Today on Art of the Cut, we talk with editor Jamie Kirkpatrick, ACE and one of his assistant editors, Amanda K. Romero about editing the film, Greedy People. Jamie's been on Art of the Cut previously for his work on the film Critical Thinking. His other films include Old Henry, My Friend Dahmer, and We Summon the Darkness. Amanda has previously edited the feature films False Pretenses and Bedside, and the TV series Londyn and Philly D.A. We're going to be discussing how balancing tone in a black comedy is deadly business, why finding temp from similar movies doesn't necessarily work, and how you make the move from un-scripted editor to scripted assistant Also, you can read along and see pictures of Jamie and Amanda, Jamie's cutting room, and the timeline and Productions window from Adobe Premiere for the movie. borisfx.com/blog/aotc
Mark and Zanandi (@ZaNandi on Twitter) have covered a lot of beautiful horror films since 2019, and they decided to pit them against each other in a tournament of doom. In this episode, they have an incredibly hard time picking a winner because The Dark and the Wicked, The Blackcoat's Daughter, Scream (1996), Doctor Sleep, We Summon the Darkness, Trollhunter, The Wolf of Snow Hollow, Jason X, Devil, Underwater and Candyman (1992) are really cool films. Today on Art of the Cut, one of the most talked about films at the moment, the horror film, Barbarian, currently on HBOMax. With us to discuss this film today is Art of the Cut's first-ever guest host: multi-Emmy-winning editor, Stephanie Filo, ACE. Steph has been a guest on the show before and I saw her post several times about this film on Twitter as a self-proclaimed "fan-girl" of the film, so I thought with her knowledge of editing and her love of the film, she'd be the perfect co-host. Also with me are the film's writer/director, Zach Cregger and the film's editor Joe Murphy. Joe and I have one degree of imdb separation as we've both co-edited with Jamie Kirkpatrick. Stephanie Filo, ACE - my co-host - has edited A Black Lady Sketch Show, for which she won multiple Emmys and was nominated for an ACE Eddie. She also won a Peabody Award for her editing of the documentary Surviving R. Kelly. And edited the recent Dahmer series available on Netflix. Zach Cregger is probably best-known as an actor in TV series like The Whitest Kids U Know, and Wrecked, and the feature films, Miss March and College. Joe Murphy's credits as editor include the feature films Swallow, Don't Come Back from the Moon, We Summon the Darkness and The Sound and the Fury. Also, TV series like Kingpin and A Friend of the Family.
This week is a real treat, no tricks! We welcome back to the podcast director, Marc Meyers to discuss his horror film, "We Summon the Darkness" from 2019. This is horror imbued with humor - the best kind in our humble opinion. And with all sorts of movies and documentaries about Jeffrey Dahmer having a moment, we decided to also talk to Marc about his film, "My Friend Dahmer" which is the only film that can claim to have actually shot in Jeffrey Dahmer's childhood home. That is spooky in and of itself. This is a real peek behind the curtain of movie making. We've got questions and Marc is answering all of them. So if you've been sick of hearing just Anne and Crissy blather on for the last few months, then this is the episode for you. We only blather for half the time while Marc takes the spotlight. This is a good one! crissy & anne --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/crissy-shropshire/message
This month fear is front and center as we begin our 2nd annual horror movie fest! As everyone well knows, Anne likes to zig where others zag so this week we are taking a look at the films, "Slumber Party Massacre" and "Slumber Party Massacre 2" (there is a "Slumber Party Massacre 3" for those with who are into self flagellation but we didn't go there). These Roger Corman produced slashers feature a drill bit happy killer and his very dumb high school victims. We'd say keep your eyes covered but these movies telegraph what's about to happen from a mile away - it's pure camp at its low-budget finest. Plus, we discuss the Florida man who tried to escape a hurricane via jet ski, the nursing home who might have gone too far to entertain its residents and CatCon! What is CatCon you might be wondering? Well we did too and were surprised to find an A-list actor at the center of it. Next week we will have director Marc Meyers back on the podcast to discuss his horror film, "We Summon the Darkness". You will not want to miss that - but listen to this one first. It's scary good! Thank you for listening! crissy & anne --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/crissy-shropshire/message
Recorded on Saturday September 10th and Sunday September 18th, 2022 What up, fans? That Horror Show Podcast is back with another brand new episode off the assembly line, so grab your headphones, pour your drink of choice and give this one a spin! Show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig tackle a horror double-feature of Satanic proportions! Listen in as the hosts give their take on the topsy-turvy nuttiness that is "Satanic Panic" (2019), and then our dynamic reviewers talk about the rather sedate "We Summon the Darkness" (2019) and marvel at the fact that a near unrecognizable Johnny Knoxville participated in a horror movie. So if you want to know what our take is on these two movies, well...ah, comon, you already know what you have to do! #SatanicPanic #WeSummonTheDarkeness #THSP
This week on the Stab-Cast show, Daniel and Mindy reviewed We Summon the Darkness.
In this week's episode, we're discussing fake Satan, fake metal and fake 20-somethings in the 2019 horror film "We Summon the Darkness." Special topics for your consideration include: the joy of watching people have fun, quality crazy faces, disappointing M. Night Shyamalan, sartorial inaccuracies of every g.d. movie about the Satanic Panic, more hard-to-pronounce words, the long-lasting effects of that one Dee Snider movie and the fact that we kept calling this "the Johnny Knoxville horror movie" even though he's in like, three scenes and is pretty questionable in each. Like movies about Satan? Good, that's a lot of horror! Maybe you'd just enjoy some movies we referenced in this episode: Episode 127- "The House of the Devil," Episode 176- "Strangeland," Episode 315-"Knock Knock" and Episode 343- "Black Roses." Nick and Mary join Caitlin to talk about 2019's We Summon the Darkness. That crackling you hear? Oh, that's just us sitting around a bonfire playing Never Have I Ever, just like the characters in the movie. Definitely not a mic malfunction of any kind. (It was resolved in the end!) We had a great time covering the movie and doing a deep dive on the Satanic Panic. And this is our first movie with a final boy!

Working from home, Jamie Kirkpatrick edited a solid, tight Western script that was proposed to him as “a Wal-Mart movie,” only to realize from the dailies that it was actually turning into a great movie. Months later, after successful reviews from the Venice Film Festival, writer-director Potsy Ponciroli's Western is in theaters and one of the year's best movies. In particular, one of the influences for the movie discussed between editor and director was Kevin Costner's underrated, last directorial outing, Open Range, and in particular its messy gunfight finale. On this episode, joined by Ted Haycraft, we discuss:- The wide list of Westerns Kirkpatrick studied while editing, from Blazing Saddles to Pale Rider;- two editors shop talk, particularly about editing a film remotely frame-by-frame on software that lags significantly;- then they talk shop more, particularly about Kirkpatrick's short editing schedule for Old Henry;- and then, somehow, they talk more editorial shop.Also:- Kevin Costner's tiny directorial trilogy of lengthy, cinematically-informed films, which talk back to film history;- why certain perfectly-great film's Oscar success hurts them in posterity, when they won over other beloved films (Dances With Wolves v. GoodFellas);- how many bullets are actually in a movie six-shooter, at least from an editor's standpoint;- and also: more editors' shop talk.Jamie Kirkpatrick is a New York-based editor and filmmaker. His feature editing credits include Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Ed Burns' The Groomsmen, My Friend Dahmer, We Summon the Darkness, and Critical Thinking.Open Range is available digitally to rent or buy.Old Henry is currently playing in select theaters.

Teil zwei des Drei-teiligen Halloween Special. Heute präsentiert euch Spooky Sebastian einen neueren Horrorfilm aus dem Jahr 2019, der in den 80ern spielt. Es geht um We Summon the Darkness. Hier eine fette Spoiler Warnung, denn man kann schlecht über diesen Film reden ohne auf seine Wendungen einzugehen.
If you're anything like us, today's double feature is going to make you wanna wear a leather jacket. Candace and Ariel are joined - for the second time - by author, blogger, and Twitter-famous person Jessica Guess to talk about 2019 Satanic horror comedies Satanic Panic, and We Summon the Darkness. These movies have a ton in common: murderous cults, rock n roll, great hair, 80's aesthetics, if not necessarily actual 80's settings. We'll tackle some important issues in this one, such as compulsory heterosexuality, characterizing virgins, the difference between Baphomet and Satan himself, realistic atmosphere for a midwestern road trip, and whether it's a good idea to go on the lam with someone who just tried to freaking murder you. If you don't trust us to tell you about this stuff, trust Jessica. She got a retweet from Stephen King. Jessica Guess is a writer and English teacher who hails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She earned her Creative Writing MFA from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2018 and is the founder of the website Black Girl's Guide to Horror where she examines horror movies in terms of quality and intersectionality. Her creative work has been featured in Luna Station Quarterly and Tor Nightfire. Her debut novella, Cirque Berserk, is available for purchase on Amazon. Her short story, “The Nightmare Man,” appears in Shiver: A Cold Weather Horror Anthology. A proud part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Our drive for intersectionality aligns well with the Morbidly Beautiful ethos. We love that MB is a nonprofit that gives back to the horror community, and are thrilled to be a part of the network! Already critically notorious, I was still impressed by how awful and cringe-inducing this latest from the master of Oscar bait and the worst half of trite-Spielberg, Ron Howard, was. Not so much toe curling as shin snapping, Howard's worst ever manages to make Cleetus from the Simpsons seem subtle and deep. Glenn Close will likely win an Oscar but this soft-core poverty porn is the years most misguided film, the Hallmark greeting card version of Winter's Bone, with very little story and a central character who is almost entirely unsympathetic. A front runner for worst film of the year and taken all in all (including the intent of the story arc versus what it actually achieves) - the years second (Hard Kill not included as it isn't a real film) big fat zero out of ten (after We Summon the Darkness).

Sound the alarms! This is it, the actual regular episode recorded for the month of October! After our recommendations for Halloween (heard last bonus episode) Chris, Mike, and Josh talk about some things coming out on streaming, we discuss Verotika, Chris visits We Summon the Darkness now that it's on Netflix to see if he agrees with Mike from a few episodes ago, we do the Series Spotlight on the Re-Animator series, and wrap up this episode with the Assignment: Under the Skin. The month that gives us Halloween deserves for us to give it an extra long episode so listen and join in on the discussion with us. We discuss so much nonsense that you all must have something to say about SOMETHING we said! Enjoy!

2019's We Summon the Darkness Three best friends embark on a road trip to a heavy-metal show, where they bond with three aspiring musicians and head off to one of the girls' country home for an after-party. We review this not very good, or campy, or fun movie. But boy did Alexis fly through the air. Cheapseat Reviews the podcast that explores the Hollywood film industry for the greater good.
The second Shocktober movie for 2020 is a late 2019 addition. A film called We Summon the Darkness. It's not rare for heavy metal to sneak into a horror film, but is this movie metal enough? This week we review the 2020 satanic metal-head slasher flick "We Summon the Darkness." A group of boys and girls meet up outside of a show for their favorite metal band. After the show, they decide to meet up for a nightcap and then the killings commence. Super gory kills and some tense moments punctuate this modern day splatter flick. Did we love it? The only reason you ever came across this no-rent endeavor were the combination of Bruce Willis and a zero on Rotten Tomatoes. I struggled to give it a zero myself as unlike We Summon the Darkness, it didn't really earn it, though alongside The Prince it, I think, makes him the only double recipient of a 0/10 on this podcast. But it's not really a movie, more a filmed paintball session.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to our week in geek. The quarantine continues on and we continue podcasting. We're sticking to the formula of one streaming review as we discuss the We Summon the Darkness on Netflix, talk about a few more nerd news topics and postponements. We wrap everything up by answering last week's podquestion of "which action figure do you want?" Next week's streaming review we're dividing and conquering by watching movies that maybe one of us has seen but the other hasn't. Bat will be watching JoJo Rabbit and I will be watching the original Karate Kid. You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or HBOMAX. Please send your suggestions to us using any of the means below.
