https://www.discogs.com/release/445594-Fanmail-The-Latest-Crazehttps://www.amazon.com/Latest-Craze-Fanmail/dp/B00000J802Scott Silleta:Following his departure from Plankeye in July 1998, Silletta formed the Christian pop-punk band Fanmail that year. In 1999, Fanmail released an extended play, Here Comes Fanmail EP, and their debut studio album, The Latest Craze, with the former containing a cover of The Police's 1983 single "Every Breath You Take." In the same year, the band's only music video, "Rock and Roll Star", was released;[18] it was directed by Derek Dale. Fanmail's second studio album, Fanmail 2000, was released in 2000 and included a cover of the Backstreet Boys' 1999 single "I Want It That Way"; it was the band's last release before the group disbanded in 2002. The band's song "Superfan" was featured on the soundtrack to the 2001 movie Extreme Days[19] as well as in the film. "Rock and Roll Star" and the band's cover of "I Want It That Way" appeared on the Tooth & Nail Tenth Anniversary compilation in 2003.[20] Silletta formed another Christian punk rock band, The Franchise, which released one studio album, Original Inevitable, on his Vanishing Point Records label on August 12, 2003.[21][22] Silletta later released a solo album, The Life and Times of..., on June 17, 2011.[23]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlankeyeSome Geocities Website:The Review:Raiting: B+Fanmail has just released their first album. Its an EP with four songs. It is called "Here Comes Fanmail." Let me start by telling you that the lead singer used to be in Plankeye and the guitarist from Slick Shoes. Fanmail combines both types of music. The music sounds like Plankeye but with a more punk edge. If you liked Plankeye you will definitely like Fanmail. Fanmail is much better of a band than Plankeye. It is only around $5 and I suggest giving it a try. I would have liked a couple more songs but it is still good. The Band:Scott Silletta - Vocals, GuitarDale Yob - GuitarJason Fleetwood - Bass, BGVJason Feltman - Drumshttps://www.oocities.org/sunsetstrip/stage/1512/fanmail/Ridiculous interview with Scott, late 2000https://www.skruttmagazine.se/fanmaileng.htmAllMusic bio:Featuring members of 90-lb Wuss, the Cootees, Plankeye, Slick Shoes, Value Pac and Rainy Days, Fanmail could be considered as a Christian punk super group. Formed in 1998 out of Orange County, CA, the four piece released their first EP on Tooth & Nail Records entitled Here Comes Fanmail. The full-length debut Latest Craze followed in 1999. Joined by Yob (guitar's/bgv's) , Fleetwood (bass) and Jason (drums), Fanmail evidently enjoy playing there peculiar brand of high energy, hard edged pop punk rock for those willing enough to latch onto 'The Latest Craze'. Scott has matured both his performance and song-writing since the early days of Plankeye, as Fanmail's debut album clearly demonstrates. Scott and co poke fun at at life with tongues firmly planted in cheeks; simultaneously directing the listener to Christ. Topics range from the deceit of fame ('Rock And Roll Star"), the celebration of family ('Jordi') and the need for humility ('Wonderful Punches'). 'The Latest Craze' is packed full of well produced and executed songs at the hands of Scott Silletta and Gene Eugene; where a truly original, yet familiar style is not only realised but also maintained throughout. Be a true fanatic, get into ' The Latest Craze'!https://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/products/Fanmail/The_Latest_Craze/911/Release Date: 17 June 1999https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/fanmail/the-latest-craze/Pastor Dave's Playlist May 7, 20185. “Turn off that Radio” by FanmailScott Silleta, the band's frontman, was one of my rock n'roll heroes when I was in high school. I was pretty much obsessed with him for a while. So, when he left the Christian rock band Plankeye and started a pop-punk band I followed right along. Fanmail was, admittedly, not great but Silletta's inclusion had me hooked. This song from their first album The Latest Craze (1999) is fairly pointless in lyrical content, with the chorus simply repeating “turn off that radio” over and over again. For whatever reason, however, is stuck with me this week and was a good, fun, blast.https://pastordaveonline.org/2018/05/07/this-weeks-good-music-14/LA Times Interview, March 9, 2001“I've long been against the whole labeling mechanism that Christians have given themselves and the box it has put them in,” said Cummings during an interview at the Hub Cafe in Fullerton. “Declaring you have to act in a certain way or sing only songs that praise the Lord serves to stifle art and creativity.”“It's weird. It's like we're stuck in the middle somewhere,” Guyton added. “The secular market won't touch us because we're Christians, and the Christian market won't either because we're not Christian enough.”What irks front man Silletta--a former member of Plankeye, one of Orange County's most successful Christian rock bands--is the false idolization he says he has encountered. He addresses the issue in “Hero,” a song on “Fanmail 2000,” the follow-up to 1999's debut, “Latest Craze,” both released on Seattle-based Tooth & Nail Records.“After shows in my old band, people would touch me and cry . . . really silly stuff like that,” said Silletta, who formed Fanmail in 1998 because of creative tensions within Plankeye.“They build you into this superhero in their mind, expecting all kinds of things from you. But when you don't live up to those expectations, they tear you down. When MxPx left Tooth & Nail [in 1998] for a major label [A&M; Records], they were slammed for [allegedly] not being Christians anymore. I know those guys firsthand. . . . I don't know anyone with more integrity than the three guys in that band.”…With the release of “Fanmail 2000,” the band fulfilled its contractual obligation to Tooth & Nail and, according to Silletta, has declined to sign a new, five-album deal. Fanmail, whose members range from ages 29 to 42, is looking to expand its local fan base with a series of shows here. They're also hoping to attract major label interest.“One of the good things about Tooth & Nail is that their [products are] distributed by EMI,” Silletta said. “It's been fantastic to have our CDs available at all the retail outlets. The problem, though, is that I have, in two different bands, been under contract with them since ‘93, and I just feel like it's time to work with someone else that can take our music to the next level.”https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2001-mar-09-me-35371-story.html

On this "impossibly short version of the ongoing conversation you'll find at TrueTunes.com" we revisit our conversation with songwriter, artist, and pioneer, Terry Scott Taylor. Between his solo work, his groundbreaking work with the band Daniel Amos, his collaboration with The 77s' Michael Roe, The Choir's Derri Daugherty, and Adam Again's Gene Eugene as The Lost Dogs, and even his more experimental or humorous work with The Swirling Eddies or as the composer of soundtracks for animated shows and video games, Taylor has been setting invitingly high standards since the 1970s. If there is ever anything resembling a True Tunes Mt. Rushmore - be certain that Taylor's glorious mug will be etched thereupon.  About The True Tunes Microdose Episodes: As we look back on our first 100 episodes we have gathered some of these "greatest hits" - never more than 5 minutes long - to remind long-time listeners of where we've been and give new folks a chance to check us out.  To hear the original show CLICK HERE.  If you want to support the show, please join our Patreon community or drop us a one-time tip and check out our NEW MERCH!

This week we get to sit down with a living legend!!  Listen Up! as we talk to the Saved Man in The Jungle as he talks about what feels like Phase III of his life and how he has been bringing Illumination on and off the stage with DJ'ing and his trade as an electrician. He had to Dust off his mic to share with us about the Eargasmic Arrangements he has created. Tune in and turn it up!! "I'll be real with you, I can't stand that trap stuff." Soup shares his thoughts and feelings on music today vs. the artform when he was in the industry. "It's a different hustle now." We discuss what it's like to create and distribute music vs. how it was when he was hustling in the music biz in the 80's/90'/and early 00's. "The industry just started changing." Soup shares his thoughts on the shift in the music industry and how he has had to adapt to those changes. "There were times when we were 75 deep." Soup talking on the unity in the early years of his career and working together within the small community fo holy hip hop, and how they would work together and promote each other. "After the gig to me that's the real ministry" He talks about how when he would tour and have people tour with him he expected them to be available after the show to talk and interact with people instead of just performing and calling it a night. You'll hear him talk about tour stories with Peace 586, Dynamic Twins , Gospel Gangstas, and P.I.D. and maybe hear some antics and tour pranks (like one involving a doorway, bucket and unexacting member of a certain duo).  We also go into DJ'ing, producing, and how he was preparing to be performing again for a gospel hip-hop documentary called "Mic Drop" You get to hear him talk about what he had to do to get his instrumentals from his albums so he's not rapping over his vocals! We also discuss the book he has written called "Through My Windows" which is his story/biography and also a little history of the "gospel" hip hop scene.  "With all this social media it should be easier for cats to be loving on each other." You can hear us speaking on the state of hip-hop today and the unity and lack thereof. "If it wasn't for Cookbook that record would've never came out" We get into the recording process of his 'Eargasmic Arrangements" album, the collaborations he had on there and how they came about, and how this was his most highly bootlegged album! We then go into him speaking of late friend and producer Gene Eugene, how they recorded together and built a friendship and how they were on jam master jay's guest list at the House of Blues! Lastly we discuss his latest venture of starting "Limelight Bar & Grill" in Jamaica. How he saw the opportunity and wanted to build a place to hang out and it's proximity to some historical Jamiacan sites, and how he's using it to take care of the locals. And you will definitely hear the reverence and plain joy we had speaking with this man. Thanks for listening in! Be sure to like, share, subscribe, and let us now what you think! Featuring songs from Moment of Clarity, Disgruntled, produced by Lanny Cordola, and American Standard, Produced by Mike Knott, Engineered by Gene Eugene. – In Frontline Records Rewind Episode 77, host Les Carlsen continues his conversation with rapcore group, Every Day Life (EDL), during a reunion rehearsal, 15 years after their last album. Listeners are treated to a couple live performances from that gathering and more of the juicy details behind some of their most controversial songs. Members Tedd Cookerly, Carl Weaver, Eric Wilkins and Jim Rupe share insights, but lead singer, Cookerly, is particularly transparent. He calls himself “a kid on welfare”, claims “everybody tolerates Tedd” and explains how EDL used their music as a voice for people who were searching for a commonality. Songs they wrote expressed empathy for victims of church vanity, rape, those who were belittled and youth who suffered from depression. Songs discussed in the episode were recorded on “American Standard” (Frontline) and “Moment of Clarity” (KMG). Tedd’s colorful narration includes a story of how Allan Aguirre (Scatered Few) prevented him from punching the lead singer of a Christian band during a concert. Another time he threatened to punch the nose of a Focus On The Family article writer. (Tedd often went looking for fights with those he believed disrespected friends and other Christian music pioneers.) Listeners will want to hear all the tales. Tedd even explains where babies come from!

Featuring songs from Moment of Clarity, Disgruntled, produced by Lanny Cordola, and American Standard, Produced by Mike Knott, Engineered by Gene Eugene. – In Frontline Records Rewind Episode 76, host Les Carlsen walked into a SoCal studio to sounds of rapcore by the pioneering group, Every Day Life (EDL), and talked with them about their unique combination of rap and metal, formulated in 1992. The show opens with a live 2016 rehearsal performance that will convince listeners EDL still has their chops! Tedd Cookerly, Carl Weaver, Eric Wilkins and Jim Rupe explain the thrill and fright of creating something new and the challenges of recording their improvisational, impromptu style. Lanny Cordola, producer of first Frontline album, “Disgruntled”, made it “shinier” than the group envisioned. Mike Knott produced, and Gene Eugene engineered, second release, “American Standard”, named for the toilet manufacturer, which continued their raw social criticism. Cookerly admits some lyrics included swear words, which didn’t seem to bother the record label, but many Christian bookstores were ruffled by lyric and controversial content, pulling CDs from the shelves. Ironically, EDL’s song, “Salt Circles,” was nominated for a “Hard Music” Dove Award in 1999. This conversation and reunion performance is rare and exclusive, something you don’t hear every day.

Greetings! Welcome back Never Wases!! "Man makes the plans - and God laughs," right? Now where have we heard that before? Alas, through many a twist and turn, Never Was Podcast returns (for real... probably) and the legendary Riki Michele joins us. The following line was written and rewritten roughly 100 times, and since it never seems quite up to snuff, I'll just lay it out there: once known to some as "the girl singer in Adam Again," Riki Michele is a solo artist with her own story to tell - and a brand new album, Push, to tell it. Gather round y'all - this one goes way, way back, then lands right in the here & now. Enjoy!

It was fitting to get the girls together on the cusp of Michele’s female-infused new solo album, Push. She and producer, Margaret Becker, primarily wrote the new work, which also features several girlfriends. Getting together in Michele’s San Diego home provided an opportunity to celebrate the new release and reminisce about her very first solo album, Big Big Town. Songs on this first project were written by Gene Eugene (Adam Again) and Steve Hindalong (The Choir) and produced by Gene Eugene. Of course it has funk-rock influences and Adam Again-infused production. Songs featured are from Big Big Town, released digitally for the first time since its 1989 release on Broken Records, and a couple favorites from Push.
