A trial kicks off Monday in Scott County in a case that could impact control of the Minnesota House of Representatives. The Minnesota Republican Party has a new chair. At a party meeting Saturday, Alex Plechash defeated David Hann, the party's chair for the past three years. And last week, President Joe Biden commuted the federal prison sentences of more than 1,500 people — but not everyone is happy with the decision. One person whose sentence was commuted was Jim Carlson. In 2014, Carlson was convicted of selling illegal synthetic drugs from his Duluth head shop. On Facebook over the weekend, St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsey called Biden's decision “frustrating.” Ramsey wrote that Carlson's actions “contributed to the spread of addiction (and) increased crime.”This is a MPR News morning update, hosted by Phil Picardi. Some of the states' elected officials are raising concerns after President Biden released a list of almost 1,500 people convicted of crimes he is granting clemency to. Jim Carlson made the list. He's a Duluth former business owner who has served more than ten of his seventeen-year-sentence in prison and in a halfway house. Carlson was found guilty in 2013 for dozens of felony charges after selling synthetic drugs from his shop called The Last Place on Earth. Carlson has said in the past he didn't know he was selling synthetic drugs that were illegal. Now with clemency, he'll finish his sentence next week.St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsey wrote on Facebook that the decision is concerning and frustrating. He joined Minnesota Now host Nina Moini to explain his thoughts about this clemency process.

A great question from one of our customers about how to talk to your vet about your choice to feed your pet species-appropriate food. Plus, we bring back our interview with Jim Carlson, DVM, CVA, CVSMT from Lifetime Pet Wellness Center so you have a chance to hear from one of the best vets in our area. Dr. Jim Carlson is a 1993 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He began his veterinary career doing mostly western, or conventional, medicine. As with many veterinarians, Dr. Carlson became dissatisfied with the responses he would get from the allopathic approach. Slowly Dr. Carlson began to integrate other types of treatments, such as nutritional medicine, using products like glandulars and whole body supplements from Standard Process. He began practicing traditional homeopathy, and in 2003 added homotoxicology to his repertoire. In 2004 Dr. Carlson attended the Chi Institute to be trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, and has been certified since 2005. In 2006, Dr. Carlson became certified by The Healing Oasis Wellness Center, and by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy, what we can call veterinary chiropractic in Ohio, since 2007. https://www.facebook.com/LifetimePetWellnessCenter/ (Jim's Facebook page) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx_-nahdbeUtRvP6uLF_2Fw (Jim on YouTube) https://fangs-and-fur.captivate.fm/fangsfur (Join the Wildside for updates and discounts!) https://fangs-and-fur.captivate.fm/steves (Learn more about Steve's Real Foods.) https://fangs-and-fur.captivate.fm/nwn (Learn more about Northwest Naturals.) https://fangs-and-fur.captivate.fm/lpwc (Learn more about Lifetime Pet Wellness Center.)
