On the twenty-sixth night of our #31DaysToHalloween the Mister and KT join me in reviewing TUCKER AND DALE vs EVIL (2010), from writers Eli Craig and Morgan Jurgenson, the film is directed by Eli Craig. Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine), two kind-hearted but stereotypical-looking "hillbillies," head to their newly purchased vacation cabin in the woods for a relaxing fishing trip and some home renovation. Their peaceful getaway is interrupted by a group of college students who, due to a series of hilarious and increasingly gruesome misunderstandings, become convinced that Tucker and Dale are murderous backwoods killers. As the terrified college students attempt to "fight back" or "rescue" their friends, they accidentally cause a series of bizarre and bloody fatalities, leaving the baffled and innocent duo struggling to figure out why these kids are killing themselves all over their property. The film clocks in at 1 h and 29 m, is rated R and we caught it on Prime Video but you can find it on the Hoopla app as well as Hulu, Pluto TV, Roku Channel, Tubi and to buy/rent on Prime Video. Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and his best pal Dale (Tyler Labine) are starting their dream vacation. Tucker just spent his savings by purchasing a fixer-upper cabin in the woods. They want to spend their time fishing, relaxing and drinking some beers. There are stories and rumors of some sort of a woodsy massacre from years past, but that won't stop these two from living their best lives. What will try to stop them is a bunch of Chad-bros led by Chad (Jesse Moss). They mistake the harmless duo as a pair of backwoods psychos! When Tucker and Dale save Allison (Katrina Bowden) from drowning, Chad and the crew take their paranoia to dangerous levels (for themselves). RTS performs a lovely chainsaw ballet amongst the trees. Jeremy learns how heavy half a guy really is. La-Mar successfully escapes a swarm of bees. Emily sensibly decides to stay at a hotel up the road. It includes a pool and a continental breakfast. Be mindful of the woodchipper!

"Kinda Scary Movie Month" is in full swing and this week we're talking about the comedy/horror romp TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL. We're defending the innocent college kids who interpreted events very reasonably, criticising hillbillies who, at the very least, are guilty of severe OSHA violations and discussing how losing consciousness is a major medical emergency. If Club Dread was a traditional slasher parody, Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil takes things in a different direction by upending the usual formulas; instead of college co-eds being the targets, they become the killers in this comedy about a giant misunderstanding. We talk about the hilarious circumventing of tropes, the great 2010s feel, and how well the conceit orks over a full-length film. Joining us is the incomparable Cris Olvera — Corpus Christi-based artist, designer, horror expert, and one of our favorite conversationalists. Cris brings sharp insights and a lot of laughs as we dig into how these films balance gore, satire, and surprisingly tender moments. And of course, we had beers in hand:

We're back in the deep dark woods for 2010 horror comedy “Tucker & Dale Vs Evil”. A film in which we learn the pitfalls of a “fixer-upper” for the first-time buyer; observe the dangers of mixing chainsaws with bees; and you can actively hate the clueless teens (even more so than usual). Based on a simple but hilarious premise; “Tucker & Dale…” manages to sustain it for pretty much the whole of its runtime, with a necessary swing into more familiar horror territory for the last act. The heart of the film lays with its (wonderfully portrayed) titular characters; a refreshingly sweet, honest and hilarious double act, who you cannot help but love and root for as they blunder through an increasingly ludicrous series of coincidences and misunderstandings. Watch (or re-watch) to avoid spoilers and join us.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2011) is a horror-comedy that flips the usual "backwoods killer" trope on its head. It follows two well-meaning but misunderstood hillbillies, Tucker and Dale, who just want to fix up their cabin in the woods. But when a group of college students mistakenly assume they're dangerous killers, a series of absurd and darkly funny misunderstandings ensues. The film blends humor and horror, using clever twists and character mix-ups to keep the laughs and thrills coming. To hear our reviews and ratings before you watch , jump to 00:50:55

Ever wondered what happens when a horror film flips the script and turns into a comedy of errors? Join us as we unpack "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil," a movie that hilariously twists slasher tropes into a bloody comedy goldmine. You'll learn why two seemingly typical hillbillies, Tucker and Dale, have become the unlikely heroes of a cult classic through a series of misunderstood mishaps. From Eli Craig's clever direction to the film's unique charm, we promise you'll never look at horror the same way again.Expect plenty of laughs as we recount our initial misconceptions about this movie and how it caught us off guard with its mix of cringe-worthy yet lovable moments. Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine shine as the titular characters, bringing a fresh and light-hearted twist to horror that's right up there with "Zombieland" and "Shaun of the Dead." We dive into how the film handles themes of prejudice and misunderstanding, and why it stands out in a genre full of jump scares and gore. Our discussion takes a turn towards the greater horror landscape, exploring where horror-comedy fits in alongside genre staples like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Scream." We wrap up with our personal ratings for "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil," assessing its parody prowess and its place within our series of reviews. Letterbox'd Synopsis: Two hillbillies are suspected of being killers by a group of paranoid college kids camping near the duo's West Virginian cabin. As the body count climbs, so does the fear and confusion as the college kids try to seek revenge against the pair.
