Ryan holds back tears and shrieks as the boys dive into Horror Movie Month.
We start off with LOTS of wedding and reception... and honeymoon... talk! The Geek Question of the Week: What traditional Halloween trope tradition is something you've always wanted to try? Clearly, Sean has had a little more experience here than Connor... In our Roll for Credits segment, we finish off Horror Movie Month and take a look at the 2021 family tragedy horror, Father of Flies! I don't know which was worse, the attempt at horror or the heartbreakingly sad family tragedy. And as always, geekery, video games, and chickens. Lots of chickens. First off, we were joined by Luke, aka Sean's second son and Connor's younger brother. He was in for Connor's wedding so popped on to join us! Let me apologize for audio issues, as Luke's mic was not picking up and we did not realize it until after. Check out his YouTube channel, Experience over Things for everything about the hiker life! Fascinating! The Geek Question of the Week was pretty simple and straightforward: What is a fandom-based or nerdy wedding you would love to be a guest at? Let's just say some interesting combinations were broached! In our Roll for Credits segment, we continue Horror Movie Month and take a look at the 2021 Netflix original good ghost/bad ghost movie... Things Heard & Seen! Connor and Luke certainly seemed to like it better than Sean did... And as always, geekery, video games, and chickens. Lots of chickens. This month fear is front and center as we begin our 2nd annual horror movie fest! As everyone well knows, Anne likes to zig where others zag so this week we are taking a look at the films, "Slumber Party Massacre" and "Slumber Party Massacre 2" (there is a "Slumber Party Massacre 3" for those with who are into self flagellation but we didn't go there). These Roger Corman produced slashers feature a drill bit happy killer and his very dumb high school victims. We'd say keep your eyes covered but these movies telegraph what's about to happen from a mile away - it's pure camp at its low-budget finest. Plus, we discuss the Florida man who tried to escape a hurricane via jet ski, the nursing home who might have gone too far to entertain its residents and CatCon! What is CatCon you might be wondering? Well we did too and were surprised to find an A-list actor at the center of it. Next week we will have director Marc Meyers back on the podcast to discuss his horror film, "We Summon the Darkness". You will not want to miss that - but listen to this one first. It's scary good! Thank you for listening! crissy & anne --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/crissy-shropshire/message
Horror Movie Month has officially begun and the boys are starting it off with a found footage style horror movie exploring the Catacombs beneath the streets of Paris, which is based on the seven layers of Hell. (00:00 - As Above, So Below Review)
The Geek Question of the Week was pretty simple and straightforward: What are your greatest fears and what would it look like if they were combined into one fear? In our Roll for Credits segment, we start Horror Movie Month and take a look at the 2005 psychological horror/creature fest... The Descent! Hope you can see in the dark because THEY can... This week- Horror Movie Month begins! Be you a October Horror Challenge participant or an enthusiast who doesn't go for gimmicks or a fan of kids fright flicks or a connoisseur of the extreme, welcome to the most wonderful time of the year. Someone is killing the staff at Pleasure Island, a sprawling resort owned by former beach bum singer, Coconut Pete. Can the staff hold out until the boat arrives to safely take them back to the mainland? Could the killer be the new magic fingered masseur, Lars? Could it be Coconut Pete's nephew? Will aerobics instructor Jenny survive to take her place as a world beloved exercise guru? Is anywhere safe on Broken Lizard's Club Dread? Perfection, Nevada... a small town with a big problem. Val and Earl have had enough with their lot as handymen, doing every dirty job as it comes up. The boys decide to pack up and head to neighboring Bixby. Unfortunately, they waited a day to long to come to this realization and will soon find everyone between them and freedom has fallen prey to something new. Rhonda, a seismology student conduction a study in the valley, has found some unusual and worrying readings. Survivalists, Burt and Heather Gummer, believe they are prepared for any situation... they are wrong. A b-movie masterpiece and the last practical creature feature before the CG effects boom... Tremors. A squad of British soldiers think they are in the Scottish highlands for a training exercise against a special forces unit. Before long they find only one member of the other squad, alive but grievously wounded. They will soon learn their real reason for being there... as bait for werewolves. Can the squad last the night or will they be taken in the onslaught of teeth and fur? Multiple cult filmmaker Neil Marshall's debut feature, Dog Soldiers. All that and Kevin prepares, Dave misses the joke, and Tyler joins in limited capacity through digital voodoo. Join us, won't you?Episode 277- Deeper Underground
We have been doing our podcast for three and a half years. Much of that time was spent during a global pandemic. We take everything we do on the show serious, but it is also about having fun with friends. We were very pleased to see that our Twitter account that we just started last year has managed to amass 1,000 followers. We are even more excited to announce that we are on the verge of 25,000 downloads. Keep listening to hear about what exciting things we have planned. It is always sad to see your favorite things get worse with time. The Alien franchise has suffered like few others over the decades. This week brought the news that Fede Alavarez would be helming the latest installment. Alvarez has seen his fortunes changes since a strong debut. Is this too combustible of a combination? We also talk about Steven Segal's involvement in the Russian-Ukraine conflict. Our second film for Irish Horror Movies month is 2007's Shrooms. The movie is about a group of college friends who head to Ireland to trip out on mushrooms. Before long, they running for their lives. The film answers a question we posed last week about how much a director has to do when the setting is naturally beautiful. It also reminds audiences of the timelessness of the 1990s and how great the name 'Bluto' is.South by Southwest is back and we begin with one of the most anticipated horror movies coming to the fest. Deadstream is a fun homage to Evil Dead, 80s B horror, and found footage. Is the lead charismatic or cringey? Is it really scary or does it try to be funny?Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Morbidly Beautiful is your one stop shop for all your horror needs. There have been a lot of great horror movies to come out of Ireland. Though we have talked about some of them here and there, we have always wanted to devote a whole month to the subject. We have finally gotten around to it as we begin Irish Horror Movie Month with a look at Boys From County Hell.Vampires seem to be an easy target for comedy horror. There are romantic comedies, family comedies, and spoofs all centered around everyone's favorite bloodsuckers. Boys of County Hell is another in the list, this one with a distinctly Irish feel. One of us was not impressed with its humor, another saw it as a touching coming of age story, while someone else thought it took a while to get going. And yet, we still all agreed on whether others should watch it.Horror movies have always trafficked in the strange and eerie. Agnes is a possession film that takes things to the next level. Genre bending would not be giving this enough credit as it weaves between horror, comedy, character study, and drama during its entire runtime. Of course, when a story makes too many changes, it can lose the audience. This one has one of the strangest tonal shifts you will ever see in a horror movie.AMC was one of our favorite topics when we were unable to leave the house. Well, they are back on our radar again and - SUPRISE! - we have nothing good to say. We found the one group that could ruin our excitement over The Batman.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. So we didn't know that Jennifer's Body was actually a horror-comedy (OK , Jerry knew). Basically, this movie was hilarious, but intentionally so, so it probably doesn't count?...But here it is, Jennifer's Body, episode #3 of Horror Movie Month. It's definitely worth a watch, and don't forget to check out our lively discussion on it afterwards!
Most horror comedies switch modes noticeably - one second you're tense and expecting something scary, the next you're laughing at Marlon Wayans and clown rape. Creepshow is one of our favorite genre splitting movies - the stories are based on simple scares that cut deep: zombies, aliens, drowning, monsters, and bugs. Stephen King features prominently (note: not intended to be a scare, but he scares many people). The film is an homage to the EC horror comics of the 1950s, such as Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror and The Haunt of Fear. Take a load off in your favorite coffin, it's Horror Movie Month!
Happy October!! James and Kelvin intro their horror movie watch party this month talking about Hush, horror movies in general, and what they plan to watch leading up to the world's lamest Halloween. Enjoy!
In our first episode of Horror Movie Month, we have french toast, Melted Witch Martinis, and a whole lot of Halloween wordplay. We discover that Hope knows a lot about steel mills (for some reason), and that Summer really, really likes Halloween. So stay tuned for some frighteningly funny content all October long, and find out why Jerry likes bad horror movies so much. Maybe we all will by the end of the month.
We're kicking off Horror Movie Month with a pair of cabin in the woods horror-comedies, The Cabin in the Woods and Tucker and Dale vs Evil. We all float down here, in the darkness of the rather disturbing themes of the remake of Stephen King's It. This episode kicks off a very special themed Horror Movie Month here at the HMWG Podcast! We are back! It's October and that means it's time for our 3rd annual Horror Movie Month! We aren't cool enough for a treehouse, and we can't do a FearFest like AMC, so let's split the difference and start it off with The Shining! Released in May 1980, this had all the hallmarks of a summer movie tentpole: elevators full of blood, a drunk who falls off the wagon, and of course, twins! Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 novel is one of the most popular King adaptations to date, and even though there are differences to be found, it's a fantastic example of what can go right when creative (and spiritual) forces collide!
October is just about over, Halloween is approaching and soon we will have nothing to do but transition into Christmas movies. We say goodbye to Horror Movie Month in a strange fashion with Erik's pick this week. Sega CD seems to come up a lot on this show as a reference of quality so Erik decided to choose the 1992 Sega CD release Night Trap. We know this is not a MOVIE but we viewed it as if it were one anyway. There are a lot of different versions of this on YouTube and you can see the one we watched above. Ryan of Fat Foot Films came on to talk about this his experiences actually playing AND beating this game. Overall it was kind of weird but we somehow managed to cram this in to our format. Happy Halloween! secondclasscinema.com@2ndClassPodcast
We are keeping up with Horror Movie Month by watching a DOOOOOUBLE FEEEEEATURE! We watched May and The Loved Ones, a couple of SCAAAAARY LAAAAAADIES! We had b-movie professional and our friend Fallon come on to help us dive deep in to the insanity of a woman.secondclasscinema.com@2ndClassPodcast
HAPPY BACK TO THE FUTURE DAY! In this special episode, we're interrupting our Horror Movie Month to discuss one of the best sequels ever released, and one that predicted a number of important technological achievements (which came true!). Anyways, enough of this, you know what it is, get to listening!
Keeping on with Horror Movie Month, we watched something a little more traditional in style, kind of. Tom picked the 1987 sci-fi/horror movie The Kindred! This was an interesting watch for us because we really had no clue what we were getting in to. Brandon came on to help us discuss this movie, and this is one of his personal favorites. He even brought an old Fangoria magazine that had an article about this movie. Where do you think this movie will measure on the Fuck scale?secondclasscinema.com@2ndClassPodcast
Welcome to our second annual Horror Movie Month! First up on Ye Olde Chopping Blocke: SCREAM! Wes Craven is the only logical jumping-off point here, considering his 1996 hit horror movie single-handedly revived the horror genre for the new millennium! Who can forget the opening scene with Drew Barrymore, or the unforgettable twist at the end? Simultaneously jump-starting the careers of Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, Scream is one of the finest achievements of Wes Craven's career. We will miss him dearly...
OCTOBER IS HERE!!! That means horror movies and so this is Horror Movie Month... OBVIOUSLY! Tom picked the 2012 Irish slasher/clown movie Stitches to kick it off. We all pretty much went in to one side on this rating. What side do you think our ratings fell on? Listen up as Tyler comes on and helps us discuss this insane clown picture.
Episode 6 finds the 5th Wall in 1968, with George A Romero's classic zombie masterpiece Night of the Living Dead! Clay brings the big guns on this second episode of Horror Movie Month with some deep knowledge of the genre (zombie films) and favorite subject (zombies)! If you watch The Walking Dead and haven't seen this movie, you're doing yourself a grave disservice! Now remember, when you're boarding up a house, make sure you number the planks!
