We're back with May's Listener's Choice episode—shoutout to @moon.cherie1, @tmdbpodcast, and @elenablvck_ for the pick! For our “Ghosts & Ghouls!!!” theme, we're diving straight into The Fog (1980)…As a tiny California coastal town gears up for its centenary celebrations, the vibes take a sharp turn: objects start moving on their own, Rev. Malone uncovers a not-so-cute secret about the town's past, Stevie Wayne spots a very ominous fire, and poor Elizabeth stumbles across a very dead fisherman. And then? A glowing, mysterious fog rolls in…We dig into everything—the vengeful ghosts terrorising Antonio Bay, KAB Radio holding it down, and the one and only legend Stevie Wayne, plus a delightfully chaotic group of locals all trying to figure out what this fog's deal actually is.We must discuss Tom Atkins and Jamie Lee Curtis' truly baffling whirlwind romance. Sir. Be honest. How are you pulling this off?!?!Thanks so much for listening! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and can you hear what I hear? I hear it's after Thanksgiving now and I need to fit in some retro review of movies that could really be Christmas movies, just in an action movie's clothing. In this episode, we find “Lethal Weapon” first under the Christmas tree. I mean, the movie has a Christmas song playing over its opening credits for God sakes! “Lethal Weapon” was a surprise action hit in 1987 that paired Mel Gibson with Danny Glover as L.A. detectives Riggs and Murtaugh. The movie started a trend of hundreds of copycat buddy-cop movies faster than Santa deliver presents on Christmas. The “fun” starts in the movie when the daughter of an old Vietnam buddy of Murtaugh's is found dead. As Riggs and Murtaugh investigate into the death further, they uncover a network of bad little elves delivering drugs from overseas for all the bad little boys and girls. All this happening while Murtaugh has to deal with Riggs' reckless, death wish behavior over the death of his wife. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas with this movie! Is this a Christmas movie? Find out on this episode of Movies Merica! “Lethal Weapon” also stars Gary Busey, Mitchell Ryan, Tom Atkins, Darlene Love, Traci Wolfe, Jackie Swanson, Damon Hines, Ebonie Smith, Mary Ellen Trainor, Steve Kahan, Jack Thibeau, Grand L. Bush and Ed O'Ross. Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

THE SWIMMER (1968) We dive deep in to The Swimmer and discuss and analyze, maybe just a little bit the glorious film directed by Frank Perry, based on a screenplay by Eleanor Perry, from the 12 page short story by John Cheever. "Well-off ad man Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) is visiting a friend when he notices the abundance of backyard pools that populate their upscale suburb. Ned suddenly decides that he'd like to travel the eight miles back to his own home by simply swimming across every pool in town."If you're reading this I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Cooper and Nolan are heading back out to sea for another season when they cover the winner of this year's audience poll - John Carpenter's THE FOG! This cult classic was criminally underrated at the time of its release despite featuring a who's who cast of horror veterans, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Adrienne Barbeau, and Tom Atkins (but somehow NOT his trademark moustache). Could a slow build, various plot holes, and lack of backstory for the main characters explain why critics were turned off by this one? The guys make arguments for all three while also debating ghost motivation, whether or not the townsfolk deserved their fate, and - once again - if there's such a thing as an 80s perv.  You might not be able to see it, but there's plenty more out there to discover; this SEASON PREMIERE episode (featuring a beer from the Bickford Brewing Co.) is one fog you won't mind wading through!

The Blind Rage podcast: Horror Movie Commentaries

Before SLITHER slimed its way onto screens and THE FACULTY made you question your high school staff, there was NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, a glorious midnight movie that dares to ask, “What if alien brain slugs turned frat bros into the undead?” Spoiler alert: it's as amazing as it sounds. When a frozen corpse from 1959 thaws out in the ‘80s, it unleashes a parasitic plague of space slugs that turn people into mindless, worm-barfing zombies. Enter Detective Cameron (the legendary Tom Atkins), a hard-drinking, one-liner-spouting badass who's seen enough horror to know that things are about to go from bad to thrill me. Meanwhile, our hapless heroes—an awkward college freshman and his wisecracking best friend—find themselves in a fight for survival against an army of tuxedo-wearing, dance-crashing corpses. This movie has everything: axe-wielding zombies, flamethrowers, exploding heads, and Tom Atkins effortlessly stealing every scene. If you're into pure B-movie bliss, this one's for you.

The legend in the small, coastal town of Antonio Bay is of a ship lured to the land and swallowed up by a mysterious thick cloud as it sank. The locals say when the fog returns, the dead will arise from their watery graves. The Fog, directed by John Carpenter, fits quite nicely into Retro Reel 2025. It stars horror greats such as Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, and Hal Holbrook and like most Carpenter films, features an electric soundtrack. The film gives off eerie vibes and has multiple character stories that are bridged together quite nicely as the secrets of Antonio Bay are revealed throughout the movie. While the film is not without its flaws, it's fun to watch a mystery, ghost story, and revenge plot all wrapped into one. Comedian Andrew Manning & host of The Thing Is... (Ding!) Shannon Lee join Zac Amico this week for a highly requested and fan-picked Halloween episode! From an alien-deposited slithering seed comes a frightening and mind-controlling parasite. Entering orally and decaying morally, this slugfest culminates on a college campus with some of the best cinematography and gore combined. Tom Atkins (also in "The Fog") steals the screen in this Fred Dekker masterpiece. It's none other than Night of the Creeps!Original Air Date: 11/01/24Support Our Sponsors! This episode of Zac Amico's Midnight Spook Show is brought to you by Emotionally Conflicted. Movie Mindset 14 - Halloween Sex God: A Tom Atkins Double Feature

[Note: these Movie Mindset Horrortober Season 1 episodes were already unlocked for free this year over on the Patreon feed, just adding them to the public feed to make them more widely available. To get every Movie Mindset episode, subscribe at patreon.com/chapotraphouse.] Will & Hesse look at two starring God Tom Atkins: John Carpenter's “The Fog” (1980) & Tommy Lee Wallace's “Halloween III: Season of the Witch”. Also a Carpenter double feature of sorts, one from the director himself, and one continuing from his iconic Halloween (1978) film as he intended the franchise to be, an anthology. The Fog is a true American ghost story wrestling with monstrous crimes of our past, and Halloween III is an outrageous gorefest with one of the most infamously ludicrous plots in all horror cinema. Tom Atkins plays an everyman sex symbol in both, laying pipe as he's terrorized by ghosts & robots through anonymous northern California towns. Note: Will promised we'd timestamp the Tom Atkins Ass Shot in the description. I do not have time to do that this evening. Sorry.

Aftermath in Ontario, California, executive producer Michael Roffman had a chance to sit down with Hollywood legends Nick Castle and Tom Atkins for a career-spanning interview that went in all sorts of unpredictable places. Naturally, all three head to Haddonfield together to talk shop about the Halloween franchise. Consider it a kickoff to October!
