had this whirlwind romance and began talking on the phone every day and went to see each other as much as possible even while I was out on tour. I was completely mesmerized by her. A few weeks later, I was back in Austin. I was scheduled to record my next studio album with Rich Brotherton. He's an incredible engineer and had done some brilliant work for Ed Miller and lots of top-notch artists in Texas. I was having trouble singing the song. I was pitchy and my voice lacked any real emotion. The lyrics have this great feeling of love and longing. Which is exactly the feeling I was having with Gwen so far away. And so… I closed my eyes, focused on Gwen, and sang. To this day, I still tell people it is one of my best recordings. Because I feel like I nailed it. And then to top it off, Rich Brotherton added some absolutely beautiful guitar work, as he did throughout that album. It is definitely one of my warmest and lushest and best-produced albums. 1:42:07 - Marc Gunn “Peggy Gordon” from The Bridge 1:46:26 - ENDA REILLY Enda Reilly is a folk singer, songwriter and guitarist from Dublin, Ireland. Firmly rooted in the Irish tradition with songs that strive for a better future, Enda Reilly's work invites you to see the world from his varied and unique perspective through each new song and project. From busking on Grafton Street to the National Concert Hall, Enda has performed on countless stages in his hometown of Dublin and beyond. 1:50:46 - Enda Reilly “Christmas True” from Christmas Is With Us 1:54:07 - CLOSING 1:54:22 - THE CHIVALROUS CRICKETS – LORD OF MISRULE The Crickets explore the roots, branches and crossroads of Celtic and English folk and American Old Time music. With equal attention to exhilarating performances and academic rigor, they bring to the stage boldly reimagined arrangements of standards and originals with traditional influence. With a particular focus on song repertoire, they're known for their rich vocal harmonies and fascinating textural blends incorporating over 15 instruments, both modern and ancient. They're a family band comprising two sisters, two couples and childhood friends. Four of their members are full-time classical musicians as well. 2:02:23 - The Chivalrous Crickets “The Lord of Misrule” from A Chivalrous Christmas The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn, The Celtfather. Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Alexander Randall 5th emailed: “Marc: I was delighted to hear the Achendoun set by Chivalrous Crickets. Their handling of the Bonnie Prince Charlie March is the best I have ever heard. It is so energetic that I began to think, "If I were on my death bed, I'd want to hear this. If my hand taps my thigh, then I am still alive, but if not, then I am dead." This got me to thinking what would my "deathbed playlist" include? If I am in hospice and on the verge of death and a band were to come into my room to play music, what would I want on that list? The Chivalrous Crickets playing this Auchendoun set would top the list. St. Anne's Reel would be next. Capricalle playing Argyle Ladies is third... Miller's Maggot All from your podcast!!! I wish I could get a read on the third part of this attached tune. It starts as the humoresque and ends with one of the coolest riffs ever... The liner notes say "An Old Man Comes in and Sits Down" I wish I knew where to find other versions of this... Thank you for reading what your listeners say.” He followed that up with another email: “The Old Man Walks Into The Room And Sits Down' I found one recording of this by Celtic stone. DId anyone else record this?” Woodland Folk sent pictures of what he described as Eden. See those pictures in the shownotes.
