Our last episode of May is here, and we can hardly believe it! It was a privilege to have our fellow Desert Springs staff member and friend Manny Hernandez in the studio with us. Manny came on staff as our High School Pastor in December 2021 and we're so thankful that he and his family came to be a part of the ministry that we do. Today we get to get up close and personal with Manny as he walks us through what his life looked like before Christ. Manny was born and raised in Arizona and grew up with somewhat of a Catholic background. As he describes it was more of a base knowledge than any kind of relationship. He had many talents, especially in art and music but in some ways that made it difficult for him to settle on a direction for his life after high school. He struggled to find where his value and worth came from and when a certain relationship crumbled it really sent him into a spiral. He was crushed but knew that he had to move forward and decided to start pursuing a career though he wasn't ready to place his faith in the Lord. Meeting his eventual wife Venesa (we've linked her story below!) was a huge part of the journey that led him to a relationship with Christ. We would love for you to listen to this story as Manny walks us through his moment of salvation, serving as a husband and father, the transition into full-time ministry and the decision that was made to be a part of Desert Springs. On this episode, Ryan and Colton introduce the podcast to the world. "Black in White Church" is a podcast centering around Ryan's black and Colton's white experience in white church. This podcast is fundamentally a conversation, not a sermon. Neither Ryan nor Colton claim to have all the answers, but their experiences and studies might shine some light on the current reality of Black people in White Churches.   Ryan is a High School Pastor at RMCC in Mesa, Arizona. He received his Bachelors of Arts in Christian Studies and a Masters of Science and Leadership from Grand Canyon University, as well as a Masters of Arts coming from Phoenix Seminary in the near future. Colton received his Bachelor's of Arts in Biblical Studies and Theology from Biola University as well as a Masters of Arts in Preaching and Pastoral Ministry plus a Masters of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling. Very few topics are as tough to talk about to teens as the topic of sex. Middle schoolers are bombarded with culture's messages of sex but likely have little exposure to the biblical view. This series certainly won't answer all their questions (in fact, it may serve to raise a bunch of new ones), but it will expose your students to a biblical understanding of God's plan for sex, where society has gone wrong and what a middle schooler can do about it all.   Tonight, our High School Pastor, Mark Kaminski, speaks on how Middle Schoolers are supposed to live out God's perfect plan. Dennis served as the High School Pastor at Rolling Hills Covenant Church in LA and then as the Senior Pastor at Community Covenant Church in Goleta. In 2002 Dennis and his wife, Susan started Bridges of Hope International, which is based in Santa Barbara. They moved their family to South Africa in 2003 to create a reproducible model of holistic community development that would be effecting in areas that have been ravaged as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. God has blessed the work and the model is reproducing in multiple communities in South Africa and has begun in Swaziland as well. The Wadley's moved back to Santa Barbara in 2008 and Dennis oversees Bridges of Hope as well as serving as senior pastor at Community Covenant Church in Goleta once again.
