Welcome To Horror Presents: “The Casebook of We Have Been Watching”. To kick off the new year, it's time for another round up of the team's recent eye-musings. This episode we pay close attention to Robert Eggers' “Nosferatu” (which, at time of recording, Adam and Chris had seen) and the BBC's latest Ghost Story for Christmas: “Woman of Stone (which, at time of recording, Adam and Lee had seen). We also touch upon Disney's “The Black Cauldron” (1985); Shudder's “To Fire You Come At Last” and “Black Cab” (both 2024); “Dr Terrible's House of Horrible” (2001); the first episode of “Squid Game” series 2; “The Faculty” (1998); “Boys From County Hell” (2020) and animated anthology series “Red Iron Road”. No need to prep for this ep, but listeners beware, as here be (possible) spoilers and (definite) swearing. Join us!

Our special guest is back for a second installment, so we decided to show her exactly what Steve and Brandon put themselves through each week by playing a movie that is waaayyy less competently done than last week's episode. But first, we talk about our #dreams for a bit and look for a little analysis. Killer Kites: Abby receives a crappy plastic kite as part of her grandmother's estate. Unbeknownst to Abby, this isn't just some ordinary kite. It is a blood-thirsty communist PInko kite set on the destruction of capitalist society. After the mysterious death of her brother, Abby has to assemble a crack squad to combat the Red Kite menace. Boys From County Hell final grade: Steve An upper-echelon movie for the ultra-low-budget set. I was entertained. Jokes hit. The movie's lead star was better than expected. 4.0/5.0 Brandon A good way to kill an hour or so. Not my favorite of the micro-budget movies, though, so have to rank it lower than some others. 3.5/5.0 Amanda I was entertained by the absurdity, but the story itself was underdeveloped. It left me with a lot of unanswered questions. 3.2/5.0 Cocktail of the Week: Plastic Kite 1 1/2 oz Bourbon 3/4 oz Amaro 1/4 oz Campari 3/4 oz Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice 1/4 oz Simple Syrup Combine everything in a cocktail shaker. Shake to chill and combine. Serve in a martini glass. As usual, feel free to chill the glass if you want. Double strain it if you want. Garnish if you want. Make it your own. Cocktail Grade: A good variation of the more famous Paper Plane. Even our non-bourbon-fan control group said the drink was "not terrible." Bourbon fans will give it higher marks. 4/5 ------------------ Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to: boozeandbmovies@gmail.com X: @boozeandbmovies Instagram: @boozeandbmovies Threads: @boozeandbmovies www.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boozeandbmovies/support

Maybe if we watch a movie from #Ireland, more Irish folks with tune in, huh? Or maybe since it's from Northern Ireland, it doesn't count? Who knows? We're just trying to get a listener from Connacht anyway. We've also got a special guest with us this week, one of our most enthusiastic listeners, probably because she's Brandon's sister and is just being nice and supportive. But, it is nice to have someone else to talk to. Boys From County Hell: When the construction of a highway bypass disturbs the site of an ancient Irish scary creature, the Abhartach, is released on the nearby population. The guy can suck the blood right outta ya from 100 yards away, unless you're an important character in the movie. Boys From County Hell final grade: Steve A middle of the road movie for me. It's too well-done to rate any higher than average on our scale of budget vs shittyness vs accidental awesomeness. Points deducted for competent filmmaking. 3.1/5.0 Brandon A well-done movie that hits the right notes on my subjective and fluid list of requirements. Ridiculous scenes, enough successful jokes. Bonus points for not being made in the US. 4.0/5.0 Amanda Not the type of movie I usually watch, but this one was pretty good. Got some laughs. I wonder if fictional pub "The Stoker" has good fish-n-chips? Don't want to give the same score my brother did, because he's a big poopy head, so 3.99/5.0 Cocktail of the Week: Vampire's Kiss 1 1/2 oz Bourbon 1 oz Chambord, old-ass or otherwise 1/2 oz Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice 1/2 oz Cranberry Juice 1/2 oz Fancy-ass Grenadine Brandon's mom's raspberry jelly Rim a martini glass with Brandon's Mom's Raspberry Jelly, if you can get ahold of it, or use your own. Combine everything in a cocktail shaker. Shake to chill and combine. Serve in a martini glass. Chill the glass if you want. Double strain it if you want. Whatever. Cocktail Grade: A decent-enough cocktail that maybe be negatively impacted by the fact that Steve's bottle of Chambord is from the Reagan Administration. But definitely worth a try, since Amanda, a non-bourbon drinker even said it was "not bad." 3.8/5 ------------------ Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to: boozeandbmovies@gmail.com X: @boozeandbmovies Instagram: @boozeandbmovies Threads: @boozeandbmovies www.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boozeandbmovies/support

Get your green on and grab a bottle of your favorite Irish whiskey because it's time for our annual trip to the Emerald Isle to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with The Grave Plot Podcast! Before we get to Ireland, though, we have to make a stop in London to examine a local pub haunted by the ghost of a very particular barkeep in Real World Horror. For Horror Business, we discuss the latest film from Monkeypaw Productions, a pair of remakes from Lionsgate, and a possible fourth installment in the X franchise. We also examine the upcoming comic adaptation of Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein" as well as a new TV series from Ryan Murphy. For our film reviews, we follow the rainbow to find not a pot of gold, but a giant hairy monster by the name of Rawhead Rex, who stalks the countryside with glowing red eyes and a mouth that doesn't close. Speaking of monsters, we also try to avoid getting our blood drained by the vampires in Boys From Country Hell. So get your four leafed clover and prepare to get lucky with The Grave Plot Podcast, and may the road rise to meet ya!

Another year ending means another Wrap Up episode where we go over our top picks for the year, as well as discussing some other titles we've seen in 2023. While most of the films we do cover here as our favorite viewings for this year are from the last few years, they are not all from 2023. But as we've pointed out many times before, if you're watching it for the first time, no matter when it was released, as far as we're concerned, it still counts as a new movie to you! 2023 has been a great year for the horror genre, especially when you look outside the U.S., which we all hope everyone out there does, because there are some incredible titles coming from Spain, Malaysia, Argentina, Japan, and more. So hopefully our listeners are not restrainted by films that are "only in English", because those folks are sadly missing out on some incredible cinema.  For this episode, we strongly suggest you have a notepad and pen close by to jot down some titles because we think we're going to give you more than a few that we feel you should be checking out. And a special HUGE thanks to those that continue to tune in and listen to us ramble on about the genre we love. With this being our 60th episode, it seems our following is growing day by day, so thank you for your continued support and in 2024, we'll continue to help you Discover the Horror! It's not like the franchise could ever really be accused of "trying," but this movie would be bad even by porn standards if there were any actual sex in it. There have been a lot of great horror movies to come out of Ireland. Though we have talked about some of them here and there, we have always wanted to devote a whole month to the subject. We have finally gotten around to it as we begin Irish Horror Movie Month with a look at Boys From County Hell.Vampires seem to be an easy target for comedy horror. There are romantic comedies, family comedies, and spoofs all centered around everyone's favorite bloodsuckers. Boys of County Hell is another in the list, this one with a distinctly Irish feel. One of us was not impressed with its humor, another saw it as a touching coming of age story, while someone else thought it took a while to get going. And yet, we still all agreed on whether others should watch it.Horror movies have always trafficked in the strange and eerie. Agnes is a possession film that takes things to the next level. Genre bending would not be giving this enough credit as it weaves between horror, comedy, character study, and drama during its entire runtime. Of course, when a story makes too many changes, it can lose the audience. This one has one of the strangest tonal shifts you will ever see in a horror movie.AMC was one of our favorite topics when we were unable to leave the house. Well, they are back on our radar again and - SUPRISE! -  we have nothing good to say. There have been hundreds of different takes on vampires on television and film but writer and director Chris Baugh had never seen anything set against the backdrop of his home in Northern Ireland. That's why he decided to take a stab at a script based around his home country but while everybody knows that “Dracula” author Bram Stoker is Irish, there's far less knowledge surrounding the influence an ancient Irish legend supposedly had on him while writing one of the definitive horror novels in history. A blood-drinking fiend called Abhartach was one of the first ever stories about an undead creature rising from its grave and the original stories told about how he could only be killed by a particular type of wood, which led to the theory that it gave Stoker an idea for the creature he would write about in his book. Baugh ran with that idea while adding mythology about a small town in Ireland where the people felt shortchanged after their local legend was all but swallowed up thanks to Stoker's novel that sparked a century's long obsession with vampires. The finish product involved a group of locals who accidentally awaken the ancient evil living under their town and the fight to keep Abhartach from feasting on every one of them…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to order up some pints and gather some stones as we review the 2021 horror-comedy “Boys from County Hell”…

Chris Baugh is an Irish writer and director who made his directorial debut with Bad Day for the Cut in 2017. His latest movie is The Boys of County Hell, a vampire film set in Northern Ireland. I really enjoyed this movie! I'm a fan of the vampire genre but prefer edgier and more unique takes on the vampire genre, and this is definitely what Boys of County Hell delivers on. The movie follows a group of road workers who have to survive the night when they accidentally awaken an ancient Irish vampire. It delivers the gore, as well as the laughs, and has some very cool mythology that involves Bram Stoker. I highly recommend it, and Boys of County Hell is now streaming on Shudder. Without further ado, here is Chris Baugh.   Ground your movie in your own reality. When working within a genre, especially horror, it's easy to get stuck in cliches and create something that feels like it's been done before. Horror is becoming a sea of sameness, which is why it's important to put a deeply personal spin on your work. We've never seen a vampire movie set within Northern Ireland, and as a result, Boys From County Hell felt extremely unique and fresh because it had a sensibility and sense of reality that went beyond verisimilitude and felt deeply personal because it was based on Chris' actual experiences.   Cast authentic characters for believable horror. This is definitely an extension of the first point but, casting people who look, act, and talk like real people, gives your movie a level of reality that makes the horror element work even better because, again, it grounds it in reality. The ensemble cast of Boys From County Hell was fantastic - not only great actors but their chemistry and camaraderie felt so real, which really made the movie sing. This all comes down to casting, specifically casting for authenticity. So look for actors who feel real and who can bring their real personalities to their characters.   Always have something, even if you don't. Before Chris did his first movie, he was asked by a film fund in Ireland if he had something they could finance. He did not, but said he did and then ran home and wrote the screenplay for Bad Day for the Cut (which I highly recommend, now streaming on Netflix). He wrote it in about a month, and although he didn't get it funded that year, he got funded the year after. This is a testament to two things; sometimes, you need external pressure to get you to finish that screenplay finally, so if you have the opportunity to commit to delivering someone a screenplay, commit to it. Sometimes the pressure is what you need to bring your work over the finish line finally. The other thing is that if you have an opportunity, at all costs, take it. Even if you're not prepared, say yes and figure it out after the fact. It worked for Chris, and it may just work for you.    Thank you for listening! 1991's The Commitments was a departure for filmmaker Alan Parker.  Traditionally an explorer of the darker reaches of human interaction (Angel Heart, Mississippi Burning), the film was instead a serio-comic look at the making of a band in working class Dublin.  Based on the novel by Roddy Doyle, Parker and his casting team scoured Ireland for actors who could convince as musicians or musicians who could carry the dramatic demands of the script.  He came up with a motley crew of actual singers (Maria Doyle, Glen Hansard) and exciting novices (Andrew Strong, Angeline Ball). Dan, Vicky and special guest/Commitments mega fan/Hot Date listener Theresa Sullivan discuss the crowd pleaser along with a bunch of recently seen.  Hear what your hosts thought of Spiderman: No Way Home, Don't Look Up, 2021's Nightmare Alley, horror films Censor and Boys From County Hell, the new King's Man film, Spielberg's War Horse, and Denzel Washington/Frances McDormand starrer Macbeth.  Hot Date 142: The Commitments with special guest and long time friend Theresa Sullivan will have you singing!  Leave us feedback or a star rating and visit hotdatepod.com

A film with more arguing than the last time we covered an Argento movie; featuring more snot than a classroom of toddlers in winter; and certainly the first film we've all seen shot on handheld cameras, featuring 1 girl and 2 guys alone in the woods, that was rated 15. Along the way we discuss “The Squid Game”, “Boys From County Hell”, “Foundation”, “The Green Knight”, “The Lords of Salem”, “Altered”, “The Last Witch Hunter” and “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2”. In this Film Ireland podcast, Gemma Creagh talks to Chris Baugh, Writer/Director of Boys From County Hell. Welcome to Six Mile Hill, a sleepy Irish backwater whose only claim to fame is the somewhat dubious local legend that Bram Stoker once spent a night in the local pub. It's home to Eugene Moffat, a young man who fills most of his days drinking pints with his friends and pranking tourists who come to visit the gravesite of Abhartach, a legendary Irish vampire some believe to have inspired ‘Dracula.' When a personal tragedy forces Eugene to go and work for his gruff, no-nonsense father he finds himself on the site of a controversial new road development that threatens to destroy the town's livelihood. But strange events unfold when Eugene and the crew tear down a famous cairn believed to be the final resting place of Abhartach and they soon come under attack from a sinister force that has infected one of their workmates. As the night closes in The Boys must fight for survival while discovering the true horror of a myth that hits much closer to home than any of them realise… The film is a Six Mile Hill / Blinder Films Production, and a Northern Irish / Irish co-production. Endeavor Content is the studio, FIS Eireann/ Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen, in association with Automatik, Egg Studios and Inevitable Pictures. Boys From County Hell is released in cinemas from 6th August 2021. https://filmireland.net/

This week, your friends Count Vardulon and DM check out a couple of vampire movies. Thirst (2019) is weird and fun, and not to be confused with the dozens of other movies called Thirst. Boys From County Hell is also weird and fun at times, but flawed. Still probably worth seeing if only for the cool way the vampire feeds. Tune in for a truly appalling showing by DM in horror trivia, and stay for a list that has the same movie on it twice.

We have a great show this week as we head to Ireland for the vampire thriller BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL! In our FIRST CHOP, Tim checks out two curses, THE CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE (1944) and CURSE OF THE DEMON (1958). Brian and Tim talk about the recent Shudder short-film anthology DEADHOUSE DARK, and Tim catches up on those great JOE HILL comics! Then we officially introduce our new SCARE BATTLE segment with a titanic showdown between EDGE OF THE AXE (1988) and THE BURNING (1981). Next we'll see if recent Shudder title BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL lives up to the hype. This Irish twist on the vampire myth has been creating a lot of buzz, but is it the next great horror title or does it suck as much as its monster? Pour yourself a pint and find out on this fun-filled episode of CIVIL GORE!

Tonight we’re chatting with Chris Baugh, director of Boys from County Hell, new to Shudder streaming service, described as a rowdy irish vampire horror-comedy. Strange events unfold in Six Mile Hill – a sleepy Irish town that claims to have been traveled by the famed author Bram Stoker – when construction on a new road disrupts the alleged grave of Abhartach, a legendary Irish vampire said to have inspired Dracula. Deadly and sinister forces terrorize the work crew led by Francie Moffat and his son Eugene, a free-spirited young man who prefers pints to pickaxes, and they're forced to fight to survive the night while exposing the true horror that resides in the town’s local myth. Starring Jack Rowan (Peaky Blinders), Nigel O’Neill (The Bookshop), Louisa Harland (Derry Girls), Fra Fee (Animals, the upcoming Hawkeye series) and John Lynch (The Terror, The Banishing) and Michael Hough (the upcoming Chapelwaite series), and written and directed by Chris Baugh (Bad Day for the Cut).BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL is produced by Brendan Mullin of Six Mile Hill Productions and Yvonne Donohoe for Blinder Films, and executive produced by Katie Holly for Blinder Films, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Rian Cahill for Automatik, and Lesley McKimm for Screen Ireland. Welcome to Episode 155 This week we turn on our mics, press "record", and give you a show that we're calling "Something Out Of Nothing". However, that's not to say we bring nothing to the table this week. We start the show out saying goodbye to not one, but THREE entertainment icons. The world seems emptier as we lost writer and producer Jim Steinman, Shock g of Digital Underground, and Black Rob all in one week. Terrible. This sends us down a music rabbit hole that has us talking about Meatloaf, Air Supply, Dire Straits, The Eagles, Mike and the Mechanics, and more. FTF You don't need to be old to listen to this part. ;) After some time we get into short discussions about the" For All Mankind" S2 and "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier" finales. Dan has started a "Lost" rewatch and gives his thoughts on how it's been so far. Finally, Steve reviews "Boys From County Hell" now on Shudder. And of course, there's much more. We hope you enjoy this week's episode. pardon the fact that it dropped a little later than usual, but it's been a very busy couple of weeks for us. Until next time, friends.  Peace
