The Nats lost 5-2 in Colorado, but there were many positive vibes afterward as **PATRICK CORBIN THREW A COMPLETE GAME IN COORS FIELD** (No bottom of the 9th was played). Mark (from Denver) and Al rehash the left hander''s best start in years, despite the poor defensive play behind him. Davey Martinez thinks Corbin is "back", what say you? Plus, will Riley Adams become Corbin's personal catcher moving forward? (14:40) Alcides Escobar had another bad game as he committed two errors and struck out three times. Have we reached a breaking point with Escobar playing SS this year? This leads to an updated version of the conversation about the potential for Luis Garcia to be called up. (23:01) Yadiel Hernandez collected two hits while being slotted in at DH. Hernandez is batting .371 this season and it seems he is "locked in". The hosts look at his unsual situation in terms of a potential trade, because he still is under team control until the 2027 season. (31:02) Sean Doolittle was moved to the 60 day IL. (07:27) Speaking of Escobar, the Rochester Red Wings tweeted out a defensive highlight made by Luis Garcia on Saturday afternoon that raised our hosts eyebrows due to the way it was typed out. (Cade Cavalli also threw his best outing of the season) (16:12) Victor Robles had six hits so far in this series. Could he be regaining his confidence at the plate? Things went south for the Nats right from the start on Sunday as they lost 12-3, sealing a sweep at the hands of San Francisco.  Lucius Fox vomited next to the pitchers mound after the second pitch of the game, just before Joc Pederson hit a lead-off HR off of Joan Adon. This entire paragraph actually happened.(08:36) Mark tells Al the latest on Josh Bell who did not play Sunday, but Davey Martinez says the MRI on his hamstring "came back pretty clean".  Bell not playing mixed with Fox's quick exit led to Riley Adam getting time at first base.(15:05) Alcides Escobar's struggles continued and it feels like it might be time to call Luis Garcia back up.  Is it time to remove Escobar from the lineup and make room for younger players?(23:13) It was another day that the starting pitcher struggled for Washington. Josh Rogers appeared out of the bullpen and the hosts set the table for where the rotation currently stands.  Will Patrick Corbin make his next start?  What's up with Anibal Sanchez's neck?(31:04) A listener email critical of Mike Rizzo and his recent track record.  What say you?

He allowed seven runs, six of which were earned, on over 80 pitches.  The infield defense behind him was lackluster and it begs the questions, when to call up Luis Garcia?(13:00) The tone for the day began with negative vibes as Sean Doolittle was placed on the IL due to an elbow sprain.  How serious is this ailment?  The "B" bullpen got the nod on Wednesday, including Sam Clay who was called up to replace Doolittle.(20:30) Adding to Wednesday's woes was Josh Bell exiting  the game early due to left knee tightness.  Could we see Riley Adams get more use at 1B if Bell ends up going to the IL?

Career Refactoring - Find the Gig that Sparks Joy w/ Luis Garcia The pandemic has been tough on everyone. Some have obviously felt the impact deeper than others. But there have also been positive things that came about as a result of the change Covid has brought to our lives. For some, it provided an opportunity to step back and reassess their goals, how they were spending their days and the way they wanted to live and work. For many, this has meant leaving their jobs entirely. For others, like Luis Garcia, it's meant taking stock, realizing what work sparks joy in your life, and Kondo-ing the rest of that noise right out of your system. This podcast features an interview with a colleague of mine who started out as a project manager and spent years working his way up the ladder only to find it give way when he got laid off early in the pandemic. Rather than rush right back to work, Luis took advantage of the break, spent more time with his family, and reevaluated his career. He'd been successful at working his way up the food chain but realized that at some point, he'd left behind the parts of the job he enjoyed the most. Luis joins me in this episode to talk about that journey and how he's made a deliberate choice to go back to being a Scrum Master so that he can spend his time doing what brings him joy - working with teams to build products that impact the lives of others. On the 27th of December 2021 Alicia Cardenas; a mother, a tattooer, a piercer, a mentor, and a former President of the Association of Professional Piercers was shot and killed in her studio in Denver, Colorado. Alicia was my friend and I thought the best way to grieve and heal would be to ask some of Alicia's friends and colleagues to share their thoughts with us. It might be difficult for you listen to, but it is a powerful episode with some laughs, some gossip from the days of piercing past, and just a little bit of crying. I've also included the conversations I recorded with Alicia back in 2016, so be prepared to hear her voice from time to time. This episode is only one small window of a shared grief in our piercer community, and this tragedy in Denver. Alicia was not the only death, not the only casualty. Alyssa Gunn Maldonado was shot and killed in the same attack at Sol Tribe. Alyssa's husband James Maldonado was also shot, and fortunately survived. Three other people were killed by the same attacker that night. Sometimes thoughts and feelings are left unsaid. Cherish the friends and the loved ones in your life, tell them how you feel every chance you get. This episode was made with contributions from: Bethra Szumski, Eduardo Chavarria, Amanda Waters, Miro Hernandez, Ismael Vargas Guerrero, Vivi Madero, Jef Saunders, Gigi Gits, Jason King, Luis Garcia, Caitlin McDiarmid, Dr. Matt Lodder, Kendra Jane, Paul King, and Casey Dilla Hosch. Rest in Power Alicia.

After a flurry of free agent signings and other moves, at midnight on Dec. 2, Major League Baseball owners chose to lock out the players and shut down the offseason until further notice. What a bunch of jerks. In this episode, we talk about the Cardinals signing Steven “Dr. Thunder” Matz while the Cubs - of all people, the Cubs - signed Mr. Name Brand himself, Marcus “Dr. Pepper” Stroman. We also chat about two more Cardinals who won’t be returning - Luis Garcia and Jose Rondon. From there, we pivot to consider what the Cardinals might do whenever labor negotiations thaw. We end by answering a few more listener questions, including some holiday-themed queries about our favorite Cardinals gifts and ideas for baseball reading. Subscribe at cardinalsoffday.substack.com
