Welcome to Season 13 Episode 44 of the ParentingAces Podcast - our final episode of the Season! - a proud member of the Tennis Channel Podcast Network. This week, Lisa talks with Doctor of Physical Therapy and Strength & Conditioning Coach, Kait Ireland, about why a physical therapist should be part of a junior athlete's team. Kait is a soccer player turned strength & conditioning coach turned physical therapist. She has several degrees including both a Masters degree in Kinesiology (studying exercise & sports conditioning) & a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She's worked for many years as a strength & conditioning coach and completed internships at notable facilities like EXOS in Arizona and Cressey Sports Performance in Massachusetts where she worked with athletes from most sports and levels including the NFL, MBA, and NHL. Like many entrepreneurs, Kait went into physical therapy after feeling frustrated by the quality of care her strength & conditioning athletes were receiving from traditional physicians & physical therapists who just don't understand the unique demands of sports participation. She now runs Empowered Athletics PT in Laguna Niguel, CA, and also offers video consultations for those outside the area. In this episode, Kait discusses the important role a physical therapist plays in a junior athlete's development. At different stages, young athletes should have their basic movements analyzed by a professional who can intervene when something is askew. Kait explains how a physical therapist can work with the parents, player, coach, fitness trainer, sport psychologist, sports medicine doctor, and others to ensure healthy physical development and timely intervention when an injury or ailment pops up. You can find Kait on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/empoweredathleticspt/. You also reach her via email at Kait@EmpoweredAthleticsPT.com or phone/text at 949-584-7787. If there is one person I trust with my nutrition and supplementation, it's Robb Wolf. LMNT is a tasty electrolyte drink mix with everything you need and nothing you don't. That means a science-backed electrolyte ratio – with none of the junk. No sugar. No coloring. No artificial ingredients. No gluten. No fillers. No BS. The benefits are numerous, but here's a few to wet your whistle...   Prevent and eliminate headaches, muscle cramps, fatigue, sleeplessness, and other common symptoms of electrolyte deficiency  Boost performance and recovery. Electrolytes facilitate hundreds of functions in the body, including the conduction of nerve impulses, hormonal regulation, nutrient absorption, and fluid balance  Support a low-carb lifestyle by preventing, mitigating, and eliminating the “low carb/keto flu”  Support healthy fasting. LMNT replaces electrolytes without breaking a fast Personally, I'm a big fan of intermittent fasting and drinking LMNT daily during my fasting hours provides noticeable improvements in energy, focus, and gut function. Most of all, it helps me drink more water throughout the day and that's never a bad thing (it also mixes well in a cocktail, but you didn't hear that from me).   The Ultimate Plan tests up to 43 blood biomarkers—including glucose, cholesterol, cortisol, and hemoglobin—for a complete and holistic analysis of your health. Tony Gentilcore is a personal trainer & strength and conditioning coach located in Boston, MA. He's a co-founder of Cressey Sports Performance where he worked as coach from 2007-2015. He now owns and operates his own gym in Brookline, MA called CORE Collective where he helps regular people re-connect with their inner athlete. His writing has been featured on reputable publications such as T-Nation.com, the PTDC, and Men's Health. In addition, he's the co-author of The Complete Shoulder & Hip Blueprint and eats a disgusting amount of cheese on a weekly basis. Tony and Jim met in the early 2000s on the T-nation forums…and of course in person. Neither had any idea at the time that they'd someday be reaching audiences around the world with training and fitness information. Mike read many of Tony's articles when he began to study lifting. We had a great opportunity to both catch up and compare notes on the current state of coaching. Have a question for us?
