The legend in the small, coastal town of Antonio Bay is of a ship lured to the land and swallowed up by a mysterious thick cloud as it sank. The locals say when the fog returns, the dead will arise from their watery graves.The Fog, directed by John Carpenter, fits quite nicely into Retro Reel 2025. It stars horror greats such as Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, and Hal Holbrook and like most Carpenter films, features an electric soundtrack. The film gives off eerie vibes and has multiple character stories that are bridged together quite nicely as the secrets of Antonio Bay are revealed throughout the movie. While the film is not without its flaws, it's fun to watch a mystery, ghost story, and revenge plot all wrapped into one. The two come across the iconic Conal Cochran, the town's cult leader/resident witch (ala season of the witch). His evil plan to, stay with us now: murder all the children in America via lasers and bugs given through Halloween masks that were augmented by a piece of Stonehedge that he stole all with the help of his AI humanoid robots *deep breathe in* is revealed and Dr. Challis has to fight to save them all from prankster death! We've got 80's sex scenes, random butts, and lots of death in this Halloween movie that features absolutely no Michael Myers! Released in 1982, it stars Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelkin, Dan O'Herlihy, Michael Currie, and Nancy Kyes.

Send us a textThe Fog is a sleeper in John Carpenter's canon. The soundtrack is not! This 1980 movie demands your attention with a stacked cast (see what I did there) of Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hal Holbrook, Tom Atkins, Janet Leigh, John Houseman, and of course Tommy Lee Wallace. Beautifully shot and scored on a modest budget, this movie has aged like a fine wine. So many films that were critically panned have become classics over time, and John Carpenter has his share in that column. Which is a shame. I'm sure that had he been embraced as the master he was/is, we'd have more of these gems to enjoy. Creeping death to us all.
