I'm beyond excited to announce than my guest on today's episode of the podcast, is former 'The Smashing Pumpkins' guitarist - Jeff Schroeder.Jeff is a California based musician, who in addition to being a composer, producer and songwriter had been recording and touring alongside Billy Corgan for the last 16 years, until his recent departure (which we do talk about). He has also been involved with acts like 'The Lassie Foundation' as well as 'The Violet Burning', which do come up during this conversation - as does narrowing down your dreams, comparative literature and even his recently released (and beautifully crafted solo record) - 'Metanoia'As usual, please remember to rate, review, like, share and/or follow as we continue to create content for you all, thank you. In this 100th episode of *The Rumors Are True*, Jeremy Alan Gould sits down with Jeff Schroeder, guitarist for *The Smashing Pumpkins*, and dives deep into his musical journey. Jeff talks about his time with *The Smashing Pumpkins*, offering insight into what it's been like being part of such an iconic band, especially working alongside Billy Corgan. The conversation also touches on his other projects, like *The Lassie Foundation* and *Violet Burning*, where he explores more atmospheric, dream-pop, and alternative rock sounds. Jeremy and Jeff reflect on the differences between working in a massive, internationally-known band versus these more niche, indie projects. Expect to hear personal stories, reflections on the evolution of his music career, and perhaps even his perspective on the current state of alternative and rock music.Produced by Wesley Hill @thebigwesArtwork by Jared Chase Bowser @jaredchasebowserMusic by Brian Jerin R.I.P. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/therumorsaretruecast/support
L.A. neo-psych group, Dream Phases, share their new LP Phantom Idol on this episode. On the album, Brandon Graham says, "Phantom Idol is our third full length album that was written and recorded between 2022-2023. It has by far the most collaborative writing of any of our albums so far, as Shane, Keveen and I co-wrote about half of the tracks on the album as opposed to writing the songs individually. We initially recorded demos for all of the songs, and some extra outtakes, and then we brought those to producers Matt Schuessler (Cat Power, Kurt Vile) and Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck, Dr. Dog). With Matt and Rob we re-recorded everything, refining tempos and espeically the tones of the instruments. We also had the pleasure of having several guests perform on the album including Jeff Schroeder (ex-Smashing Pumpkins, Dan Gee, Marc Agostini, and Omar Medina as well as having our part time band mates Anthony Marks and Pablo Orue, who have recorded on many of our songs over the years. For the artwork we collaborated with Asuka Watanabe on the album cover and design and Scott Duffey (Toucan Tango) on all of the singles' art. The vinyl and digital release is coming out on Coconut Spaceship Records, while the tape will be released on Mutation Records. We are going to do an initial run of California and Nevada shows, with further dates later this year. Like our previous album, 'New Distractions', this new album was very much conceived as a complete album as opposed to singles compiled together. Thematically the album deals with a good amount of self discovery and self reflection as well as personal relationships. It also continues our influence of living in Los Angeles, and our love of California in general with a healthy dose of escapism mixed in there. 'Phantom Idol' comes the closest to what we initially envisioned both sonically and performance wise, and we can't wait to share the record."

☕️Buy me a coffee: https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/support On this Jeff Schroeder interview, Jeff discusses his new album 'Metanoia' and his decision to leave the Smashing Pumpkins. The album is a departure from his previous work and represents a new era in his musical journey. Jeff reflects on the challenges of leaving a successful band and the process of redefining his identity as a musician, and as a person. He emphasizes the importance of letting go of ego attachments and embracing new opportunities, the importance of being present and enjoying life, the role of passion in your career, the significance of finding your own sound amidst the vast array of gear options available. Jeff shares his interest in mysticism and spirituality, how it has influenced his music and life, the attraction of different cultural philosophies and theologies, the appeal of ambient music, and the process of creating Jeff's new record. Jeff shares his experience of working with friends and the joy of creating something from start to finish, his extensive guitar collection and his approach to production. LOADS of cool stuff here! Jeff's most well-known as the guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins. He initially took James Iha's place and was with the band from 2007 to his amicable departure in October 2023. He recorded five studio albums with the band and after bandleader Billy Corgan, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, Jeff was the third-longest-serving member of the group. Jeff's got a new album out, called Metanoia… and today we're going to talk about the new record, and find out why he left the Smashing Pumpkins. As a side note, Jeff's one of THE most intelligent guests I've had on the show - very bright guy who's incredibly well-read Photo by Vice Cooler

Une rue parisienne portant le nom de David Bowie va être inaugurée en ce jour anniversaire, la France disposera dorénavant d'une voirie en l'honneur du musicien, alors que le Royaume-Uni, son pays d'origine, n'en a pas. This week we have Jeff Schroeder of The Smashing Pumpkins joining us in the hall of discussion. We caught up with Jeff on a day off while in New Mexico on a headlining tour. It was great getting to have such a down to earth chat with someone playing in one of the biggest rock bands of not only our generation, but arguably in the history of modern rock. As always, we really enjoy getting to chat with someone as humble and real as Jeff. In this conversation we get into the Korean-American experience, reluctantly attending Korean Church for the food, our love for Jazzmasters, current stage setups, Jeff's beginnings in music, home life, pre and post show meals and lots more! And then there were two. With the departure of Mike Byrne and Nicole Fiorentino, Corgan led the charge with guitarist Jeff Schroeder to make 2014's Monuments To An Elegy. An album with nods to its rock past as well as the Pumpkins' synthy future. Joining Frank as guest co-host to do a track-by-track breakdown of this album is former guest of the 'kast, Stephen Patrick Zapata-Kelly! Down a drummer, Corgan & Schroeder turned to Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee for an assist to achieve the bombastic and skilled attack needed to match the energy of the songs (as well as Rage Against The Machine's Brad Wilk on drums and The Killer's Mark Stoermer on bass for live shows). As the Teargarden project aspirations faded away (and with the subsequent abandonment of the Day For Night album), the future of the Pumpkins was looking dire once again. Luckily, time has shown that the Pumpkins are still going strong and with hindsight, a revisit of Monuments yields great rewards. Especially for fans who may not love the sounds of CYR or Atum (even though we get some glances in a few of Monuments' tracks). Ultimately, Monuments is an album that Stephen and Frank agree is "like a good slice of pizza". Lover, you're strange if you miss this episode! How to support the 'kast: NEW ! Before we dive in for the track-by-track breakdown of Oceania, we take some time to cover the history of the album and this particular era of the Pumpkins. Joining Frank as guest co-host this episode is previous Pumpkast roundtable guest and dedicated Pumpkinhead Kim Rosas! In addition to covering the history of the Oceania era, Frank & Kim discuss their Pumpkin fandom around 2012 (and now), what it was like waiting for the song you wanted to listen to/record on the radio in the 90s, an unusual gymnasium SP show at the Florida State Fair and how the music of Billy/SP feels like fate and why we're devout members of the Church of Pumpkins (Churchkins?). Plus, we give mad props to the impossible task Mike Byrne found himself in and throw in some much-deserved love and praise for bassist Nicole Fiorentino and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. The Shredder himself was kind enough to check in with us (during a rare moment of downtime) to give an update about the incredible Rock Invasion 2 tour and how it's been going from the band's perspective. We talk zig-zagging these United States, the differences between the primary shows and festival sets, gear stuff, how the band felt during the storm delay in Memphis and more. Jeff also teases a teeny bit about the big Fall tour with Jane's Addiction, and rightfully steers clear of giving up too much on the song “Beguiled” and what it was doing on the rehearsal setlist. Hard to believe but today marks the SECOND ANNIVERSARY of the official launch of The Smashing Pumpkast! We could think of no better way to mark the occasion than with our brand new interview with the phenomenal Jeff Schroeder! Jeff sits down with us to discuss everything from his unique musical contributions to The Smashing Pumpkins to the benefits of having a guitar teacher with a vast musical palette (and a No-Wave band). We also talk about the Importance of mental health and Jeff's work with the Continuance Foundation (https://www.thecontinuancefoundation.com), which Mellon Collie-era songs he'd 'Love' to play live and the Herculean effort that is working on a 33-song concept album remotely during a pandemic. We also ask Jeff about his underrated but influential early band "The Lassie Foundation" and how it feels to see people revisit and reassess moments in the SP catalog years later. He's more than a shredder, he's a stone-cold artist and real gentleman. We had such a great time chatting with him. Thanks, Jeff. How many of us stop to consider how much rock music owes to literature? Many of rock or folk lyricists of the 60s and 70s (and into the later years) were very well read. Many were students of English literature. Here are a few examples.Jim Morrison was a published poet. Chris Martin of Coldplay mastered Greek and Latin, Sterling Morrison, a Ph.D. in Medieval Literature, Rivers Cuomo graduated from Harvard University in English, Jeff Schroeder, Ph.D in Comparative Literature at UCLA.A couple of honourable mentions:Brian May of Queen, Ph.D. in Astrophysics, Art Garfunkel a master's in Math, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine graduated from Harvard in Political Science. And then there were songs inspired by Literature:Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush based on the book by Emily Bronte. Pigs by Pink Floyd was inspired by George Orwell's 1984 as was Testify by Rage Against The Machine. White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane was a shout out, obviously, to Alice in Wonderland. Sympathy For The Devil by The Rolling Stones was inspired by Bulgakov's Master And Margarita and also by Baudelaire's World by Rosemary Lloyd. Metallica's For Whom The Bell Tolls is, of course, straight from Ernest Hemingway. And India's mega band of the 70s, The Human Bondage got its name from the title of a Somerset Maugham book.Sort of puts paid to the whole under-educated, unwashed, drug-taking bad boys of rock. (Well, at least not the under-educated part evidently.)Our guest today on The Literary City is Bruce Lee Mani. He is frontman of the famous Indian rock band, Thermal And A Quarter and he runs the reputable music school Taaqademy. We talk about how his lifelong interest in words and literature shaped his songwriting. The piece of music you hear coming into the segment is Bruce Lee Mani, singing all the vocal parts, a cappella, of his songs, Tomorrow. On this episode of Artist Collective Radio Show, Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder talks to us about his creative and artistic evolution and how becoming your most authentic self often produces your best work. He takes us on his journey of playing with indie bands to playing with one of the most iconic bands of all time. Jeff tells us how those experiences and the radical acceptance of himself inspired him to produce his own solo work, set to be released by the end of this year. Jeff is one of the kindest, most-humble people you'll ever meet, and this is an episode you'll want to watch until the very end.More about Jeff Schroeder:Known for his swirling, lyrical guitar shreds, Jeff Schroeder has been the guitarist for The Smashing Pumpkins since 2007. Prior to that, he pursued doctoral studies in comparative literature at UCLA, released several albums with California shoegaze-pop darlings The Lassie Foundation, and toured the world with The Violet Burning. In July, he released a phantasmagoric cover of classic Korean tune, Haenim by Kim Jung Mi. Later this year, Jeff will release an album of his own work.Connect with Jeff:Websites: http://jeffkimschroeder.com; https://smashingpumpkins.comInstagram: @jjjschroeder; @smashingpumpkins; @lassiefoundation#JeffShroeder #SmashingPumpkins #Haenim #TheLassieFoundation #TheVioletBurning*********************More about Artist Collective Radio Show:I'm Shashana Pearson, a writer, actor, sometimes textile artist, and long-time dreamer. Our guest on this episode is Jeff Schroeder, guitarist in Smashing Pumpkins. This conversation was super fun and dipped its toes deep in the waters of 80s metal and shred guitar territory as we shared stories of guitar heroes and vintage shred machines that we covet. Jeff even revealed some crazy shoegaze/noise guitar secrets and showed a piece of gear off that helps him achieve some of those tones that he has been greatly inspired by. Jeff Schroeder has been the guitarist for alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins for more than a decade now - becoming a mainstay of their touring line-up since he joined in 2007. Before that, he was an integral member of The Lassie Foundation. They were regarded as a trailblazing act who developed their own unique 'shoegaze' guitar sound. During the interview, The Captain talks with Jeff about sharing festivals with Dream Theater and The Cure, as well as his guitar inspirations. There's even a hands-on discussion/demonstration about pedals, where the guy's show you just how to nail some of Jeff's favourite tones!
