A topic that we've lightly touched upon in previous episode, but never dared devote an entire episode to is the taboo subject of repairing your own cameras.  There are those who firmly believe all repairs should be left to the capable hands of professionals, but there are others who have no problem with opening their own cameras and trying it out themselves. If you're in the latter group and are interested to hear some tips and tricks from those of us who have been brave/foolish enough to try it, Episode 89 is all about repairing your own cameras.  Joining Paul, Stephen, Theo, and Mike are returning callers A.J. Although there is very little GAS in this episode, we do get into a few model specific camera repairs.  Alyssa Micha shares with us her beautiful 1903 Kodak camera which had moldy bellows and what she needed to do to replace them.  We talk about how to and how not to fix the infamous Canon Squeal of the Canon AE-1 and A-1 cameras, along with how to deal with the sticky backs of the Nikon N80 and N90, Mike talks about a product he used to mold a custom hand grip for his Minolta 650si. We talk about various cleaners, when and when not to use lighter fluid, acetone, glass cleaner, and for the love of God, please never use WD-40 on any camera!  Although this whole episode is about home repairs and cleaning, we end the show talking about how best to take care of your camera to minimize its chances of never needing to be repaired, how to deal with humidity, and whether or not to store your cameras in their original leather cases. I remember several weekends we would even carry our tvs to each others houses and have multiple games going at once. pizza tons of soda and nothing but laughs. bozo — Yesterday at 10:14 AM I was very late to the party with THPS - I only got into the series around 2016 as I was building up my OG Xbox library and had 2x/3/4 on hand to see what all the fuss was about. Going in, I was expecting it to be the kind of game that hasn't aged well; one whose reputation was heavily embellished by nostalgia for the era it represented.   Needless to say, I was very, very wrong. THPS totally holds up. And the gameplay mechanics on offer are not only ridiculously deep, but fluid and cohesive in a way few other games can match even today. Chaining tricks into manuals into ramps into reverts is an absolutely sublime gameplay loop that never gets old.   I'm always bothered whenever THPS gets lumped into the generic "Sports" categorization, when in reality it has way more in common with combo-oriented action games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta than say, Madden. I think that's why it quickly became one of my all-time favorite series despite completely missing out on them when they were in the zeitgeist.   Oh yeah, and the soundtrack? It shreds. As a huge pop-punk fan I couldn't ask for more.   I'll never forgive Activision-Blizzard for shutting down Vicarious Visions and cancelling the THPS 3+4 remaster. 1+2 is arguably the best remaster ever made, and is easily the apex of the entire franchise, despite the moribund state the franchise was in for the previous 15 years.   Thanks for listening to the RetroLogic Podcast! Born and rasied in Huntington Beach, CA, Costa quickly became influenced and inspired by the rising scene of street skating that took the world by storm in the 1990's. With pioneers such as Jamie Thomas, The Gonz, Ed Templeton, Andrew Reynolds and so many others, Costa knew he wanted to be among his pioneers by becomig a pro rider. But with a severe leg injury, it quickly became apparant that this might not be in the cards for him. Costa began playing music during this time and with the love and support of his friends, he gave it a shot by sharing his other gift, songwriting. XD Blizzard Entertainment, the publisher behind popular video games such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch 2, is facing backlash from its employees after a meeting held on Thursday by Blizzard president Mike Ybarra. According to reports, Blizzard staff expressed their disappointment with the leadership and publicly challenged Ybarra's statements. The reduced profit-sharing plan also came as a shock to employees, with the company cutting their bonus down to 58% of what was promised. The return-to-office mandate was another issue that caused frustration among employees, with the new policy requiring workers to come back to the office for three days a week after two years of working from home. The cost of commuting and moving for employees who were hired out-of-state during the pandemic was also highlighted as an additional expense. Blizzard spokesperson, Andrew Reynolds, said the company would make exceptions “for medical or religious reasons” and honor its current long-term remote agreements. Customer service workers will also continue to work remotely. Blizzard workers have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the company, highlighting the low morale that followed the meeting. Some workers are even calling for the industry's first labor unions. The gaming industry has been widely criticized for undervaluing roles such as QA and customer service, which are essential but vulnerable to low pay and crunch. Ybarra's comments have been interpreted as a slight to these roles, which are among the first to unionize. This influx of social media postings from Blizzard workers can be seen as a form of solidarity, with employees showing their discontent with the company's leadership. It is rare for the gaming industry to see such an outward display of defiance from workers. Blizzard Entertainment's management needs to address the concerns of its employees and make changes that benefit everyone. The industry should focus on valuing all its workers equally, promoting a culture of fair play, and avoiding the negative impact of low morale, high turnover, and bad publicity. Why did I want to talk with Brandon Turner? Brandon Turner is a skateboard prodigy and addiction recovery coach, who is proving that age doesn't have to slow you down; it can actually make you better. Brandon has come a long way from his early years of substance abuse and over-the-top partying and recently partnered with San Diego-based rehab center Healthy Life Recovery to create a skate recovery program for individuals struggling with addiction. He also just broke a skating record, completing his biggest switch hardflip down Wallenberg at the age of 39. Brandon and I talk about skate culture, the upsides, the downsides, and why he's chosen to dedicate his life to helping others within the skate community, all while bucking the long-held notion that skaters retire or slowly disappear after the age of 30. He shares how his unresolved childhood trauma which included finding out that who he thought was his mom, was his grandma and who he thought was his sister is his mom. This led to Brandon drowning out the emotional pain with alcohol and other substances. Eventually landing Brandon in prison.  Brandon Turner skateboarded with heavy hitters like Andrew Reynolds, Elissa Steamer, and Arto Saari who have all opened up about their addiction struggles.
