Patrick is most well known for his popular docu series titled Epicly Later'd which showcases stories on professional skateboarders and skateboarding culture. Prior to starting his documentary series Patrick worked as a photographer for Thrasher Magazine traveling the world photographing skateboarders such as Andrew Reynolds, Jim Greco, Spanky , and Jerry Hsu to name a few. In this interview I speak to Patrick about his new book titled “Epicly Later'd” which is a body of work comprised of photos from his popular blog back in the early to mid 2000's documenting his daily life living in NYC in his 20's. In this breaking news episode of The Scoop, we continue our coverage of FTX's demise with Jim Greco, a general partner at F9 Research, and Douglas Colkitt, founder of Crocodile Labs. According to Greco, many market participants knew about the relationship between Alameda and FTX. Still, few thought former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried would risk jeopardizing the success of his exchange: “Most professionals knew of the Alameda connection, but we all thought that this exchange is so valuable — it's worth $32 billion — why would he do something that would destroy the equity value in this exchange?” said Greco. Not only did Bankman-Fried end up destroying the value of his exchange, but it's now apparent that he did so in an effort to prop up Alameda's unsuccessful trading operation, said Greco. Colkitt added that recent events have shattered the perception that Alameda was one of the top performing firms in the space: “Nobody really expected FTX to run out of money because they thought Alameda must be making so much money, but it's really quite the opposite — they just seemed so incompetent that even with all these advantages they were losing money,” said Colkitt.? Episode 112 of Season 4 of The Scoop was recorded live with The Block's Frank Chaparro, F9 Research General Partner Jim Greco, and Crocodile Labs Founder Douglas Colkitt. As persistent inflation strikes fear in the market ahead of Wednesday's FOMC meeting, the total crypto market cap has plunged below $1 trillion dollars for the first time since January 2021, as data from The Block shows: In this special episode of The Scoop, financial veteran Jim Greco — a general partner at crypto high-frequency trading firm F9 Research — examines some of the causes of the recent market meltdown, and explains why only the strongest crypto companies will survive. According to Greco, this sell off was driven primarily by macro concerns regarding persistent inflation: “On the actual market structure component of what the sell off has been about, I think it's largely a macroeconomic story — and really ever since the end of last year, we've been dealing with a huge inflation story.” Last Friday, the US Labor Department reported May's consumer price index to be up 8.6% compared to May of 2021, signaling the highest levels of inflation since the 1980s. In addition to cratering crypto prices, Greco also believes the bear market will help bring last year's inflated crypto valuations back to reality: “Were these companies ever worth $10 billion or whatever the valuation was? Probably not. I think this was just investors looking at the direction of volumes and volatility last year, projecting out as if that wouldn't stop into 2025, but now we've had a huge correction and it's pretty clear what those projections into 2025 look like now, and they're not anywhere close.” Indeed, crypto financial services firm BlockFi, which reportedly raised funds at over a $5 billion valuation just last year, announced recently that it was in the process of finalizing a down round that would bring BlockFi's valuation to just $1 billion. Episode 52 of Season 4 of The Scoop was recorded remotely with The Block's Frank Chaparro and Jim Greco general partner at F9 Research. Skateboarding, partying, and all the Hijinx that comes along with it. It all started with Andrew Reynolds and Jay Strickland, wanting to use all the bits and pieces left over from the iconic Birdhouse video The End; mashing together all the chaotic b-roll, and skate clips which didn't make the cut. Deciding together to call the video Baker Bootleg, a new and influential skate brand was born. Parting from Birdhouse, Andrew began working on the new company with some help from Tony Hawk. Baker Bootleg went out on its own, creating the video Baker 2G. Soon, Andrew Reynolds and Jay Strickland weren't seeing eye to eye, and decided to part ways as companies; Jay, keeping Bootleg, and Andrew taking Baker. Jay would later mention that he still holds resentment for Reynolds continuing to use Strickland's artwork for the now infamous Baker logo, without even paying a dime in royalties to Jay. Baker is now considered one of the most influential players in the game, with videos like Baker 3, Bake and Destroy, and the now infamous Baker 4 being noted as videos which inspired a whole generation of skateboarders. Additionally, they've had a firing team from the start, and Andrew seems to have a knack for picking Ams who had the potential to have long and impact careers. With a team consisting of skaters like Jim Greco, Dustin Dollin, Erik Ellington, Antwuan Dixon, Terry Kennedy, Kevin Spanky Long, Figgy, Beagle, and with new up and comers like Kader Sylla or Ty Peterson. That said, the team has also had some bright stars who faded before their time, like Knox Godoy or Evan Hernandez; talented kids who seemed to fade away to personal issues and struggles. In 2007, Baker launched Bakerboys Distribution, and assisted in launching Deathwish, and Shake Junt. Greco and Ellington moved to Deathwish, taking Dixon along with them, launching the new company. Baker and Deathwish share healthy relationship as sister companies, creating videos such as Baker has a Deathwish over the years. Now, with Baker 4 showcasing new talent, it's safe to say that Baker has a bright future ahead.
