This week we travel back in time to just after the dawn of PUNK ROCK (1978-1981)! We discuss bands influenced by the 1st wave who then took punk into various sub-genres. If you don't think Punk is for you based on secondhand information, we ask that you listen with an open mind and prepare to get out some aggression. This episode features songs with the shortest track length that we've ever played; it's PUNK ROCK people! Punk is where Kevin started down his path of music fanaticism. Although, that was more based around the hardcore Punk scenes. This is the lead-up to hardcore, and what would establish punk as a lasting genre full of variety and originality. Hope you dig the 2nd wave!Songs this week include:The Dictators – “Faster And Louder” from Blood Brothers (1978)Magazine – “Shot By Both Sides” from Real Life (1978)Chelsea – “I'm On Fire” from Chelsea (1979)The Stranglers – “Dead Loss Angeles” from The Raven (1979)GG Allin – “One Man Army” from Always Was, Is, And Always Shall Be (1980)Zounds – “Can't Cheat Karma” from Curse Of The Zounds (1980)Soggy – “Waiting For The War” from Soggy (1981)The Cheifs – “Liberty” from Holly-West Crisis (1981)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria Store

Frank MeyerTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Frank Meyer. Frank has been a staple in the film, television & punk scene for the past 30+ years. In this episode, we chat about his growing up with some of the most supportive parents of their era. Frank's folks not only supported his hopes and dreams, but they also even took him to see some of the most iconic acts of all time. Frank recounts stories of seeing The Blues Brothers live, and even Eddie Murphy's Raw & Delirious shows. Then we get into some of Frank's work in television & film. Having spent several years with the G4 channel, Frank was an early podcaster with a very cool insight into the format. We bounce all over the place in this one. Frank shares stories of his antics with some of music's greats; like Cherie Currie, David Lee Roth, Dave Mustane, Van Halen, and Eddie Spaghetti. I get him to explain why he wrote books about Phil Spector, The Ramones, and even his series From Dude To Dad. Frank not only has his own bands: Frank Meyer & The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs here in the US, but also Trading Aces in Europe! Plus, he plays with FEAR, Cherie Currie, Range War, and Handsome Dick Manitoba's The Dictators. Fun stories involving The Stooges, and being a good hang. Frank even made documentaries about his buddy Hell Razah, and another one about Hip Hop 101. Check those out everywhere documentaries are available! Finally, we discuss Frank's debut solo album Living Between The Lines. I wouldn't be me if I didn't ask to play my favorite track from the album (Blue Radio)! Wu Tang Clan, Drew Barrymore, Eddie Spaghetti, and Keel stories abound!!

Baxie talks to Frank Meyer from the Street Walkin' Cheetahs! After more than 30 years Frank is about to release his very first solo album, “Living Between the Lines”. Frank has not only played with the likes of James Williamson from The Stooges, FEAR!, Handsome Dick Manitoba from The Dictators, Sylvain Sylvain from the NY Dolls, and Wayne Kramer from The MC5–he's written several books about the Ramones, Van Halen, and fatherhood and Dave Mustaine from Megadeth. He's also been an award-winning documentary filmmaker maker, a producer for NBC, and a content director for Fender guitars. He also happens to be the older brother of actor Breckin Meyer! Some amazing stories from one of the hardest working guys ever! Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app! Brought to you by Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Chicopee!

"Bloodbrothers" The Bronx-born Richard Blum took his love of wrestling and Catskill Mountains humor and created Handsome Dick Manitoba, the wildly charismatic frontman of the legendary proto-punk outfit The Dictators. Along with his childhood best friend Scott Kempner, Andy Shernoff, Ross Friedman and Stu Boy King, The Dictators tore out of the gate with all the fuel-injected energy of the MC5, and absolutely demolished the stage with high octane live shows that were nothing short of legendary. Although not huge commercial successes, albums like Go Girl Crazy! and Manifest Destiny were instant classics and still sound as urgent and alive as they did over 40 years ago. So why weren't they commercial successes? I don't know. The Ramones had their leather jackets, and The New York Dolls had their sleazy glamour, but hook of The Dictators was a mystery? I mean, come on--a fevered cultural cauldron of cars, girls, television, and raging weekends, The Dictators' hook was simple: it was an adrenalized and fevered vision of the modern world, simplified into three minute blasts of feral punk wrath. But it was also funny. A big Jewish flex of humor and irony, The Dictators weren't messing around about messing around. They were enjoying themselves. Using an updated blast of Borscht Belt comedy with youthful frustration, The Dictators weren't a high concept band--they were economical in their approach and somehow this went over a lot of people's heads and even though their members had nicknames like Top Ten or The Boss or... Handsome Dick Manitoba, they were taken literally and not ironically and the point of the fun was totally missed. They covered The Stooges and Sonny and Cher, they even took a gleeful stab at California Sun--not too shabby for kids from New York, Look, the songs are as timeless and anything The Ramones or The Dolls ever did, and their lack of massive success seems a huge generational oversight, but what can one do? The band dissolved like bands do, Handsome Dick later fronted Manitoba's Wild Kingdom, fronted a later iteration of The MC5 and is now playing under his own name with a killer band behind him. www.handsomedickmanitoba.com www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com
