Rev. Roy Askins, managing editor for The Lutheran Witness, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Mark 10:32-45. As Jesus continues to lead the way up to Jerusalem, He adds to what He has taught His disciples concerning what awaits Him there. He speaks with great clarity and precision concerning the details of the betrayal, condemnation, mockery, torture, and death He will endure at the hands of both Jews and Gentiles before rising after three days. The disciples once again miss Jesus’ teaching, exemplified by the request of James and John to occupy the places at Jesus’ right and left in His glory. While they have the glory of man in mind, Jesus has the glory of God in mind. This is the glory that belongs to Jesus because He has given His life on the cross between two robbers. That glory is what is given to all who follow Jesus, crucifying their sinful desire for greatness and filling them with a desire to serve each other as Jesus came to serve them by His death. “The Gospel in Action” is a mini-series on Sharper Iron that goes through the Gospel according to St. Mark. The Evangelist hits the ground running with the very first verse of his Gospel account, and he never lets up the pace. As one deed of Jesus comes right after another, always paired with His authoritative Word, St. Mark proclaims the good news that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, revealed conclusively by His death on the cross.

Jesus Gives Eternal, Everlasting Life (John 10:28) When someone is saved, what does Jesus give them? The eternal God gives them eternal life. Eternal life is knowing Him, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (John 17:3). It is also “the age to come” (Luke 18:30). Jesus said, “And I give them eternal life, and they […] The post Jesus’ Glory; Ezekiel 1 Vision; Jesus Gives Eternal Life. Amen! appeared first on Wonder & Reality.

This week's Advent topic is on the peace Our Lord brought into the world at His Birth. The fourth week of Advent is now upon us. As we light the fourth candle, or sometimes called the Angels' Candle, of the Advent wreath in our homes and churches, we reflect on and echo the words of the heavenly host proclaiming the birth of Jesus: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” We must choose to accept His peace. We can do this by striving to become a person with “whom his favor rests.” Peace is a grace readily available to those who are in communion with God through the sacraments and those that make peace in their earthly relationships. As Jesus taught in The Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Into this world came the Prince of Peace. Into this world came Love incarnate. Into this world...came the only Son of God. With only His words He commands storms to be at peace by saying “Quiet! Be still.” May He also speak such words of peace into our weary souls so that we, too, can be at peace and in communion with Him. -------- Are you looking to "deck the halls" this Advent season in preparation of our Savior's birth? Costco has a great “returns” policy. It is very generous. You can return virtually anything, for any reason, and get a refund. This was put to the test earlier this year. On January 4, 2018 a woman in Santa Clarita, CA trudged into the local Costco lugging a large, dead, “real” Christmas tree. She made her way through the returns line until she stood before the customer service representative. “I’d like to return this tree.” When asked why, she responded. “Because it’s dead.” The other customers waiting in line were blown away. One of them, Scott Bentley, took a photo of the lady and her disheveled tree. “I can’t make this stuff up,” he posted on Facebook below the photo. Time magazine carried the story. In the article it says: “. . . most people tend to accept that trees — once cut down for decorative holiday purposes — have a finite life span. . . . But others seem less willing to accept this unfortunate fact of life.” It is a fact of life. Roots and fruits are inseparable. Roots and life and flourishing are all inextricably linked. Today Jesus will make this clear to us in John 15:1-11. The Final Word “Roots and Fruits” John 15:1-11 Our relationship with Jesus The fruitless are cuts off The fruitful are cultivated Our responsibility to Jesus Remain in him Rely on him Our results through Jesus Glory to God Gladness from God
In this message Pastor Jamie continues our series in John by examining how the resurrection of Lazarus reveals Jesus & our hope in Him, yet seals Jesus own death for His people & resurrection which is foreshadowed in this event.

Luke 9:37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him. 38 A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. 39 A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him. 40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.” 41 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”42 Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.
