Send a textIn this powerful and deeply thoughtful conversation, Joey Pinz sits down with Siddharth “Sid” Karnati, a 16-year-old TEDx speaker, student author, and advocate for youth mental health. What unfolds is a remarkably mature discussion on sports as therapy, emotional resilience, and why performance without well-being is a dangerous trap—especially for teens and parents alike.Sid shares how athletics became his emotional outlet during periods of academic pressure, stress, and uncertainty, giving him structure, connection, and clarity when life felt overwhelming. He explains why consistency matters more than intensity, how team sports create belonging, and why individual sports teach personal accountability. The conversation expands into urgent topics like rising teen suicide rates, social media pressure, burnout culture in schools, and how small routines can protect long-term mental health. Sid also opens up about writing his book Life Is More Than Grades, launching Spectrum Guardians to support neurodiverse students, and using his voice to advocate for empathy-driven leadership. This episode is a reminder that strength isn't about pushing harder—it's about building habits that keep you present, healthy, and connected. A must-listen for parents, educators, teens, and anyone who believes growth should never come at the cost of well-being.

What if leadership isn't about confidence or visibility—but about building systems that expand access for others? In this episode, you'll meet Jiayuan Tian, a social entrepreneur and graduate student at Columbia University SIPA, whose journey through global education reshaped how he understands inequality, opportunity, and leadership. After studying at Minerva University and living across cities around the world, Jiayuan discovered a paradox: the more global his education became, the clearer it was how inaccessible global learning remains for many, often due to invisible barriers like language fluency, insider knowledge, and financial flexibility. That realization led him to co-found OneXplore, a youth-led organization designed to make global learning accessible and humane. Jiayuan shares how his view of leadership has evolved—from personal visibility to leadership as infrastructure: platforms, systems, and cultures that continue to serve people even when the founder steps away. You'll hear why access itself is a leadership issue, why storytelling carries responsibility, and why leadership is always relational. This episode will invite you to rethink how you design opportunities, support young people, and build organizations that endure through shared ownership and trust. Under Jiayuan's leadership, OneXplore has grown into a community of more than 100,000 young people, with partnerships spanning universities, international organizations, embassies, and global nonprofits. You'll discover: How leadership can function as infrastructure, not personalityWhy access—not talent—is often the real barrier to opportunityWhat young leaders need most from mentors and employersHow trust and storytelling shape sustainable organizationsWhy community is foundational to effective leadershipConnect with Jiayuan TianLinkedInCheck out all the episodesLeave a review on Apple PodcastsConnect with Meredith on LinkedIn

Bongani Bingwa speaks to political analyst Sune Payne about the shifting political landscape in South Africa, as a younger and more diverse generation begins to challenge established power structures. With growing frustration over corruption, inequality and failing service delivery, student movements, civic activism and new political formations are reshaping the national conversation around accountability and ethical leadership. They reflect on recent analysis by Daily Maverick that suggests this generational shift could redefine what leadership looks like in South Africa, and debate whether these emerging voices can meaningfully reconnect politics with ordinary citizens, particularly young people and members of the diaspora watching developments from abroad. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. Women represent 77% of the nonprofit workforce, and young people make up 32%. Yet many of the structures and norms that govern the sector were not designed with young leaders in mind. From rigid hierarchies to outdated governance models, barriers still stand in the way of young women, girls, and gender-diverse youth who want to lead. In this episode, we explore what meaningful youth leadership looks like, how funders can better support youth-led initiatives, how youth advisory councils can be powerful vehicles for shifting decision-making, and what systemic changes are needed to share power equitably. They also share personal reflections on their journeys, the barriers they've faced, and the hope they carry for a future shaped by the next generation of changemakers. As South Africa marks 30 years of democracy, the Future Leaders Challenge — a collaboration between AECI, Primestars, and The YouthStart Foundation — is asking young people to step up and lead with purpose. Inspired by icons like Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu, the programme is reaching thousands of high school learners across the country, from Gauteng’s urban centres to rural classrooms in KwaZulu-Natal. Focused on servant leadership, the challenge equips learners to not just imagine a better South Africa, but to actively build it. As the initiative heads towards its leadership summit, one question remains: is the next Mandela already sitting in a Grade 10 class today? 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. From community-led forest conservation in Odisha to negotiating at the United Nations, Archana Soreng embodies how lived experience can reshape global climate policy. An Indigenous climate leader from India's Kharia tribe, Archana served on the UN Secretary-General's Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change (2020–2023), is a Skoll World Forum Fellow (2024), and sits on The Rockefeller Foundation's Climate Advisory Council. She works at the intersection of Indigenous knowledge, youth leadership, and climate governance, advocating for policies that honour land rights, protect biodiversity, and include those most affected in decision-making. In this episode, Archana shares how her community's traditions of forest conservation and sustainable living shaped her vision for climate justice. She explains why free, prior and informed consent and genuine participation are essential, and how poorly designed mitigation like ill-planned plantations or large solar projects can harm adaptation and livelihoods. Drawing on her experience from village gatherings to UN climate negotiations, she reflects on overcoming tokenistic representation, breaking barriers to climate finance for youth and Indigenous groups, and the importance of mental well-being in long struggles for environmental justice. From safeguarding culture and language to influencing national climate commitments, Archana offers a grounded, hopeful blueprint for policymakers, funders, and young leaders working toward an inclusive and sustainable climate future.
