I would like to apologize in advance for my utter failure to mount a proper tribute to The Jam's Rick Buckler on very short notice. Upon hearing news of Rick's passing, I'd planned on playing the widely discussed “fan club” aka boot of ‘In The City' solely featuring Buckler's isolated drum tracks (‘Mo Rick, Mo Problems') but either it's gone missing or this place is an absolute tip (most likely the latter). I'd mentioned this on air and someone kindly offered to bring round their copy of the isolated drum tracks from ‘Setting Sons', which, y'know, in a pinch would have to do. As it turns out, however, this record was actually Bruce Foxton's isolated bass tracks from ‘Setting Sons' which would not be appropriate for this somber occasion.

An enduring paradox of urban public health is that many communities around hospitals are economically distressed and, counterintuitively, medically underserved. In The City and the Hospital two sociologists, Jonathan R. Wynn and Berkeley Franz, and a political scientist, Daniel Skinner, track the multiple causes of this problem and offer policy solutions. Focusing on three urban hospitals—Connecticut's Hartford Hospital, the flagship of the Hartford Healthcare system; the Cleveland Clinic, which coordinates with other providers for routine care while its main campus provides specialty care; and the University of Colorado Hospital, a rare example of an urban institution that relocated to a new community—the authors analyze the complicated relationship between a hospital and its neighborhoods. On the one hand, hospitals anchor the communities that surround them, often staying in a neighborhood for decades. Hospitals also craft strategies to engage with the surrounding community, many of those focused on buying locally and hiring staff from their surrounding area. On the other hand, hospitals will often only provide care to the neighboring community through emergency departments, reserving advanced medical care and long-term treatment for those who can pay a premium for it. In addition, the authors show, hospitals frequently buy neighborhood real estate and advocate for development programs that drive gentrification and displacement. To understand how urban healthcare institutions work with their communities, the authors address power, history, race, and urbanity as much as the workings of the medical industry. These varied initiatives and effects mean that understanding urban hospitals requires seeing them in a new light—not only as medical centers but as complicated urban forces. Michael O. Johnston, Ph.D. is a Assistant Professor of Sociology at William Penn University. He is the author of The Social Construction of a Cultural Spectacle: Floatzilla (Lexington Books, 2023) and Community Media Representations of Place and Identity at Tug Fest: Reconstructing the Mississippi River (Lexington Books, 2022). On this episode of The Paul Weller Fan Podcast, I am joined by the award-winning stand-up comedian, broadcaster and podcaster, Ian Stone. A huge fan of The Jam and Paul Weller since discovering the band in 1977 via John Peel's late night show on Radio One, Ian published his first book in 2020 – To Be Someone – a memoir about one teenager's obsession with The Jam…Paul Weller commented “I really liked this book. I'd forgotten how shit it was in the seventies”…We dive into his memory band from hearing that first single to attending live concerts and soundchecks and that specia the connection with the music, the lyrics and the look of the band...In May 1977, The Jam made their mark on the music scene with the release of their debut single, In The City. However, in the midst of this musical revolution, Britain was grappling with widespread discontent, and young Ian Stone's household was no exception. A fourteen-year-old navigating the challenges of school, witnessing Arsenal's dismal football performances, and enduring his parents' crumbling marriage, Ian's life seemed far from idyllic. Beyond his personal struggles, the nation was grappling with its own demons - racial tensions, violence, inner-city riots, police scandals, rising unemployment, and the looming threat of terrorism. But in 1978, one fateful evening would change Ian's life forever. The Jam took the stage at London's Music Machine, igniting an electrifying atmosphere with their iconic sound. As they launched into ninety minutes of unforgettable pop tunes, Ian's world was transformed. The sheer exhilaration of that moment eclipsed anything he had ever experienced. To Be Someone is a vivid account of the five years Ian spent captivated by his obsession with The Jam. He took on weekend jobs to fund his gig attendance, embarked on daring escapades like sneaking onto the roof of the Hammersmith Odeon, and narrowly escaped eviction from a Brighton hotel, only to be saved by none other than Paul Weller himself, who invited Ian and his friends back into the bar.Above all, the book serves as a heartfelt tribute to the band that guided Ian, and countless others, through the tumultuous landscape of Britain in the late 1970s and early 1980s. When Paul Weller eventually announced The Jam's breakup, Ian was left devastated. Yet, for him and the legions who embarked on that transformative five-year journey, their enduring love for the band remains unwavering. To Be Someone captures not only the spirit of a generation but also the indelible impact of The Jam's music on the lives of its ardent fans during a pivotal era in British history. How do you answer the question: where are you from? Usually, we will give a city or town and a state. "Trabuco Canyon, California," is how I would answer that question and then I would feel compelled to mention the nearest larger city and say: "On the east side of Mission Viejo." You do that to or, in some cases, if you live in a large metropolitan city you just say "New York." What is your connection to your city? These are just places to most people but to God, your particular place matters. Your particular city matters big or small. Why? Because it's your city! The Bible declares that God has placed where we are, in the city that we find ourselves, next to the people we encounter in that city for a supernatural purpose! In "THE CITY" pastor and men's expert Kenny Luck challenges you to think about and act on God's Word about your city, your role in it, and how it needs a movement of Spirit empowered men taking risks to change it.

The Corporation Of The City Of London•     City of London, municipal corporation and borough, London, England. Sometimes called “the Square Mile,” it is one of the "33" boroughs that make up the large metropolis of Greater London.   The borough lies on the north bank of the River Thames between the Temple Bar memorial pillar (commemorating the old Temple Bar gate) and the base of Tower Hill. The City Corporation is Britain's oldest local government; it has the status of a county, with powers that exceed those of London's "32" other boroughs, notably the control of its own police force. “The City,” as it is known, is only a component, relatively small in area, of the larger urban area known as London. Its area corresponds closely to that of the ancient city from which modern London has grown. The City belongs geographically to the historic county of Middlesex, but its special status and privileges gave it autonomy from that county for most of its history.   Britannica     The Latin motto of the City is Domine dirige nos, which translates as "Master, direct (guide) us". It appears to have been adopted in the 17th century, as the earliest record of it is in 1633. A banner of the arms (the design on the shield) is flown as a flag of the City.     14 dragon statues guarding the city of London. Many other depictions of Dragons adorn various buildings. Some inside, & some on the outer structure. Two at the main gates of the city. The crest of the city has the two dragons with the white shield and a Red Cross, & sword. The cross, & sword resemble upside down crosses. The official explanation says the crest is an homage to St. George was depicted in a fictional story saving a princess from a dragon. The story was loosely based on   St. George being a Templar Knight, & is often depicted in armor riding a stallion.   The Knight's Templar flags were also white with red crosses.   https://londonist.com/london/secret/dragon     Must Watch!   Occult Symbolism On Buildings In The Corporation Of The City Of London   https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2yv8x4     Same Video On YT   https://youtu.be/M9eHVWMF3XU     Another Great Video Showing More Symbolism In The City   https://youtu.be/8lMpTrgqt0M     More Symbolism   https://andrewgough.co.uk/london/       Gog, & Magog Symbolism In London   https://londonist.com/2016/01/gog-and-magog-who-are-they-and-what-do-they-have-to-do-with-london     We learned earlier that the Corporation City Of London is a, or the, most important city in the world for finance. Freemasonry is predominant in the square mile. The honorable Lord Mayor of the city is closely aligned with Freemasonry, & many Lord Mayors have been Masons. As many as 5000 Freemasons March in the yearly parade celebrating the election of the new Lord Mayor. The alleged oldest Masonic Lodge is located in the city. Author Stephen Knight wrote two detailed books about the influence of Freemasonry in London. He focused especially on the various police forces, & how Masonry had created a true good ole boy network which allowed numerous criminal acts to go unpunished. I have also stated that the British Monarch is not the Crown. The Crown is the Inner City of London, which is an independent State in London belonging to the Vatican system. It is a banking cartel which has a massive system around and beneath, which hides its true power.
The City is in fact the Knights Templar Church, also known as the Crown Temple or Crown Templar, and is located between Fleet Street and Victoria Embankment. The Temple grounds are also home to the Crown Offices at Crown Office Row. The Crown Temple controls the Global'Legal'system, including those in the United States, Canada,Australia, and much more; this is because all Bar Associations are franchises of the
International Bar Association at the Inns of Court at Crown Temple based at Chancery Lane in London.
All Bar Associations are franchises of the Crown and all Bar Attorneys/ Barristers throughout the world pledge a solemn oath to the Temple, even though many may not be aware that this is what they are doing. Bar Association 'licensed' Solicitors / Barristers must keep to their Oath, Pledge and terms of allegiance to the Crown Temple if they are to be "called to the Bar" and work in the legal profession. The ruling Monarch is also subordinate to the Crown Temple, this as been so since the reign of King John in the 13th century when Royal Sovereignty was transferred to the Crown Temple and, through this, to the Roman Church.
King John 1167-1216 is the key to this deception."     "The present Queen of England is not the "Crown," as we have all been led to believe. Rather, it is the Bankers and Attornies (Attorneys) who are the actual Crown or Crown Temple. The Monarch aristocrats of England have not been ruling sovereigns since the reign of King John, circa 1215. All royal sovereignty of the old British Crown since that time has passed to the Crown Temple in Chancery.
The U.S.A. is not the free and sovereign nation that our federal government tells us it is. If this were true, we would not be dictated to by the Crown Temple through its bankers and attornies. The U.S.A. is controlled and manipulated by this private foreign power and our unlawful Federal U.S. Government is their pawnbroker.
The bankers and Bar Attorneys in the U.S.A. are a franchise in oath and allegiance to the Crownat Chancery - the Crown Temple Church and its Chancel located at Chancery Lane - a manipulative body of elite bankers and attorners from the independent City of London who violate the law in America by imposingfraudulent "legal"
- but totally unlawful - contracts on the American people. The banks Rule the Temple Church and the Attorners carry out their Orders by controlling their victim's judiciary."   "The legal system (judiciary) of the U.S.A. is controlled by the CrownTemple from the independent and sovereign City of London. The private Federal Reserve System, which issues fiat U.S. Federal Reserve Notes, is financially owned and controlled by the Crown from Switzerland, the home and legal origin for the charters of the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization, and most importantly, the Bank of International Settlements.
Even Hitler respected his Crown bankers by not bombing Switzerland. The Bank of International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland [Vatican bank] controls all the central banks of the G7 nations.
He who controls the gold rules the world."   "The people who comprise the citizenry of a state are recognised only within natural and common law as is already established by God's Law. Only a State Citizen can be a party to an action within a State Court.
A common state citizen cannot be recognised in that court because he doesn't legally exist in Crown Chancery Courts. In order to be recognised in their State Courts, the common man must be converted to that of a corporate or legal entity (a legal fiction).
Now you know why they create such an entity using all capital letters within Birth Certificates issued by the State. They convert the common lawful man of God into a fictional legal entity subject to Administration by State Rules, Orders and Codes (there is no "law" within any Rule or Code). Of course, Rules, Codes, etc. do not apply to the lawful common man of the Lord of lords, so the man with inherent Godly law and rights must be converted into a legal "Person" of fictional "status" (another legal term) in order for their legal - but completely unlawful - State Judiciary (Chancery Courts) to have authority over him."   The CrownTemple

This week's episode of In The City isn't for the lighthearted. Three weeks into her term, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss's financial plans have sowed market chaos, pummeled the pound and put her political future in doubt. So how bad is it? Adam Posen, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, tells David Merritt and Francine Lacqua that "it's hard to imagine worse panic than what we've seen ... it's just really sad to see the UK government behaving in this irresponsible way." Plus: The pound is on parity watch. We hear from a trader who made billions in 2008 and is now buying up sterling, and a hedge fund manager who is shorting the pound and betting against UK stocks. As she argues, artists' engagements with urban space and form reveal ways of grasping multiple and layered senses and concepts of time, whether aligned with colonialism, postcolonial modernity, communism, or postsocialism. Featuring a variety of creative production, including staged and documentary photography, the moving image, and public performance and installation, The City in Time illustrates how artists from Vietnam and Cambodia have envisioned their rapidly changing worlds. We have Two True Tales From Weirdsvilles this month. The first is a look at one of my favorite things, The Law Of Unintended Consequences. You know, let's say you pass a big law, or, say overturn a right people have had for fifty years… You think you know how it's going to pan out. All neat and tidy. But you know what? Even under the best of circumstances, there's the law of unintended consequences. Things are not going to turn out exactly the way you want. As the old saying goes, all the best laid plans of mice and men. Will take a look at classic example of The Law Of Unintended Consequences, one that I have some personal knowledge of. And a bonus True Tales, more in keeping with the tone of the show, about the Kung Fu craze of the mid 70's. Bruce Lee, Kung Fu, Billy Jack, the whole shebang.

When they first met at a suburban Junior High just outside of Nashville some thirty years ago, Mike Shepherd was the rule-following new kid with a stash of X-Men comics under his chair and Jereme Frey was the black and white checkered Skidz-overalls wearing local with a stash of X-Men comics under his chair. They sat next to each other in band, and for the most part, followed the rules. Then they heard that damn Nirvana record, scooched their trombone and tenor sax over just a little to make room for a bass guitar and a drum kit, and Schtucket was born. A few short months later, Mike (Bass, Vocals), Jereme (Drums, Vocals), and their other bestie, Ryan Shogren (Guitar, Vocals), recorded a demo on a boombox / karaoke dual cassette tape machine to take down to Lucy's to see if maybe, just maybe, they could get a show. Spoiler alert: they did. On the regular. Thirty years later, "Nashville's happy-go-lucky musical tricksters” are members of Tower Defense, and they're still cranking out their unique version of loud, high-powered punk, making records, and playing live shows to packed houses. Jereme Frey and Mike Shepherd have played rock music together for nearly 30 years, beginning with "Nashville's happy-go-lucky trio of musical tricksters," Schtucket. Schtucket was together from 1993-1998, and their run included ten appearances at Lucy's Record Shop between 1994 and 1997. Following Schtucket's dissolution, they went on to play together in The Shakedown Cruise, Shiboleth, Gentleman Divers, Partytown Hospital, and early-aughts loud-rock legends Apollo Up! For the last ten years, they've collaborated in Tower Defense, alongside Mike's wife Sarah Shepherd on bass and Currey May on guitar. In The City, the latest LP from Tower Defense, was released in 2020 on Nashville's YK Records.  Episode MusicSchtucket - Skirts (1994)Tower Defense - In the City (2020)Lambchop - “So I Hear You're Moving” Additional Mentions/LinksSchtucket - Discography 1994-1998 Apollo Up!
