Drinking wine should be a relaxing event and lifestyle enhancer, at least this is how Swirl co-founder Federico Fanelli views it. Originally from Italy, Federico came to Japan on a mission to introduce the wine lifestyle to Japanese. After a few years selling wine B2B, he together with his co-founder started Swirl, an online wine subscription service. Swirl is a very user friendly website incorporating gamification, fun navigation, and a super easy searchable wine cellar with over 140 wines from 5 major wine countries. Today I speak with Federico about the inspiration behind Swirl, scalability in a market not known for wine drinking, why the wine buying experience is usually disappointing, how Swirl creates an enhanced customer experience, and why they chose the company name Swirl, despite this potentially being the hardest English word ever for Japanese to pronounce. Other interesting topics of discussion:How the business idea for Swirl was born while drinking at a wine bar with his now co-founderHow the Swirl website uses "Gamification" to increase visitor conversion ratesCreating an enhanced customer experience to make a wow wine experienceFree unsolicited business ideas - for SwirlWhy most foreign wine business in Japan usually have a foreign customer base The wine selection process - Tasting over 2,000 wines to select 140 for the Swirl websiteWhy there are no Japanese wines on the Swirl websiteKarate and a cultural anthropology book became the catalyst for interest in JapanFavorite untranslatable Japanese word - the Mottainai conceptImporting wine into Japan is simple, but creating a wine business is a lot more difficultMost important lesson learned working in JapanSwirl Wine: https://swirlwine.co.jp/ More Now and Zen Japan episodes: http://nowandzen.jpGreat Sleep Starts Here = gugu Sleep Company: https://gugu.jpJapan Adventures via Camper Van = Dream Drive: https://www.dreamdrive.lifeUse the code word "ZEN" to receive discounts

Streaming services across TV, movies, and video games are all the rage nowadays. You can't help but be enamored considering the cheap cost of admission and the abundance of content that goes with them. With that said, one has to wonder if it has a cost to them we're not seeing. Companies behind these services have to justify the needs to have them with this abundance of content and that could come at a price of quality as well as people not having enough time to watch and/or play all of them. Today, we explore this more in-depth and see if being in these services are the right thing to be in...

Episode 249 In Today's episode of Clicks and Bricks Podcast, Ken interviews Bryan Gerber. Bryan and Ken discuss the cannabinoid industry. This interview is jam-packed, so we broke it down into 2 episodes. Stay tuned tomorrow for Part 2 About Bryan Gerber: Known in the industry as the “King of Cones,” 31-year-old disrupter and entrepreneur Bryan Gerber is responsible for producing over 85 million pre-rolled cones per month in the cannabis industry. After graduating from George Washington University School of Business, as a cannabis user seeking a solution to a routine problem for the average smoker, Gerber ultimately ended up revolutionizing the entire industry. Through his entrepreneurship, he is on track to produce 1 billion cones per year, provided by his company Hara, which he helped create and make the largest distributor of pre-rolled cones globally. Gerber later went on to develop the innovative business Hemper (www.hemper.com) in 2015 after raising over seven figures in funding. Most widely known for their one-of-a-kind monthly boxes featuring signature-themed glass pieces, Hemper is now the largest subscription business in all of the cannabis industry, with more than 1 million boxes sold in sales to date. Its offerings also include premium a la cart shopping for core smoking essentials, as the company is solely dedicated to supporting a cannabis lifestyle delivered straight to consumer doors. Hemper has amassed a cult-like following ranging from traditional cannabis users to celebrities, musicians, and athletes. Dedicated to proving himself through his hard work and ingenuity, Gerber has paved the path to sustain his business's growth and longevity while constantly discovering innovative ways to reach new consumers, all-sustaining his loyal and happy customer base. We've been telling you for weeks about steadily declining gas prices here in Southern California and across the country ... but apparently those high gas prices are still having a major economic impact because inflation for the month of June continued at a record setting pace. We'll go In Depth on what has been the weirdest American economy in recent memory. Over 4-thousand Beagles, who just survived horrible conditions at a research facility in Virginia, are looking for loving forever homes .. we'll get you the details. And Starbucks is closing stores here in Los Angeles and other West Coast cities because rampant homelessness has become too much for their staffers to handle. California will become the first state in the country to formally move back the start time for high schools and middle schools ... we'll look at how a little extra sleep could go a long way for teenagers, and their parents. BMW is going to start charging its customers in several countries a subscription fee if owners want to use their cars' seat warmers. That's right--they're going to charge you to use the seat warmers ... in your own car. And at the end of today's show, MIT researchers predicted 50 years ago that there would be a full-scale, global societal collapse here on Earth by 2040. We're going to talk with a modern day researcher who checked their data and concluded ... yup, it's all looking pretty grim for us.
