"Get comfortable with being uncomfortable" This is how one of my latest podcast guests describes the secret moving on after being laid off. The idea for this latest episode came to me after noticing many people openly sharing their "open to work" status on LinkedIn, alongside updates about their efforts to remain positive. This sparked my curiosity about the less discussed aspects of the lay off experience, the professional and personal challenges that aren't typically aired, especially the emotions that accompany the inevitable changes that happen after being laid off. For this episode I was joined by not one but two experienced leaders who between them have worked at some of the most prominent tech companies in the industry including LinkedIn, Microsoft, Oracle, Citrix, Okta and HubSpot. Join me, Sacha Dekker and Jamie McDonnell as we talk: Coping with the change that unexpected job loss presents Finding solace and inspiration in hobbies Aligning job opportunities with personal values The importance of a strong support network The evolving role of AI in search, recruitment, hiring, learning and life

Jamie McDonnell defended his WBA bantamweight title for the second time against the flashy and athletic Tomoki Kameda. McDonnell moved Kameda around the ring while pressing forward on the smaller challenger the entire fight behind a solid lead jab. Kameda was flashy in spurts but fought off of his back foot as he pedaled away struggling for accuracy. McDonnell dropped Kameda in the final frame to seal the deal, defeating Kameda by way of unanimous decision.Anthony Dirrell beat an outmatched and out of shape Marco Antonio Rubio over ten rounds in the boring main event of this Sunday afternoon fight card on the PBC. The Premier Boxing Champions announcing crew was disgraceful during this fight card from Corpus Cristi. Biased, agenda driven announcing has been a major issue with every PBC card to date, but the ridiculous, farfetched, attempted manipulation of the at-home boxing audience was disrespectful at best. Host Kenny Keith gives a passionate assessment about the state of boxing announcing. The PBC has taken a respected craft of keen observation and reporting and turned into an agenda driven public relations machine. The Take of the Tape has results from Golden Boy Promotions LA Fight Club show at the Belasco Theater, and briefly discusses the PBC's ten millionth television outlet for their profit loss-leader mechanism as they introduce the PBC on Fox Sports 1. The moment almost none of us have been waiting for is here. Floyd Mayweather fights Andre Berto this weekend on Pay-Per-View, for way too much money, under the guise that this will be his final bout. As you can see, we're really excited about the prospect of paying $75 to watch Floyd fight a guy who lost to Jesus Soto Karass and Victor Ortiz. At least the undercard (Badou Jack vs George Groves, Roman Martinez vs Orlando Salido II, Ishe Smith vs Vanes Martirosyan) isn't laughable. Earlier Saturday on NBC, Peter Quillin fights a guy named Michael Zerafa (just go look on the internet yourself, trust us), and Cornelius Bundrage fights for the first time in about a year against Jermall Charlo. Austin Trout fights tonight (Tues) on FoxSports 1, but on Friday light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson continues to face sub-par opposition when he defends against Tommy Karpency on Spike, from Premier Boxing Champions. Talented welterweight Errol Spence Jr. fights in the co-feature. On CBS last Sunday from PBC, Anthony Dirrell won a ho hum decision over Marco Antonio Rubio, and in the co-feature Jamie McDonnell again defeated Tomoki Kameda by controversial decision. It's been a mediocre year, as you all know. But there's news about Scott Quigg and Nonito Donaire being nearly finalized, some pointing and laughing to do about upcoming cards... And joining James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor once again this week is Matthew Swain of The Queensberry Rules. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: Lucas Noonan/PBC)

LEO SANTA CRUZ has put him right into the featherweight mix with a stirring victory over Abner Mares. The Boxing News team considers what lies ahead for him and the more perplexing path ahead of Shane Mosley after his recent victory over Ricardo Mayorga. We preview the weekend's action, as Jamie McDonnell aims for a rematch win over Tomoki Kameda in Texas and Josh Warrington takes on what could prove a tough test against Joel Brunker in Leeds. We digest the latest news including whether Diego Chaves is a good enough challenger for Kell Brook and when the welterweight division is going to produce the big fights just waiting to be made. All this and much more on the latest edition of the Opening Bell podcast. No politics, just boxing, get involved.
Once more Premier Boxing Champions offered up a couple of good fights, this time on ESPN. Undefeated featherweight Leo Santa Cruz proved he was on Abner Mares' level and then some in winning a majority decision. And in the co-feature at Staples Center, super bantamweights Julio Ceja and Hugo Ruiz traded knockdowns in an entertaining battle before the Ceja scored a stoppage in the 5th. Credit where it's due. That doesn't mean that PBC's schedule is much to get excited about; they for some reason chose Marco Antonio Rubio to step in (and up in weight) against super middleweight Anthony Dirrell on Sunday, though the rematch between bantamweights Jamie McDonnell and Tomoki Kameda on the same card is intriguing. They should have switched it up and had that rematch headlining on CBS. There's also the matter of another rematch to discuss: Shane Mosley vs Ricardo Mayorga II. Whatever it is that needs to be said about that Pay-Per-View, we'll say it. Maybe there will be updates on Andre Berto's athleticism, show mascot Victor Ortiz's latest run-in with the law, Adrien Broner's most recent gift, and more. James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor will sherpa you through this. Like Top Men Boxing Radio on Facebook, and rate us on iTunes! Thanks for tuning in! ON this week's podcast, Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao is well and truly over but there's plenty more action to digest. The Boxing News team look at the prospects on display in Birmingham, the heroics of Jamie McDonnell and Ricky Burns in Texas, Frank Buglioni's battle with Lee Markham and the devastating form of Saul Alvarez. We look ahead to Gennady Golovkin versus Willie Monroe Jnr in California and plot out the next path for the ferocious Kazakh. Plus get to know new Boxing News editor, Matt Christie, like you never have before. No politics, just boxing, get involved.
Did we need that, or did we NEED that? Following a monumental letdown of a megafight in Mayweather-Pacquiao, boxing fans needed a nice weekend of boxing to recharge, and we got it. There were negatives to focus on -- like another fantastically inept failure by Texas referee Laurence Cole -- but it was mostly fun. This week on the newly-reworked Top Men Boxing Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and boxing writer/historian Patrick Connor welcome back to the show Kelsey McCarson of Bleacher Report, The Sweet Science and The Boxing Channel. The topics? All things boxing. But more specifically, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's destruction of James Kirkland, a recap of the #PBConCBS card that featured Omar Figueroa vs Ricky Burns and Jamie McDonnell vs Tomoki Kameda, and a preview of the upcoming HBO card featuring Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr and Roman Gonzalez vs Edgar Sosa. That's a lot of good stuff. Don't miss it. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: Will Hart)
