Businesses originate in all kinds of ways. And coaches, once you start seeking out and taking on clients on your own...you have created your own business. You have become an entrepreneur. Fitness journeys vary as well. Mine began when I was still acting and singing and on the path to becoming a successful musical theatre actress. Once I began helping folks attain their dreams and health goals, however, I fell in love with this diverse, enriching industry that has so many nuances and ways to enter it, thrive, and continue to learn and grow. I am pumped to have Miguel Aragoncillo joining us today on the PT Profit Podcast to talk about his journey not only in fitness but also in building his business. He talks to me about how he found his "in" into the fitness industry, continued pursuing his education and built a business. Now he has clients all over as well as a wealth of knowledge that continues to increase. It was fantastic getting to know Miguel and introduce him to you all. Miguel and I talk about:- Persevering through rejections and setbacks.- How truth advances your clients because that's what gets results.- The easiest path being the hardest to pursue. Don't forget to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. Dr. Clifford Civil was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. As a young boy growing up in the urban community of Flatbush, Brooklyn, he had a natural attraction to athletics and sports, but enjoyed basketball the most. He played basketball recreationally throughout the years, but played football for a short stint in high school prior to relocating from New York to the metro-Atlanta area of Georgia. Dr. Civil grew up in a loving and nurturing, yet strict, Caribbean household which highly influenced his continuous pursuit of higher learning and a profession in healthcare. In 2010, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Soon after in 2013, he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Civil gels together his affinity for movement and his natural compassion for others in the care of his patients. Dr. Civil has several years of extensive experience treating patients in private clinics with various orthopedic and sports related injuries. In addition, he has years of experience providing physical therapy for patients in their homes. Lastly, Dr. Civil is also experienced with fitness and wellness training dating back to 2010 when he was formally certified as a Health Fitness Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Civil is the founder and owner of his own firm titled Civil Physical Therapy, which he originally started in 2017, but did not truly break ground until 2020. Civil PT was created with the main objective of providing a healthcare delivery model that's convenient, results-driven, tailor-made, and most-of-all, patient-oriented. In addition to treating patients and managing his company, he enjoys learning new skills, reading, completing D.I.Y. projects, traveling and exploring new places/cultures, and staying active by regularly exercising. Welcome to Season 8, Episode 12 of the ParentingAces Podcast! In this week's episode, I chat with Mark Kovacs, PhD, founder of the International Tennis Performance Association (iTPA) and fellow Atlanta resident, about the concept of Periodization and how best to use it with our junior tennis players. This conversation came about after I received an email from a ParentingAces listener asking for more information about what periodization really is and how she can incorporate it into her child's training and competition schedule. After sending her a few articles to read, it occurred to me that Mark Kovacs would be the best person to address this topic on the podcast.  Dr. Mark Kovacs is a renowned performance physiologist, researcher, university professor, author, speaker and coach with an extensive background training and researching athletes at all levels. He serves the iTPA membership as its Executive Director. He formally directed the Sport Science, Strength & Conditioning and Coaching Education departments for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the ITPA. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts in top journals including the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine, Sports Health, International Journal of Sport Physiology and Performance, Strength & Conditioning Journal, Journal of Sports Science and Medicine among many others. He is currently the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Strength & Conditioning Journal and is on the editorial board for multiple other journals including the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He has presented workshops and keynote addresses on four continents and well over 100 presentations. Along with his academic and scientific background Dr. Kovacs is also a coach and former professional athlete. He was an All-American and NCAA doubles champion in tennis at Auburn University. After playing professionally, he completed his graduate work at Auburn University and earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from The University of Alabama. Dr. Kovacs is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a certified Health/Fitness Specialist through the American College of Sports Medicine, a United States Track and Field Level II Sprints Coach and Certified Tennis Coach. In other words, Mark knows whereof he speaks! As he mentions in the podcast, Mark was scheduled to host a Tennis Fitness Combine on March 9 in Atlanta. SHOW NOTES   In this episode, Miguel Aragoncillo chats with me about how we can use the environment as a way to “discover movement” like dancing, jumping, squatting and much more. The use of the ground, wind, and visual surroundings are just a few ways were we can challenge our bodies (and brains) to “feel” movements. The results are a better understanding of how your body moves and how to calibrate accuracy of movements, by knowing what inaccuracy feels like. Thank you for reaching out to me about this podcast Miguel. I had a great time chatting and thanks for sharing. Let’s keep in touch and keep the conversation going!   Links Website Philosophy Creating a New Attractor Well for Behavior Non-Linear Behavior for Sports Performance   Miguel Aragoncillo Bio: I am currently working as a strength coach at Cressey Sports Performance in Massachusetts. Prior to working at CSP, I was employed with Endeavor Sports Performance in New Jersey, and was working alongside Kevin Neeld and co, working with several types of athletes and individuals – namely private youth hockey organization and a private travel baseball organization, functioning as the strength coach in their Pennsylvania location. When working with these athletes and clients, priority is taken to ensure quality movement is pursued, along with optimal exercise selection for that specific individual. Many who read these bios expect a long and prolific athletic career riddled with letters and achievements in their respective sports. I have had none of them, and I did quite badly at most sports during my adolescence. However, with this weakness I turned it into a strength, as this allowed me the opportunity to try breakdancing at my own pace, with no rules and no boundaries to limit me. I disliked running, so soccer was fairly uncomfortable for me to complete to say the least. I remained the same height from the age of 15 on, so basketball was already a limited choice from a genetic standpoint. I also didn’t particularly enjoy getting hit in the mouth at age 12 when I was playing baseball, so I gave up that sport fairly quickly. So, armed with my genetic limitations and lack of coordination, I stubbornly pressed on to breakdance my way to athleticism with time, effort, and determination. Now, I take great pride in the work that I’ve devoted to helping dancers all along the east coast hosting multiple booths, workshops, and individual assessments, all while aiding individual dancers to prepare for a large spectrum of movements while preparing for performances and competitions. I hold a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification through the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and Health Fitness Specialist certification through the American College of Sports Medicine. Further, I’ve received my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science from Temple University, located in Philadelphia, PA.   Sebastian’s Youtube Channel Attention Docs and Fitness Professionals: Access your client educational products, banners and posters here.
