The focus of last weekend’s trade between the Jets and Seahawks was on Jamal Adams and multiple first round picks moving between the teams. The Jets did make a lower profile addition in the deal, acquiring safety Bradley McDougald. McDougald will likely slide into Adams’ starting role. While he will undoubtedly be a downgrade from Adams, he could be a quality starter for the Jets in 2020. On today’s podcast I discuss the addition of McDougald and what it might mean for the Jets’ team building. Adding him as a throw in shows good attention to detail by the Jets. It also might be another display of how the new front office values positions differently than past Jets leadership. Additionally on the show we discuss whether the Jets should look at add edge rushers Jadeveon Clowney and/or Yannick Ngakoue who are both looking for new teams. Learn more about your ad choices. Seahawks fans, welcome back to another edition of the Seahawks Playbook Podcast! We finally made it to Training Camp week! It has been such a long off-season, so thank you so much for sticking with us each week to bring you the best Seattle Seahawks content that we can. This weekend also brought us the biggest blockbuster trade in the NFL this season when the Seahawks gave up two 1st round picks, a 3rd and Bradley McDougald for the New York Jets safety Jamal Adams! Wow!! Seattle also receives back a 2022 4th round pick in the mega deal. This deal had been speculated on for a while now since Adams came out and included Seattle on a list of teams he would like to be traded to....but the actual timing of the trade and the trade compensation blew everyone out of the water. Setting aside the compensation to New york, Seattle is recieving a true difference maker on the defensive side of the ball, and will become a foundational piece in Pete Carroll's defense for years to come. Adams has two years remaining on his rookie deal including his 5th year option, then Seattle will have to find a way to make him the richest paid safety in the NFL to keep him. As you can see from the title of the show, the primary reason we are here today is to get us ready for training camp. It's been a long time coming, and with the safety protocols in place, it is going to take a while before we actually see players on the field running through drills, but at least players are beginning to arrive into team facilities. They will go through a series of Covid-19 tests and then finally be allowed to gather together for the first time during the 2020 season. Players will spend the next three weeks easing into actual football on the field until about three weeks from now, they will be able to have contact in practices. Until then, it's going to be a steady diet of meetings, walk-throughs and drills. Keith and Bill will continue to be here each and every week to bring you the latest news and analysis throughout training camp as we get you ready for the regular season. Go Hawks!

NFL training camps are set to open this week and it will be interesting to see how things unfold.   The baseball world was rocked on Monday as word came down that 13 members of the Miami Marlins baseball team tested positive for Covid 19. The league then postponed their next two upcoming games as well as their last weekends opponents the Philadelphia Phillies game against the New York Yankees. This coming on the heels of the first weekends action in baseball's return to play has shook up the entire sports world.   We touched on the new name just announced the Seattle Kraken for the latest NHL hockey expansion franchise. Jason likes it and thought it was a great move by the team.   Enjoy this latest great episode breaking down most of the sports here in North America. Cheers,   Take Care   Love yah,   Bye for now

Steelers 26 Seahawks 28Ben Roethlisberger left this game with one drive to go in the first half with what looked like a right elbow industry, yielding his position to Mason Rudolph. This was just more bad news in a game that signalled to Steelers Nation that it’s going to be a long year. The injury bug also hit James Conner, who, except for one play of 14 yards experienced more futility, gaining of 33 yards on 11 carries.Emerging this game was Mason Rudolph who was 12/19 for 112 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs (the aforementioned INT caused by Moncrief and the second a pass into the end zone on a two-point conversion attempt).Donte Moncrief did less than redeem the three passes he dropped last week, by letting a pass slip through his hands into the the waiting hands of Seattle’s Bradley McDougald.Although the Steelers got Vance McDonald involved in the game a lot earlier than last week, JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington might as well have been shelling peanuts on the sideline until even getting a look at the ball just a few minutes before the first half ended. The defense gave us hope as Stephon Tuitt registered 2.5 sacks and was tearing at the gates all day. Stephen Nelson was generally locking down DK Metcalf, proving himself as capable a cornerback as we have seen in a while. We got a HUGE boost when TJ Watt also tallied a sack while also spending a lot of time terrorizing the offensive backfield. In particular, Watt forced a fumble from Chris Carson that Mark Barron picked up and delivered to the endzone, only to have the TD called back due to a block in the back expertly delivered by Sean Davis.Although Devin Bush did not have a career day, he too picked up a fumble dislodged by Mike Hilton and managed to return it to the Seattle 3 yard line, from which Rudolph delivered a strike to McDonald for a TD.We’re glad to see Chris Boswell appearing to be back in 2017 form, hitting field goals of 41 and 33 yards as well as two XPs. Facing one of the top offenses in the NFL this week, the Seahawks have a number of players on the injury report. On defense is where the names jump out the most. Particularly seeing both Bradley McDougald and Tedric Thompson along with Shaquill Griffin on the injury report. Griffin was a full participant in practice, but Thompson has already been ruled out this week and McDougald is questionable. How will injuries impact Sunday night's game? The Chiefs are incredible on offense, but what about the defense? What's the magic number the Seahawks will have to put up on the board to be able to outscore the trio of Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce? It's a difficult number to come up with when they've score upwards of 40-50 points in two of the three losses. A few of the Seahawks players are looking to hit some big milestones in this game.  Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Chris Carson and Frank Clark all have some important milestones that could be within range in this game. The guys run down the short list of Pro Bowl players with Bobby Wagner and Michael Dickson earning a spot. But there are seven more Seahawks players on the list who are listed as alternates. Yet, there are still two spots that stand out as snubs. In the Do Better segment, Adam takes a run at the elf on the shelf and Brandan has words for throwback jersey distributor Mitchell and Ness. The Seahawks have signed what many hope to be their most impactful free agent signing yet by bringing in D.J. Fluker. Fluker is another top draft pick from the 2013 season, and Kenneth Arthur, managing editor of Field Gulls, joins us to talk about the move along with some of his observations from the offseason to this point. One of the things Kenneth likes best about the Fluker signing - it's better than paying top dollar for the other guards who hit the market. But the best possible outcome might be finding a guard via the draft who can ultimately take over at that position. Despite all of the change this offseason, Kenneth says the direction of the team seems to be an approach toward sticking to the philosophy that got the team to a Super Bowl. Cutting Richard Sherman even allows them to keep last year's roster together as much as possible by allowing them to keep Dion Jordan, Justin Coleman, Bradley McDougald and potentially Byron Maxwell. The Seahawks were at their best when they had rookies playing at a high level with contracts that were far below the value they offered. They were able to find players in that "middle class" who were able to compete and produce in ways that led them to extensions with the team. In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better to move on from those players. We discuss the projections of the Seahawks possibly only winning six games, and Kenneth points out how a top quarterback like Phillip Rivers has been able to produce winning seasons without a lot of help around him. Even if a couple big names leave, Russell Wilson should be able to lead the Seahawks to a winning record. Clinton Bonner joins the show to talk about some of the moves from the offseason including Luke Willson's departure. He talks about what he's going to miss most from the Wilson to Willson connection. He also has a new public access show he's starting called TNT Dynamite Thursdays that launches on Thursday. The show closes with calls to do better for Cowboys fans who feel entitled to Earl Thomas and to  Mike Freeman for a nonsensical take on how things will go for Russell Wilson this coming year. Better at life honors go to UMBC and their Twitter account manager and to a caretaker of an island off the coast of Italy.
