For more than 30 years Carol Adams has fed, housed, educated and cared for orphans and vulnerable children in Fort Portal in Western Uganda. Many of the children were weakened by the HIV virus but were supported for two decades by anti-viral drugs provided by USAID and its PEPFAR program. But those programs have been frozen by President Trump, putting the lives of millions in East Africa and around the world in grave danger. I recently spoke with Carol about her YesUganda.org program and the impact of the USAID freeze.Support the showEast Africa NGO is sponsored by TeaminFaith.orgMusic by Dale Enstrom

Phoenix Aurelius is a modern day alchemist & founder of the Phoenix Aurelius Research Center [specializing in spagyric medicine] tucked away in the mountains of Webster County, West Virginia. On this esoteric excursion into the mind of an alchemist, we open on the four dimensions of our multi-dimensional reality: the physical, the astral, the causal, and the spiritual. From there we delve into the history and teachings of Paracelsus, the 16th-century alchemist & physician, exploring topics such as: fire-water-air-earth; sulfur-mercury-salt as the soul-spirit-body of any material; life-death-rebirth and reaching immortality in the laboratory; the difference between herbalism & spagyria; and the historical alchemists' fixation on generating gold. Phoenix then describes in vivid detail the recipe for creating the legendary Philosopher's Stone, that if ingested, according to lore, brings everlasting life! Following is a wild story about a FBI phone call & the death of a fellow alchemist. After thoughts & impressions on past-lives, dwarves, and Carl Jung's alchemical psychology, Phoenix shares a potent story about his near-death experiences as a kid with lucid visions of ancestors & the lobby of heaven. Pop open your bubbling lab flask & take a huge swig of this mind-bending sonic elixir! We're incorrigible Genesis fans. We hail every bit of output from 1970 to 1978. We even go further than that. But here, for episode 127, we stop and lovingly gaze at the band's final album of the '70s, the first after the departure of guitarist Steve Hackett, and a work that some mark as the band's departure from prog rock. Not so, say we! Spectral, ghostly, gauzy, playful, lush as all get-out...and total prog. We laud this fascinating transitional effort by one of the greatest bands of all time...prog or otherwise, Note I:The Radical Research Patreon page is now set up and ready for your patronage. Now three years old, the garden is full of native trees, plants and edibles, and visitors are encouraged to take home berries and veggies in season. In addition, the garden has become a great home for insects and a few resident birds. Kids of all ages enjoy the grassy area, bubble rock fountains and winding footpaths. When she was a child, her parents would sneak her sketchpad, and while she slept, they created drawings for her to find when she awoke. She worked as a key animator for many years before she emigrated to the United States with her husband Uldis. His work has been published in the Oklahoma Gazette and the Huffington Post and he was named a Champion of Pride by Advocate Magazine and received the Rising Star Award from the OSU College of Arts and Sciences. We're talking about James' debut novel - Moonlit Massacre - a horror novel about a mass murder following in the vein of the infamous Sirloin Stockade murders in Oklahoma City in the 70s. Over the course of the conversation we also talk about Care Bears, Nightmare on Elm Street, Lil Wayne, jazz, a little OKC politics, and a particular influence that you'll have to hear to believe. As you can imagine, the conversation turns to violence a bit, so be advised as you decide to listen. This episode brings to a close our periodic investigations of the Steven Wilson-curated 'Intrigue' compilation. Covering progressive sounds in UK alternative/post-punk music from 1979-89, 'Intrigue' nails its intention, proving that, while traditional prog rock may have waned in the '80s, that spirit of adventure and invention remained alive through the work of dozens and dozens of UK music-makers in this time period. This episode focuses on Kate Bush, Dif Juz, Cardiacs, Dead Can Dance, SLAB!, Momus, No-man and a host of others. Working Artists! You are not alone! Listen to these entertaining and inspirational podcast conversations with working artists.Making a living from our artwork comes with its unique set of challenges. For art fair artists, this involves venturing out of our solitary studios and hitting the road, searching for our audience. We risk physical and financial security, and if we can't maintain a positive attitude during adversity, that dark spiral can cycle us downward and act as a barrier to connecting with collectors. Recorded live in rural Ireland together, East Forest and Peter Broderick dive into his challenges and triumphs. Born in 1987, Peter was brought up in a musical household in Oregon. In his later teenage years he became entwined in the indie folk scene in Portland, recording for the likes of M. Ward, Laura Gibson and Dolorean. This is a “careful for what you wish for” kind of thing. For years and years, we hoped that we could hear the mighty Steve DiGiorgio's bass work with more clarity on Death's 1991 masterpiece, Human. Once we could, thanks to the 2011 reissue, we relented and realized we preferred the original version after all. We present this mini-episode in good humor and with an anxious heart, because we hope no one, least of all DiGiorgio himself, understands this is not a critique of his playing. The man is a god to us…we just prefer the original sound of the 1991 ‘Human' over the 2011 reissue. This shit's important! Operating outside of the metal infrastructure, but heralding its glory and complexity more so than most “true” metal bands, The Fucking Champs, in their 1994-2007 rampage, cobbled together elements of Trouble, Confessor, Don Caballero, and Kraftwerk and reshaped the geometric possibilities of math metal, all with the insouciance of its indie rock roots.
